Everything had gone well up until this point. She had trouble pronouncing Earth to get the pod started originally, but now everything was smooth sailing, or is it smooth flying? Well she was in space, for awhile, and it was perfectly okay with her because she got to see all the beautiful planets and stars. For a whole week she just ate dehydrated meat and watched the stars, unsure of what was going to happen when she got to this Earth, or how she was going to get off of it. She had this burning desire to attach herself to something, but she doubt humans would help that.
Cue finally arrived to the outskirts of Earth, she looked in awe at the blue and green planet, smiling. It was just like the ugly lady described it to her! It was all worth it! Well, it was worth it, until everything started flashing red and beeping. Not being able to understand the language the pod was built in, Cue started flipping out as well, pressing as many buttons as possible. The pod was going down hard and fast.

To the people of Jump City, the pod would look like a regular shooting star, except this one was a lot bigger and a lot closer than usual. The red pod would crash in the Mesa, going pretty deep in the ground due to the impact. Cue's head definitely hurt, but when she woke up everything was dark and the back of the pod was caved in. That couldn't be good. She had several scratches on her arms, but nothing too bad. At least it didn't kill her.
Now... How to get out?

"What am I doing out here?"

Lewis looked at the navigation app on his phone. A green arrow was urging him forward, while an annoying voice told claimed he would reach his destination in two minutes.

"Yeah right. I'm in the middle of nowhere. You've gotten us lost, GPS. Are you happy now?"

Suddenly, there was a very bright light. It was coming closer. It was coming a lot closer! What on earth was that thing?!?

Lewis slammed both feet on the brakes as the light slammed into the ground in front of him. His car shook and jolted.

When he opened his eyes, he saw a large metallic object half buried in the dirt. Whatever it was, it seemed to be damaged.

"You have arrived at your destination."

Lewis put his car in park and got out. Could this be what he thought it was? An alien ship? It was clearly a vessel of some sort. It was also clear that this was no landing. It was a crash. Was anyone still inside? Were they hurt?

Grabbing some gloves from his car, he studied the craft, trying to figure it out. One part of the ship seemed much weaker than the rest. Lewis grabbed hold of it and pulled. It didn't move much at first. This was a really strong metal. Even though it was so beaten up, he was still having a hard time bending it.

The piece of metal finally moved, revealing a pink humanoid with horns below.

Yep. It was aliens.

"Welcome to Earth," Lewis said, still catching his breath. He wasn't sure if she spoke any human language, much less English. But hey, at least she was humanoid. That was going to make things a lot easier than if she was...you know...a giant bug or something. This was hardly the first alien that had traveled to Earth. They were still extremely uncommon, but everyone was familiar with Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Starfire, right? Whatever the reason, Lewis didn't feel afraid. He was calm.

He tried not to make himself look threatening, hoping that his mannerisms would be interpreted the same way a human would interpret them. He held a hand out to help the strange, alien girl out of her broken pod. "Can I help you out?"

The ringing in Cue's ears were slowing down, now at a low thumping. She wasn't quite in her head just yet, maybe it was the different atmosphere, or the awful crash that a regular human most likely wouldn't have survived. Blinking slowly, the panel that was damaged above her head was creaking. Before she knew it, the panel was peeled back, revealing a.. human? She wasn't exactly sure what they looked like, but this was Earth, to her knowledge all Earthlings lived on this planet, it didn't take a noble to put that together.
When her eyes adjusted the evening light, she focused on the Human's face. He looked like he was of working class with how big his arms were, especially when he reached out to her. He didn't look unfriendly, and even said something to her which she didn't understand. The only thing she got out of that was Earth, which was good, meaning she landed on the right planet. Hesitantly, Cue reached out her hand and took his, pulling herself up. She quickly grabbed her back pack, making sure to grab the bag of beef jerky. For whatever ungodly reason that package made it on to a slave ship in the emergency packs.

Cue made several clicking noises as a way to communicate, only to realize that no one could understand her. She never thought about reading up on the language they speak here? So far she knew one word. "Earth?" The alien asked him, not entirely sure what to say. The alien held herself in a very graceful manner, but the way she watched the human was almost child like wonder. She was extremely excited to finally be out and seeing things for her own eyes, it didn't even hit her yet on what her next move was, she just wanted to learn.
The alien was also trying to show that she was friendly, if that wasn't obvious enough. She offered him her bag of beef jerky, watching to see how he reacted.

