Rules "MUST READ"
Spoiler:
0. You don't have to catch any pokemon or collect gym badges if you don't want to. The main goal is just to have fun while writing storyline or adventures for your characters, which from experience is much easier when you travel with another roleplayer. So try to group up with one or two others if possible.
1. This thread is not supposed to end quickly at all, so please make your post quality and take your time designing your travels and/or adventures.
2. Only catch Pokemon native to the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, or Sinnoh region. Please no 5th generations or specifically B&W. Check Pokedex link to make sure they're natives of either region if you're not sure or haven't played the games.
3. You can only start off with one Pokemon, but it can be any Pokemon you like from 1st to 4th gen. Although, it must be in it's Pre-evolutionary/baby form.
4. Pokemon's entire movesets are already known from the moment you catch them, meaning you're not limited to four moves. (You can limit them however if you want and train them to learn more, it's your choice.) Also, the moves you use must be in the pokemon's moveset or at least learnable, however, I'll let basic stuff like tackle and watergun slide. Check Bulbapedia or online if you're not sure if the pokemon knows the move.
5. Make sure when you catch a Pokemon it's in the right situation. As in don't catch water pokemon in grassy fields.
6. As I stress quality roleplaying here, please don't randomly evolve your pokemon within the first day or posts of your journey. Training them to evolve should take sometime, although it's ok if you really want or need to.
7. You can only carry six Pokemon with you at one time. The rest will be transported to storage or your home via satellite network for safe keeping. Kind of like Star Trek beaming technology or transporters.
8. You don't have to start out your journey in Pallet Town, you can originate from any part of the region.
9. The goal in this RPG is to travel to each town while having adventures and collecting gym badges/pokemon as you go along. Since not everyone your character comes across will be someone from the forum, it's safe to say that the thread will consist of many NPC's. You can also travel with NPC's, but not Gym Leaders.
10. You can see legendary Pokemon and maybe battle them if it's part of your storyline, but don't catch them.
11. Viridian City Gym is LOCKED! until you've collected all other badges or I post otherwise. The same goes for Pokemon League and the Elite Four.
12. Gym Leaders will be played by Josh and myself. The number of pokemon used will be one versus one. However, doubles competition can occur if two roleplayers want to battle together.
(If there are any other questions that the above did not answer, do not be afraid to PM either of us. Ps. This is based more off the TV show than videogames.)

What Are Pokémon?
"In this world live creatures called Pokémon; creatures that have evolved to have amazing abilities. Many of them based off nature itself and the habitats they are from. Humans and Pokémon have lived, worked, and played together in harmony for ages. Nevertheless, there are still numerous mysteries surrounding them. In order to find out more about these creatures scientists such as Professor Oak of Pallet Town have dedicated their entire lives to the research of these wonderful creatures. However, a Professor's duties call for them to spend their time studying, which prevents them from travelling the world to uncover these mysteries...That's where Trainers come in.
A Pokémon Trainer's task is to travel the land and capture as many Pokémon as possible using devices called pokeballs. Pokeballs are available to be sold at any regular Mart and come in varying colors, sizes, and degrees of difficulty. The next important task for a Trainer is to train their Pokemon to evolve to their greatest potentials, while discovering their hidden mysteries, and forming unbreakable bonds with them as well. A test is in place for every trainer known as Pokémon Gym's. Where one can challenge a Gym Leader to earn a singular badge. A Gym can be located in almost every city in the region and once eight badges are acquired, a Trainer can earn a spot in the prestigious Pokémon League. A place where the best Trainers put their hard work and training to the test by battling their Pokemon against each other to earn the rank of Master among their peers.
In addition to those who want to train, study, and battle pokemon for sport. Their are also those who wish to use them to take over the world and push their villainous agendas. Such people are those associated with the rogue organization known as Team Rocket. Team Rocket can be summed up as a Mafia that steals any rare gem or powerful pokemon they can find to increase their ranks. Their intended goal is to use these creatures to start a war like that of which the world has never seen. In the end Team Rocket coming out on top as the sole form of Government.
The youth of this world are usually given a choice if they want to continue schooling or go off to become a Pokemon Trainer. Anywhere from age 10 to 20, you are allowed to take the second half of the year to go on your own adventure and beocome a Pokemon Trainer. Most use this time to make a run at getting into the Pokemon League, which takes place towards the end of summer. However, some do decide at the end of it all that being a Trainer isn't for them and go back to schooling to become a human doctor, a mechanic, soccer player, etc. Now, it's your turn. You have taken the oppourtunity to become a Pokemon Trainer and are allowed a choice of a starter Pokemon of your choosing and a Pokedex, which is like a digital library or A.I. to catalog your adventures. The only question left, is what path will you take? Will you capture them all? Will you defeat the entire Pokemon League and Become a Master, will you thwart or even join the Evil Team Rocket in their quest for world domination. The choice is yours..."

