True Treasure (Open)

Victoria looked out the window of her tiny storefront, watching the people pass by back and forth on the sidewalks. So near, and yet none of them would cross over into her little world. It made her stomach growl, her grocery allowance cut by the recent slump, but it also brought about a little heartache. She had grown accustomed to watching people like this, from afar, during her imprisonment in that cursed mirror. The Grey Ghost, they called her, though she had no idea why until after she was inexplicably freed. How was this better than what she had left? At least, within the mirror's curse, she never hungered or thirsted; her age kept at a supple seventeen. Her eyes grew misty at the thought of all those years, all she saw, and what she missed along the way.

Her hand unconsciously crept to an antique gold locket around her neck. It was nothing as ornate as the trinkets she had surrounded herself with, but it meant the world to her...the only thing she had left of her world. An old locket, with an old photograph of the man she loved so long ago. Her other hand wiped a tear away, shaking her head. She couldn't remain in the past, or she would be dust like those she knew. The only direction was forward, and this was about the only real job skill she had. At least the mirror had provided something to her. With a sigh, she pushed herself off the stool behind the counter and began to clean the glass display cases.

Three Valleys Jewelers...well, jeweler. The staff consisted of only one...herself. It was lonely, but in a city full of superpowers and those who would exploit them, she dared not let anyone know of her metallic feats, or of her intimate connection with mirrors. She hummed an old tune, trying to pass the time and imagine herself somewhere else.

"Are you kidding me!?"

Janpu's agitated voice echoed in the small apartment the Dateto Twins called home. The sounds of beads clashing with a hard surface followed after her agitated cries. She had been getting ready for a night out in the clubs trying on her new outfit for another night of GoGo dancing but had ripped her pearl necklace in half as she attempted to place it around her neck. It wasn't the first time that the girl's strength had gone against her but Janpu had no time to spare for flustered moments. Usagi had been placing her earrings on as she approached her crouching sister. She leaned down as well and helped grab the jewelry and keep them contain in her cupped hands "We can survive without a necklace, Sis." Janpu glanced to the bathroom counter to a broken head piece then looked down defeated "I guess I'm going to have to go buy a new one," Usagi gave a a slight sigh as she stood to her feet and headed for the kitchen to place the beads into a bag. "I heard that there is this shop close by we can check out real fast. It looks kinda cute, something called 'Three Valleys Jewelers'. They seem legit too so we won't keep breaking our jewelry and we can find Dad a new ring or something to wear," Janpu pranced into the kitchen and dropped the rest of the necklace into the bag "Sounds like a plan, SISTAAA" She then hip bumped Usagi with her hopes climbing up. Jewelry had been essential to the club they worked at and though most of the women had used fake jewelry the twins preferred real ones. It was mainly only for the fact that they made the accessories/clothing into weapons and cheap items would usually break or explode under little pressure. The girls were not just GoGo dancer but they were security of the club. Usagi closed the bag and stuffed it into her purse and swung the purse over her shoulder while sticking her tongue out towards her sister "You're paying this time." Janpu's happy expression turned pained as she glared to the heavens and whispered "Darn you!" Usagi giggled and headed for the door, still in her gogo clothes, calling out

"Let's get-a-going!"

It wasn't long that the girl's had made their way to the Three Valleys Jewelers Store, in fact with the help of their GPS they had skated to the place as if they had been there many times before. Along the way they had gotten strange looks for their clothing and the blasting music they played along the way. Of course the girl's had loved reaction and from time to time would blow kisses as older men and wave at small children but mainly dancing and singing until they reached the doors of their destination. Before entering they had turned down the music and turned their skates back to heels. Then they both strided in only to come to a halt as they noticed a women by the door. The twins bowed in respect and gave the women gleeful smiles.

A faint sound of strange music accompanied the dainty bell that signaled the entrance of a customer. Victoria quickly checked her long skirt for dust before setting down her spray bottle and dust rag. She turned around...and simply froze for a moment at what she beheld. Before her were two adolescent girls, quite clearly identical twins. What really threw her for a loop was the seeming contradiction in their outfits and their manners. They bowed politely like gentlemen, yet dressed like--well, she dare not say what, particularly in the face of customers.

Her posture stiffened slightly, every old-fashioned bone in her body ready to say something, but instead it came out fluidly. "Welcome to Three Valleys Jewelers...my name is Victoria. How can I help you today?" She dropped curtsy with her introduction before turning around and retreating behind the display cases. They clearly were looking for something in particular...she just wished she had it, or had the means to make it. "We specialize in silver jewelry, precious and semiprecious stones...however, we take commissions as well of any sort." Why was she referring to herself in the plural? Did she feel threatened by these two scantily clad women, or was it that she was outnumbered? Perhaps a bit of both? She swallowed her anxieties...if they wanted something less than savory, they would have said so by now. They were just here to buy her wares.