Behind her, the ship started making beeping noises, two long wires erupting from the sides and shoving itself into the ground. Cue had no idea what that meant or why it was doing, she didn't even care if it was dangerous, she was staring at the human the entire time to the point where it might unintentionally make him uncomfortable.
However, the red light that glowed in the machine hub was now slowly turning green.

The alien made a series of clicks and then repeated the word Earth. Lewis sighed. So much for translators from space. At least she was capable of speaking like a human.

The alien was studying Lewis closely, and he was studying her just as intensely. He almost didn't notice the shop was doing things. So far, it wasn't doing anything inherently threatening. Lewis stared into the alien's pink eyes and smiled. Other people might get lost in the novelty of talking to an alien, or wonder at the significance. But Lewis had no stars in his eyes. This alien was interesting, of course, but at the end of the day she was just another person.

"Yes, Earth." Lewis put a hand on his chest. "Lewis." Hopefully, she would take the gesture as an introduction.

She was holding out a bag of...beef jerky? Lewis accepted some and took a bite. Yep. That was beef. Had this alien been on Earth before?

He affirmed in his motions, or at least that's what it seemed like. She wasn't amazing at reading body language, but this human seemed friendly enough, right? He even patted his chest and said.. Lew..is? Was that his name? It definitely sounded like he was introducing himself, he even took a bite of her beef jerky, which definitely meant he was nice. "Lewis..." She repeated, taking out the tiny hammer from her back pack. In return, Cue patted her chest and tried to introduce herself. "Cuelphihly... Cue..." The alien shortened her own name because she knew humans didn't have the proper speech pattern to pronounce, especially since there was clicking involved.
It wasn't like she didn't trust the humans, but well, it didn't hurt to be sorry, right? The alien pressed a button on the tiny hammer and it instantly grew in size. It was bigger than both of the two combined and she carried it on her shoulder like it was a hand bag. She pointed towards the city lights and made more clicking noises, hoping that this Lewis would show her Earth things.

Good. The introductions were going well. Cue's name was a bit difficult to pronounce, so she gave Lewis a shortened version.

Cue pulled out a mini hammer, pushed a button, and made the hammer huge. Lewis took a step back, looking very startled. He hadn't expected that.

It should also be noted that the hammer now looked like it weighed several hundred pounds, but Cue was holding it with one hand, with little effort. Super strength? She wouldn't be the first alien to possess that power.

Cue could prove to be a very...useful ally. But first, he needed to be able to communicate with her without relying on charades. There were rumors that Starfire had the ability to learn a language with a kiss. Lewis doubted the same thing would work with Cue. She didn't appear to be the same species as Starfire. He could always try bringing her to Starfire. No, that wouldn't work. Getting involved in the Titans would be too complicated. Plus, he didn't want Starfire to understand Cue. He wanted to understand Cue himself.

An idea came to mind. He opened the passenger door to his car and gestured for Cue to get inside. She seemed interested in the city. Good, because that's where they were going.

Lewis pulled out his phone and refreshed the navigation app. The GPS was now telling him to go back into town. Thank goodness. "Cue, we're going shopping." If she got in, he would speed away towards the city.

She was planning on using her hammer as a way to make a path through the giant bricks and lights over in the city, but Lewis seemed to have other plans. She plopped her hammer on the ground behind her when her opened the space ships door, gesturing for her to get inside. The alien took one look at the hammer, then back at the ship, then back at the hammer. How did she make it go small again? She did it once before, there must be a button or something.
After pushing the giant hammer deeper into the ground, she finally found the part of the handle that twisted slightly, making the hammer key chain sized. The alien clicked her tongue happily and picked up the hammer, rushing to the ship that he pointed at.

She got in the side seat and shut the door behind her, waiting for take off... except it didn't fly.. it didn't hover... it was on the ground? This seemed like a useless ship, but many other useless ships passed by them as well? Maybe earth people weren't as advanced as the aliens on the ship described? Or maybe she just landed in a weird part of Earth.
Thinking about all of this, Cue started pressing the buttons to her right, making the ship lock and unlock. She then hit a button that made the window go down! What!? They can't do that in space because your head would explode instantly! Maybe Earth technology was seriously high tech!

With all this in her head, the girl practically jumped in her seat and looked at Lewis, grinning. "Lewis!" She said happily, pointing out the window. She was amazed that she wasn't dead, even though logistically that didn't make sense at all.
Following this she started messing with the air vents, flipping them up and down, wondering what they were supposed to do. Ventilate radiation?

Oh good grief. She was playing with the buttons. Was it too late to kick her out? Yeah, it definitely was. Cue discovered windows and was apparently very excited about it. Lewis just kept driving.