1:45 pm was the time shown on Josh's Voltorb clock, but that time wasn't going to be on there for long as Josh (still sleeping) picked it up and threw it all the wall shouting "Go Pokeball". As the clock hit the wall and it shattered, which caused Josh to jump out of bed and land face first on the floor. "What the hell?!".
After sitting on the floor and rubbing his head Josh heads into the bathroom and has a quick shower before brushing his teeth, getting his hair ready and finally getting dressed, but before he put his jacket on he takes a quick glance at his watch. 2:10. "Crap". Josh had realised that he was missing what he has been looking forward to for a few weeks.
He'd then bound down the stairs, taking them 3 at time, being careful not to fall down. He'd flick the TV on to see he'd missed most of it but still there was time left as he could hear the announcer. "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THIS IS IT, THE BATTLE TO DETERMINE THE GRAND CHAMPION OF THE KANTO REGION HAS COME DOWN TO THIS. THE BATTLE BETWEEN CURRENT CHAMPION LANCE AND THE ELITE FOUR'S BRUNO HAS COME DOWN TO THIS, ONE POKEMON LEFT ON EACH TEAM".
Lance stands there with his Dragonite by his side as Bruno sends out his Onix, whixh was about twice the size as regualr Onix. Dragonite then heads out onto the field and Bruno wastes no time and orders an Iron Tail attack but Dragonite flies under the tail and heads straight up to Onix's head with his claws glowing white looking to land a powerful Dragon Claw but Bruno must have planned for this as Onix lets out a Dragonbreath without him having to say anything which sends Dragonite crashing to the ground. Onix then uses its tail to pick Dragonite up and uses Bind trapping him, it looks like Bruno is going to win. As the camera pans over to Lance he doesn't even seem to be bothered, he then orders a Flamethrower, which Dragonite follows and manages to launch a powerful Flamethrower which hits Onix directly in the face. Though normally a Flamethrower wouldn't affect an Onix much due to the sheer power Lance's Dragonite has it causes Onix to back off and releases Dragonite from the bind. Lance then orders Dragonite to end the battle now. Dragonite then steps back and charges up an orange ball in it's mouth before letting letting the Hyper Beam out. Onix tries to counter with a Dragonbreath but it doesn't work as the Hyper Beam rips through the flames and hits Onix directly in the face causing the Rock Snake Pokemon to drop to the floor knocked out.
As Lance is declared the winner the crowd goes nuts and both trainers return their Pokemon before Lance says a few words, which Josh doesn't really catch, he's too fired up and ready to start his journey so he throws his jacket on and heads out of his house and runs towards Oak's lab as fast as he can.

It was late 2 AM to be exact, but JaK couldn't sleep and who could afterall. I mean tomorrow was THE DAY that his life truly began. JaK was a thin boy, 14 years of age with black hair and nicely formed eyebrows. His stature was 5'8 almost 5'9 and his eyes were also all black with a glimmer of aspiration in the center of his Cornelias. His facial features were defined and his body tone wasn't anywhere near muscular, even for a boy his age. However, he did have a scrappy temper from time to time and was full of big ideas of what the future would hold. Not to mention was nimble on his feet and quick witted, when not acting exceptionally dim witted at times
He had packed his stuff, had his last meal with his mom, and laid out his clothes all nice and neat. Heck, he had even purchased some supplies with money he had been saving up for the occasion. Now all that was left was to stay awake until morning and be the first to see Professor Oak. From all the guest speaking appearences Oak had made at his school, the man seemed nice enough and well knowledgeable. Maybe he would know which pokemon would be a good starter choice. Although, his advice would be overall irrelevant because JaK had already decided on chosing Squirtle.
Water pokemon were his favorites afterall and probably stemmed from a long crush he had on the Cerulean City Gym Leaders, who would perform in aquariams with their pokemon in a play for admission. They were SO gorgeous, all of them. A few months ago he ahd gone to see one of their shows and got an autograph, best moment in his life so far..besides tomorrow.
"WAIT, come on bro you gotta focus! *Sigh* That's it, deep breaths in and out, you gotta stay awake."
Only 5 more hours to go he thought. JaK's idea was to be the first one to Oak's lab. That way he could get the very first pokemon and already have a head start. However, the youngster's eyes were getting heavier and heavier by the minute.
"Maybe, I'll just rest my eyes for a few *YAWN* moments..."
.....
It was day time now, and as JaK rolled over from his extended nap he would awaken. He then immediately looked at the clock and at first his face was filled with refreshed vigor, eager to get to the lab and be the first to----
"ACK!!! It's 2PM!!!!! I'm LATE, NO, NONONONO. This isn't happening, this isn't happening!"
The teen would then run about his room like a whirlwind. Rushing to get all his clothes on and things in order. As JaK made it to the doorway of his room, which he hoped not to see for at least a month or so. He woul trip, falling face first into the hall and then clambering down the stairs; finally landing in a heap all over the floor. His clothes still only half-way on and now all the items in his bag had spilt out once again.
"OOOoOOuch, man this is turning out to be one heck of a day."
After a few more minutes, JaK would finally get his stuff in order and his clothes fully on. With a little help from his mom of course and then with one last goodbye he darted from the building he used to call home and out into his new home. The world was now his playground and he wanted to own all it's vast wonders. But, that couldn't happen if he had missed his chance to start his adventure already.