Thank God...I positively refuse to eat more of--oh, what was that called again? She frowned slightly in frustration...she hated it when she forgot modern vernacular...

The girls noticed the tension from the saleswomen and couldn't help but give half smiles as she proceeded to introduce herself and her shop. They listened patiently as she came to a close watching her intently for any signs of detest. Their smiles smoothed out perfectly as she frowned in frustration. She looked very old fashion and they understood that in a lot of cases what they wore could be considered distasteful. The girls glanced at each other as they both felt as if they had suddenly intruded but they both swallowed their worries and gazed around the shop before they both spoke in unison "We are looking for a pearl necklace and male rings if you have any." Usagi dug through her purse and pulled out the broken necklace in a bag and closed the gap between the saleswomen as she handed her the plastic bag "If you can we need it to look similar to my own. We are dancers and we need to look as much alike as possible or we can loose money or our job." Janpu quickly turned around and pulled her head piece from her chest then jumped around to hand Victoria the broken item "Same with this one if you don't mind," both the twins gave apologetic smiles but also trying their hardest to fight back laughter. They wanted to crack a joke to Victoria but they felt that if they tried she would get offended. Their thought process then went back to their jewelry as they quickly pondered over the thought of custom made goods. They both spoke in unison again "Do you think you can split the beads in two and hallow the inside out? Maybe even have some silver and give it a pearly like glaze?"
Usagi glanced over at Janpu as she gave a mental recording of her thoughts "You think this is asking to much?"
Janpu shrugged doing the same "It's worth a shot to ask."
Usagi raised an eyebrow and grabbed her twins hand and communicated telepathically We are seriously gonna ask to have a jeweler make weapons for us. She isn't gonna-
Janpu gave another apologetic smile It's worth a try, we are gonna be late as it is
Usagi rolled her eyes though she did agree with her sister. Janpu then turned to Victoria, a smile a mile wide plastered on her face "You think you can help us girls out?"

Victoria watched them for a moment, reminding herself that she was the weird one here. In this day and age, this was normal dancing attire...she had to remember that, or she would likely push away a few customers. Even beyond that, there was something odd...a vague resonance of metal from the girls. Then again, with all their accessories, that shouldn't have been terribly surprising. She shook it off, taking down notes as best she could concerning their desires. Not only were they looking to buy, it seemed they had repairs and commissions at the ready, too. She picked up the bag, looking over the broken pearl strand inside before picking up the head piece and looking over it, too.

"You two are certainly rough on your jewelry," she commented, opening the bag and idly rolling one of the pearls in her fingers. "I shall do what I can to repair these...I will not hollow these, however...I could make faux pearls in their place. The result would be two necklaces: one real, and one false." She silently wondered if the twin would want one, as well, considering their desire to look as similar as possible. For now, she would play it safe and make a duplicate; even if they didn't take it with them now, she had a slight hunch that they would return for it later.

"Our ring selection is in that case. Do peruse them at your leisure while I work on these," she advised, scooping up the broken jewelry and the notes she had written as she vanished beyond a beaded curtain and turned the corner to her small workshop. She had wanted business, certainly, but she hoped she could complete these in a timely fashion. They seemed somewhat impatient...perhaps they had somewhere to be? It didn't matter to her, though...she was going to do this, and do it right. First was the easiest...repairing the true pearl strand. Silver would no longer do it; the twins had made it clear that they needed durability. Victoria, rather, pulled out a length of steel wire from a coil; it slid across the work table like a tiny snake, striking at the holes in the pearls and rebuilding the strand one at a time. She directed it based on what she recalled of the one that remained intact, trusting her memory for detail to guide her way.

In a matter of minutes, her steel 'snake' was full of pearly beads, and she snipped the wire from the rest of the coil in one stroke. Now came the interesting part, as she pressed the ends of the wire together; the two wrapped around one another before fusing, leaving no trace of a seam. Without a knot, or a clasp, or the like, she reasoned, it might last the girl a bit longer. "Now for that head ornament..."

