Virgil Ovid Hawkins / Static

Virgil Hawkins / Static Static_Shock_(TV_Series)

===IDENTITY===

Full Name: Virgil Ovid Hawkins
Codename: Static
Nickname(s): V, Static Shock
Alias(es): Static, Static Shock
Age: Nineteen
Birth date: March the seventeeth
Classification: Metahuman
Affiliation: Hero

===PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION===

Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Dark brown
Height: 5”11
Weight: 153 lbs.
Other: He’s always been a bit scrawny, but due to crime fighting he’s developed a bit of muscle.

===POWERS===

Powers: Static’s powers allow him to control anything electromagnetic, as well as allowing him to manifest both electrical and magnetic energy.

His powers centre around electromagnetism, making him capable of generating and storing his own electromagnetic energy. He can equally control the current and voltage, as well as being able to store the power or let it loose.

He often uses his powers to magnetize objects, electrocute enemies, levitate objects (such as his Static Saucer, or even people), restraining or attaching people or objects to various surfaces by way of ‘static cling’ (think rubbing a balloon against your hair and then sticking it to a wall and you’ve got static cling), generating little shocks that emulate the power of a stun gun, sometimes with enough power to send enemies flying.

He can also generate multiple electromagnetic displays (he’s one for showing off now and again), creating electromagnetic cages or nets, blinding flashes, generating ball lightning (like a ball of electricity that packs a punch), producing electromagnetic pulses, and generating electromagnetic force fields to shield him from attacks.

Static can also drain sources of electricity (such as power lines and batteries) to ‘recharge’ his own energy supplies. Whenever Static over-exerts himself, he will experience a sudden sense of tiredness (common of most superheroes).

Static can also feel out sources of electromagnetic energy. He can use his powers to hear radio waves and tap into phone lines.

===PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE===

Likes:

• Comic books.
• Role playing games.
• Science Fiction – Of all of the above he has entirely too much knowledge.
• Music.
• Especially hip-hop music. But he’ll listen to most music.
• One liners – ‘I put a shock to your system!’ is his favourite, but he feels it’s unfortunately overused.
• Video games – He thinks of himself as ‘an extremely cool geek that by no means looks like one.’

Dislikes:
• Guns – Too much significance to both himself and his family.
• The Bang Babies that just won’t quit.
• Gangs (Never a good idea).
• To some extent, the ‘Big Bang’. Though he thinks his powers are awesome, he can’t help but think he’ll never live a ‘normal’ life.
• Being addressed by his full – and real - Name.
• The sheer amount of weight on his shoulders – Sometimes he just wants to be a normal nineteen year old.
• When random objects magnetize towards him – It’s seriously hard to explain to the innocent old woman next to you why you’re stuck to a lamp post or something equally random like that.

Strengths:
• Team work – Virgil knows when exactly he needs to work as a team, and though he’s more used to crime fighting solo, he can equally work as a team. He views it as a lab partnership, just a little bit more life threatening.

• Natural leader – Virgil has a strong sense of leadership, and whether or not that’s because he knows how to fight solo and so think ahead, or is just naturally good is a matter of opinion.

• Smart – Virgil was on the Honor Roll all throughout High School, even when he was running around as Static at night time. He got good grades and test scores, and his smarts have never left him.

• Creative Inventor – Combine his smarts with creativity and a love of all things invention-centred and viola, you’ve got a creative inventor.

• Charming - Virgil’s always been a quick talker, but even behind his mask, he knows when to turn the charm on. Or maybe that’s just his personality.

• Quick Thinking/Quick Talker – Virgil has had to think himself out of a lot of tricky situations in his life time. As stated before, he is smart, and this helps him think on his feet. It’s helpful when being a superhero. And his quick talking has helped him chat his way out of situations – or buy him valuable time.

• Upper Hand in Cities – There’s so much metal stuff he can electrify or magnetize, it hardly seems fair on the opposition. Not to mention power lines and grids and all that jazz, to ‘recharge his batteries’. That means it’s easier for him to draw power boosts as well as manipulate the landscaping to his advantage.

Weaknesses:
• Temper – Virgil is, after all, human. Well, a metahuman, but still human. He does have flaws. He has a hell of a temper, and should something spark him off (haha, pun intended), be ready for a roller coaster of Virgil’s temper, which means he won’t always think straight when he’s angry. Normally, though, unless something sparks him off, Virgil likes to think he’s a pretty chilled out guy. Normally.

