Dar sat with his back to the wall, looking out the prison cell bars. This was no normal prison. He was wearing a collar around his neck that canceled out his powers. The walls that he could normally break through with ease were suddenly impassible. He was just like a normal human.
Perhaps that wasn't so bad, though. At least here he could be at peace. He didn't need to worry about his powers getting the better of him. The bloodlust inside him was steadily fading. How strange it was to be happiest in a jail cell.
This wasn't how Dar had imagined his future when he had first entered Jump City. He had fancied himself the newly arrived king. He would conquer this city of meta-humans and eventually make his attempt on world domination. It was all for the fun of it, of course. He couldn't care less who ruled the world, as long as he got to conquer it.
What a fool he had been, like a child playing chess against an adult. His plans had been ill-conceived, and when they fell apart he had nothing left to lean on. It wasn't Colossus who had brought him here, nor the fear of his powers. Dar realized that Jump City itself had brought him here to punish his ambition. This was the city that crushed dreams. Dar had defended it against the Zydon, risking life and limb to protect it's people, and yet he was now a prisoner in the same city.
Suddenly, a Zydon bomb dropped on the prison.
When Dar came to, the smoke was still clearing away. He could see that the bars to his cell were gone. It was a good thing he hadn't been sitting too close to them. The thought entered his mind that he could escape. But what would be the point of that? It wouldn't really fix his broken dream to run away. Instead, Dar walked out of his cell and headed for the kitchen. He would take advantage of the situation to grab a doughnut or two before returning to his cell.