"You two are certainly rough on your jewelry,"

Chuckling the girls nodded their heads, flashbacks of explosive earrings, fake nail audio recorders, gas emitting bracelets, and other concealed items had come into mind. As Victoria told them she would be making a fake one the girls did not argue. They figured she would make one that could handle more physical damage then a $20 necklace that crumbles under their own hands. Victoria pointed to the case that the rings had been contained in before disappearing behind a beaded curtain and leaving the twins alone. Silence surrounded the girls as they looked at all the rings and at a few more jewelry in the area. It wasn't long that they found something they thought their father would enjoy and even a few things they noted they would come back to buy.

Usagi found herself looking out the window her arms crossed as she begin to think of work. She gave a deep sigh as she turned to see her twin playing with the material of their clothing by sashaying her body from side to side. Usagi broke the silence immediately grabbing Janpu's attention "I'm starting to not like working at the clubs. I mean, we have been doing so much work and though we get paid a lot...it's not enough." Janpu nodded in agreement as she added "Plus Boss seems sort of-how do you say it- outta place?" Usagi snapped her fingers at Janpu her expression becoming worried "Plus, have you noticed those-" Janpu hopped forward towards her sister "Yes, those big guys! Every time they come by I think Boss is gonna make us beat them up!" They both gave heavy sighs and stared down at the floor. They had applied for the job to dance and get paid for it but since they had joined the club was relocated and their Boss having suspicious behavior. The girls didn't mind fighting but the money that they got did not cover their damages and their rent. They both decided to push the thought aside and go to the other side of the store to admire more items.

Victoria sighed, looking over the broken headpiece. She really had no model to work with here; it was clearly bent out of shape, but she wasn't entirely certain what the original shape was meant to be. She ran a finger over the metal, feeling its vibrations beneath her touch. It felt wrong...almost as though it knew, too, that it was out of alignment. She carefully caressed the accessory, the metal subtly bending with each gentle stroke as she literally felt out how the headpiece was meant to look. A couple heartier efforts in more clearly damaged places, and after a few minutes she smiled at it in satisfaction, holding it out at arm's length to view the whole thing at once. She could see why the girls were so attached to them; they held a beauty all their own, even if it was slightly alien to her tastes.

Setting it aside, there came the actual manufacture of new jewelry. Fake pearls for these ladies...given the strength with which the other things were broken, she could only assume that extra weight would matter little. Who knew...she could be serving metahumans; the population in the city seemed to be high enough for that likelihood. Still, it seemed most courteous to ask. She stood with the repaired items, walking for the curtain...

"Yes, those big guys! Every time they come by I think Boss is gonna make us beat them up!" Victoria overheard that last remark and gave an understanding nod. Fights in their workplace...that explained the broken jewelry. She opened the bead curtain, the clacking of strands against each other announcing her return.

"Excuse me," she greeted, bowing her head slightly. "I have finished your repairs. Your pearls are now on a strand of steel; it should not wear your pearls down too easily, and hopefully it will outlast the previous strand. Also, here is that headpiece." She set them down carefully for the two of them to survey, a slight pink in her cheeks visible against her somewhat pale skin and monochromatic hair.

"I do have a question for you...about these faux pearls I plan to create...is there any particular material you would prefer? I was considering steel once more, but it is rather weighty..."

After quickly examining the headband Janpu had grabbed it and placed it gingerly over her blue haired head. She turned to Usagi and made a funny face, her eyes crossed as she stuck her toungue out. Usagi gave a half smile and had took a mental snapshot of her sister who recieved the picture in a blink of an eye. "Ohh that's nice! Great job, Victoria," Janpu turned to Victoria, her hands clenched together agaisnt her face in great delight. Both the girls noticed the pink hue that rested on the jewlery makers cheeks and they stood silent as she spoke. Once Victoria was done asking her question the girls glanced to each other then chuckled "We can handle something heavy," Usagi continued on "As long as it doesnt weigh anything more then 1,000 lbs we can wear it comfortably." Janpu hopped forward with her hands resting behind her back as Usagi turned to look at the pearl necklace "We were hoping for beads that were like round bullets in disguise of pearls," Usagi now had the necklace in her hands, her eyes glued to the gleaming pearls "That's a bit too straightforward don't you think, Sis?" Janpu gave a deep sigh of annoyance and had slumped her body as she stared up at the ceiling with a face of complete boredom. Usagi quickly stepped forward next to her sister determination burning in red eyes "If you can you should have a cute bunny branded onto the pearl bullets! How cute would that be!?" Janpu clasped her hands together as her bored face transitioned into a dreamy expression "What a statement it would make!" Usagi's clenched onto her sisters shoulders and pushed her aside as she strode closer to Victoria "This has to happen! It just adds the already awesomeness to-" Usagi paused and stared into nothing awestruck by her next idea in which Janpu voiced "What if instead of already round bullets they are in the shapes of bunnies!?" Usagi broke from her spell and let out a faint squeal of happiness.