• Ego – Sigh, every hero’s downfall. You save a certain amount of people a certain amount of times, and your ego is bound to shoot through the roof. Yes, Virgil has an ego. Is it deserved? He definitely thinks so. He kept on the Honor Roll while fighting crime in his spare time? He’d say that deserves an ego – though sometimes it gets in the way of him seeing clearly.

• Cocky – Yes, he’s a cocky hero. That’s all in his nature. He’s always been naturally cocky, which made him a few enemies as well as friends, even just in school. But, sometimes he will occasionally take on a situation that’s perhaps just a bit too much for him to handle, though normally he can figure a way out of it.

• Flirt/A Pretty Face – Virgil’s a flirt. A terrible flirt, but a flirt all the same. Corny jokes and all that jazz, but transfer this into a situation where the bad guy in question is actually a woman? Well, he doesn’t always take every possible chance to win. Not to mention he’ll try to flirt. Operative word being try. That is, until they make it quite clear they want to kill him.

• He’s human. Metahuman, but human. This means that most things will still hurt him. Shoot him, and he’ll die. Hit him over the head, he’ll be knocked out. Things like tear gas will still effect him accordingly.

• If he over exerts himself, which does happen, he’ll need to recharge, and fast. Or else he’s in trouble. He can’t power the Static Saucer without his powers, and he’s not exactly a trained hand-to-hand fighter.

• Things that can stop electricity normally can stop his powers. Rubber and other non-conductive materials leave him a bit stumped as to how to get around these obstacles, though he might find a way.

• You can drain his powers the way you may drain a battery or any other power source, e.g. using all the power.

Skills:
• His super powers – Of course.
• This means he can jump start machinery.
• Short circuit computers and computerized objects – great when fighting robots.
• Occasionally, he can use his powers for seemingly unrelated tasks – He once opened a jammed door by zapping the doorknob. It did the trick.
• Leads us on nicely to everyone’s favourite past time – breaking and entering! He can short circuit computerized locks, or occasionally zap the door open.
• He has a way of detaining the bad guys – using ‘static cling’ to store them on the ceiling he’d count as a skill.

Equipment:

Static Saucer – A small piece of mylar that folds out to become a disk. Static uses this as his primary means of transportation – due to the nature of his powers, he can power this and thus fly as long as he is standing on it.

Habits/Quirks:
• He runs his hands through his hair when stressed.
• Always makes a snarky comment to his sister whenever she is near.
• Equally insulting her cooking – it’s like an impulse.
• He has a love for comic books, sci-fi, all that jazz – So if someone makes a reference, he’ll launch in with all the knowledge he possesses. He’s been trying to work on that.
• Depending on his level of tiredness, clothes and sheets tend to stick to him – static cling works both ways and this qualifies as a habit – he’s attractive to sheets and clothes.
• Sometimes he talks to himself in the middle of a fight – Someone needs to narrate, right?

Personality:

Unfortunately, Virgil’s personality occasionally tends to intertwine with his weaknesses – In fact, it does. Sometimes he lets his personality conflict with his ‘superhero’ persona. But, his weaknesses are only the tip of the iceberg with Virgil.

• Family-Oriented – While he might not have a family of his own (yet), he is still very much family oriented in regards to his father, sister, and even his mother. He still visits her grave regularly, generally tying these visits into regular trips back to Dakota City to visit his father and sister. However, this aspect stretches to his teammates as well – he regards them as family.

• Good Natured – While he might have a bit of a temper, he’s generally quite a good natured guy. People tend to get along well with him because of this factor – Well, as long as they’re not trying to kill him.

• Prankster – The common consensus is that guys never really grow up. And Virgil is only nineteen, after all. He will prank people. And he finds it funny – He’s inventive, as mentioned before, so watch it.

• Good Conscience – He’s a good guy, Virgil. He’s always trying to balance the right thing to do in amongst all his crime fighting.

