Anyone home?

"You think I'm human, eh... Physically, you're right girly. However my humanity died when I did. In here," He pointed to his head. "And in here." He brought his finger down to rest over his heart. "I don't believe I am worthy to belong to my old race if the three of us remain trapped in here. And after all this time with him..." Zack looked around before leaning in and whispering as if the voices in his head were listening and wouldn't be able to hear if he did so. "Between you and me, love, I really don't think he's human. He doesn't seem human. Humans have emotion, see, regardless as to how they hide it. You spend enough time with them, and you can see it. But I've been closer to him than what should be possible for a long time now, and I haven't seen anything. And I'm very observant." He leaned back in his chair, speaking loudly as if to cover up what he had just said. "As I was saying, I've been trying to redeem myself for ages now. But each time, something holds me back. It's like someone has an override code to my brain. Which is weird, considering I escaped my creators and have managed a degree of self control."

Shadow frowned to herself as Zack explained - or tried to explain - his issues. This was getting confusing. She tried to make a little more sense of the situation by asking Zack himself. 'Okay, so he is... you? Part of you? Because we all have inhuman parts. I do. I mean, my wings, for one.'

Zack's next statement was even more disconcerting. Shadow wasn't even bothered about being sensitive anymore, she just wanted to get to the bottom of this. She asked, 'Redeem yourself from what?', then mentally slapped herself. Curious as she was, that was such a blunt manner of asking such a blunt question. What was she trying to do, help Zack or piss him off and get herself beaten up? God, Shadow, she scolded herself. If your mother could see you now.

(Newcomers are always welcome! Should be interesting considering both Shadow and Zack broke into the tower. XD)

Zack chuckled. "We may have our inhuman parts, but some have more than others. When they put him in my head, they put a lot more than just him." He whispered again, his grin appearing almost worried. "They put something in, something to spy on me, something to control me. But I escaped before they could activate it. The Silence weighs heavily on my mind. It is a door, a door that they could open if they caught me. But the other pieces haven't found me yet. I plan to remove the other pieces so I can get off the board, for in the end, the king and the pawn go in the same box. If I can put the King in checkmate after removing the other pieces, he will get me to the master. Once the player and his pieces are all gone, this can never happen again and this city, these people, this state, this country, all will be safe."

'...okay...' Shadow was getting more confused by the minute. And kind of creeped out. As her brain struggled to make sense out of Zack's roundabout explanation, her powers kicked in. She could sense someone in the shadows around... no, wait... on top of the Tower?

'Umm, Zack? I really hate to interrupt out little heart-to-heart, but there's someone on top of the Tower.' Shadow was a little relieved to have something else to talk about, despite her slightly sarcastic comment. Their conversation had been getting pretty deep. Not one of Shadow's strengths. Socialising at all was usually awkward for her.

Shaking off the self-doubt that had always plagued her, she glanced at Zack, wondering how he would react to this new information.

Jay sat on the top of a hotel building, drawing her usual cast of birds, falcons, owls eagles. She had seen plenty. Talked to a few neat ones even. She finished up a few small details one an owls face and put the sketch pad back into her old backpack and sighed. She stood and stretched her wings and arms before slinging the backpack over her shoulders and running over the edge of the hotel and taking off into the warm air.
"So, what are we doing today?" Jay asked herself.
After a few hours of flying around town, high above anyone's sights she saw over in the ocean a large T shaped building. She tilted her body towards it catching the wind to glide over to it with little effort.
"Now what in the world could that be?" She asked as she circled it twice taking in every detail she could before landing on the rocky island that surrounded the building. She looked at the door and cocked her head at it, as if staring at it would give her the answers.
"Well, one way to find out..."she sighed, reached up and knocked on the heavy set door. After a minute she realized no one would have heard the first knock and knocked loudly on the door making sure some one was going to hear it.

Zack's grin widened as his attention span got the better of him. "Company? always fun!" He stood, picking up his knife and pistol and placing them on the back of his belt where they stayed suspended. "I wonder who else could be knocking." As he walked past the table, he picked up his Famas and placed it on his back. Like his other weapons, it stayed in place when he let go. He raised his hands behind his head in his odd reclined walk and hummed cheerily as he approached the door. Opening it, he raised an eyebrow, his grin practically stretching from ear to ear. "And who might you be, then? Have you brought the silly hats?"

Jay cocked her head in her usual avian fashion, "Uhm, silly hats? No, I was just wondering what a giant T was doing in the ocean." Jay cocked her head the other direction catching a good look of the thing on his back. She frowned wondering what was holding the thing in place.
How many weird people like this are there? she thought, looking this person over.
His grin made a shudder travel down her back making her feathers fluff up.
"Anyway, I was just being curious, didn't mean to cause any problems or anything." In all honest Jay was really interested in what was inside the building and was slightly interested to get to know this new person.

Shadow was even more relieved when Zack's obviously short attention span kicked in. He rushed off to the front door, leaving his dark companion wondering if the new arrival would take his weird behaviour as calmly as she had. Probably not. It took a lot to coax any major reaction from Shadow, after all.

Sighing, she follow Zack downstairs to the door, wincing at his completely random question. Silly hats? Honestly. At this rate, Titans Tower would have a reputation for attracting rather... strange types. Oh well, what do you care, Shadow thought. A few minutes ago you were furious at the Titans.

As she reached the bottom of the stairs, she peered over Zack's shoulder, assessing the newcomer.

(( Sure why not! saves me from the silly hat thing... right? *cowers from insanity in front of her*))

"No silly hats? How will we have a silly hat party then?" Zack threw his hands up in mock exasperation and spun around in a neat about face. Then he stopped, looking back and forth between the newcomer and Shadow. His face lit up as an idea formed in his head. "We can have a wing party! Yea! And here I thought the day would be ruined because SOMEONE forgot the silly hats." He wandered off towards the kitchen again, singing Smooth Criminal to no one in particular, pausing the song only to make a quick comment. "These parties always make me hungry. As do ceiling fans. And food. Food makes me really hungry for some reason. Anyone want anything?" Without waiting for an answer, he resumed his song and disappeared into the kitchen.

Jay took this as an invitation in, " I call anything with eatable!" She looked over and saw the other person, wondering what the creepy grinning guy had meant by a "wing party".
"SHADOW! Your here too! Well, at least I know now this isn't an insane asylum." Jay said as she nodded her head in the direction of the kitchen.
Oh, and how can it be a wing party if he doesn't have wings?" Jay asked, completely confused as to what she had gotten herself into.

Shadow let a rare half-smile touch her face, but it quickly disappeared as she caught herself. Jay's enthusiasm had brought her guard down.

'Hi, Jay. I wouldn't be so sure about the insanity, by the way. I think he's rubbing off on me.' The sarcasm and irony Shadow's voice was dripping with reassured her rational side that she was, indeed, unaffected by Zack's behaviour. Maybe Jay was a good influence. Despite her overwhelming happiness... and volume. The blue-winged girl's next question almost made Shadow smile for real.

'Don't ask me. As far as I'm concerned, there's no party. Not with me around.' With that, she turned to follow Zack into the kitchen, waving Jay after her.

Zach opened the fridge, continuing to sing. Leaving the fridge open, he walked to the pantry, grabbed a loaf of bread, walked back, and proceeded to make a massive sandwich featuring whatever he could find in the fridge. Coming across a supply of tofu, he stuck his tongue out in disgust. "Gross... There should never be a reason to eat this fake crap. Never." He tossed the tofu behind him, uncaring as to what happened to it. "Too bad there's no bacon..." He sounded almost sad as he continued making his monstrosity, though quickly forgot about the absence of bacon.
