A Tired Little Fox (Mega)

Fox was panting with exhaustion when he got home.  Needing a good three minutes to find his key to the apartment, mostly as his pockets were filled with stolen goods from the museum.  He felt tired, and scared, and a little angry too oddly enough.  When he finally found his key he stuck it in the slot and unlocked the door before going inside, locking it behind him before shutting it.  Feeling a little secure now he stumbled toward the couch and just flopped down on it face first as he let his illusions drop and his tails uncurl from around his waist.

"Uhhhhhg..."  Fox moaned into the pillow of the couch before leaning up just enough to pull his mask off and let it drop to the floor.  He felt awful.  He'd used too much magic, way too much.  Worse yet he hadn't told Weaver where he had been going, so she couldn't have helped him if things had gone badly.  As it was the idiot who'd ruined his perfect heist had at least managed to make a good distraction, with most of the security chasing after that idiot and ignoring the stealthy little Kitsune.  Still, as he was at the moment he couldn't have warded off an infant, let alone an actual security guard or worse!

Adri was else where in the house. They had both been busy, and with some added help they had managed to upgrade from an apartment to an actual home. Wasn't the fanciest looking home by any means but that better served her purposes. Would appear strange to go from an apartment to a mansion, even if no one actually said anything about it. Until there was an actual business to back her, there wasn't a logical explanation for them to have a mansion. Which was actually something she had been working on in her spare time. Having her own business that was "mostly" on the up and up. That didn't mean she wouldn't exploit it for extra profit through other means.

But it would take time to establish herself as a reputable clothing designer. She was going through a magazine to see what some of the "in" styles were when she felt something pass through one of her invisible wires. Ever the one to be cautious, even at home she had laid out "tripwires" with her more aetherial strings to detect people. After hearing the door unlock normally, Adriana relaxed and got up after setting her magazine down. "I take it you had a rough day?" She asked with a hint of concern.

Fox's ears perked up when he heard the familiar voice of Adri, but he kept his face buried in the couch cushion as if he simply didn't have the strength to turn over.

"Some idiot almost ruined everything and I had to bolt with my shadow step... I don't feel well."  Fox replied at the comment of a rough day.  In reality it had been an awful night for him, basically puking up his guts after having to use his trump card twice in one night without the proper time to recover.

"And I think I need a breath mint..."  Fox added as he managed to roll over onto his side, his pockets giving off a soft and muffled jingling noise as he did so.

Adriana silently went back into the kitchen, a small tingling sound as something was poured into a bowl. She would return shortly, setting a bowl of peppermints on the coffee table. "These should help, and they'll settle your stomach," she said sitting on the arm of the couch. She didn't really show it but she was upset that he had gone off on a heist without telling her. But she didn't really have the heart to dwell on that for too long. "So this guy, was he there to stop you?" She asked curiously, also wanting to know details. If it was just some random vigilante she would feel better then if it had been a titan or better known "hero."

Fox's ears twitched as Adri went into the kitchen and poured something into a bowl. When she set the bowl of peppermints on the table Fox reached out and grabbed a couple, popping them into his mouth to suck on for a bit. They certainly did help with his breath after having thrown up back on the roof of that one building, and sure enough they did help settle his tummy as well.

When Adri asked if the guy he was talking about had been there to stop him he almost laughed, but not quite.

"No, the big dummy was there to rob the place too. Only he was an idiot about the whole thing! He comes crashing in through the skylights, setting off every alarm in the place, and then starts tossing guards around while wrecking the place! Stupid jerk didn't even seem to be after anything in particular, it was like he was just coming in to help himself to whatever he could get at. It was so... so... unprofessional!" Fox said, sounding exasperated by the whole ordeal.

"And I was so careful with disabling the alarms and cameras on my way to what I was after, and that idiot just storms in like a bumbling cow. At the very least he had everyone after him so I managed to slip away without notice, and I got what I was after too!" Fox added, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a large object that was wrapped with a bit of cloth. He plonked the item on the table, gesturing for Adri to go ahead and take it.

"I wanted to give you that as a surprise..." Fox added, his ears flattened against his head in embarrassment.

Adriana resettled herself onto the couch when Fox finally sat up, listening intently to what he was saying. That was what she hated to refer to as "bad luck." To be honest, she hadn't encountered too many encounters with another thief. Well- based on the description, a robber was a more accurate title. And yes, there was a difference in her mind. "What is it?" Adriana blinked when he mentioned he had something for her, blushing very slightly. She wasn't a big fan of surprises but Fox was helping her warm up to them. And if he kept getting things like this, she could even start to like them. "That's a big gemstone," she commented offhandedly, picking it up and looking at it more closely.

"Hehehe! I know it is! That's why I wanted to get it for you." Fox said with a grin, enjoying being able to get nice things for Adri when he could.

"The museum had so many traps and alarms around that thing that it took hours just to get near it without alerting anyone. I had just managed to pocket that ruby when that bone brain came crashing in through the skylight and wrecked my plans. I did manage to grab a few other things that you can sell off through Sinbad too since I was already there." Fox reached into his other pockets and pulled out several rather ancient looking necklaces, bracelets, and a few rings. Each was made of precious metals and studded with gems and engraved with elaborate markings. The looked Egyptian in make judging from the markings on the items, probably belonging to some old pharaoh or high priest or something. Fox had an eye for gems, so he knew each and every one of the pieces he'd nabbed was worth a pretty penny.