But Cue was driving him crazy. Now she was playing with the air vents. Lewis reached out to gently grab her hands and put them in her lap. He shook his head, hoping the message would be clear enough.

They were back to civilization now, and Lewis found the place he had originally been looking for. It was an absolute dump, and to be fair to the GPS, was still on the edge of the city. The car came to a stop, and Lewis got out, making a bit of a show as to how to open the door properly. He didn't want Cue ripping the door off the hinges or anything. He gestured for her to follow again.

Ratzo's Shop was just as much a junk pile on the inside as it was on the outside. Fans were everywhere, trying to keep the temperature below the boiling point. Some of the fans even worked. Blackened fly traps were hanging from the ceiling.

Was this really the right place?

A greasy, heavy man behind the counter was reading a comic book. He dropped it in an ashtray as Lewis approached.

"Alien language translator."

Ratzo glanced at Cue, then nodded. "Got something here that should work for her." Ratzo looked through a pile of odd looking electronics. Lewis was sure that he saw the guy pick up a laser rifle and toss it aside. This was the right place alright.

"Here we go," Ratzo said. "These babies aren't impossible to find, but it's going to cost you something. Five hundred dollars. You won't find another one for less. I checked. I always check."

Lewis wasn't completely sure if he was being taken advantage of, here. But he needed the translator, more than he needed what he was originally coming here to buy. "If it works, the money's yours." Ratzo nodded and flipped a switch. The red light on the small box lit up. The whole device was the size of a deck of cards, and it could supposedly make anyone hear spoken words in their own language. Lewis looked at Cue. "Hello, Cue. Can you understand me now?"

As she continued to mess around with all the crazy features, Lewis grabbed her hands and put it back in her lap. Apparently that was a no no, so she instead straightened up and looked out the window, not touching anything else again. Her reaction to him telling her what to do was almost like a dog.
The rest of the car ride she was completely silent, until he stopped the ship and got out, emphasizing how to use a door. She followed suit, getting out of the ship slowly and shutting the door carefully, not wanting to break the door on accident. She still had no idea where they were going, she just hoped he was going to show her some earth things... like earth food!

Cue followed behind Lewis with her hands crossed in front of her, not daring to walk next to him. It was a sign of respect to be behind someone when walking, so she was hoping he understood? Nonetheless the place he took her too looked awful. She was hoping all Earth didn't look like this because this place looked like a pile of junk!
Soon after they arrived a giant human walked out and was throwing things around, making Cue slightly on edge. Was he friendly? He started talking to Lewis, and he actually responded. She really wish she could understand them, but in the mean time she was staring up at the sky, her hands clasped together. While she was lost in the moment, she suddenly heard Lewis call her name.. and then.. he asked if she could understand him? What.. how did she.. "Wait... Yes.. I can.. How are you doing that?" Cue asked, leaning closer to Lewis with her eyes squinted. Of course she had to look up, considering he had a whole foot of height on her, but still.

"Does this mean you can understand me as well?" She probed, still unsure with the entire situation. Her home world wasn't very technologically advanced, but if he managed to find a way to understand her, well, that changes everything! Especially if she could now speak to humans!

Lewis smiled, and handed Ratzo the money. His blood, sweat, and tears had gone into earning that cash, but money was made to be spent. And understanding an alien girl like Cue was definitely worth it.

"I can understand you too, yes." Lewis held up the device. "Thanks to this device. It's a translator. Earth hasn't always had the friendliest visitors from other planets, but many of them left some useful technology behind. But now, we should leave."

He guided her back to the car. The translator was now fixed to his belt. If course, he could have given Cue the device, but he hadn't. He chose to hold into it himself. If Cue wanted to understand anyone here on Earth, she would need to stay by his side.

"So Cue, what brings you to earth. What do you wish to find here?"

He could understand her! For real! That's crazy! Apparently a device left by previous aliens gave humans the technology to be able to listen to other aliens? She wondered what kinds of aliens could possibly have visit, especially since this place was still in tact. Of course it could be the alien that visited Cue's people, just showed up and took supplies. It was hard to say.
She followed behind him closely and watched as he strapped the device on his belt. The alien got into the car and shut the door gently behind her, immediately placing her hands on her laps so she didn't touch anything of his.

