MacGuffin (Ninja and Alpha)

It was playing with his head? Logically, Dar knew that had to be true. He wasn't acting like himself.

But he didn't care. He wanted the MacGuffin, and he was willing to do anything to get it. At least, right now he did. His intense drive to hold it again was slowly fading away as Haruhi hid the orb from his view. It had enough of an effect to make Dar feel guilty to not sticking to his code of honor. But then again, wasn't stealing something a form of attack? If so, he could justify his violent actions.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, Dar knew that the police were still on their way. Time was running out.

Boost?

Dar turned and looked at Damian. He studied the boy, curiously. Magical gauntlet. Saying that he didn't want to fight them. A firm, unafraid stance. "You're charging an attack, aren't you? Or some kind of power. You're getting stronger each time you say that word." Dar pointed his sword at the young hero. "If you say that again, I will consider it an attack, and will promptly remove your head."

He looked at Haruhi, assuming she was still in the room and not running away frantically. "If it is messing with my mind, then prove it is not messing with yours. Set it down on the table, if you can."

Haruhi looked at the Mcguffin and then at Dar then at the table and back at the Mcguffin. "Nuh-uh." She said pulling it close and away from both Dar and Damian. "How do I know it isn't just you trying to truck me into letting it go." She took a step away from them, it was true, the strange orb still had her in a trance.

"That's exactly what I'm trying to do," Dar said in response to Haruhi. It seemed that she was too smart to fall for such a trick. Dar had planned on grabbing the orb as soon as it touched the table and running away with it.

Dar thought about smashing the house to pieces, but Damian told them to stay calm. He had a point. Nobody needed to get hurt here. All that needed to happen was for Dar to get the MacGuffin back.

He would do anything to get that MacGuffin, and that meant that she would probably do the same. "But perhaps you can outsmart me," Dar said. "If you put it down on the table, I will let you keep it. Otherwise, I will take it from you by force. You want to keep it, don't you? Then you better set it down on the table." It was a stretch, but Dar was hoping the MacGuffin was affecting her mind enough to make his request make sense.

Haruhi kept clutching on to it as she thought about his offer, she knew it was a trick but at the same time it was a threat. She glanced down at the Mcguffin and cringed, she wanted it but at the same time she could feel something was off about it. Damian was right about the trance. Which gave Haruhi a risky idea, and that was to end it. To break the Mcguffin would be to break the trance, it usually worked that way...didn't it? Well only one way to find out. She held the orb over her head with both hands, it was taking all she had to fight the trance and want to destroy the thing instead of running off with it. "Nobody can have it!" She said before slamming it into the ground, that was...if no one caught it before it hit the ground.

Jealousy could do strange things to people. Dar had seen it work its foul magic first-hand. On occasion, someone's twisted desire would force them into a place where they decided to destroy the thing they loved, just so that nobody else could have it. It was a very strange, very human way of thinking. As much as Dar wished he could deny it, he was just as human as the rest of them. If he had been in Haruhi's position, he probably would have done the same thing.

But since he was in his own position, he tried to dive forward to catch the thing. Damian got between him and Haruhi, spreading his...wings? The revelation was actually so surprising that Dar stopped short. You always had to be careful when someone transformed in front of you. It meant that you hadn't yet fully grasped their true nature. For all Dar knew, Damian was actually an angel, or something similar.

The delay lasted just long enough. The MacGuffin struck the floor and shattered into dozens of tiny pieces. Broken, its magic quickly faded, and Dar felt his desire to possess the orb disappear entirely.

Well, this was embarrassing. Dar had been acting like a child, he realized. He had broken his code of honor, and had acted shamefully. How could he now call himself anything but an emotionally-driven savage?

But on the other hand...he had really wanted the MacGuffin. More than anything in his life, he had wanted to possess it. Seeing the thing he loved most in the world get destroyed had damaged Dar's heart beyond repair, even if he now understood he had been getting played by some magical charm. His heartache was just as real.

Dar sheathed his sword. With a truly forlorn face, he walked slowly towards the door. He decided that he would make this city pay for all the crimes it had done to him, including taking away his MacGuffin. Haruhi and Damian would suffer at his hands, but not today. Today, he needed to grieve his loss.

But tomorrow, there was no living thing in Jump City that would survive his boiling wrath. "Well, it has been a long night. Farewell, for now."
