| Cain was walking home, on the way to her apartment. She had been out looking to try and find a job, and she found herself entertaining the idea of opening her own cafe more and more. As it would happen, on her way home she found herself walking past an open construction site. No one was there and the machines were off, they must have been out for lunch since everything was still there.
As she walked past she came to a stop. She was hearing a slight ticking. She looked around curiously, as there were no clocks nearby, visibly at least. She followed the sound of the ticking out of curiosity, but couldn't find it near any of the equipment. No, instead she wandered further into the zone, looking around, until she came upon a large stone box. She blinked, wiping some dust off of it to see a name. Curious. Is this a coffin? She pressed her hand firmly on the stone, a pulse of green energy spreading over and into it through the cracks. She tried moving the top herself but it was much too heavy.
Surely enough, her pulse found a soul, and she deposited it into whoever was inside the box. A few moments later, the lid came hurtling off to the side, a skeleton inside staring at her with glowing eyes before offering up a pocket watch.
The ticking stopped.
She took it, blinking, and released the soul, the arm dropping. She got out of the construction site, looking at the watch curiously. She felt faint traces of magic, but she dared not use her powers in public.
A half hour later, she sat down on a desk, looking at the watch. It was rusty and dirty, and she started to clean it with a rag. "What might you be..." she asked herself.

| After what seemed like a millennium of silence, freedom called at last! Majid, while brooding in his study felt a new presence surrounding his cage. With a liberating surge of wind and energy, the ancient creature erupted from the pocket watch, spreading out his arms in victory and ecstasy as he spiraled quickly around the room, surrounding himself in smoke but with a wisp still connecting his torso with the pocket watch. For a moment, he forgot that his freedom had not yet been guaranteed, but the process had begun and that alone filled his chest with a delicious scent of pleasure.
Majid narrowed his empty eyes at his new 'Master' as he hovered proudly above her. This one had green hair and fleshy pinkish skin coverings around her insides along with strange clothing. "Human..." Majid spoke in a low note, making no effort to hide the distaste in his voice.
After a moment of holding an annoyed frown, he spoke his body to life with a flourish of his arms. "Small one! I am Majid! The Great! The Powerful! The Dauntless! The Incomparable! The Wise! And...who might you be."

| Suddenly, Cain, in a moment of shock, dropped the watch and stepped back on instinct. From the watch came out smoke, which then formed a djinn. It was actually a djinn; a real life, from fairy tales djinn. Of course her father had told her stories but after she was ten she dared no longer entertain the idea of them, as her training took priority. As far as she knew her father had never accepted them to be real either.
He introduced himself as Majid, and she could tell he didn't like humans from the sight of her. She smiled a little. "Wow...I am absolutely honored by your presence, Majid. I grew up learning about djinn but my father nor me ever truly believed in you." She took a bow, and picked up the pocket watch. "My apologies for dropping your home. I should take better care of it."
"I am Seras Cain Alabaster, though my titles and renown are surely much less comparable to yours. I am simply known as Dead Master." She took another bow, though it was slight. If Majid were truly able to see every part of her, then he would notice that as her eyes glowed green, revealing her magic nature, he would see signs of decay inside her. "Though, unfortunately...I am far from human."

| A stoic gaze lingered on Majid's face as the girl spoke. He knew that his people had faded into nothing but legend by now. Their empires had come and gone. Their effects were nothing. Their greatest rulers, their philosophers, their musicians, their inventions, all gone...but how?
Regardless, Majid knew that their legacy still somewhat lived on through him now. If he would ever discover what happened to them, he would have to be freed from his duties and stay free. This girl would get anything she would ever want and then he would be gone. Majid looked to the pocket watch as she mentioned it.
"That isn't my home. That is my prison." The djinn snapped back quickly as he folded his arms in a serious pose. "Well...Dead Master...fitting enough. You may not be human, but you are a reflection of their influence...and that is enough."
Majid kept his gaze, drilling holes straight through the girl. "Whatever legends you've heard...my purpose here is to offer you a deal. I offer to you three wishes with which you can use to change your own life however you want...in exchange, you will grant me my freedom. You will give your word that I have proven myself a worthy slave and grant me my freedom."
The blue creature lowered himself down to become face to face with the girl. "This is a rare opportunity and I trust you will take advantage of it?"

