MacGuffin (Ninja and Alpha)

Dar had been content with his life, for the most part. Of course, there were things he wanted, things he had been unable to obtain, but he had never let that bother him. Life was short. It was best to enjoy the gifts you were given, instead of morning what you did not have.

But this...this was different. He had only seen it by accident, really. He had been walking past the house when the owner had mistakenly walked past the window carrying it.

The MacGuffin.

A small orb of light, the MacGuffin served no functional purpose beyond a night light. But everyone who laid eyes on it was overcome with intense desire to possess it. The magic of the MacGuffin was strong, strong enough to overcome even Dar the Ghost's heart and soul without him even noticing.

Dar decided that he would own the MacGuffin. He would take it at all costs. Of course, he wasn't so stupid as to break down the man's door then and there in the daylight. He waited until nightfall, and then he made his move.

Stealth had never been one of Dar's particular strong suits, so he threw the idea of climbing in through a window out the window. He walked calmly up to the door and rang the doorbell.

The owner, a wealthy man wealthy enough to own his own mansion, but too poor to afford his own bodyguards, peeked through the window. He was obviously paranoid. "Who are you? What do you want?"

Dar decided that he didn't have the right answers to those questions, so he twisted the doorknob and broke it. The door swung open. The owner screamed as the door swung open. Alarms started to sound, and the police were notified automatically. Security systems were quite efficient these days.

But that was fine, this wouldn't take long.

Moving like a blur, Dar caught up to the fleeing man and grabbed him by the neck. He locked eyes with him. "Where is it? The shining orb?"

"The MacGuffin? You can have it. It's in the safe."

Dar narrowed his eyes. He could tell the man was lying about it's location. Besides, nobody could give up the MacGuffin so easily.

"Don't waste my time," Dar said, menacingly. With that, he threw the man against the wall, knocking him out but not killing him. It was time to tear this house apart.

Haruhi had been on her usual late night run, patrolling the city. She had heard the security alarm of someone breaking into a house go off and decided to check it out. She landed on the roof of the house next door and looked over at the house that had the alarms go off. There were no broken or open windows, so it didn't really look like a robbery, but then she saw the front door was wide open. "Alrighty then, time to investigate further, looks like this crook was nice enough to use the front door, that or just completely stupid." She muttered to herself jumping of the roof and stealthily making her way into the house. She noticed a man with long silver hair, pulling out drawers and dumping them. What could he be looking for?

She tapped him slightly on the shoulder. "Psst, need some help there?"

Where was it? Dar ripped the drawers out of a dresser and searched through the contents, sending sweaters and unfolded socks everywhere. Was it possible the MacGuffin was actually in the safe, where it was supposed to be? No. Dar was certain the man had been lying. He knew that time was running out, and he couldn't afford to waste it trying to break open a safe.

Somebody tapped him on the shoulder.

Dar turned around, surprised. He hadn't heard anyone approaching. Then again, he had been quite distracted. Realizing that he probably looked slightly insane, Dar collected his thoughts and brushed some hair out of his face.

He smiled, polite and completely sincere.

Dar had no idea who this stranger was. Perhaps she was a thief. Perhaps she was a Titan. Judging by her costume, she really could have been either one. If she had a problem with what he was doing, then he would allow her to inform him of the fact. Either way, he didn't have time to jump to conclusions, even to logical ones.

"Actually, yes. I'm looking for something, a bright, glowing orb. You'll know it when you see it. If you would help me search for it, that would be very kind."

Dar resumed his search, but he tried to maintain his poise, not allowing himself to get too worked up. After all, he had company.

"Well aren't you hospitable, using your manners, and you even used the front door." She joked and jumped off the wardrobe she was perched on. "Well you see, even though you did ask politely, I'm going to have to say no." She put her hands on her hips, looking up at him. "You see, stealing is considered a crime, and sorry big fella but I'm supposed to stop ya and you know, take you in." She was curious though on what exactly it was he was looking for. An orb of light? Sounded interesting...yet dangerous for some odd reason. What if it was some magical item that held a lot of power?

Haruhi declined his request to help search for the orb of light. She said that stealing was a crime, and that it was now her duty to stop him and arrest him. Dar wasn't surprised. He hadn't really expected her to help him.