He asked her why she was here and what she wanted to find. "Well I was apart of supplies taken from my world, and as I was with the traders I realized how massive the universe was outside my planet. This one woman told me about Earth so i ruined their ship and escaped to here!" She explained, leaving out details so she didn't bore him. "I left my purpose back on homeworld, so I'm just browsing the galaxy suppose. Taking in the wonder." Cue told him, running her hand through her hair and placing it back on her lap.
"What about you? What are you doing here, what do you wish to find?"

She was a resource? Could she possibly mean that she was taken from her planet as a slave? It certainly sounded like it, especially when she talked about escaping. This was bad news. The universe could be a hard place. The human race was far from perfect. They were responsible for countless atrocities. But from the sound of it, humans were nothing special. The universe was full of monsters.

Cue talked about her enslavement and escape as though she was just discussing the weather. She certainly seemed to be taking things...well. Based on some of her actions, he wondered if she had been a slave before leaving her planet.

When she asked about him, he was actually caught off guard. What was he looking for? "Purpose," he said. "I'm looking for something worth doing, for a way to leave my mark on this world."

They were driving through the city streets now. There was a lot to see. Humans were everywhere, of course, but so were buildings, trees, birds, signs, and a whole world of other things. Lewis was sure it was a lot to take in. He kept his eyes on the road as he spoke.

"Cue, is there any chance that your owners will come to get you? If they do, I will do what I can to keep you out of their hands. I'm guessing you don't like them."

Lewis said he was looking for a purpose, saying he wanted to leave his mark on this world. It was interesting, she never met someone who had to look for a purpose, where she came from, everyone was given a purpose from hatching. She wondered if other species were lonely because they weren't given a purpose as soon as they entered the world, maybe that's what separated her people from others? "It's very interesting to hear that.. I'm sure you'll find a purpose, and maybe it won't be limited to this world alone. There's millions of planets out there that you might see one day." Cue told him, more as a suggestion than anything. Every time she takes she never seemed to insert her opinion, as if she was cautious with every word she spoke.
They started going through the metal places she saw before, and it made Cue feel pretty overwhelmed. It looked like her city center except larger, not as well planned, and extremely dirty. The alien guessed since everyone did what they want here that no one was assigned to cleaning the cities, that must be difficult for the people living there.

Lights kept flashing and at this point the alien's head started to ache, instead she turned and looked at Lewis. She tried to block everything out, it helped when he started talking again. "Owners? Do you mean my people?" She wondered, fiddling with one of the holes in the jump suit she was wearing. It looked exactly what you'd think a space prison suit would look like. It was all grey, tightly fitted, and a few lines going from her neck to her arms. From the ship crash she had collected a few scraped and holes in her suit.
"I'm flattered you think I'm special enough that they'd come and find me, but they just replace me with another, that's how it works. I don't believe we have the technology to travel in space at this point. It's more likely to run into space pirates." The alien explained, seeking very nonchalant about her answer. "The Princess might be upset that she has to wait another 27 years for a new supplies." Cue thought aloud, placing her hands on her lap gently.
"Lewis, can I be blunt with you?" She started the sentence off slowly, knowing that speaking like this normally would get her in trouble.

Cue's words were comforting to Lewis. Even though they were strangers, her message resonated with him. He knew that she was right. It was a big world in a big universe. He would find his purpose someday.

Misunderstandings were bound to happen when talking to someone from another planet, even if you were speaking the same language. Lewis thought she had been a slave, forced to work against her will. But Cue didn't seem bitter against her people. He wondered, then, why she had escaped. Clearly there was a lot more he needed to learn about her people.

Cue asked if she could speak her mind. Lewis nodded. "I'd prefer that. You can always speak your mind around me."

He gave her permission to say what was on her mind, he even said that she could always speak her mind and that was okay. That was a first, she was rarely given permission to speak, which isn't really a bad thing, but it was a different feeling to have someone say she could talk whenever. "You see, when I was first taken I was upset, my entire life was changing and whatever bracelet they put on me stopped me from using my abilities." Cue explained, rubbing her wrist where it once was. "However, when I got to see the other species, let alone the amazing stars, I think it was a blessing in disguise. Sure the purpose I was hatched for doesn't matter anymore, but at the same time I get to see things I've never seen before!" The alien finished happily, her eyes sparkling while looking at Lewis. It was her decision to land on this planet alone, she could have stayed with the people that captured it, but she decided to make her own path, the first thing she's ever done on her own.
"It's kind of scary, but now I'm in a weird ship with a human! An actual human! Isn't that wonderful?!" She started getting more excited while she talked, but then coughed and placed her hands on her lap again. Cue didn't want to annoy him once more.

"May I ask where we're going?"