| Cain smiled as she exchanged words with the Djinn. He was truly magnificent, and Cain felt a twinge of guilt for treating him as some kind of specimen for observation. Majid pointed out that the pocket watch wasn't his home, but rather his prison. Oops.
"Of course. My mistake. I did not mean any offense, Majid. It is very clear to me that you detest humans, so maybe, indeed, as a reflection of their influence, you could endeavor to keep me separate from their categorization." She said it politely and respectfully, keeping her hospitable smile.
When he offered her the deal, her mind wandered at the millions of possibilities. She could have her father back. She could be free of this curse and go back to practicing magic. She could have her cafe. But she put her dreams in fetters, there were rules...and loopholes.
"Had I found your prison in some coffin much earlier, I would definitely take advantage of it. But the answer is no." She smiled. "Vast riches and power, eternal happiness, the return of ones lost...there are so many things I could achieve by using you. But the fact of the matter is that it would be using you." She crossed her arms, looking down at the watch in her hands. "You've been imprisoned for what I can only guess is countless years inside that thing. I imagine you've speculated that you would never see this world again. And no matter what opportunities you can offer me, I cannot enslave a fellow being of magic, especially one so rare, for my own personal gain."
"That being said, I put to you a counter-offer. I will grant you your freedom, no strings attached, at the expense of a little of your time. Perhaps...ten minutes, at most."

| The girl's response was...curious. She rightfully was amazed by his presence but for some reason seemed to want to separate herself with humanity and had the notion that she could pick her own terms.
"Humanity is in complete control of this realm," Majid spoke frankly, "If you're simply distancing yourself from them to put yourself in a pleasant light in my eyes, you're wasting my time. You are not a djinn so I do not particularly care for you. You can admit your association with humans or not, it does not matter to me."
As she spoke about her stance against slavery, he narrowed his gaze again. "This is the curse placed upon me. I cannot be granted freedom another way than this. You may accept it and reveal your desires, or you can leave me for my next master, there is no other option that can break my binds." Majid motioned towards the metal bracelets that hung tightly onto his wrists.
"Perhaps I could grant this desire you need in these ten minutes with a wish? Whether you look at it this way or not, you are my Master and I am your slave until the pact is fulfilled or you step away."

| Cain had to admit she was a little more than annoyed by Majid's remarks about her rejecting her humanity just so she could try and get on Majid's good side. However, she remained polite, though her smile as admittedly considerably lackluster in comparison to her previous mood. Then Majid said that he could not be granted freedom any other way than what he had offered her, which was a tad confusing, and was shown in Cain's face as she raised an eyebrow, perplexed.
"Well that simply doesn't make sense, Majid. You just tried to offer me a deal in which I get three desires of mine fulfilled, but in return I have to grant you freedom. If I am incapable of granting you freedom in the first place, then how would I grant you freedom after?"
"If you really insist on granting me wishes, that's fine. I want you to be free. But it seems like I should be able to free you from your binds whether you grant them or not."

| Majid understood the girl's confusion. She was from another time, with another complete set of rules for the universe. How would she know anything about the laws of Djinn Sorcery. "Perhaps if I explained a bit more, it will make more sense. This curse was placed on me by a powerful Djinn Sorceror from millenia ago. He was the one that set the rules of my containment and, although I appreciate your offer for an easier way, I'm afraid it would not work. It's true that you grant me my freedom, but my bindings will not be broken if the spell doesn't believe that I had provided enough. Three wishes will be sufficient. No less."
Majid stopped and waited for a reply from the girl. It was hard enough being controlled by someone, but being controlled by such a young one was...humbling to say the least. He prayed that perhaps he could help her become better. She had potential, that fact he was sure about. It all depended on what she decided from here on out, though.

| Cain thought over everything that Majid had said to her about why he was forced into servitude in the first place, and said that the spell placed upon him would not release him until it thought he had satisfied her.
"I see...you've put me in a difficult position, Majid. Not only must I take advantage of you but I have to do it wholeheartedly or else you won't be freed." Cain sighed, but put on a smile. "Well...I can take solace in the fact that you'll be freed afterward. Very well. No more dancing around it then."
She began to speak, but then blinked, smiling, and giggling slightly. "Perhaps you should tell me the rules so you don't have to explain that much more to me. There are rules, yes? I think Aladdin at least got that one right..."

| The djinn found this girl to be...strange. She repeatedly revealed her desire to see him freed, even though it wouldn't benefit her directly for him to be free. She seemed to still maintain her own set of morals regarding treatment of other people. How...sweet. Majid smiled as she spoke. It reminded him of a simpler time, or at least, a more innocent time. Where he could expect just treatment from others as long as he offered the same courtesy. This girl would learn otherwise, in good time. Majid decided to allow her to learn this lesson herself, however. Life in that innocent mindset was nice for a season, he knew that.
"Just realize. You are to make exactly three wishes. These wishes are meant to be considered selfishly, with yourself at the core of it. No wishing for anything that will affect the world at large massively. Consider what will happen when you make your wishes. You might not like how life is changed, and how the wish changes you." Majid stared at her knowingly, wondering how she might choose to spend her chances at real change. "There's more rules, but that's all I want you to worry about. Keep it specific and take your time to think. This is a unique experience that is only given to a few souls in all of history. I trust you won't waste it."

