Nickname(s): "Hey you."
Codename: None
Alias(es): Age: Appearance-early twenties / Actuality-Timeless
Classification: Arraseen
Affiliation: Lawful good
===PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION===
Hair Color: Light blue
Eye Color: Light blue/cyan
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 250 lbs (70 lbs as a skeleton)
Other Traits: Pitch black skin. Can have his body altered to swap genders or become a eunuch.
===POWERS===
Powers:Soul draining: Kardus possesses the ability to drain souls from their bodies through his skin or eyes and mouth, taking them into his own body. From there they are stored until they are returned to their body or passed on to the afterlife. This ability can be used on anyone within a 10 yard range, BUT THEY MUST BE WILLING; or dead, in which case they've already disconnected from their body and don't have much of a choice. They then have the option of choosing what happens to them. For souls that have not given consent to surrender themselves, the power works quite differently. For such cases the range is shortened to about 6 inches; and rather than removing the person's soul it simply drains their strength. Draining a person's strength in this way requires some concentration, making it an attack that cannot be used at the same time as a punch or a kick. Each time a person's strength is drained, their physical strength as well as their powers become 20% weaker. At the same time, Kardus becomes 10% stronger. This effect can be used, on average, twice per post; but only once per post on the same person. This effect lasts one hour and can stack, making his opponents up to 80% weaker while making himself up to 100% stronger. When using this ability with his hands, glowing, cyan colored lines seem to form on his hands and forearms. A sudden rush of cyan-ish wisps of energy rush out from the closest parts of the person (like the shoulder for example) and are absorbed by those glowing lines; afterwards they vanish until the ability is used again. Absorbing through the eyes and mouth is the same; they glow, the energy is absorbed, and then they stop glowing.
Synthetic body: Kardus' body is technically not a living thing, composed entirely of non-living parts. Though much of his body is made to resemble a biological body, it's internal workings are completely different (for example, his 'blood' is a light blue, runny syrup made to be an excellent conductor of spiritual and cosmic energy. It's also poisonous, and tastes horrible). It is built to run not on food, but on Kardus' soul and essence, which is more than capable of powering it. The body is capable of exerting 5 tons of force, and withstanding up to 10 tons of force without sustaining damage. His strength can be increased by using the soul drain power, but his durability is set and does not increase with this.
-Non-organic physiology: Kardus' skeletal structure is composed of a black metallic substance rather than calcium. It is completely indestructible and inseparable, and is what houses his soul and any other souls he absorbs, ensuring them perfect safety from any outside influence. In addition, these bones are capable of moving on their own without the use of muscles; but this movement is quite weak and uncoordinated. The skeleton, if removed of all synthetic flesh, has enough strength to stand, walk, and move light objects; but no more. Any normal adult human can easily overpower Kardus like this.
He is immune to anything that would affect an organic body, such as disease, poison, lack of air, radiation, hypnosis, being hit in pressure points, sensory disruption, and most forms of mind control or mood alteration. He is also immune to EMP's, technomancy, and things made for technological disruption. He does not require sleep or food.
He can also adjust his body to be able to handle temperatures ranging from nearly zero kelvin, to 10,000 degrees Celsius. However it does take time to adjust do make this adjustment; at least an hour (or no time if done at home). When these adjustments are made, Kardus changes the temperature range that his body can function normally in. On earth, this range is normally from -10 to 120. On a volcanic planet, however, he might adjust it to somewhere around 10,000 to 12,500; or -100 to 0 in an arctic environment. Any temperatures above his limits can potentially damage him, while temperatures below his will drain his strength as the temperature decreases.
-Fighting drive: The way Kardus is connected to his body allows him to push it to it's limits with ease, fighting through pain as if it wasn't there, which isn't far from the truth. He rarely tires, if ever, and can go for weeks without rest or sleep.
-Dormant healing: Discontent with the idea of having to return home to be repaired from even the smallest injuries, Kardus developed a way to heal himself. To do this he must shut down his body's functions, like flipping a switch, leaving him completely limp, inactive, and unable to do anything; however he can retain all his senses to a limited degree, except eyesight. While he is in this dormant state, Kardus will regenerate his body at a rate of one pound per minute, and he has control over what heals first. If an object is in the way and preventing him from healing (like a sword through his chest) he can focus on dissolving it instead of healing, but this takes significantly longer. He can leave this state whenever he wants.