He was surprised, however, when a newcomer approached. Damian claimed that both he and Haruhi were on a team of superheroes. Dar had no reason to disbelieve him. Of course, he smirked at the claim that there unnamed team was more powerful than the Teen Titans. While such an organization wouldn't be all that difficult at this point in time, Dar was certain he would have heard of such a team. It would have been all over the news if a note-worthy team of heroes had been formed.

"I understand," Dar said, looking at Haruhi. "You have a moral obligation. Don't ever let go of it. If you believe that you need to stop me, then you should follow that feeling."

Dar didn't reply to Damian. The kid had some gauntlet on his arm that repeated the word "boost" to him. Dar had no idea what that gauntlet might do, but it was obviously special in some way. Dar continued searching for the MacGuffin, remaining calm and collected. He looked under the pillows on the bed and frowned. It wasn't there either.

If a fight was going to occur, then either Haruhi or Damian was going to have to start it. Dar was being polite, composed, and supportive of their morals. He hadn't acted violently towards either one of them, and right now that was his defense. Attacking someone who had done nothing to you, who apparently didn't want to fight, would be awkward at the least. Their morals might even interfere. It couldn't be justice to beat someone who hadn't attacked you first.

Just in case, though, Dar kept his powers active. If they did strike at him, he wanted to be able to deal with their attacks effectively. The bloodlust that his rage empowerment was giving him was becoming a strain. His calm exterior was just a show. In reality, he would love a good fight right now. He wanted to crush these two heroes, just because they existed. But he remained focused on his goal, and channeled his bloodlust into something productive: finding the MacGuffin. He was battling the secrets of this house, he thought. It was a different kind of battle, but it was sufficient.

All this searching was making him thirsty. Dar calmly walked to the kitchen and poured himself a glass of water. He looked at his two would-be opponents. "Thirsty? It's filtered."

Haruhi raised an eyebrow at Damian. She knew what he was trying to do but she knew the big guy wouldn't fall for it, and she was right. She then drew her attention back to The robber. She then came up with her own plan, she lifted both her hands in the air as if surrendering. "Hey you seem like a cool and collected guy, you know what? I'll help you find what your looking for. Hey who am I too judge, what if it does have some magical property and the owner of the item is actually the one planning to use it for evil?" With that she made her way to the stairway. Her new plan was to locate the item first and keep it away from Dar. She began to shuffle through the owner's closet then dresser.

Finishing his water, Dar resumed his search. Things were going better than expected. Of course, he was certain that the two heroes would turn on him as soon as the MacGuffin was found. For now, though, they were not impeding him. Even if one of them found it, Dar could simply kill them and take his treasure from their cold fingers.

Still, the police would be here soon, and Dar didn't want to make a scene. He normally wouldn't resort to something as low as theft, but this was a special circumstance.

And then he found it. Shoving some books off a shelf, Dar found the brightly shining marble that was the MacGuffin. Dar reached out and closed his hand around it. It was surprisingly heavy, though not uncomfortably so. He turned to leave the building. Normally, he would have run away at full speed to avoid further conflict with the two heroes. But he was so entranced by the beauty and splendor of the MacGuffin that he slowly walked towards the door. The light shined all around, and if Haruhi or Damian saw it, they would instantly be filled with an intense desire to possess the MacGuffin for themselves. It was a magical item that made anyone who saw it want it more than anything else in the world.

It was so peaceful. Even though he had his powers active, Dar did not feel any bloodlust. He was simply at peace, happy, and full of joy. He could stay like this forever.

If anyone tried to attack him, he was distracted enough that they would probably succeed in striking him, although harming him would be harder to accomplish.

In a flash, Haruhi stole the MacGuffin right out of Dar's hands. The calm peace he had been experiencing was replaced with a rage so great Dar felt like he might explode. Damian was attempting to calm them down, but his words fell on deaf ears. Dar drew his sword without hesitation, murder in his eyes.

"You dare steal what is mine?" His voice echoed through the house. Steel flashed as Dar swung his blade at Haruhi. His code of honor was gone. He was fighting to kill, without provocation. His sword, whether it hit or missed the cat-girl, would cut cleanly through the wall beside them.

Well she managed to get the big guy angry, and she could see nothing but hell and fury in his eyes. Haruhi held on tightly to Mcguffin as Dar's voice echoed through the building. She felt and heard the swish of the blade as she managed to crouch down and dodge the blade by a hair. She then jumped back and away from the sword swinger. "Take it easy big guy. It's just like that guy said, this thing is playing with your head." She quickly glanced down at the Mcguffin.
