Versailles stepped happily along the edge of the sidewalk, singing to herself. She was on her way home from the cafe and trying to cheer herself up after the fairly long walk in the dark. the fox-girl hadn't changed out of her uniform, and she was finding it rather chilly.

Versailles stretched her arms up, ignoring a twitch from her ears as they picked up on a sound that didn't reach her brain. Unfortunately, the sound she dismissed was rather important. The fox-girl's scream was cut short as a group of men surrounded her, one gagging her from behind with a belt.

A figure was walking through a alley, shadows draped along his form, making him one of them.Approaching the exit of the alley, he spots the girl, raising a brow. Oohlala....Perhaps if he offered to escort her he'd get to make a new friend, and perhaps...Those thoughts are suddenly abandoned as the men appear, surrounding her and gagging her. Cursing mentally, he presses himself against the wall, remaining out of sight so as to analyze how best to deal with them. No free running spots near enough....Crap....Oh well, he'd worked with open spaces before..What weapons did they have....

Versailles struggled and tried to fight off the men herself, only to have the one behind her tug hard on the belt while others drew nearer to start binding her arms behind her with another belt. Entirely restrained, the fox girl was unable to fight back as moonlight glinted off of a pocket knife. It seemed to be the only weapon they had unless beer bottles counted,and the men were more preoccupied with trying to cut off her bra than anyone lurking in the shadows.

Ali,seeing what they were trying to do, growls. #%!$ it.....He moves....There's a whistling sound, and then suddenly a 20 pound sledgehammer from the sky slams into the pavement, just barely missing one of the scum as it spreads cracks across the stoney surface.A voice called out, just dripping with irony, and if you listened close, suppressed fury."Gentlemen, gentlemen, is that anyway to treat such a beautiful lady?!!!One would think your mothers taught you better!!!!"The voice turns mock thoughtful as the hammer disappears into a heathaze like shimmer."Then again, all of you are so ugly its no surprise you have to resort to such methods.....Shame that...Ah well, let's begin...." A shadow suddenly splits off, and one solid metal baton heads for a thugs mouth as another flies towards a groin. A boot tries for the same below the belt tactic on another thug, and a elbow heads to a throat."Shall we?!?!" A sproing, and suddenly a headbutt applies itself to the nose of the first.As the figure lands, standing protectively before Versa, some features are finally revealed....Combat goggles, and a savage, furious grin, canines long and sharp, catches the meager light."C'mon you pansies.....Let's have some fun!!! Let's see how hard you are against someone who's not helpless!!!!C'mon, I wanna break some bones tonight, you (*#$)!*#$!!!!"

Versailles screamed at the sudden presence of the fallen hammer, muffled by the belt in her mouth. The drunks reacted in a similar fashion, shouting at eachother and slurring their words, the one who had almost been hit fainting to the ground. The man who had been holding the knife turned swiftly, leaving a diagonal cut along her side just under her left breast.

The men, not sure what was said but knowing it was an insult started brandishing their bottles like weapons to attack him. One by one, they either fell to his attacks or ran off in terror. The man who had been holding onto Versailles suddenly threw her to the ground and charged at Ali brandishing a hunting knife.

Snorting as they run, or at least the ones that could still walk, Ali turns to the last. Seeing her thrown to the ground, the terrifying grin becomes even more furious, and disdain fills his voice as the drunk charges at him."Oh please" Ignoring a clumsy cut that manages to open a slice on his face, the thief drops the batons, and as they fade there's suddenly a sledgehammer in his hands."You...." A blow to the hand sends the knife falling to the ground." Do...." A elbow finds its way into his gut."Not...." A boot stomps on the drunks toes."Hurt...." A crosscheck to the throat with the hammer handle, sending him staggering back."WOMEN!!!!" The head of the 20 pounder streaks down......crashing into a kneecap.CRACK!!!!!!!"GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!" The drunk falls over, whimpering as the awful demon grabs his face."Oh no you don't....no beddiebye till I give you some advice. Focus now, brewery breath!!!!" Slap!!" Ah, there we go!!! Sobering,eh? These are my streets, and if I ever see you and your boys doing this %#!@ again, I'll be breaking more then kneecaps, got me? Good, good, now....Goodnight!!!!" Standing, Ali stomps, knocking him out as the hammer fades. Scooping up the knife, he strides over to Versa. No, wont need it to get her out of her restraints....Stashing it in one of Hus cargo pockets, he takes off the belts, eyes examining her anxiously behind the goggles."Ey, ey,love, you gonna be OK? Hold on, I'll take you to the docs." Cursing at the cut,Ali takes off his coat, and wras it around her midsection, securing it with one of the belts, though he was sure to leave her arms free. No good in freaking her out, though hopefully his trusty coat would help stem the flow. No time to check how bad...Scooping her up in a bridal carry, he starts heading to the closest medic.

Versailles' head hit the ground hard when she was thrown, opening a cut that wasn't noticeable through her hair and knocking her unconscious. The girl only got a single glimpse of her rescuer before darkness overwhelmed her vision. The poor, greatly overwhelmed fox-girl stayed in that state for quite some time, only a breif memory of warmth before waking up in a harshly white environment. Looking around, she felt an odd sensation from her scalp and a doctor was treating the cut on her chest.
Strange. How had she gotten there?