-Area sensing/scanning vision: Kardus can sense objects and motion within 10 yards in all directions; however this power works like sonar in that he cannot see colors or specific details. In addition, his eyes can be used to take a 3D image of whatever he's looking at, letting him see the internal makeup of an object, as well as allowing him to see behind it. He can also see souls.
Skills: When you've been alive for as long as Kardus has, you tend to become a walking encyclopedia. Kardus seems to know at least a little bit about almost everything; from magic spells, to how a hyper-drive engine works, to genetic engineering, to making the best champagne you've ever tasted.
As of recently, Kardus has taken some serious studies in medical practice and knows the human anatomy like the back of his hand- hey, that's new. ... Anyway, he can administer top notch medical care, provided he has what he needs to work with.
As part of being able to learn about his environment, Kardus has an enhanced sense of taste and smell that lets him determine the molecular makeup of anything he breaths in or ingests. This makes him very good at checking for poison, as well as an excellent food critic.
Weaknesses:Ranged attacks: Kardus is a melee fighter; his soul drain ability won't work from a distance.
Flammable blood: If one can pierce Kardus' skin and get to the bluish liquid underneath, and lights a match, he could essentially become a walking candle.
Buffs and healing are useless on him: Magic or medical treatments aren't going to work on a body that's not alive in the first place. Kardus' body is made to resist any forms of alteration, even ones that would help him.
Droids, golems, politicians, and the like: Kardus' soul drain ability does not work on beings that do not have one.
Transmogrification: Kardus' body resists and does not react well to anything that tries to alter it. For example, a spell that would normally turn him into a bunny for about a hour wouldn't work. Instead, it would probably make his blood boil, leaving him in a very messy and internally damaged state.
Brain damage: The link between Kardus soul and the rest of his body is housed in the best protected part it can be in, his skull. Even so, if something gets to it and damages it, it will render him unconscious and essentially dead until it heals.
Indestructible objects: The harder an object is to break down, the longer Kardus' healing ability takes to remove it from him. If something like his own swords or an unbreakable, enchanted weapon is in Kardus, he cannot use his dormant healing to remove it.
Equipment: Two, arm-mounted swords, made from the same metal that his bones are made of. They can be summoned at will, and are imbued with a cosmic power that allows Kardus to create a portal back to his home reality, Athera.
- Spoiler:
A medical pack that contains a first aid kit, a sewing kit, and a few other tools for medical use that can be found at any hospital. In addition, it carries 5 pints of Kolto, a green liquid consisting of fast-adapting stem cells that can rapidly replace tissue to stop bleeding, while at the same time replace lost blood. It won't make all your boo-boos go bye-bye, but if you're mortally wounded and bleeding out, this stuff can save your life.
===PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE===
Personality: Kardus' personality is...interesting, to say the least. He is not exactly easy to understand, and he doesn't expect people to. Kardus is usually rather easygoing, sometimes sporadic and whimsical; but turns serious when he senses the situation calls for such. He is a reformed soul, determined to keep peace with himself and to let nothing disturb that peace. In stressful situations he will refuse to break, maintaining that inner peace with remarkable discipline and willpower, remembering how hard it was to find and refusing to let go of it.
Kardus considers the souls of the innocent to be the most beautiful, precious, and valuable things in existence; and has devoted his life to ensure that no harm comes to them. Witnessing the permanent destruction of an innocent soul is the quickest way to break Kardus.
Strengths:Loyal and strong willed.
Interests/Habits:Where some boys get nosebleeds from seeing a hot girl, Kardus just goes blind; however his area sensing still works. Does not happen 100% of the time. Lasts about a minute.
Being strange.

