To Kill the Time (Celestial Being)

After only a month or two in Jump City, Kyte had already manage to establish a connection to an underground group of humans to relay his information and get started with his roots in the city.

Using the news, social media, and other means of gathering intel, Kyte had learned that there had been some bloody killings over the past few weeks in Jump City. Kyte was no fool and knew this had to be related to some syndicate. The events detailed soldier-like individuals who would simply walk out into the streets in bulky armor and blood-covered weapons, and, upon capture, would spontaneously detonate and kill more people. Kyte grinned. This ought to be interesting.

All of the deaths were related to mob members in the high echelons of their respective associated countries, though there didn't seem to be any pattern favoring any particular mob at the moment. There were no whispers of where they may strike next, but that was fine. Kyte simply had to find a high-ranked mob boss and keep an ear out.

Kyte waited for a few weeks at a cafe in front of Don Barinov's favorite establishment, when suddenly he noticed some flashes in the upper windows. Impressive; someone had managed to sneak in without even Kyte noticing. That was to be commended.

Kyte paid his bill, walking into the lobby of the hotel, and waited for whoever would come out in his sealed form, waiting with a kind grin. If he was wrong, he could simply go back and start again...but he did hope he would find these men soon.

The three soldiers had just wrapped up their mission. They managed to catch him unaware dragging him to the bathtub and slitting his throat over it letting water keep the blood washing away. As they were leaving one bumped into a glass ornament by the window that flashed a few times.

The three had noticed and activated their cloaking devices. The elevator opened and a business man walked out. The three assassin's followed mere shimmers in the air as they made their way to the exit of the building. It was easy to over look them as a trick of the eye. They made their way out and into an alley way next to the building looking around above and in both directions to make sure they didn't get spotted.

Kyte waited...and waited...and waited...and waited. He sighed.

Better luck next time, I suppose. If I want the best of the best, I suppose I'm going to have to be patient.

Kyte followed the businessman out of the lobby, but stopped on the sidewalk, checking his phone. He ventured that there could have been a few delays for the men. Perhaps they were exiting from the roof. Infiltrating would require-

Being invisible...

Kyte looked around, but corrected himself, stopping.

Nonsense. Even if they were removed from sight, how could I find them?

Kyte's eyes wandered back to the businessman. Shrugging, he had no better leads to follow. Perhaps the man had heard something. He began following him.

Without anyone pursuing them the assassin's managed an easy escape. Maybe Kyte would do better at finding them next time. Regardless of what he did the man had no idea of anything about the matter.

♠ TWO WEEKS LATER ♠

Kyte stood outside of another establishment, smoking a cigarette to look more normal. The killers had actually been at the establishment Kyte had picked last time, and dropped out right under his nose. He chose a mafia member who had easier time gaps to kill him in; this being while he managed a private restaurant and counted the cash drawer.

Checking the time, Kyte saw that this time was now.

He dropped the cigarette, wandering into the dark alleyway. He had taken out the lights earlier so it was pitch black, and waited in the dark alleyway behind the place. The man, Oswalt Barry, was actually a head of the Irish mafia, but Kyte knew that the killings didn't have any particular pattern. Oz, as he liked to be called, had upped his security, but Kyte knew that probably wouldn't deter the assassins. Installing a hidden camera which he could watch remotely was a bonus, too.

The back door burst open as Oz went flying out of it he had gashes across his chest and arms from knives obviously. He stood out though, this wasn't an assassination, this was a message that no one was untouchable. The door started to swing closed before it was kicked across the alley and stuck in a dumpster like a shuriken. There had been a shimmer that was easily seen at that speed. A foot had done it, it was probably a size 15 boot on one of the beefiest legs Kyte would have seen in hundreds of years.

The assassin the leg belonged to was actually an 18 year old woman. She'd failed a mission in the past and had her throat torn out as punishment though. She was small and slender but in the armor there was no way to tell what she was let alone who. She walked over and the man would suddenly get lifted a clear hand print around his throat. There was a ping suddenly and blood ran down from the top of his head and down an invisible line for a second. Suddenly he was jerked up into the air hanging from a steel cable on the end of a grappling spike.

The assassin saw Kyte and pulled her pistol still invisible but now Kyte knew what to look for she stood out like heat waves in summer. The assassin watched pistol trained on him. Depending on what he did decided what she'd do after all the guild wasn't just a gang of murderers, and this was to send a message. The question was is he one of the body guards.

As Oz flew out from the establishment, Kyte pocketed his cell phone, snapping it shut to leave the alley and come out around the corner, seeing the door get kicked off of its hinges and embedding itself into a dumpster.

Interesting. So I was right; they are cloaked by some means.

Kyte watched with curiosity as Oz was strung up, a message to everybody. Kyte didn't know exactly what it was implying, but it was sure to attract attention. He saw the figure point something at him. Due to it only being a slight blur from visible light, he couldn't tell the make and model, but he assumed it was a pistol. He raised an arm defensively, but she didn't fire.

It's alright. I'm not your enemy. In fact I'm interested in becoming your ally. I need your skills for a party I'm planning to make some new friends in town, and I want the games at the party to be fun.

Kyte grinned.
