A small Zydon ship descended from the sky, landing on the island where Titan's Tower was located. Every alarm the Tower had was going crazy.
Within the safety of the Tower, the Titans were untouchable. However, staying inside their fortress would be a disgrace, and the Zydon strike team knew this. They called out the Titans, demanding a fight. The doors to Titan's Tower opened, and the young heroes of earth came out to kick the intruders off their island.

The two teams split up to meet their opponents. As it happened, Backlash and Ravian became opponents.

PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeThu Apr 17, 2014 3:17 am

The last time Ravian had tangled with Zydon it hadn't gone awfully well. Now he was going to be facing a full invasion, luckily, from what he had heard, the girl he had fought against last time wouldn't be in the attack force. Hopefully whoever he did fight wouldn't be as difficult to hit. The best case scenario would be a nice big and slow target that he could just fire away at, no way that would happen though, not with his luck.

As he jumped off the roof of the tower and floated down he clenched his fists in anticipation and anxiety. 'I better get a souvenir from this' he thought. He did love his souvenirs, even something as small as a blood sample was worth it to him.

Of course, Ravian quickly realized that he would probably be expected to bring back more than a souvenir. This was someone he would probably have to try and capture. Backlash, recent addition to the Titans, was his opponent. Luckily, Ravian didn't know her well, he'd only hold back the amount he did against most enemies...maybe even less. He didn't want to kill her, but didn't have any qualms about seriously injuring her since the towers med bay was so close. Even if she lost a limb...well, one more robot limb would even things out for her. Two robot, two human...or maybe just three limbs.

He started the fight as he would most, with a chance to surrender. "Give up now and I won't hurt you, Backlash. This isn't going to end well for you." his eyes glowed brightly as he spoke, already analyzing Backlash's abilities. He doubted an EMP would be awfully effective, but decided he would have to try one anyways if this she refused to surrender.

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeThu Apr 17, 2014 11:21 pm

Words meant nothing to someone whose sole purpose had been wired for one thing: kill the Teen Titans. With a history made of perfect villain material––a traumatic event, a psychological breakdown, two parents killed by their own daughter––paired with her ties to S.T.A.R., already altered mind, and a natural thirst for vengeance and tendency toward violence, the Polish teenager called “Backlash” was the ideal candidate to brainwash and repurposed to serve the Zydon campaign. To think that she had tried to play hero made the Zydons laugh. It should have made anyone who knew even a sliver of her past laugh, in fact. Her powers to control lightning and magnetic fields had led her to be assigned to first annihilate the Teen Titan known as “Oculos Lux,” a meta-human whose powers revolved around an extraordinary pair of eyes. And along with a completely rewired thought pattern, the Zydon had also forced the super-powered teen into the permanent state of what she called ‘Red,’ after the colour that replaced her natural white hair and eyes when she entered a state of hyper-drive where her powers were stronger, her senses more heightened, her attacks more useless and unforgiving. Her metal prosthetic arm that served as the source of her magnesis had been tricked-out with with alien tech and weaponry that made fighting her an even more dangerous task. Her lightning whips had been upgraded, allowing the electrical currents that ran through them to run through Backlash’s nervous system, cranking up both the voltage of her whips and the extent to which her energy, stamina, and power could go. The flow of electricity within her was powerful enough to counter practically any other electrical attack, which would be useful in this specific fight, and the handles themselves had been loaded with an alien material that conducted magnetic flow as easily as someone manipulating water with their hand.

And while Ravian Alaiyan could determine someone’s weakness and strengths at literally a glance, Backlash knew more about the Titan than perhaps he did; S.T.A.R. Labs never skimped on details of those in their database, and with Backlash as their ace, the Zydons used her to gain access to that very collection of knowledge, so invaluable and extensive that it was considered the Holy Grail of all intelligence agencies.