Family Members: Kasha(distant relative), ???(brother), Solaris(brother), Max(brother), Samantha(sister), Caroline(wife), Anya(daughter)
Place of Origin: Athera, his pocket reality
History:Long ago, in the vast inter-dimensional rift, came into existence the creation of a certain reality. It was big, complex, beautiful; but has no kind life in it. No life, except one being. Unlike a normal reality, in which the life force/souls/spirit energy was distributed out between untold trillions of trillions of living things spread throughout the universe; in this reality it all remained together, forming one massive and concentrated cosmic entity of immeasurable power. It existed in the heart of the universe, and by sheer power of will, could feel, control, manipulate, and direct everything within its boundaries of inter-space including time itself. It spent countless ages experimenting with it and basking in the awe of its planets and stars, and of its galaxies and clusters of galaxies. It experimented with its powers in various ways; manipulating gravity, space, and time itself. It watched galaxies collide and create beautiful displays of color and gravity storms; it created wormholes between points and observed the results; it observed novas, quasars, black holes, wormholes, gamma bursts and all the rest of that fun stuff. It even observed time itself, its own progression as the clusters of galaxies dispersed from their origin, accelerating time forward to when they slow their movement, then turned time back to its own origination, then forward once again. The beauty around it never ceased to amaze the being.
After countless ages the being realized that there were other worlds; MANY others. It looked out, past the walls of it's reality, and saw a vast array of worlds; millions of worlds, and hundreds of collections of worlds. Some were huge clusters, others were only as big as two or three universes; in still others the worlds overlapped, resulting in infinite parallel universes all condensed together but each oblivious to the others. For many more countless ages the being only observed them; but finally decided that it wished to involve itself in these worlds. The being could not interact directly; and needed a body, an avatar to send down into them. Thus it created two avatars for itself. The first resembled a shell that it controlled like a puppet, but required part of the being's soul to exist inside of it; a part that later broke off and became its own soul. The second, created much later and using what the being had learned from creating the first, was a more autonomous being, able to live and function with little influence from its creator. These beings were given names that few beings were able to pronounce verbally, resembling "Kadarasheena" for the first and “Kasharemnass for the second. They would become known by their 'nicknames' "Kardus" and "Kasha", respectively.
While Kasha was still being formed, the early Kardus had been finished and sent to different worlds, primarily the worlds that did not have a sufficient afterlife system. His main purpose was to rescue innocent souls that would otherwise be lost or doomed to a fate they didn't deserve. Kasha was later finished, but his first attempt at entering a reality nearly destroyed it entirely due to the sheer mass of power that Kasha possessed; and was therefore kept in the home reality until a way could be found to enter it into a world in a more stable manner. It was realized that, with Kasha, other realities needed to be studied further in order to find a way to make Kasha more compatible with them. Then something caught the eye of the entity; an infant child with incredible magical powers inherited by her parents. Even as a baby, her powers were remarkably vast; but unable to control it, the infant was considered a danger to itself and all those around it by her parents. Considered to be a ticking time bomb waiting to go off, her parents abandoned her in the woods. Feeling both compassion for the child and seeing an opportunity, the entity decided to try an experiment. It guessed that the reason for Kasha's incompatibility was the sheer power he held, and wondered what would happen if Kasha lost that power and instead lived off of a native power source. With the internal source of his power removed and his memories altered, Kasha was sent down to try to enter the reality and merge with the girl to use her power instead of his own. To the delight of the entity, the merge was a success, and not only gave Kasha a way to live inside another reality, but also allowed him to stabilize the power of the girl he resided in. But Kasha still found himself unable to take a physical form without damaging the world around him; and so therefore remained hidden inside the girl, examining the structure of the world around it until he could determine how to integrate with it. Until then, the girl would need to be fostered and cared for by a native resident. Kardus was therefore sent to find a suitable set of parents to raise the child, and dropped the girl off at the doorstep of Richard and Martha Cadburry. The elderly couple adopted this child as their own, giving her the name, Annie.
