In the light of the red moon

Standing among the flames was a hulking man in metal armor. A giant great axe rested on his shoulder as he stared off into the night sky, unworried about the flames around him.



They were dead, the man thought. His targets were dead.

The man was known as Mr. Slaughter. His name had once been Dar Thle Golas, but he no longer remembered that name. He remembered nothing about his past, except for glowing red eyes...and fire. Standing here in the flames felt somehow...familiar. He felt at home here in the fire. That seemed to be a strange thing. Most people were afraid of fire, weren't they?

Slaughter heard a voice. A feminine voice. He saw a girl running through the woods, looking for something. Slaughter walked over to her, his appearance intimidating as he towered over her in red hot steel. "What do you need? What are you looking for?"

Kunoichi stopped as she saw someone huge in red armor. She didnt know if she should run, but when it asked her what she was looking for, it didn't sound hostile, in fact it sounded calm.
"I'm looking for my parents shrine, i-it's around here somewhere. There's something i need to save from it." she said as she looked around for the tree with a rope wrapped around it and a medium-sized hole in one side that held a picture frame in it.

Slaughter's armor started to cool down as he exited the flames, changing the color back to silver. "A shrine?" It was not a word that he was familiar with. He had retained a vocabulary from his days before becoming Mr. Slaughter, and he had been quickly educated by the Double-Man Project to increase his intelligence. Still he had no idea what a shrine was. It was probably not important, but this girl really semmed worried.

Slaughter decided to be helpful. Whatever a shrine was, it was not normally found in the woods. Hmmm. "I saw a tree with a picture in it." Slaughter pointed in the direction he had seen the odd tree. The flames were not too intense there, but the girl would probably still burn alive trying to get there. "What do you need? I could get it for you."

Kunoichi began to cough and was having trouble breathing surrounded by smoke and the intense flames.
"I-I need the picture in it. It's very dear to me. It's the only thing I have left of my parents."
She headed toward the trees where the armored man had pointed towards. But stopped as she heard a crack and looked up to see a large branch that was on fire fall. She jumped back out of the way. She was on her knees with her hands over her mouth, as it was getting even more difficult to breath.

Slaughter saw the tree branch falling. He lifted up one hand and batted the branch away, making sure it didn't hit the girl. She was on her knees now, coughing. This girl was going to die if she stayed in here. Not everyone could stand in the flames like Slaughter. He was constantly reminded by how fragile humans were.

"It's not worth your life." Picking up the girl with one massive gauntlet-covered hand, Slaughter carried her out of the woods to a safe place. The police and firemen let them through, confused at seeing the large metal man.

The air was cleaner here, and there were no flames. Slaughter put the girl down. The picture was not worth her life, but it was still important, he decided. He would give anything to know about his own past.

Turning around, Slaughter ran into the flames. He found the tree quickly and grabbed the picture inside. Making sure the flames didn't get it was difficult, and it did suffer a few minor burns here and there. Despite these spots, the picture was still in one piece. Running back to the girl at twice the speed any human could reach, Slaugther set it down on the ground next to her. He waited for a response from her.

Looked at the picture and then back at the armored man. She picked up the picture and smiled gently. It had suffered some damage but the scene and her parents were still visible. She looked back up smiled again.
"thank you, thank you so much."
She stood up shakily, and now that the fear of losing her most beloved memory was safe, she breathed out a sigh. With the panic almost over, she quickly remembered about the ferret girl she had left alone back at the hotel.
"oh, that reminds me." she said holding the picture closer. "I have to get back to the hotel. Thank you again." she bowed at the person who had helped her and turned away, heading back. When again she stopped and turned around.
"sorry I never asked you, what's your name?"

Slaughter felt oddly happy that he had been able to help the girl. It felt good to be thanked. Now she was off to wherever she had come from. She stopped to ask him his name.

What harm could it do? His 'name' was merely a code name for dealing with civilians. His real name was unknown, even to him. He wished more than anything that he could remember his name.

"Mr. Slaughter." He said. Turning away, he began walking back to the base.

A voice came over his earpiece. "Interesting little friend you made there, Slaughter."

"I didn't have anything else to do."

"No...you didn't. You eliminated all of your targets. Congradulations. The fire was an unfortunate outcome, but it wasn't your fault. Well done, agent."

Slaughter continued walking in the silence of the night, heading for the base. He wondered if he would ever see that girl again.

Nikki's nose twitched and she sniffed,"mmmm, bacon....." she muttered. she wondered if some one was making breakfast, then realized she had gone to sleep only a little while ago.
She stood groggily and went to the window. She blinked several times before she registered the flames. She growled slightly, glad she didn't sleep there tonight. "I so blame Mr. Fireworks." She yawned and went to the fridge, her nose had thought it was bacon cooking, and now her stomach wanted food. She opened the fridge and found a couple chicken bites. She heated them up and started to chow down.

Kunoichi entered the hotel room to find the ferret girl eating what looked like chicken nuggets.
She went to the coffee table and set her picture down.
Looking back at the ferret girl eating, her stomach growled and she also realized that she hadn't eaten all day or night either. Ignoring it she sat down on the couch.
"By the way I forgot to ask, um what's your name?"

Nikki swallowed a large bit of food and quickly transformed when she heard the voice behind her, hen relaxed as sh realized it was just the ninja. She sighed and transformed back, "Nikkita, but you can call me Nikki for short." Nikki picked up another chicken nugget and popped the whole thing in her mouth and chewed happily for a minute before swallowing, "so where did every one else go?" Nikki's attention was grabbed by the picture Kunoichi had set down and went over and looked at it. "Your parents I'm guessing?"

"y-yeah." Kunoichi said answering her question about the picture.
"Well about the other two, I believe Mr. Pacific went home and BlackJack went to stay at a fancier hotel I think. He offered us a place over there too, but I turned it down." She yawned and looked out the window. It was almost 5 in the morning and she noticed she still hadn't slept all night. She laid down on the couch she was sitting on but didn't fall asleep.
"Do you have parents?" she asked Nikki.

"Nah, I was hatched from an egg by a giant platypus," Nikki joked.
She held out the plate of chicken to the ninja, offering her some, "I had parents at one time, I'm-I'm not sure what happened to them though. I remember bits and pieces, but I don't know what happened to them. I was kicked out of an orphanage when I was little. I guess they had a no pet policy or something cuz they sure didn't like me." She smiled slightly.

Kunoichi shook her head as she was offered food, she was more tired than hungry. She smiled to see that the girl had a nice sense of humor.
Her smile faded as she though of whether she should tell her about her past or not. It would be hard for her to talk about it, she decided to keep quiet, only if the girl asked would she spill.