So, as Backlash touched down to the familiar island that housed the Titans Tower, she already knew that defeating her opponent depended on rendering those magical eyes useless. Blind them, cut them out, serve them on a platter, mail them as a present to his teammates, the method really didn’t matter. Her first attack had been pre-planned, although the Zydons probably wouldn’t be too appreciative of it. Looking over her shoulder and outstretching her metal arm, she ripped the door clean off the small alien spacecraft and hurled it toward the Teen Titan. As it sped past her, she attached herself to it, using her arm as a magnet and enjoying the ride. Well, as much as someone with as much brainwashing as one could. Rather, she experienced an even stronger surge of adrenaline. Her own uncanny eyes sparked crimson, the energy in her body so strong and electrifying that it sought an exit way. But more likely than not, the door would be cut through like a hot knife through butter, so as soon as it got close enough to her opponent, Backlash jumped off, deployed her lightning whips, and hit the switch that would release a chain of blades sharper than any known substance to humankind. Again, being controlled by aliens had its perks; in place of the obsidian she usually used, an inky alien material that was not quite metal and not quite rock sliced through the air, the very tips of the chain of blades detaching and flinging toward the back of Oculos Lux’s head, aimed straight for the optic nerves. The blades, too, could be dispersed by his lasers, so unless he had eyes in the back of his head, this method was much more efficient. The rest of the chains flew through the air as Backlash front-flipped over him and snapped each downward, aimed at the shoulders.

Oculos should be flattered to receive such an extensive attack as a welcoming present. “Surrender denied,” Backlash cried as she spun forward, “Prepare for annihilation!”

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeTue Apr 22, 2014 3:42 am

Ravian was quick to figure out, even before Backlash said so, that his offer to surrender had been cast aside. She had some improvements since the last time he saw her and even if he knew what they were, he couldn't be sure about what she would be able to do with them. As far as he knew she was in a completely different mindset. She was a killer now, an exterminator, trying to kill the human race and he was going to try and catch her. "I really am stupid." he thought.

As she charged, Ravian kept himself on the move even after dodging her swing. As luck would have it, that kept him from getting skewered within the first few seconds of the fight. His eyes widened as he saw the two dagger like tips of the whip fly out of his blindspot and back towards Backlash. He hadn't expected that. He would need to be much more observant and never let those whips get behind him.

To better suit his abilities Ravian soared backward, keeping his eyes on Backlash as he did so. Saying he no longer trusted her to keep it a fair fight was putting it mildly. Once he reached a slightly more suitable distance he quickly and suddenly pitched to the side to circle her as his eyes glowed brighter. "Hope this hurts." he said, spitefully, under his breath.

Out of his eyes came three bursts of kinetic energy, each one powerful enough to get Backlash off her feet and following each other in a straight line. He knew that if he could get her on the ground he could keep her there. It wouldn't be as permanent as his every instinct was telling him to make it, but it would be enough to break her apart and drag her into the prison bay, hopefully. After the attack he sent one last beam into the earth below himself to cause a thick cloud of dust to raise up, he used it as a moment to switch from his kinetic beams, to light based. To truly ground her he had a feeling he would need to disable her first. But he also needed to see how much each of his attacks affected the crimson traitor. He would much rather know now than in a moment of need with his back to the tower.

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeTue Apr 22, 2014 4:45 am

ooc: Heads up, I edited the dialogue a bit to what I thought would better suit a brainwashed Zydon pawn.
bic:

