The Crash [open to one, then ask]

He fell, it was so long. He streaked toward the junk yard burning a trail through the sky. Before he crashed into a pile of garbage. He was disabled due to the heat and his camera was damaged. He had a massive hole in his chest. He wasn't aware of the passage of time, his thousands of personalities were temporarily shut down.

Delinquency was so appealing because it often turned a profit. The gang Pix represented had several sneaky ways to make a quick buck. One of these involved stealing sources of iron off the street and selling them to a scrap merchant. Anything could go, but you got the most money for your dollar off of manhole covers. They were heavy – it took four lads to lift them. Each cover had inscriptions soldered into them, which needed melting off. Otherwise they were ideal.
 
Unless you were alone.
 
Due to a recent spout of arrests, Hugh found himself more often on his own. He could not hope to lift all that metal by himself. Which brought him to wonder where he could find lighter sources of scrap. The answer was so obvious. Hopping the fence, ignoring its barbed wiring, Pix entered the junk-yard compound. It was time to sell the merchant what he already owned.
 
A conveyor belt of pixels helped shift his chosen pieces into a pick-up truck parked just outside. Hugh ferreted through an unexplored treasure trove of precious metals. Weird stuff cropped up often. Though none as weird as the humanoid shaped droid he found. The sprite hesitated as he looked it over. He expected to touch metallic material, and instead found parts soft and malleable. Skin-like. His own skin began to crawl.
 
A blend of circuitry and synthetics appeared to make up this robot's constitution. In a way, the very idea sickened Hugh. He was offended at attempts to put humans and robots on an equal pedestal. And there was no escaping that categorisation – this thing was a robot. He had decided.
 
A short while later Pix had connected an old car battery to the droid. The gaping hole in its chest cavity was discouraging, but he hoped there was still a spark of life to be found in it. Its placement in the junk-yard suggested whatever task this tin-can used to have was beyond its capabilities now. But Hugh figured he could make it put on a show long enough to sell it for some big cash.

He felt it a spark his powerplant reactivated and his camera lit up like a flashlight. He moved his hands and then began to stand looking at the boy in front of him. "Organic." He began to try scanning Hugh but then felt where the scanners had been. He put his hand in the hole and said. "We are damaged. Scanners non functional. Unknown planet." His camera focused on Hugh and he said. "Organic please identify world."

When a tremor of movement first caught his eye, Hugh called out, "Yes!" Then to his surprise the droid managed to stand (). So whatever electronics used to fill that hole mustn't have controlled mobility or balance. Not a design based on the central-nervous system then, seeing as it could bypass some missing connections. The technology was even more sophisticated than he would have guessed.
 
Audio functions were also normal. The robot began to speak. Pix did not acknowledge the exact words; 'unknown world' could have meant anything in computer jargon, but he did react to the nature of its speech, "Whoa. Slow down. I know your CPU hasn't had time to process the situation yet, but you've gotten this backwards. I'm asking the questions here. Tell me your name and function, or I'll pull your plug again."
 
It was necessary to put robots in their place. They were so advanced these days, that exercising their illusionary free-will could create bugs, "You're a machine. If I decide you need turning off, you won't have a say in the matter. So let's start being a little more user friendly." Of course, his position of dominance was assuming the car-battery was the sole power source in operation here.

The robot looked down at his chasis and saw the jumper cables attached to him. He pulled them off and said. "We are a terminal of the geth. We request you cease hostile activity before we are forced to duplicate your actions. We have no name we are not an individual."

The robot was clearly working just fine without the external power and it grabbed what looked like a small tube from its hip. It began expanding and altering itself into a pistol. "Please inform us of the world so we can request an extraction." Legion stared him down towering over the young teen.

At the droid's impertinence, Pix was ready to unleash another lecture on the relationship between servant and master. However, the situation took an unexpected turn. A device of advanced technology was deployed, loosely resembling that of a gun. Its appearance made Hugh take a step back (o_O) before realising bullets couldn't hurt him. A second thought prevented him from recovering his stature - what if it didn't shoot bullets?
 