Brianna stood impatiently outside her house, tapping her foot. This morning had been one of the most frustrating of her life. She had woken up at six, ready to go to the Professor's lab, and was nearly out the door when her dad had caught her and insisted she make him some coffee. Then he had wanted her to cook him breakfast, iron his clothes, help him clean the house and mow the lawn... The list went on and on.
And by the time she had gotten away from her ditzy father, it was two o'clock! It was ridiculous. She was leaving today. How on Earth did he expect to survive without her? Brianna was an average girl for her age, brown hair, blue eyes, nothing special. But she was strong-willed, and the last person she had expected to hinder her today was her dad! She knew he didn't want her to leave, knew he would be lonely, but today was her day. And nobody, not even her father, was going to slow her down.
Brianna's annoyed expression softened a little as he came stumbling out of the house, still rubbing sleep out of his eyes and holding his arms out for a hug. She warmly embraced him, patting him on the back. He was mumbling incoherently about how hopeless he would be while she was gone. The girl stopped his blubbering with a cheerful reply.
'You'll be fine, dad. You've got to learn to cook some time. I'll call you whenever I can.'
The soon-to-be trainer stepped back, a confident smile on her face.
'Now, I'm off to get my pokemon. Bye!'
Brianna didn't look back as her father waved goodbye, walking out into the unknown; a world she had never explored was open to her now. She was more excited than she had ever been in her life. As she neared the labs, she saw two boys, heading in the same direction. It seemed she wasn't the only one hopeful for a pokemon today.

After a quick jog through the all so familiar streets of Pallet Town Josh arrived at the gates to Professor Oak's lab
"Ok, phew, this is it". Josh then took a deep breath and headed up the hill towards the front door of the lab. He lifted his arm up, ready to knock on the double doors of the lab when before he got a chance to the door swung open and an old man in a long lab coat stood there
"Ah Josh, you've finally made it" "Um, yes Professor, but how did you know my name?". "Well you see ma boy I make it a duty to know who the trainers who are coming to me to start out". Josh just stood there gobsmacked, he knew the Professor was good, but to take the time to memorise all the trainers coming to him, he must have hundreds. Josh then saw the Professor walk through into another room and unsure whether or not he was meant to follow him Josh stayed in the same room.
I'll either edit this to make it longer, or continue after someone else posts

Simon hoisted himself up the last few rungs and looked down over the railing, the wind tussling his spiky hair. He was standing atop the Viridian City water tower, looking out over the gym training area. South of the city was Pallet town, not exactly en route to Lugia, but a good stepping stone. He hoped he would acquire his first Pokemon there. Hearing a shuffle behind him, Simon turned around. His father's Fearow was hunched over the railing, shoulders lowered and head drooped. "Aww, don't worry boy, Ill be home soon enough. And I'll be bringing you a lot of new friends." He said, stroking the Pokemon's back, from nape to tail. "Bye Dad! Wish me luck" He called down over the railing to his father 300 feet below. His father shouted something up to him, but the wind snatched it away and he was too distant to make sense of his lip movements. Pulling his pack tighter, He spread his arms, feeling his makeshift wings adjust to the air. Stepping over the railing, he leaped out into the open air.
Immediately, his wings took the strain and he swept out over the town, heading south. The 300 ft. jump wouldn't carry him all the way to Pallet town, but it should get him pretty darn close.
A few minutes passed flying and the wind was whipping in his ears, taking away any and all sounds coming from the world below him. He was used to the lack of hearing, as he had tested the Gliding Apparatus many times in his father's wind chamber. But something about being out in the open air always made it feel more frightening, and more exhilarating. Soon, he was flying right above the tree line. I suppose I should move over the road soon. he thought anxhiously. So far, he'd had 5 successful flights and only 1 crash, so the suit should have been able to hold up for the journey to Pallet town. His left wing clicked off. "...Oh." Without a seconds notice, he spun sharply left, tumbling counter clockwise into the treetops below. "ow, owowow, ohh, owow, gah! OWW ow, hah! ow." With a crash, Simon landed on the ground. The trees had softened his impact, but of course it still hurt. Getting up slowly, Simon began flexing his shoulders and doing a couple of test jumps, checking if his wings still functioned. I can see the road from here. I'll worry about my wing when I get to the Lab. Pulling himself together, Simon walked towards the road with a slight limp. From the edge of the road, he saw the white buildings of Pallet Town, a large windmill loomed over the town. Oak's Lab. He thought. And with that, he was off.
OOC: If anyone knows how to get the accented 'e' for Pok'e'mon, I'd love to be able to write that in.