Backlash would have given Oculos kudos for dodging that three-sixty degree attack if she were in her right mind, but to her amplified one, the feat translated as only frustration and further drive to get the job done faster. Her bright crimson eyes observed his movements carefully and quickly, storing them in the forefront of her brain for when she could use the information, doing so even as she came to an expert, gentle landing, whips trailing behind her like natural extensions of her body. Unlike many humans, Backlash’s mind and body worked in complete synchronization, thoughts becoming actions the same moment they manifested. Her actions were smooth, precise, unfaltering. So as those first blasts of kinetic energy shot her way, Backlash leapt sideways, tumbling once before getting back on her feet, just in time to receive the second round. This time, she wasn’t as fast and misjudged the trajectory of the attacks, making the second blast tear through one of the chains and cause several of the separate blades to detach, flying in several directions and landing not too far off, just not at the Teen Titan. The third blast hit its target directly, sending the teenager flying backward and sending shocks of some of the most agonising pain that Backlash had ever felt through her abdomen, forcing her to drop her whips in order to hold her stomach as she doubled over, growling something fierce like a feral animal that had just been shot. Landing hard on her back and coughing hard, another human sound joined in as she began... snickering.

“Tickles,” the Zydon recruit rasped, “you should know more about your opponent's assets.” What she spoke of was customised Zydon armour that she had been equipped with, strong enough to take the brunt of the damage but weak enough to still make it hurt. Of course, Oculos didn't need to know that; the less he knew about her, the better. Backlash stood, still cradling her abdomen with her human arm as she lifted the prosthetic one and commanded the spacecraft’s door to ram into the meta-human from the back, hopefully knocking him off his feet, too. At the same time, she called the scattered blades back to her one by one, and as each blade reached her grip, she flung it back at her opponent from various angels with the hope that he would be distracted long enough for her to land a good hit. In total, seven blades sped toward Oculos as the spacecraft’s detached door soared from behind. Finally, letting go of her stomach in exchange for the freedom to move her other arm, Backlash pressed a button on prosthetic that released three tiny seeker-missiles that were built specifically to enter a person’s body as quickly and covertly as possible, the size meant to avoid easy destruction. She just had to keep him engaged while she retrieved her whips and actually start to make an effort. It would be much, much easier if she hadn’t already been hit so early on in the battle, but her rage was all the more fueled, literally giving her boosts of energy as the crimson colour of her hair and eyes seemed to spark brighter.

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeThu May 01, 2014 3:29 am

She didn't seem to mind his attack too much. He would need to hit harder and faster, luckily his light beams would be perfect for doing just that, causing pain without care for armor or parrying. He just hoped she would be arrogant to think she could block his attacks. If he could disable one of her limbs he was confident the rest of this fight would be very quick to come to an end.

He needed to survive her next volley of attacks though! She was truly vicious, throwing her blades around like bullets. He flew out of his homemade smoke screen just in time to [i]almost dodge the door aimed him. Instead it clipped his should sending him spinning onto the ground just as the blade came whizing by. Three caught him, but only one struck true, the other two merely cutting small gashes in his leg, the third struck his thigh deeply. "Son of a!" he yelled, but had to abandon his rant as more attacks came forward.

He was bleeding, probably couldn't walk well, forget running. He was lucky enough to have the power of flight though, so his leg's injury was only important in that it put a time limit on the fight. He would have to find some time to tie it up or bandage it after or even during this fight. "Whatever you have planned. Forget it!" his eyes never completely left his opponent so when those small items left his opponents person. He was on them with laser precision. Literally! A small red line appeared in the air before he cut a path through the dots with a steel melting laser, ending their path prematurely. "Nothing escapes these eyes, especially not you." he said with a pained smile as crimson leaked down his leg and onto the ground.

"After I put you down. I'm gonna give you the same injury you gave me. Just so ya know." His eyes, flashed, bright like the sun, hoping to blind her for just a moment as he aimed a smell red beam at her regular arm. If she didn't move she would find in unable to move for several minutes as a beam of radiation passed through. It would also hurt like hell, but he was guessing that wouldn't be new to her, after all, she had already lost one arm.

