These are the Stars that are Closest to Me (paige)

Night had fallen in jump city, and Hotwire was busy at work on the roof of the tower.

He had been waiting a month for this.No moon, and most of jump city had turned off the lights... total darkness. Well, other than the billions of stars dotting the sky. Hotwire was going to view them. He was on the roof, adjusting his brand new Moede Telescope.

"Perfect... all the others are in bed for the night. Alpha Centauri-B here I come."

Claira Layed down on her bed at the orphanage stareing at her new Comunicator. Claira sighed nothing was going on tonight and nothing to do. Victoria had disapered about a few weeks ago without anysigns of where she left so Claira didn't ven have someone to talk to. Claira sighed and got up and smirked.

"I wonder if the Titans are doing anything tonight if only I could go over and see what they're... DUH I'm an honary Titan now I'm allowed in the Tower no questions asked now."

Claira jumped out of bed and ran over to the window and paused.

"And I'm still wearing my pajamas....."

Claira ran over to her closet putting on her new hero costume she put together using the supplies she got from the tower after becoming a Honary Titan. Claira threw her Beastboy covered Pajamas on her bed and ran over to the window opening it up and shoting out wings and flew over to the tower closing the window behind her.

Claira flew above the roof and saw Hotwire and smiled. Claira landed on the roof quietly and sneaked over to Hotwire to hear what he had said and smirked. Claira then stood behind him and said very loudly right in his ear.

"HI HOTWIRE WHATCHA DOIN?!?!"

"Ack!" Hotwire quickly spun around, shining a red headlamp in clairas direction. He wore this lamp since the red light wouldn't ruin the fact that his eyes had adjusted to the darkness.

"Geez claira... scared me there. Oh... I'm just working on my astronomy stuff... best conditions for star gazing this month."

If someone like eric,ben,or scope stopped in, hotwire would have shoo'd them away. But he decided he could let claira stick around. She was nice.

He looked her up and down with the red light, which made all the greens look black.

"New costume?" Hotwire asked.

Claira laughed a little when he screamed and smiled at him.

"Yeah I used some stuff I found in the Tower to make it. I figured using some materials based on beastboys costume would work the best for me so my costume would change with me when I turn a part of me into animal limbs. But even though the costume will change with me some shoes and gloves still feel way to restricting on me, I for one blame the fact that I spent most of my child hood living alone in the south american jungle."

She said smiling at him.

While hotwire was looking through his scope, and adjusting the lenses to focus on a distant nebula, he heard claira mention south America.

"You lived in south america? I went on a mission with scope to brazil a little bit after I joined the titans."

When she smiled at him, he blushed a tiny bit, but it was well hidden by the red head-lamp.

Clairas smile disappered when she remebered how her parents died.

"Yeah alot happened on my 5th birthday.... some poalchers peeved off some panthers, they lead them to the camp site me and my parents were at, the panthers slaugtered everyone but me, and I was left alone for 8 years...... before that we lived in new mexico"

She said with a frown her eyes filled with sad ness but hotwire wouldnt be able to see threw her mask.

Panthers killed her parents... worst birthday ever by the sounds of it.

Hotwire looked up from his scope and looked at claira.

"Wow... that's horrible."

He saw the frown on her face, and could only imagine how her eyes looked behind the mask.

Claira held her upper arm with her other hand and looked down.

"I never really talked or achually told anyone about before they usually just found out about it before I told them..... After I was found child services kept bouncing me around for 4 years until last year on my birthday when I came to jump city, Being surrounded by heros inspired me to become one I also didn't really start my whole hero obsession until 4 years ago......"

Man... that story was sad... sure hotwire had felt alone during his time in school, but at least he had a mother... a father... and adoring little sister.

"Well... you aren't alone here."

Hotwire turned back to his scope and adjusted the eyepiece.

"Does this look right to you?" Hotwire asked pulling away from the scope, then motioning for claira to take a look.

If it was well adjusted, she would see something like this.

"Mesier Object number 57... ring nebula."

Claira smiled and walked forward and leaned down and saw part of it but most was coved with a hudge black dot.

"I don't see... DUH goggles I have got to clean these things."

Claira stood up and removed her mask.

"Well thats what I get for not cleaning the gogles regularly"

She said smiling at hime but her eyes still showed alot of sadness withing them. Clairas mask dangles around her neck and she leans back over looking threw seeing the ring nebula.

"Wow it's so beatiful!........ Hotwire....."

Claira stood back up and turned to him.

"Thanks for being so nice to me I really aprechiate it not many people can even stand by me for longer than a few minets with out yelling at me to shut up, and Victoria gone I'm glad I still have you around."

Claira then hugged him tightly trieing to hold back tears.

Hotwire was glad claira could see the nebula... after all... it had taken hotwire a few minutes to adjust it.

But then she hugged him really tight. His entire face flushed deep red.

"Oh... ah... well... it's nothing."

She pulled back a little and shook her head tears welding up in her eyes.

"No it is you have no idea what it means to me... being alone for so long... being stuck watching other kids finding loving famillies as I just sat there just being judged and thrown away like trash being tossed to totaly new areas because no one wanted me for years... after being stuck haveing to take care of myself all alone.... atching my parents being riped apart, watching my new best freind runaway, being made fun of everyday in school!....i-it's just good to know that theres finally someone out there who accepts me and doesn't judge me..."

A sream of tears run down her face as she talks. This really was the first time Claira really did talk about her feelings to someone else and didn't joke around to hide her sadness.

Hotwire listened to her talk about how grateful she was. He felt really bad for her. He watched the tears stream down her face... which he hadn't expected from the constantly joking claira.

Against everything he could have done, he held his hand up to her face and wiped a tear off.

"You won't have to worry about being judged by me... I only have my powers because a testosterone fueled bully shoved me into a glass case of nanobots... bullies have caused all my problems."

He wanted to make her feel better... and could only think of one way to do it.

"Here claira... let's just lay down and watch the stars."

Claira smiled and layed down looking up at the stars.

"I used to do this every night when I lived in the jungle it was the only thing that I knew that never would change in my life, My mom and dad always told me that each star in the sky was the reflection of someone in the world smiling when ever I was said to make me feel better."

She said in a happy tone.

Hotwire heard clairas memories of stars as he turned of his head lamp, and lay down next to her.

"That's nice. Do you remember many of the names of the stars?" Hotwire asked looking over at her.

Sure it may not have been a night of looking at the stars and galaxies through his scope... but he was lying next to a pretty girl under a pitch black night sky.

Would this be what eric called "A successful evening?"