A mohawked late teen grins, waving to get her attention from a chair as a doctor takes care of the cut on his cheek."Ey there beautiful!!! Nice to see you awake!!!" It really was...He'd been near panic when he'd arrived,though he wouldn't admit it to anyone."Good thing I got to you in time, eh?It'd be bad for a cute girl like you to wind up real hurt."

Versailles tried to sit up, the doctor insistently pushing her back down till she gave up.

"I'm sorry... for causing you any trouble. I can't remember much of what happened though. Did you... save me?"

Ali blinks. She didn't remember? Well,crud.....Sighing, he nods, grinning."Ey, ey, what'd I say, eh? No trouble at all, rescuing a beauty like you.And yep!!! Some drunk ba.....jerks decided it would be fun to.....take advantage...of you, so I stepped in. Not to worry, they learnt their lesson!!Oh by the way...." He turns his attention to the doc working on his cheek." If some jerk with a broke kneecap comes in with some of his injured buddies, make sure to detain him and get the police, yeh?" "Yes, Ali. Now, stop moving before I decide to just go ahead and stitch you. Honestly, the trouble you get into....Better hope I don't call Yani." Paling slightly, the thief turns his head back, deciding to behave. No sense getting his 2nd angry at him....Smiling at Versa, he speaks at her again."Well, lovely, I've just two questions.1. How are you feeling? And 2. Do you think you could grace me with your name?"

Versailles's cheeks reddened slightly at Ali's words. She really wasn't accustomed to just getting casual compliments like that, before realising she was still in her uniform.

"I... remember being jumped. Everything after that is kinda hazy. Thank you though... for carrying me here."

Versallies lay still while the doctor taped a bandage to her side, sitting up when they were done.

"I feel okay now, if a little fuzzy-minded." She smiled cheerfully at him. "I'd be in a lot worse condition if you hadn't shown up.My name is Versailles Amaranth.. yes like the palace in France."

Ali grins mischievously at the blush. Heh, how cute, especially with that uniform,, though he had to admit, he'd probably tease and compliment her either way."You're welcome, love. Couldn't stand by....besides, it was fun teaching them a lesson.And dont stress it, im sure your memory will come back soon enough." At the news that she was feeling better, the grin softens from mischeif into a releived one."That's good....Glad you're OK and that I was there go help."Then she introduces herself, and the mischief comes back."Versailles? Well, Ms. Versailles, it's fitting for such a princess as your self. I'm Ali'Kintar Alleyrunner, dashing rogue and Prince of the Alleyways,not to mention all around modest man....I must admit, it seems you're rather comfortable." His eyebrows waggle playfully, and his teasing grin widens.

Versailles' ears twitched, obviously distressed when he called fighting them fun.

"Yes, I'm sure it will. This... isn't actually the first time. It happened rather often in France as well. I seem to be a popular target.."

The fox-girl didn't fail to notice her rescuer's mischeivious smile slip, true emotions showing through. D'aww... he was kinda cute... She giggled a little and flushed at his introduction.

"It's nice to make your aquaintance Prince Charming. I... hope this won't interfere with your busy schedule of rescuing damsels but would you mind escorting me home?"

Ali frowns slightly at both her obvious distress and the news this wasn't the first time."I.....see..." His eyes flash very briefly in fury, before settling back into the playful and mischievous gleam that seemed to be standard, though in the back of his mind, he was really,really wishing he'd been there.Grinning reassuredly, the thief nods." Well, no worries there...In this city, there's more then enough heroes to smash them if it happens again. Heh, in fact, I'd feel pity for them if the Pale Weaver got it's claws on them.It doesn't seem to like scum like that...." Frowning slightly, he sighs."And sorry for seeming like a savage, I just really,really hate guys like that..." Blinking at the giggle, Ali grins at the blush, getting up to bow,raising his head to grin right at her."But of course, Your Majesty. I'd be honored to escort a foxy lady like yourself home. But, though I hate ruining the view, you might wanna borrow my coat, its cold out, and I'd hate you getting a chest cold." He winks, then yelps as his doctor gibbsslaps him."Ow!!! Patty, why?" "1. You moved. 2. Behave yourself. Honestly, the poor girl doesn't need you making a fool of yourself." Rubbing the back of his head, the thief mutters."Hmph...just like Yani...I'm surrounded by shedevils...." Patty gives him a look, and he promptly shuts up.

Versailles' tail flicked about rather lazily behind her as she began returning to a normal disposition. Her ears perked up agian and she smiled cheerfully at the nurse.

"Oh, there's honestly nothing he could do to make me see him as a fool. You should try traveling with a genuine jester, belled cap and all."

Versailles giggled and pulled Ali in close so she could hug him, pretending to pout.

"Besides. I think it's rather endearing. It's not every day I get to meet someone cute and charmingly original. It was usually just hopefull geeks and manwhores in france. Until I joined Arc's little ensemble that is. You don't know the true definition of romantic until you've met a drunk, gay, pyrokinetic."
