I'm working on a stat system for the powers our characters have here. This would be a loose guide, but it would hopefully be an easy way to describe your character's power in relation to that of others. It could also be used to show growth over time.

Here's a list I've compiled. Each power your character has would be rated 1-5, with a total of 20 or less. 1 being better than a normal person, and 5 being extremely powerful. Let me know what you guys think, as well as if I'm missing something important. If you want, you can even make a post to show what your character's stats would be.

Please don't argue about whether or not we need stats. That can be a different topic. This topic is about making the stat system as good as it can be in case we decide to use it.



Teleportation- How fast, how accurate, and how far can you teleport?

Healing- How severe of wounds can you heal from, and how fast?

Strength/Telekinesis- How much can you lift, and how much power is behind your attacks?

Endurance- How much punishment can you take?

Stealth/Invisibility- How hidden can you be and for how long?

Phasing- How much concentration do you need and how long can you keep it up?

Flight/speed- How fast can you go?

Reflexes- How fast can you react?

Magic/elemental- How many spells/techniques do you have, and how strong are they?

Telepathy- How strong is your mind at reading and attacking the minds of others?

Magic/Elemental/Mental Resistance- How immune are you?

Shapeshifting- How many forms can you take, and how powerful (or convincing) are those forms?

Martial Arts- How good are you?

Gadgets- What can you create, and how effective is it?

maybe the powers should have tiers. I think some of the powers, at their top levels, simply out do others.

I.E. martial arts, unless you go iron fist on it(which would be magic), is never going to overpower someone that can take tank rounds.(endurance)

and some others are almost intrinsically linked. If two powers are linked and we ever use this as an official way of deciding things, then the secondary power shouldnt have to be as high.

Dar...that is actually a very legit system, but we would also need to categorize some powers that don't fit into the system. However, we can get to that when we come to it.

Also, Im assuming zero or one is human level?

Thank you, JaK, and yes, it would be a good idea to have some sort of stat for other powers, in case they can't fit into the ones provided. And yes, zero is human level.

I think the same needs to be done for skills as well.

For example;

Martial Arts through training should be a skill.
Whilst Martial Arts via say, an intuitive aptitude would be a power.

I like the system even though I'm not staff.

I recommend adding sub-categories that powers like Emily's energy projection or Ravager's precognitive visions can fall into.

I think another good category to put in there would be enhanced human abilities. I see that a lot in apps.

That would just be enhanced strength, endurance ECT.

We could change telekinesis, magic and elemental to energy projection, that's what Marvel uses.

I would categorize starbolts and energy beams under magic. Even if the power doesn't have a magical origin, it still works in the same way.

I honestly think we could just use the standard marvel model with some basic alterations, mostly add ons. I also still think that intrinsically linked powers should have a special rule(s) about them, especially powers that allow for flight or flight like capabilities.

Here is a very basic idea of how the stat system would work scale-wise. I've incorporated several suggestions into this. The biggest change is Skill. For your character to have skills, you have to put points into it. Each skill point gives you an additional skill, and boosts the effectiveness of all your skills.

Instead of powers going from 0-5, they now go from 0 (being a normal human) to 10. You get 10 points at character creation.

Please read, enjoy, and comment.

Teleportation
1- Party Trick. Move to other side of room with a few seconds of concentration. 10- Teleport to Paris, France with just a thought.

Healing
1- Heal up a few scratches. 10- Heal from getting blown up.

Strength/Telekinesis
1- Lift a car with an effort. 10- Lift a house and throw it at someone.

Durability
1- A human punch will not hurt you. 10- Invincible. You can (barely) survive a nuke.

Telepathy
1- With an effort, you can hear someone's thoughts. 10- You can turn someone's mind to mush.

Invisibility
1- Hold breath, turn invisible. 10- Can be invisible 24/7.

Phasing
1- Hold breath, walk through wall. 10- Nobody is going to touch you.

Flight (Flight obtained by telekinesis or another stat will only be half as fast/agile as points put in the Flight stat itself.)
1- You float in the air. 10- Speed of Sound.

Speed
1- You win every track race. 10- Light Speed. (Put a point in phasing if you want to go through walls) (Reflexes will help make sure you don't end up painting a wall.)

Reflexes/Precognition
1- You dodge a bully's punches. 10- You dodge lasers...somehow.

Energy Projection
1- You have 1 weak magic/elemental attack. 10- You have 10 powerful techniques that are a mix of offensive and defensive.

Shifting (animals, look like other people, mold arms into weapons, stretch...)
1- Turn into 1 , animal. 10- Turn into 10 animals, or 1 really powerful animal.

Items (1 powerful magical/tech item, or a number of gadgets)
1- You have a flash bomb or can summon a normal sword. 10- You have 10 gadgets, or Excalibur.

Skills
1- You are now a master of martial arts. 10- Like Batman, you too can do anything, and you do it better than other people. (You learn a new skill for every point you put in Skill, and your skill gets better. A level 10 skill person will still not be able to punch-out someone with durability. However, if you are fighting someone with skill lower than you, you will be the better fighter.)