Meanwhile, Kardus continued to serve his purpose well, but at a cost. Every time Kardus entered and influenced a reality, it became damaged. Kardus found a way to remove the damage and take it upon himself, thinking he could handle it, but the instabilities that this caused slowly stockpiled. In addition, Kardus took many souls that were not purely innocent. These souls were not evil, but were nevertheless tainted; and again Kardus determined to take these damages upon himself before sending the souls on to his father. Over the ages, these damages stacked up inside Kardus and the massive entity he was connected to, and in fact began to grow like a disease inside them. For a time, the damage and corruption could be contained, but it resulted in making Kardus more and more unstable. The entity began to lose control of Kardus as he would periodically attack the beings he was supposed to protect. These bursts of violent behavior damaged Kardus and his creator even more, to the point where the entity began to see Kardus as a threat to societies rather than a tool to protect them. In an effort to resolve this, it forced Kardus into a dormant state, put him in a pocket dimension that he formed, and sent it to a stable reality to "cool down" for a while. It was during that time that Kardus created Caroline, a sentient construct made to keep Kardus in check and manage these instabilities; as well as managing the recently made home pocket dimension for him. Kardus resided in that world for about 2 months before he was awoken by a native, and stayed 6 months more before the instabilities grew once again. Shortly afterwards, the entity tried resolving the issue again; this time by forcing Kardus into a human form and restraining his power. It seemed to work at first, but in truth this had only hidden and slowed the growing corruption.
Eventually that tightly contained corruption grew until it couldn't be contained anymore, and exploded with such violence that it destroyed both Kardus and the entity itself. Only Kasha, now disconnected from his origins, was spared from this backlash. However both Kardus and the entity reformed, but neither was a singular being anymore. The entity had found itself split into three beings, each with its own section of the reality that was split off from the rest. The first of these resembled what it was before, but with much less power; and became known among the three as the god of peace and life. The second, however, was an embodiment of all the corruption that had been absorbed over the eons, and became known as the god of chaos, destruction, and death. The third being, stronger than either one of the others, became known as the god of order and balance, and kept the other two in check. Kardus likewise had split off into 5 different beings. One was the remnants of the original Kardus, permanently in human form now and considerably weakened. The second was an omnipresent spirit that had already spread itself throughout the cosmos. The third, a sentient, exo-suit construct that could amplify the powers of its pilot. The fourth, a feral and violet soul parasite that could empower and assume control of its host. And the fifth was a monster, full of violence, wrath, and immense power.
It was this last one that caught the attention of the god of destruction, and he immediately took control of it and sent it off with only one goal. Burn everything. The monster proceeded to do just that, vaporizing two whole planets before the other gods even knew what was going on. The god of life was horrified, and instantly sent the construct and Kardus to deal with this threat, but found itself unable to take control of the other two. The god of balance, meanwhile, merely watched this all take place and did nothing to intervene. The battle that ensued by these avatars was ferocious, but ultimately ended in a stalemate when Kardus and the construct managed to contain the monster. Infuriated, the god of death turned to attack his enemy directly; thus resulting in a massive war between the god of death and life. They were fairly evenly matched, with the god of death having more raw power but the god of life knowing better how to use the power he had. However the god of death seemed untouchable and managed to make several crippling blows to his foe. It seemed as if he would win, when the god of balance finally intervened. With combined efforts they forced the god of death into a dormant state, thus ending the war.
After this whole mess was finished, Kardus was left mostly to himself. No longer certain of his purpose, he spent a lot of time wandering between realities and spending a lot of time in his own. It was decided between the gods of life and order that Kardus best not have any further burdens placed on him, due to them seeing that he was no longer strong enough to carry out the duties he was once given. Ever since then, Kardus has been on a sort of extended vacation, appearing only on rare occasions on various worlds. During this time, however, it was found that Kardus still had difficulties with remaining stable. It was believed that he would never recover, and he even had one or two near death experiences where his soul nearly collapsed altogether. In fact, one time it did.
Accepting that his life was over and that there was nothing more he could do, Kardus embraced death. He had his weakened soul sealed in an enchanted coffin, expecting to sleep the rest of his days until he finally ceased altogether. A couple thousand years passed, and to his surprise his soul restored itself during that time of dormancy; and he emerged from it again. However it was still incomplete, and Caroline set out to seek out pure souls that would donate themselves to become part of Kardus and restore him. Many souls from select worlds accepted this calling, restoring him fully once again. This time, his view of himself changed. Realizing that his soul was not just his own, but the souls of those that had become him; he understood that he could not push or harm himself as he had before. He had to care and respect his own soul, out of concern for those that had joined him. This realization, in addition to the reunion of his long-lost daughter, Anya, helped Kardus to finally grow stable again. A new body was constructed, a new role was taken, and he again set out to do what he had been created to do. Protect the souls of the innocent.