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeFri May 02, 2014 6:42 pm

As fast as Backlash could travel, she couldn’t beat the speed of light. Being hit with something on the surface level hurt like hell, but being hit by something through the surface made hell seem rather inviting. At first, Backlash didn’t know exactly what had hit her or where––just that she had been temporarily blinded, a feat rather shocking when one took into account the brightness of the lightning she was so used to being exposed to. Nonetheless, she had made the mistake of staring too long, admiring the precision of which had been used to cut her blades to a folly. One red laser beam later and a faulty dodge, an unfamiliar and excruciatingly painful sensation spread through Backlash’s human hand, just missing her arm itself. She had instinctively raised to try to block the attack, using that arm rather than her metal one simply because she hadn’t the time to make the smart choice of not subjugating her good hand to a nasty dose of radiation.

Screaming something fierce, Backlash spewed a litany of Polish curse words, reverting to her native tongue unconsciously. Her electric eyes began to leak tears, but the super-teen had been through worse; she had accidentally cut off her own arm with the very lightning whips she now wielded, she underwent a procedure that went horribly wrong at S.T.A.R. Labs, her brain had been reconfigured by the Zydons, and more. Of course, it still hurt like no other, and soon a shock sent in when she realised that she couldn’t move her hand. Her lightning whip had dropped, rolling just a few feet away and sputtering to a weak spark before completely fusing out. But through those tears, she hardly even noticed. And truthfully, she didn’t care. Oculus Lux had just made the incredibly stupid mistake of pissing off a person who already literally stayed mad all the time.

Backlash didn’t know how much time passed as the pain took over and throbbed through her entire body, but she did know that if she didn’t act now, she’d be done for. And the Zydons did not take failure well. The agony she felt now would be like a bee sting compared to what the invading alien race would do to her. Blinking away the remaining tears, Backlash gritted her teeth and let out an animal-like snarl. “Bad choice,” she spat, “bad, bad choice.” Without warning, Backlash thrusted her metal arm forward and released a rain of bullets upon her opponent, the ammunition ranging from the previously deployed miniature seeker missiles to alien bullets made from the same material the metal in her whips were made of to your everyday handgun types. Second, she charged at her adversary again, this time fueled by more rage than ever as she slashed through the air with her remaining lightning whip. Finally, she released two more blades from the joined chain, making them fly behind Lux’s head again for another strike at the back of his head.

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeFri May 09, 2014 11:49 pm

One hand down. It was a start. Had to start somewhere. He would probably have to make her angrier for anything to hit though. ...Hey, that sounded like an actual plan! Now he had something real to go off of, not the usual 'make it up as you go and make it look good' routine. "Ya know. I have to say, when you signed up for the Titans I expected you to be stronger!" he said, pushing his injuries to the back of his mind.

He was now taunting her, he wasn't even trying to hide it either. It was blatantly to make her mad and nothing else! Fun times for Oculos. Her cursing only made it more enjoyable...for him at least. Even with the experience of having lost her arm she seemed to mind temporarily losing the usefulness of her hand. He was glad to see that. It meant that if her hit her anywhere else, again, she would probably mind that too. He was strongly considering a foot next, or maybe a leg. If he was really lucky he could get her hips. Even though it was sadistic, he couldn't help but admit he almost always laughed when enemies ended up peeing there pants upon losing muscle control of their hips. 'I need a shrink.' he thought as that idea passed through his head. He would stick to legs.

He had to survive first though, which was easier said than done. Luckily, upon switching to Mission 'Gotta piss her off' he had switched to his kinetic beams, and upon being hailed upon by ammunition, he was able to erect a 'shield', of kinetic energy, in front of him, moving while doing so. His reaction was a moment late though, allowing a few bullets through and a single bullet to dig through his side, near the skin, but still under it, sliding through with ease. "That all ya got?" he said, spinning away from her blades, "Cuz I can promise you if it didn't work the first time. I won't fall for it...course, you probably are too dumb to come up with something new so keep on keeping on. Tell me if I need to slow down though. I don't want you to feel COMPLETELY outmatched!" he fired a beam of energy in front of her, not even to blind her. It simply sprayed rocks and pebbles into her face, it would sting, especially if one got in her eye, but he still waited, patiently, not even using the opportunity to attack. "Is surrendering looking better yet?" he said with a smile. His injuries were still there of course, but stinging a bit less as his new plan kept seeming more and more promising....in his head at least.

