| "...And now I'm mad."«««IDENTITY»»» Codename: Alpha Knight Nickname(s): Alpha, Al, Alphie Age: 22 physically Race: Tamaranean Hybrid Alignment: Neutral Good Is this a canon?: No «««PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION»»» Hair Color: Red Eye Color: Green Gender: Male Height: 6'6" Weight: 240 lbs Other Traits: Al's eyes glow bright whenever he is feeling strong emotions- this is obvious, but still worth noting. He has many body scars as well. «««SKILL SET»»» Main Power Origins: Super/Natural (Alien heritage) PowersHybrid Tamaranean Physiology: In terms of DNA, Alpha is about 98.96% Tamaranean, with the remaining percentage being human DNA used to fill the gaps from an incomplete genome. As such, his powers are almost entirely the same as the standard Tamaranean's. However, thanks to the minor amount of human DNA in his genome, as well as some minor fiddling from his creators, Alpha's powers are not all the standard fare.
- Starbolts: Like all other Tamaraneans, Alpha absorbs ultraviolet energy from all around him, using it to fuel his myriad alien powers. The most direct usage of this stored energy is to create starbolts, small circularblasts of pure energy. These can be launched, as if thrown, causing heat and force to be applied to whatever they hit, usually enough to knock a regular human back with a full-frontal hit. This energy can be held in the hand as well, either to provide light, or to apply heat onto objects that Alpha touches. Generally speaking, a Tamaranean must go through a form of "puberty" to fire starbolts from their eyes. While Alpha is physically of the correct age to do this, he seems to currently lack the ability. Starbolts are also fueled by the emotion of fury.
- Super Strength: Tamaraneans are quite strong. Starfire herself is shown to even be stronger than Cyborg himself. Alpha is no exception, able to lift a great amount of weight, as well as put that same weight behind every strike and blow he makes. At his maximum, Alpha can lift twenty tons, or about the weight of a bus, over his head. He cannot perform this feat one-handed, even if he thinks that he could. Super strength is tied to Alpha's confidence.
- Flight: Alpha has the ability to fly, and his strength is not diminished when he is airborne. He can fly as fast as Mach 1, but risks extreme overexertion if he flies faster than this for longer than a few seconds. Additionally, Alpha's ability to fly seems to rely on the presence of gravity, something to resist, and as such he cannot fly in space unaided. The ability to fly relies on the emotion of joy.
- Enhanced Durability: Another ability of Tamaraneans is the power to shrug off attacks that don't reach a certain level of power. Alpha is very enduring, able to take punches from other super-strength users with relative ease, but he is by no means invulnerable. Ten tons of force is equivalent for Alpha to being punched by a regularly strong person, and an equally matched strength user would cause him serious harm after a few blows. He can be overpowered and outmatched, and injuries for him don't heal any faster than those of humans, relatively speaking. He is not immune to poison or disease. Additionally, when his strength is weakened, this facet of his physiology also suffers, making him easier to beat in a physical battle.
- Battlemind: The key difference between Alpha and other Tamaraneans is the ability dubbed "Battlemind." Tamaraneans have the ability to consume linguistic information via a kiss, through some form of telepathy. Thanks to tinkering by his makers, Alpha has lost that ability, and gained in its stead Battlemind. What this allows him to do is gain a more open awareness of emotional energy around him, allowing him to, at times, tell if he is about to be attacked even if he cannot see the attacker. However, for this to work, the attacker needs to have emotions, and anyone who can control their emotions fairly well is essentially masked from his danger sense. Attackers with psychic shields are also entirely masked against it.
Skills
- Hand-to-hand: The first thing that Alpha was taught was how to fight. He has no particular style, and for the most part only knows the basics in terms of punches, kicks, and holds. He is best described as a common brawler for this reason, mainly relying on his superpowers in a fight.
- Swordplay: While far from a master, Alpha has also begun training with a blade, to further extend the scope of his combat abilities. He can hold his own against other intermediate level sword-fighters, but is no match for advanced and master swordsmen.
AbilitiesPhysical Weaknesses
- Metal Chromium: When exposed to metal chromium, Alpha becomes very ill, showing similar symptoms to a nasty flu for several days after exposure. His powers all become quite feeble while in this state as well.
- Magic: Like many other alien beings, Alpha has no natural safeguards against magical powers. They affect him to the full extent of their intended power, and he generally cannot resist spells and magical energy whatsoever.
Mental Weaknesses
- Emotions: Alpha's emotional state has a direct link to his powers. If he's in a blind rage, or depressed, he's unable to fly. If he loses confidence, his strength diminishes. If he falls into apathy, he would be unable to use any of his powers to their full extent, or even at all. Keeping his emotions in check, but also allowing them to flourish harmoniously, is the only way to maximize their potential- but this would be incredibly hard to do, and is something he may never master.