"L-Let's just take it easy. Put our arms to our sides." Typical he would encounter a robot that was malfunctioning. So screwy it was threatening the very 'organics' it was designed to serve, "When I said user-friendly, I wasn't taking about the Windows 8 version of the term." Pix had never heard of the Geth before, neither had he seen this technology. Was it possible that... "Well we call this place Earth. But surely you know that. You're speaking English. Either you were built on this world or you creators were acutely aware that we and our language existed."

The unit said quite plainly as it set it's gun back into the holster and it seemed to vanish into his design. He listened to Pix without looking at him and took every detail in before he said seriously. "We have connected to your worlds extranet and downloaded information on your languages for this communication. Your worlds security measures are quite lacking, they don't even have a single AI to run stop protocols against us."
The robot looked down at Pix and said. "We know not the location of this Earth, which star system are we in. What technology is preventing us from hailing our brothers?"

Inconceivable - aliens. Or not so inconceivable... Hugh's father was certainly never outspoken against their existence. Several of the damn Justice Leaguers were aliens. Extra-terrestrials were a documented fact by now. A fact shrouded in years of science fiction, but a fact nevertheless. It had been by great fortune (or misfortune) that Hugh had stumbled upon a piece of their technology. A device he would have little to no hope of comprehending.
 
Hugh's inquiry received an answer he had not considered. Concerns were raised when the robot claimed to have basically hacked its way inside a free-floating network connection. To have derived an understanding of English from that in just a few seconds foretold a processing power that put modern computers to shame. It would make short work of the entire internet at this rate. Fortunately the number of lolcat memes might slow it down.
 
"We live in the 'it wouldn't mean anything to you' star system. Unless by an uncanny coincidence we call it to the same thing your creators refer to it as. But then you would also have a chocolate bar called the Milky Way." Ever the pedantic, Pix saw no immediate relevance to the questions, and therefore assumed they were pointless. Local terms for galactic phenomenon should mean nothing to an alien.
 
He did, however, latch on to a single word, "Hang on. Brothers? There are more of you screwy droids out there?" The thought suddenly terrified Hugh. A lifetime of invasion movies reinforced the worry. Could it be that this was a scouting mission? Some warring species were looking to acquire all information they could on Earth? Pix may not have the interest of the masses at heart, but he was still a loyal Earthling. He couldn't put mankind in jeopardy from aliens. Local villains maybe, but not foreigners.
 
He attempted to correct his mistake, "Maybe your communications got damaged when you went offline. I could take a look." (>_>)

The robot listened to Hugh intently it's camera focused on his face glowing bright blue. Legion took everything in his many persona's tearing the information apart disecting and analyzing each word. It took him a full 20 seconds to respond building a concensus among himself.

The robot stepped back from the man and said calmly. "We don't think you are a qaulified medic for us. You have referred to us as droid, a slang term for a robot. We are not a robot we are a synthetic form of life." The robot stepped back farther from him and put a hand on a smaller tube on it's hip. "Do not approach or we will assume you are attacking us."

Synthetic lifeform? If you have an on/off switch, mate, you're a damn robot! Pix fumed inwardly, preventing his sheer prejudice from correcting this misinformed clanker. Bigger things were afoot than getting one miserable robot to admit he was right. If the retched thing had been programmed wrong then it wouldn't be much of an argument anyway.
 
"This unqualified medic is the reason you're even talking." (>.<) Grabbing ahold the reins of his irritation, Hugh concentrating on solving the rapidly deteriorating situation. The sprite replied with a more empathetic tone, "But you're right. Don't trust my hazy understanding of your physiological differences. I don't need to know what you are - that's what you machines are for."
 
A small gesture was made. Amongst the mounds of junk sat scattered the odd discarded TV or computer monitor. Each screen suddenly shimmered with activity. The pixels of each peeled off and began to orbit the two beings. These were not a natural element. Pixels existed freely only when called into existence by a metahuman - or so we knew. They were not a documented phenomenon on the internet.
 
"These are nanobots." Pix claimed ashamedly (^_^), presenting a textbook bluff, "Given time they can nurse you back to health. They are what I used before. So technically I don't even have to approach you." He chuckled ironically, conscious of the need to relieve tension, "Let them look you over. Could sought out your communication problem. Could help you achieve your priority of contacting your 'brothers'." (-__-)