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeMon May 12, 2014 10:41 pm

“Funny,” Backlash chuckled through gritted teeth, “I could have said the same about you. Not too sure what you mean about applying for the Titans, though––where did you get that idea? Did you really miss me that much?” She grinned, then spat. “There’s absolutely no reason in this entire universe that would make me wanna join up with some teenyboppers in tights. I’m already on the A-Team. I fought creeps ten times more powerful than you back in Poland, and I beat them to a pulp.”

Even though just a handful memories had been selectively restored for the young super-teen, any knowledge of the not only applying for the Teen Titans, but also having been accepted, had been obliterated when the Zydons brainwashed her. Only flashbacks of violence and her darkest moments filled the cavities in Katarzyna Dolinski’s manipulated mind, just of anger and sadness and despair. She did not exaggerate her abilities, either; she really did take down massively powerful and just plain massive enemies before, mainly Russian invaders that had been souped up with powerful machinery with the occasional Polish madman with superpowers trying to take down the alleged ‘communist regime’ her country was accused of, rather misguidedly.

The rest of Oculus Lux’s half-assed rant was drowned out by a low buzzing in Backlash’s ears. The Zydon were trying to communicate with her through the implants they had installed deep within her eardrums, most likely to give orders to cut the chit-chat and get back to business. But instead, alien whispers wafted through her sense of hearing that taunted her, reminded their pawn of the night she had killed her mother, called her worthless and menial. Lux’s words may not have been able to enrage her, but the Zydons knew just the right buttons to push to put her into over-overdrive, a catalyst of venomous hatred. “Shut up,” Backlash murmured, “shut up, shut up, shut up, SHUT UP!” As the messages fizzled out, a visible surge of electricity pulsed from her body. Her hair stood up on end, and her eyes began to emit miniature bolts of lightning. Not enough to do any damage, granted, but still pretty freaky to look at. Well, not as freaky as Lux’s, but that was a hard match to beat.

Suddenly, a spray of pebbles obstructed her view and temporarily made her lose her focus. But none were able to do anything too annoying like getting in her eyes or mouth; each were deflected by the electric sparks emitted from her crimson gaze. Backlash just wiped what little debris she had on her face, her sweat making them stick to hey onix-coloured skin. She was really beginning to feel the heat, and shrugged off her iconic black leather trench coat to reveal an armour-like chest plate in which her power generator was nestled in. It looked somewhat robotic yet medieval, classic in shape but made from that handy-dandy Zydon metal she was so fond of. It was plain in style other than a small breach in it was visible, where Oculus’s blast had hit her abdomen. The interior had been lined with an electromagnetised material that could be used as both a defensive and offensive weapon. She also wore small sandals with gladiator-style wraps and hard metal soles rather than her mega-platform boots and a pair of breathable shorts. Along with her armour, it was revealed that she had a surprisingly muscular physique for someone as petite as she, but anyone who knew her background as a champion gymnast and kick-boxer wouldn’t be surprised.

Cracking her neck by tilting it to each side, the Polish self-made metahuman stood with a rigidity reminiscent of a coiled up snake, ready to strike. Her whips hummed and cracked and scorched everything they touched––the ground, the grass, the scattered rocks that had been washed up by the water surrounding the Teen Titans ages ago. The sun shone hot, and despite the fact that they were on an island, humidity was low. With that in mind, Backlash struck her whips across the ground hard and with so much voltage and heat that the overgrown grass lit on fire. The flame spread quickly, even began its way toward Titan’s Tower. Hopefully, Lux would be bothered enough to do something about it while she charged at him again, this time veering to the side just before reaching him, pushing off the ground with her right foot while keeping her left completely stationary as she pivoted to deliver a rough kick to the back of her opponent’s head, her body twisting and following the line of momentum she had built up. At the same time, she snapped her whips forward in attempt to bind him with their powerful and painful grip as her own wounds screamed, but were ignored through the blind rage with which Backlash fought.