OT: I usually just C & P it Canace. Also I'd just like to mention this isn't a continuation of show it's a reboot, thus Ash doesn't exist and Brock and Misty are Gym Leaders.
As JaK reached Professor Oak's hillside lab a little after Josh, he would see the boy go inside and thought to hismelf.
(Mind) "Great, I'm super late and another person's beaten me in there for sure. So I'm later than late."
It would be at that time JaK noticed a rather fetching young girl come around the bend from behind him. He couldn't remember if he had seen her before, but if not he was definitely seeing her now. He then thought pleasantries would have to wait, because he was already late and definitely wanted to be the next one to snag a pokemon after this guy. Yet, he couldn't resist just saying hi. I mean there's no harm in that...Right?
"Hey girl, are you going to see Professor Oak to?"
JaK would approach Brianna as he spoke, half hoping the answer was no and yes. No, obviosuly because that would make her competiton for the remaining starter pokemon and yes, because he wanted to be able to get to know her better.

Brianna sighed. She didn't mind talking to the boy in front of her, but she really wanted her pokemon and someone was already in the lab. Nevertheless, she smiled at JaK, replying in turn.
'Yeah, I am. Let's go meet him.'
She started up the hill, waiting for JaK to follow. Maybe it wasn't a bad thing to meet him. Brianna didn't know much about training pokemon. Maybe this guy would.

As JaK eagerly awaited her reply, he was kind of let down at the quickness of her reply, but he could also see she too was in a rush.
"Oh ya right, you're late to then. Well anyway I'm JaK nice to meet you. Guessin I'm not the only one who had a rough start this morning."
As they reached the door of the lab, JaK would knock and an aid wearing a white lab coat and dorky glasses came to open it instead of the Professor hismelf.
"The Professor is currently busy gathering up a few things, but you both can wait in the lobby with the other boy who just arrived."
OT: One more thing, I changed rule #4 completely so please re-read that rule and you can now be as many characters as you like. Mainly because I don't think any of you will go overboard with it.

Brianna laughed a little at JaK's comment. 'Yeah, you could say that.' Suddenly her father's antics seemed a lot funnier.
As the aid spoke to them and walked away, the girl looked around the room they were in. She felt like she was in a hospital waiting room; the atmosphere was so sterile you could taste it. She supposed that's what laboratories were like.
'I'm Brianna, by the way. Sorry for being so rude, but I was pretty anxious to get here,' Brianna said sheepishly.

"Ah it's cool, I'm only late because I was so anxious to get here I tryed staying up all night and well you cans ee where that got me."
As JaK said this he would smile and frown at the same time, it was a very hard thing to do really. But, it did really express the bitter sweet taste in his mouth. Had he woke up on time, he would already be on his way to Viridian by now. Yet, if he had done so he also wouldn't have met this cute girl. Once they entered the room that Josh was in, JaK would wave to the trainer.
"Hey, Hey! Glad to see we have another member in our late party. Name's JaK and this is Brianna."

