The Hunt [EVENT]

Barlowe was sound asleep in bed, finally able to get alitte shut eye with his change of duties down at the department. Suffice to say he was definitely enjoying having some "time off" from his normal duties to handling local metahuman youths attending the specially built highschool. Some were more pleasant to deal with, but Three Oni had more or less been put on hold and he didn't have any other more pressing cases besides The Skulls and Mafia dealings; normal stuff really. But today was to be his day off... until his phone rang. Barlowe woke with a start and glared at the phone for a moment before reaching over and grabbing it, it was the chief. "So much for a day off..." he thought sitting up and picking up.

"Before you say a damned thing, we need you down here immediately. Have you checked your phone recently? If not don't worry about it, just get down here," The Chief said before he even had a chance to make any snide remarks or even say hello. Barlowe did check his phone for a moment and noticed he got a message from a number he didn't recognize, with a link to a site he was sure he didn't want to check out; anyone that just randomly picked up numbers or checked these out were naive to think nothing was up. The message itself wasn't too suspect, almost looked like someone had meant to send it to someone else. But he better get down to the station before the chief called back, and so he quickly got dressed before heading out.


Down at the station, there was a lot of activity. There hadn't been this much excitement since DOMA comandeered their station. "Someone tell me what the hell is going on? And can someone get me a coffee?" Barlowe called out to no ine particular until the chief looked away from a large monitor.

"Barlowe! Over here!" She called, and Barlowe made his way over to where several other detectives and officers were gathered. "About 3 in the morning, weird text messages were sent out. We only know this because after the first person dumb enough to open the link inside opened it, they immediately phoned it in and it took off from there. THIS here is where that link takes us- recognize any one?" She asked him as much as everyone else there.

"Looks like some of the big men in charge of the mafia in Jump," Barlowe replied finally getting his coffee- still tasted terrible but it'd get the job done.

"We don't know HOW this happened or who's behind it yet, but they've tapped into phone records and used their phones to dig up as much dirt on them as possible. More importantly... they have bounties on their heads," The Chief continued, referring to the clear as day dollar total below their pictures. Barlowe noted that some of them were mug shots, particularly the lower standing ones they had managed to arrest before making bail or whatever loopholes they pulled outta their ass. Others... Barlowe was surprised by the angles, and noted that some had multiple pictures when there needed to be more accuracy. The only way they'd be able to get these pics would've been to use the cameras on their phones.

"We've already tried tracking down where these messages came from, but because of the varying numbers we can't get a bead on it. We've also tried to track down the server THIS site is being hosted on but until we find it, we've been getting reports on activity from Three Oni and The Sunset Skulls, and have already been finding bodies. We have a full on gangwar in effect, and someone REALLY wants The Mafia gone. Because of how widespread this chaos is going to be, MRO have already been dispatched to lend us a hand- which means that human hating toaster is also out there right now," The Chief continued, and Barlowe sighed deeply. He knew a gangwar would be inevitable once The Mafia drew first blood from Three Oni. DOMA seemed to only delay it from happening abit longer.

"So you just need bodies to throw at the problem and do damage control? Alright- has anyone seen the titans these days? Because this'd be a helluva lot easier with their help..."

Someone has a warrred.

Things have been getting kinda peaceful with slice of life stuff and all that. Plus I was planning to do this ever since I got that "contractors" section all set up. But basically, any and every phone or device capable of getting a text message from a spoofed number, which seems innocent enough to disregard. But if it IS opened, they will be taken to an unknown website that has the information stated above. Photos, last known whereabouts, most seen in places- etc. There's also simple instructions... basically snap a pic of the kill. Basically someone has it in for the mafia and has put out a citywide manhunt with a bounty for EVERY ONE OF THEM. Higher priority targets are worth more, naturally.

Details on recieving payment is also included and a smart person would realize that someone accessing the site has already allowed The Hacker into their phone and so on. There's other more convoluted ways to go about this but Cyber Magic is easiest to explain and accurate for this situation. Unless stated otherwise, there's nothing huge for a reward other than your character getting paid for "cleaning up" the streets. Heroes have a chance to actually do hero stuff, and whether or not the titans actually get involved remains to be seen. I might throw Robin into the grinder... maybe.

I don't expect too many people to get involved in it but hopefully this'll spark some superhero justice and stuff for the short time it lasts.