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian)   Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Icon_minitimeSun May 25, 2014 12:13 pm

Ravian was a bit stunned by her lack of memory. He was one hundred percent sure that this was the girl that had been run by him. Lightning whips, check. Bad attitude, check. Really weird hair, check. Yep, this was definitely her. She had gotten a few upgrades but was still the same...if a bit angry. He let it go quickly though, it wasn't a fact he needed to hold on to. He had bigger things to worry about, his plan seemed to be working after all, she certainly was angry!

"I don't think you've beaten anyone tough as me. You've made me bleed but aren't gonna kill me. You're a long ways off from that! I've still got all my aces!" He was bluffing, mostly, he didn't really have all too much of an ace up his sleeve, not unless he got her into the air, then he knew he could take her down. Until then he was probably gonna have his hand full keeping up with her attacks.

He carefully examined her armor as she took off her jacket and only the armor, of course. It was an interesting getup, one that he had pretty clearly ruined with the bolt that had hit her, nice to know he had actually dealt a good deal of damage, too bad she seemed to be coping with it so well, he would much prefer being able to simply dodge around until she fell from her injuries, but if he didn't press on he was pretty sure he would be the one in that situation.

The sudden fire merely took his attention for a moment. He was quite used to fires and, after living in the tower for a bit, he was quite confident it wouldn't burn down. The steel and cement would take a gas fire, at the least, to take damage. That moment of distraction was more than enough though. Luckily, a kick to the back of his head was just about exactly what Ravian needed to get in gear....while he was on his way to the ground. Luckily, on the way down he caught a glimpse of those gleaming whips and quickly turned for his counter. Not enough time to get away, he would have to settle for getting her away.

His eyes lit up quite suddenly, causing a bright red flash as kinetic force radiated out of his eyes and, hopefully, into Backlash. The blast itself was very powerful. Unfortunately it wasn't going to send her flying off into the sunset like he had hoped. The kick to the back of his skull was a good move by Backlash. The back of the head was the perfect place to strike to mess with anyone's, including his, motor skills, something he needed good control of if he wanted to control of his powers. So instead of a devastating kinetic laser, he got a large burst, creating a wall of kinetic energy, pushing Backlash and her whips away from himself and about two dozen feet away from himself in the process. Not into the fire, darn, but closer to it than himself.

"Almost had me there!" he said, floating just slightly above the ground, having caught himself. His head was pounding and the sudden rush of stimuli sent another wave of blood crashing through the platelets his body had been trying to use to stop the bleeding. He righted himself, favoring his uninjured leg until pushing back off the ground a few inches and sending another, more directed bolt at her to keep her off balance.

Titans VS Zydon (Backlash and Ravian) Empty

Backlash just scoffed at Oculus, not even granting him a reply. Americans were so naive, believing that the only things that were important on the entire planet happened in their country. If he had even researched her, pulled up a YouTube video, Oculus would have found a series of recordings of Backlash taking down literal titans––large giant-like creatures that ate people––slaying invading Russian superheroes, leading the Polish special forces to expose and eliminate what was known as the Polish version of the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse––Zaraza, Wolna, Głyd, and Śmierć––and developed an electronic hacking system that would automatically track suspicious activity even on the most secure and protected servers, an invention that led to the eventual arrest and conviction of the infamous Niemczyk brothers, two international spies that leaked Polish military secrets to the country’s enemies. Tack on her most personal, most deliberate and heartless murders––that of her own father and best friend––and you had a sixteen-year-old-girl that had reaped more deaths than most adult villains.