| Cain rubbed her chin as she thought. She should think long and hard on this. She paused for a few minutes, thinking about what she really wanted. She did want that cafe right about now, and a genie's power should certainly help in the way of achieving that dream. However, she dropped her hand, smiling at him.
"Would you like a cup of tea?"
She wandered off into the kitchen, filling up her pot with water and putting it on the burner on high so she could get some boiling water for them both. She pulled out some bags of chamomile for herself, and waited for her esteemed guest in case he wanted some as well. He did remind her to take her time, after all, so if he was going to get frustrated about it it would be borderline silly.

| Majid raised an eyebrow at the girl's suggestion and followed her to her kitchen as she prepared everything. He folded his arms and stared at her as she started to prepare her own chamomile tea. It had been a while since he had someone prepare anything for him and the idea made him excited.
"Thank you...I'm...not sure if I've ever tried chamomile tea," he spoke, reading the label.
The djinn spun around and found his spot at her table, pulling out a seat for himself. Still, he would rather move on with her wishes, but if she needed time to think, he certainly understood. Maybe he could help her think.
"Tell me about yourself...Seras, did you say? Where are you in life...Are you independent? Living under your father?"
He would grab the tea if he would be given one and stare into the small bubbles that formed in the midst of its brown ripples. Unsure of what it would taste like, he hesitated before taking a sip.

| She smiled to Majid as he seemed to play along, and told her that he had never had chamomile before. She poured Majid a cup, and then let him have the sugar and cream when she was done adjusting her own cup, stirring it with her spoon. She asked her about her life presently.
"Yes, yes I did. Where am I in life, let's see...I'm not living under my father anymore. He disappeared. ...literally. And instead of sticking around for my inheritance, I decided to leave. I was living under him, though. He always pretended he knew what was best, and while I'm grateful to him for teaching me magic, he never let me live for myself. And he didn't quite approve of my...taste for people."
"So I decided to just leave and do what I've always dreamed of. I'm independent and living on my own. I'm trying to open a cafe. And now I'm free to see who I want. What about you, Majid?"

| Frowning as the girl spoke, Majid attempted to surmise what she was hinting at. "Your taste for people. So you're a cannibal, is that it? Or is it the blood?" Majid's voice echoed in the kitchen as he sat there. A mystical being holding a cup of tea in a downtown apartment. Strange had earned a new entry in the dictionary today.
He leaned down slowly to test the drink. It was hot, but relaxing, a strange combination. Of all the things to carry on from his past life, tea seemed to be going strong, although it has changed slightly. Majid looked up to Seras and squinted at the girl's question.
"Well, I live in a pocket watch. Is that what you wanted to hear?" He said quickly, stifling a smile. "I'm from another time, Seras. I could say anything and you would believe me or you would not. There would be no way to check and it doesn't really matter at this point."
The ancient being wasn't particularly interested in becoming chummy with this girl, but he would have to be respectful to a point while he was stuck with her at least. "Why would you want to open a cafe? That sounds...hardly interesting..."

| Cain couldn't help but giggle a little at Majid's conclusion that she was a cannibal, or- seemingly- a vampire. "I do apologize, Majid. We are in private, so I suppose I shouldn't have to be that discreet about my preferences. No, I do not consume flesh, nor do I partake in the drinking of blood."
"You see, the human society for so many centuries have always so steadfastly insisted that a woman's only purpose in this society is to mate with men and have children, and other...degrading things. They are learning, but the times are still meeting more open-mindedness with a lot of friction. My father was devour in that philosophy, and so he didn't really appreciate that I was...well, to put it bluntly, I'm attracted to women, Majid." She smiled. It felt good to be able to say it freely. "We aren't nearly as prosecuted as men who prefer their own, due to misogyny, but we still do get some of the backlash."
She sipped her tea, and found herself giggling again as Majid asked if she wanted to know about him living in a pocket watch. She smiled as Majid said it didn't matter because it was a different time. He also said that owning a cafe sounded particularly boring.
"I'm glad you brought that up, Majid," she said, sipping her tea and looking at him. "You are from a different time. Back then there were many sorcerers, as I imagine. But now we live in a time where even magic is commonplace, and those with extraordinary abilities are just as likely to be encountered as those who don't." She smiled, putting up her hands openly, in that constant-shrug manner. "In a world that has become so interesting, what's the harm in a little normal? ...well there's that, and the fact that it could be a valuable business venture, if I play my cards right."
