It's been a while. Sorry, there's been a lot of things that needed to be dealt with, but I should be more on hand now.
With that in mind, I thought I'd write up the history of the Academy of Nol
General Information
The Academy of Nol was established over one thousand years ago, by none other than Rorek and his closest followers. Having been established in an empty dimension, Rorek created a school to teach future magic students, not only in the ways of the arcane, but also in the ways of being heroes. However, he disappeared shortly after his battle with Malchior, and was unable to actively meet any of his newer students
From every planet in the universe, and every dimension in the multi-verse, students were selected for their potential, and educated from an age equivalent to a human six year old. Once selected, the students would be taught in the ways of magic, and given a specialised power when they turned ten. From that point on, they would be mercilessly trained and educated, any spare time they would have would be allowed only for chores and extra study, holidays being the exception.
Upon reaching seventeen years of age, the student would be given their role, and become a permanent staff member, with responsibilities more vital than their own lives.
The entire academy was based on the belief of ‘The Balance of Magic’, a metaphysical scale of all the major elements of magic in the multi-verse. It is believed that if this balance tips in anyway shape or form, the consequences would be disastrous.
Roles in the academy
Warriors:
these are the foot soldiers of the academy, and fulfil its core responsibilities. When they finish their main studies, they are assigned to Rank 1, as well as designated a planet to protect. They then proceed to patrol that world, regulating the balance and generally acting as a hero. As instructed by the academy, they are to eliminate any threat to the balance or the academy at whatever cost. Rank 1 warriors are expected to wear a dark grey hooded tunic and trousers, and leather body armour.
The warrior can achieve Rank 2 by continuing their studies and increasing their powers. Upon achieving this level, they continue to carry out their tasks from Rank 1, but are no longer restricted to wear academy uniform.
A warrior then has the option of becoming Rank 3, an independent agent who can fulfil their own tasks, so long as they act within the best interests of the academy. In this event, another rank 1 or 2 warrior will be assigned to the world, just to make sure that the tasks that need to be carried out are completed.
Assassin:
contrary to popular belief, the assassins aren’t the designated hit men of the academy (even though they can fill this need if required). Instead, the assassins are designated to a warrior, and instructed to eliminate them if they ever go rogue. Depending on the skill of the warrior, there are usually as little as five and as much as fifteen assassins assigned to any one warrior.
Runic Knight:
members of the academy that lack the magical potential of the assassins and warriors. Instead, their bodies are covered in runes, which give them incredeble physical strength. They also have the ability to activate their armour, a metallic shell that makes them virtually indestructible.
They are usually employed to guard and protect important people and locations.
Arcane Lords:
the teachers of the academy are powerful sorccerers. Capable of the greatest arcane acts, they are a force to be reckoned with. They also play a key role in the Closed Ceremony, but that will be explained later.
Ten High Arcane Lords run the academy, all of them being the most powerful mages in academy history. No one has seen them, a rumour circulating the halls that they have too much power to safely set foot on a mortal plane.
Rituals and Traditions
Rorek's Birthday
To celebrate the founder's dates of birth, the academy students are given a day off, with a feast, a speech and a moment of silence during the middle of the day.
The Closed Ceremony
Thought to be the most drastic act of the academy, if it is thought that the planet is acting against the academy itself (usually after two to three warriors have been brutally murdered in a short amount of time) the arcane lords see that the planet is no longer worthy to use magic. They take to the planet, and through an hour long ritual, destroy it, making sure no living organism can dwell there any more.
Automaton Ritual
Given as an option to the students at a young age, it is possible to take part in a ritual that creates a second soul, one that lacks emotion, and able to make any decission the student wouldn't be able to make on their own. The Students are recomended to take this ritual if they feel they cannot handle the emotional grief that comes with their roles as guardians.