- ESP Backdoor: Due to his Battlemind ability, which seems to draw from ambient psychic sources, Alpha has a glaring vulnerability to other psychic abilities. When the target of a psychically damaging ability, Alpha suffers at more than double the intensity of the average person, to the point he can be knocked unconscious in half the time. Additionally, magic that is based in illusion or other mentality-based effects is twice as powerful or deceiving against him.
Equipment
- Body armor: Alpha wears body armor made from an iron-titanium alloy. While fairly lightweight, it offers a decent amount of protection. However, it's not even really strong enough to protect against its wearer, and is usually destroyed and mangled throughout a fight. Handy in a pinch, but not the perfect suit of armor.
- Longsword: A modernly designed weapon with practicality in mind, this sword is made from a similar material to his armor, and has no supernatural properties. It is often kept in a sheath at the back of his belt.
- DOMA communicator
- Handcuffs
«««CEREBRAL PROFILE»»» PersonalityAs things are right now, Alpha- Alan -has not had a lot of time to develop much of a true personality. He is often consumed by rage and confusion, almost completely at odds with his sensitive Tamaranean nature. His people are the sort who know themselves, understand their emotions, and Alan is afforded no such luxury. He's an alien to his own heritage, but there is a part of him that doesn't want to learn about his culture- in fear of being rejected by it. Under DOMA, Alan often defers to his leaders and the scientists when asked to make a real decision. Being their weapon is all he knows, and knowing that he has nowhere else to go, he surrenders his individuality to them. This can make him come off as very isolated and obedient when he isn't flying off the handle in a rage. There is a burning soul within him, though, desperate to break out. «««PERSONAL BACKGROUND»»»
Family Members: Unknown Tamaranean DNA Donor, "Mother". Neil Justice, Human DNA Donor, "Father". Place of Origin: Secret DOMA Laboratory, Jump City
History Anyone who has walked the streets of Jump City, and many other cities in the country, by now knows the dangers posed by superhuman activity. Streets become warzones in moments, buildings are in constant need of being rebuilt, and, well...taxes are high. These supers, these metahumans... They need to be put in check, and fast. That is the purpose of the Department of Metahuman Affairs: DOMA. Operations in Jump City have already begun to combat the threat of vigilante groups like the Teen Titans...
DOMA is funded and controlled by the government, and the government expects results. The department had its shield in the form of federal oversight, the jurisdiction to do exactly what they needed, when they needed it...but what they lacked was a sword. From there, began the "Knight Project", an initiative to fight fire with fire, to bring the battle to an equal standpoint. There were many failures, many rejects, but eventually, the scientists working for DOMA cracked the code.
The Alpha Knight was the first being fully synthesized in that lab, artificially matured to a suitable age to act as the sword of DOMA. Comprised mostly of recovered Tamaranean DNA, with just enough human DNA to close the gaps, Alpha was a modern marvel of biological engineering. The head scientist of the Knight Project, Neil Justice, took a special liking to the artificially grown soldier, deciding to act as his "father" figure, with the approval of his superiors, of course. Neil oversaw Alpha's training, and noticed the boiling emotions of his ward. Instead of working to help Alpha control them, he decided to see how far he could take this...
«««Sample RP»»»
The combat training was going well, or so thought Dr. Neil Justice. Watching from the observation room, he took notes on the Knight's performance. Inside the training chamber, Alpha was already hard at work. Surrounded by about ten DOMA operatives, all armed with stun batons. They charged him two or three at a time, only to be thrown with impressive distance by the Tamaranean hybrid. However, things were becoming much more tense, as the prongs of a baton sunk into his exposed lower back. Alpha's eyes lit up bright green, his hands following suit.
"GRAAAH!" he shouted, basically unintelligible as he began to give out starbolts like they were candy. The use of his ultraviolet energy bursts had been prohibited prior to the match, so the doctor knew it was time to call it there. He rushed down to the door of the chamber, using his badge to get inside. He ran to Alpha, risking catching a starbolt to the face, waving his arms. "Alan, Alan," he called. The knight didn't hear, turning his back to the doctor to keep firing bolts around the chamber, the operatives ducking and hiding away as best as they could, trying for the door.
Dr. Justice put his hand on Alpha's back, trying to get his attention, only to be knocked aside by an angry fist. Justice's expression, once hopeful and earnest, turned dark and sour. "Pile on, boys," he said. "I think our friend here needs a few more nights in the tank..." The declaration changed Alan's face entirely, his eyes fading as he glanced about in fear. "No...no...not that...it's too dark," he said, in protest. But it was too late. The guards did as they were asked, able to overpower Alpha eventually. Dragged through halls, taken into his "home". Dunked into that cold, awful fluid...and soon, pulled unwillingly into sleep. | |