''Ah..there you are. Hello there.''
Conrad raised his head and spotted Growlithe sleeping on his torso. He let his head rest onthe pillow again, before looking at the alarm clock. They'd almost be in Pallet Town by now. While Growlithe wasn't exactly little, but Conrad got used to those 41 pounds of furry cuddliness on his chest. Growlithe would never leave his side. The pokémon raised his head a little, stirred, and looked at Conrad with one eye before closing it again. Conrad petted his childhood friend.
''We're almost there, wake up buddy.''
Growlithe growled as slowly, Conrad scuffled the pokemon, placing him on the bed. He stood up and stretched out, looking out a small circular window.
''Pallet town, prepare to leave the S.S Winno!''
Conrad did as he was told. While both Conrad Growlithe still weren't completely awake, he packed his bag, put on his coat, and walked out on the pier. He thanked the man for his kindness, and entered the town itself. It was a small, peacefull town. Some trainers would get their starter here. Although he'd also want one, he already had a trustworthy companion. He'd need other, and would rather grant another new trainer that pokémon.
''Nice town eh buddy?''
''Growlithe!''
''That's what I thought.''
Conrad looked around, seeing it was about 2PM, to see if there was some life already. He spotted Professor Oak's lab, and thought it might be a good thing to pass by. Maybe the doc had some advise for his travels. Conrad entered the lab, only to see the professor was busy.
''I guess that's what you get when you want to meet a busy man and do not make an appointment....''
However, Growlithe had absent-mindedly paced on, and entered the room where some other trainers were. Conrad followed, slightly cursing under his breath that his Growlithe was just like him, yet a bit too impulsive at times. Though he meant no harm, it wasn't really nice to bust in everywhere. Growlithe seemed to go to the young female trainer, probably to see if he could get any attention from her. All Conrad could do was apologise for his companion's cuddliness.
''I'm so sorry I busted in, my Growlithe is a bit too happy-go-lucky at times. Come here buddy!''

OOC: I love how Spellcheck flips out when we try to write these.
IC: Simon drew closer to the windmill, watching the street for people. He knew he looked ridiculous in his Lugia getup, and he would feel more comfortable with a Pokèmon at his side while being in public. Up ahead, a speck of green on the dirt road appeared. Simon couldn't see much because of the glare, but he was interested in what it could be. Beginning to jog towards the green, Simon heard vibratory flapping from up ahead. Running up, he found it was a Pokèmon. A young Scyther, lying on the road in a heap. One wing bent at a sharp angle into the body, one scythe split and the green body marred by dirt and bruises. The flapping sound was coming from its wing as it attempted to fly, to regain itself and leave the road on which it had been stranded. How could this happen? Simon thought. Who would do this to a Pokemon? Simon approached the injured Pokèmon slowly, taking care not to frighten it and send flying (or force it to try). I need to get him to a Pokèmon center, whatever is closest. Simon pulled lightning-fast at the last moment with a scythe to strike away the projectile, but the red beam enveloped it and it was pulled into the Pokèball. 2 pings, and then the ball flew back at Simon as the Pokèmon inside broke loose. "Oh come on. I'm trying to help you!" He shouted to the Scyther which looked up at him with intrigue. The Scyther cooed and bowed its head to him. Once more, Simon tossed the Pokèball lightly out and waited to hear the successive pings that meant a successful capture. ping ping ping The ball lay still on the ground and Simon ran forward and snatched it up, miniaturizing it and running into the town.
Brianna smiled and waved at Josh, but before she could say anything a Growlithe bounded up to her. She giggled as it jumped up, scratching its head. As its trainer walked in, the girl smiled at him and shook her head.
'Oh, that's okay. He's cute!'
Brianna gave him one last pat on the head before he went running back to his trainer. She wanted to catch a Growlithe one day.

''Yeah, you should see him when he wants you to prepare his food.''
Growlithe's tail wagged a little at the mention of the word food. While Conrad held the door open for his pokémon to walk out, he had a good look at the three trainers and ProfessorOak, but they all looked trustworthy. And wow, did Oak look a lot like his pictures, he surely had no trouble being himself. Conrad smiled a little. He was gonna sit in the waiting room, maybe talk to them later. People had once adressed him as they also seemed to think his Growlithe was cute. Some even kept coming back. He never figured out if it was the soft fur, the cuteness, the element, or this particular pokémons nature. Or any combination of it.
''Again, my apologies.''
Growlithe did not seem to want to leave however. Just to tease Conrad, he stood just where the door would move upon closing, looking up to his trainer. Conrad had no option but to keep it open. He sighed, and looked up at the three again, with a bit of a questioning face.
''I promise I won't say a thing, but it seems my Growlithe just hit an adventurous vein. He won't demolish anything, I assure you. Contrary to his nature, he's fairly well-mannered...Might he look around a little?''
He had just finished, making Growlithe bark in happy confirmation. The pokémon turned a 180 degrees before padding around the room scouting it, looking at all the tables, aides, unused lab coats, and walking up to each trainer, sniffing around a little. He did not even wait for a reply, the cheeky little bugger.
Conrad sat down keeping an eye on his companion. It could not be helped, he knew dragging his companion off would be a waste of time and effort. As long as he would not touch anything, he hoped it would be fine. Would anyone find it disturbing however, he'd have to order his Growlithe...or even use the pokéball but that'd make for a burned demeanor for sure.