• Flirt – Yes, this has been mentioned before. But it’s quite a prominent part of his personality, at least throughout his teenage years.
===PERSONAL BACKGROUND===

Family:
Robert Hawkins – Father: Robert is Virgil’s father, a social worker who runs the Freeman Community Center back in Dakota City. He dislikes gangs and is skeptical of most Bang Babies, and was originally pretty convinced that the superhero ‘Static’ would turn bad, unaware it was his own son. Eventually, his opinion changed, and then he found out that Virgil was actually Static. He keeps Virgil’s identity secret.

Jean Hawkins – Mother (deceased): Jean was Virgil’s mother, who was killed by a gunshot while on duty – She was a paramedic. Her death still effects everyone in the family, but no one more so than Virgil.

Sharon Hawkins – Sister: Sharon is Virgil’s older sister by about four years. She’s tried to take over cooking, cleaning, etc, but is about to move out and so Virgil doesn’t have to suffer her cooking – er, not that it isn’t lovely (and he’s moved to Jump City to join the Titans, so he has to suffer someone else’s terrible cooking). She’s been dating the Bang Baby known as Rubber Band Man (real name Adam Evans) for a long time now, and though she and Virgil argue pretty consistently, they do love each other very much. She is not aware of Virgil’s superhero identity, though she’s had her suspicions for awhile now. But, she can’t prove them, so stays the ‘bossy older sister’. She volunteers at a hospital and counsels young people at the Freeman Community Center, back in Dakota City.

Place of Origin: Dakota City

Current City: Jump City

History:
Virgil was originally just a normal high school student. And, like most high school students, he was being bullied. Eventually, someone stuck up for him – But, he just so happened to be a gang member. This gang member tried to recruit Virgil – But Virgil was hesitant, as his mother was killed by a stray gunshot. A gunshot from a gang member.

He eventually gave in, following this gang member towards where there was going to be a huge gang fight. Virgil’s bully would be there too. But Virgil never ended up taking part – he threw the gun he’d been given in the water and tried to leave. But the police interrupted this showdown, and during the fight the police let off some ‘seemingly harmless tear gas’ in the vicinity of the gang fight, but it turned out to contain a mutagen and exposed everyone in the vicinity to the mutagen (This event later came to be called the ‘Big Bang’).

But this included Virgil.

The next day, he began to experience strange symptoms, and realized very quickly he’d gained superpowers. He then decided to use them for good, and became a superhero, dealing, a lot of the time, with other ‘Bang Babies’ – and the rest was history.

He’s in Jump City now, after being contacted by the Teen Titans. He’s moving up in the superhero world.

Sample RP
Gliding through the night air, over Dakota, was exhilarating. The crackle of electricity filled the air, as Static propelled himself along. It wasn’t a Bang Baby attack, but that wasn’t too odd. There were a lot of bad people out there, and Dakota only had Gear and Static to defend it.

That sent a small stab of alarm through Virgil. How would Dakota survive without them?

Arriving on the scene of the robbery, Virgil sighed. What Virgil saw was Harley Quinn laughing madly, as some of her goons made off with money. Her eyes darted up to the sky, and her painted face grinned maniacally.

“Aww, it’s Static!” she called, pointed a gloved hand at the sky. “You’ve come out ta play!”

Her accent, high-pitched, grated on his ears.

“More like pummel,” he called back, “Again.” Balancing expertly on his disc, he sent an arc of electricity towards Harley. She somersaulted out of the way.

Damn circus reject, he thought, aiming again. Something hard hit him in the back of the head, and he nearly fell off his disk. Turning his head slightly, he saw what had hit him; a vine.

Damn. She’d brought Poison Ivy along, as well.

Where was Batman when you needed him?

Deal with Harley first, he decided. She had a gun.

Which was cocked and primed on Virgil. He wasn’t a fan of guns, but did that mean he could dodge a speeding bullet?

OT: Has totally called this. Smile

It's actually just "Static" btw. But seeing as it's your character you can call him whatever you want.

Under the powers I know he's a canon, but could you list things that stop/deflect/ or negate his powers as well as hurt him. Basically need more ACTUAL physical weaknesses although you did good with the mental ones. Such as him still being human knock out gas and brute force still does the trick. Does rubber and energy draining devices foil his powers. Does he occasionally need to recharge is stuff that should be mentioned for weaknesses.

That is a good point - I've added in the weaknesses. Hopefully that's what you're looking for, and even those few weaknesses add a load to his character. Hopefully that's better. Thanks Smile