So yes, Backlash had fought people much, much, much more powerful than Oculus. Leagues tougher, leagues rougher, more relentless. Psychotic and super-powered and deadly. Compared to them, Oculus might as well be a wounded fawn being preyed upon by an enraged and starving wolf. The only problem was that when Backlash had her memory wiped, a significant amount of her skills had been practically deleted from her memory. Had she retained all her memories, her combat training, her full powers and deep-seeded penchant for revenge, Oculus would be dead. She would have been able to fight off the Zydons who brainwashed her. Could have become one of the greatest Teen Titans in history. If only she had remained and remembered that path she had been steered toward.

No matter, though. Oculus Lux would die at the end of this battle, if not before it. His weaknesses were far too obvious, far to vulnerable to permit his survival for much longer. And the longer she fought, the more enraged Backlash would become. She had programmed to get more powerful as her rage boiled to a dangerous point. The voltage of the electricity she harnessed would be multiplied by leaps and bounds, the extent to which she could control metal was compounded and expanded. Oculus’s biggest mistake was to provoke her. He would experience that soon enough.

‘Aces?’ the girl mulled. ‘What’s he gonna do? Shoot me a literal death glare?’ Even so, Backlash knew to never underestimate an opponent. She had learned that first-hand, numerous times as her past and present opponents underestimated her, leaving them dead or dying in light of their ignorance. The fire didn’t seem to annoy Oculus Lux, which was disappointing but of not great importance; he had faith in his abode, that giant “T” that practically screamed, “Come and get me, villains!” She should have figured that, but hey––she was improvising. But not for much longer; she had a plan, and she was ready to put it into action. She noticed all of this as she successfully kicked him in the back of the head, but again was disappointed at how well he rebounded from a kick to the back of the skull with a steel-soled shoe. Mysteries, something she didn’t like. Another thing she didn’t like was surprises, which was what she got when she saw a red blast of energy coming from Oculus’s eyes, and while she braced herself for another blast to her abdomen or some other important body part, she was knocked back with what felt like a wall that hit her, causing the girl to fall amongst the growing flames that she had created. So, maybe it wasn’t the best idea, especially as the flames licked at her skin and singed her crimson ponytail.

Well, that was enough.

Oculus’s confidence in his precious Titans Tower inspired Backlash to do something a little different. Instead of charging in Oculus’s direction, she bolted the other way, closer to the tower, where an abundance of metal of all sorts of kinds lay at her disposal. If she was lucky, Oculus might make her job easier by hitting the sides of the tower a handful of times to dislodge the sturdiest parts. The Zydons had warned her to not go near, and especially not in the tower, because that would give the home team an advantage. But with that spaceship torn up pretty well, what better source of metal was there? With that, Backlash commanded a fair-sized chunk of the side of the tower to her command, leaving a precariously-balanced concrete arch. The interior of the tower had enough metal attached to it to make this move possible, and the sturdy metal bars that ran through the concrete made an even better choice of makeshift weapon. Using her good arm, Backlash hurled the block of wall and concrete and metal at Oculus, letting it soar far enough thanks to the magnetic push before ripping the metal bars from the concrete and controlling those to hover in a 360º, all-encompassing trap that restricted movement as the makeshift daggers hovered like toxic spikes, ready to bore into her foe’s flesh and dig into and through his bones. Backlash wasn’t here to hurt Oculus Lux––she was here to kill him. Destroy and deface his body and nail it to the front door of Titans Tower as a warning and a promise of the power, the brutality, and the unhinged mind that Backlash thrived on, like a vampire on blood, like a zombie on flesh, like an insatiable murderer that followed orders without question, killing her own kind as easily and effortlessly as a human would to an ant pile.

She manipulated roughly half of the metal bars to shoot toward Oculus Lux and watched as the concrete slab continued its path of destruction. And whilst she did so, the Polish super-teen began sending electrical charges to her human hand to re-activate the nerves and allow her even more lethality.