"So can you do it?"

Victoria had realized quickly that in Jump City, or even nearby Steel City, the simple asking of a question could be dangerous business. In this case, however, it was more confusing than anything else. She had heard stories of twins who almost seemed mentally linked; they completed each other's sentences, they knew what the other was doing, and they all-in-all appeared to be two halves of the same person. It was an interesting phenomenon from afar...but now that she was taking commission orders from two hyperactive teenage twins, it was making her head spin.

"One...one thousand?" She asked, already bewildered before the discussion of bullets. For what, she had no idea...after all, she knew of little that would take spherical rounds. Perhaps a slingshot? However, now they wanted rabbits engraved on them...and then for them to be rabbit shaped. After they asked her in unison, she took a moment, and a breath, to try and catch her mind up to what on Earth just transpired.

They can wear one thousand pounds, she repeated to herself mentally. So they are very strong...they want to use these beads as bullets in Heaven knows what. And rabbit shaped...? Rabbit shaped bullet beads for two super-strong, hyperactive teenage working girls dressed like--

"So...you want two strands of Bunny Bead Bullets," Victoria summed it up quickly, looking between the two of them. There was a small voice in the back of her head that told her she'd probably regret agreeing to such a task...but there was always the possibility they would simply remain bunny beads. "As I do not know how you intend to use them, I will need a size...and perhaps a color, as I doubt a pearl glaze would fool anyone. Finally, allow no one to know you received them from me. I am already living dangerously in this city, running a small business such as this. I do not need a crowd seeking my assistance with weaponry. My repair work, however, I will accept with pride."

She awaited their response, hoping that they would accept her terms. With such an order, perhaps she could put some away for rent...starving was easy enough, but she had lived far too long without a roof to call her own. It would not happen again.

"Pink! A beautiful pale pink!"

The girls held each other in their excitement. They knew they were going overboard with their request but it amazed them how this beautiful reserved women considered their every word and more so that she did not turn them down. They were forever grateful to Victoria and they found their emotions showing a great fondness to the women. They had no problem keeping the women's name secret when it came to their weaponry but once they got the chance they were going to brag about the pearls that she so quickly fixed.

Usagi stepped forward "Trust me, we won't get you a negative audience~!"
Janpu bounced in place as she answered Victoria's first question "If you can make the size have a half inch diameter then I think we can use it efficiently and not draw attention to ourselves."

The girls stepped back realizing that the space between them and Victoria was only mere inches, enough to feel her breathe graze their skin. they waited for Victoria to give the okay before trying to preoccupy themselves in her items once more. Something in their brains became curious about her though...

"I am already living dangerously in this city, running a small business such as this."

In what context did she mean this the girls wondered in unison.

Victoria blinked, the distance between the two twins and herself waning to nearly nothing as they seemed enthusiastically grateful for the help. They seemed to come to their senses after a moment and backed up slightly. She couldn't help but give these two a smile; their joy seemed infectious, and they were promising business that would help keep her from having to shut her doors.

"Half an inch diameter, pale pink...I can do that. Please, feel free to continue browsing, or you are welcome to speak to me as I work. The store is quiet, so I will easily hear you from the back." She took the directions back to the workshop once more, sitting down with more steel. She wasn't used to using so much of it at once, but at least it was plentiful and inexpensive. She started by molding an elongated pellet to the diameter requested, and then began to daintily add rabbit-like features. She was going for a crouching rabbit, its ears low against its back, keeping the artistic desire as well as its practical, projectile use. The first one was always the hardest; after it, she just had to copy, glaze, and string them together.

TWACK!!! Raith kicked the thug right in the mouth as hard as he could. He then turned to the others.
Next time, before you guys steal a purse think about it ok?
After he said that they threw the purse at him and ran.
Well they wern't as stupid as I thought.
Raith picked up the purse and looked inside it. No ID or anything. It wasn't like someone asked him to do this, he just saw a bunch of thugs rooting threw a purse and stoped them. There wasn't much else either just a wallet containing some cash (twelve dollars total) and a very pretty necklace.
Wow!
He said in awe. It had dimonds and was made of gold. Well he thought it was. He knew it wasn't right but if no one was looking for it he figured he'd claim it, and before taking it to a local pawn shop he was going to ask a jewler first. He put his trench coat on and walked for about thirty minutes till he found a shop that said. Three Vallys Jewlers.
Now that seem's about right.
He said smileing. He pushed the door open and walked in.