"There was some fancy looking name on the case for the ruby, but I uh, didn't have time to catch what it was called." Fox added, covering up the fact that he couldn't read English yet. Hopefully Adri was too concerned with his little haul to catch onto that until he could remedy that fact.

Unfortunately for Fox, Adri was already well aware of his inability to read English. Became obvious when he somehow always wriggled out of ordering anything for himself ever. Or the reading a menu upside down because it didn't have pictures of the food. And a few other things which aren't important enough to mention again. Good thing she wasn't overly superstitious, or she wouldn't touch these egyptian artifacts. But Luck was about as far as she went in that area. "I'll make sure to get these to Sinbad when I can. Are you hungry?" She asked curiously.

Thankfully Fox was blissfully unaware that Adri had already seen through his little ruse when it came to reading English. When she asked if he was hungry he nodded before answering verbally.

"Yeah, I used a lot of magic. I feel like I could eat an entire ramen shop's worth of noodles!" Fox stated with much conviction. Heck with the usual way he packed away food it wouldn't be surprising if he really could put a shop out of business when he was hungry from overusing his magic.

"Do we have any chicken left over from last night?" He asked hopefully, not at all picky about what he could his paws on at the moment. Now that Adri had mentioned it he simply couldn't stop thinking about how hungry he was!

"I'll go heat some up then," Adri smiled slightly, heading back into the kitchen to scavenge through the fridge. Normally with someone like her, there would be a number of leftovers for the fact that she tried not to let anything go to waste. But with Fox around that was not so much the case any more. It didn't bother her too much, she just didn't want it to go to waste either way.

"Thank you..." Fox let out in a near groan, still feeling rather unwell due to overuse of magic. He continued to lay on the couch, his ears twitching as he listened to Adri move about in the kitchen. Even as he listened to her he still couldn't help but think about that stupid schmuck who had so very nearly ruined the entire museum heist. After all, what kind of idiot just dives in through a skylight!?! At the very least they'd probably blame that jerk for all of the thefts as Fox had been smart enough to keep all the cameras obscured by shadows on his route to and from the janitor's closet where he had used his shadow step to make his entrance and getaway.

As he thought back on it he popped another mint into his mouth. Thankfully the little mints did help settle his stomach a bit as well as freshen his breath, and sort of tide him over as Adri warmed up some leftovers for him. He was so happy that Adri had taken him in and been so nice to him, and he was even happier that he could show his appreciation to her by getting her such nice things... like that ruby he'd stolen tonight. He grinned at that thought, his tails wagging just a bit.

While she heated up some leftovers, she prepared a small side dish to go with it. Didn't take too long to figure out what Fox liked- chicken mostly, and she did enjoy oriental food too. Soon she emerged from the kitchen with their plates, some cans of arizona green tea attached to some strings hanging from her hands. "Here you go," she said setting Fox's drink and plate down first. Adriana became vaguely aware of the fact the dining table she bought was still just sitting in the background. It looked nice. But it was just more comfortable to eat in the living room!

Fox manages to move to a sitting position as Adri brings the food and drinks into the living room. He happily starts to eat some of the chicken before getting into his story on what had happened tonight.

"Sorry I didn't tell you what I was doing tonight. I wanted it to be a surprise. I was putting in a lot of time checking that place out, getting the inside all mapped out in my head, all that good stuff you taught me about doing before going in." Fox said, starting his story. He tells how he'd spent almost a week looking into getting at the museum, also hinting at how it was the same place that had held the statue he'd been stuck in. When he finally got around to what happened tonight he slowed down some.

"So I'm cutting the glass on the display case, all smooth and everything. Then next thing I know this big stupid jerk just crashes in through the skylight! He made enough noise that anyone could have heard him from like a mile away!" Fox details the way the man looked, the odd powers he seemed to have, and above all he made sure that Adri knew how big of an idiot the guy was. Was he a tad biased in his description? Probably, but he felt it was true.

"Then I came back here after resting on a roof for awhile." Fox leaned against Adri and nuzzled at her a bit, showing how happy he was to be back home.

Adriana quietly ate her food, nodding every so often while Fox told of his little adventure. "Don't make a habit of it..." she added after he apologized for not telling her. If things had gone worse- it would probably not be that long until she found out if he had gone to jail. But that was still in the 'best case' scenario. Adriana didn't want to even start thinking about anything worse. She would have been slightly confused by this if she hadn't been listening to Fox continue his story.

"Yea, people with more aggressive powers like that feel like they can take on the world. But there's always someone more powerful out there," Adriana agreed with his clearly biased opinion that the guy was an idiot.

"He also smelled like a dirty lizard too." Fox added before going back to munching on his food, washing it down with a big gulp from his beverage.

"I'll make sure I tell you whenever I play on something big from now on." Fox said, his ears lowering as he made his 'sad puppy' face. While it was one he usually did to get out of something, it was also one he did when he was genuinely sorry. He nuzzled more against Adri to show that he was sorry if he'd made her worry about him.
