A Sister's Call (Kyte)

Seeing the name come across her screen made Avy gasp and jump up, answering the call before it was even able to ring once. Just a few seconds later and she was already hanging up. Her sister was back!! DOMA was gone and now Rico was back! Avy ran around the apartment she was currently residing in and packed a bag. There was no way her twin was getting rid of her for at LEAST 48 hours.

Out the door in a matter of minutes and zipping down the halls, getting an uber together on the way down. She almost crashed into a poor old lady and shouted out an apology as she slid out the door and right into her uber's car. She gave the man the address and was on her way!!

What felt like an eternity later was actually only a matter of minutes before she was parked right outside of the familiar house. She got out of the car and ran up to the door, knocking on it excitedly as her eyes swirled with pink and yellow. As soon as Rico answered the door, she would be met with arms wrapping around her neck and a yell in her ear. "SISTER!!! Oh how I've missed you..." She kissed her cheek but didn't release her hold on the girl.

Rico answered the door with a surprisingly equal amount of enthusiasm, grinning ear to ear and tugging Avy inside. "Avy! It's so good to see you!" She shut the door. Suzuki was out on patrols right now, which Rico had been understandably a bit tentative about, but with DOMA gone, was sure Suzuki could handle herself while she got their home back in order.

She didn't match her sister's enthusiasm for long, but she wasn't going to be an ass and try and cut it out. She hugged Avy back for as long as she wanted. "I missed you so much... how are things? Are you doing alright?" She held her forehead against hers, her own eyes closed as she rocked back and forth with her. She was just glad to be able to see her sister again. DOMA was a severe miscalculation. She didn't know how it had ever gotten through. They did have a point with young heroes getting involved with crime fighting and endangering themselves, but the Titans had long been only a benefit for the city.

Avy continued to stay wrapped around her sister for a solid minute before finally sliding down to touch her feet to the ground. Her arms stayed around her neck though as their foreheads touched and she closed her eyes with Rico, sighing in absolute relief as she heard her voice. Felt her touch. Saw her standing in front of her alive and well. The girl's voice was soft and a little shaky, but that was okay. "I'm doing fine... I've been worried, but I've been trying my best to trust in you and Suzuki. I knew you would be okay. I knew you would be back." Her hands fell from around her sister's neck to grip lightly at the hem of her shirt.

That's all that needed to be said. There was always more on her mind, like entities all standing behind her while she sat on the couch in front of them, but they didn't always need to be said. They didn't always have to win. She sighed and let them go, as well as her hands, and smiled up at her twin with her mother's beautiful magenta eyes. "Let's do something fun today! You can tell me all about what happened sometime else. I just want a fun day with my sis and her girlfriend." She nodded and then blinked, looking around. "Speaking of which... where's Suzuki?"

Rico smiled and would brush Avy's hair behind her ear, stroking her cheek and keeping her calm as she still held her. "I know... I'm sorry I couldn't see you or talk to you during that time. But the government is smart when they want to be. I couldn't just come by for a visit." She smiled lightly, and rubbed Avy's shoulders briefly to giver her some more reassurance before she let go. "I'm very proud of you Avy... thank you."

Avy said she wanted to do something fun, and that she would hear about their time out later. Then she asked where Suzuki was. "She's out doing hero stuff right now," she admitted. "I was a little hesitant, but it's not like this is something we haven't been doing already. We can just have some fun on our own! She'll be back later," she said with a smile.

Avy nestled into her sister's hand as she stroked her cheek so sweetly. She wasn't sure how it was possible but, even though they were the exact same height, Avy always felt so much smaller in her twin's presence. Probably had something to do with her mindset but, right now, it felt nice. When Rico said that she was proud of Avy, the red head's eyes sparkled and she smiled adoringly. It felt nice to be told that, especially when she was in the right space to actually believe it.

When Rico told her what Suzuki was doing, her eyes immediately went wide, but relaxed as Rico kept talking and she sighed, nodding with understanding. Then it was time for stage two of their time together! Avy's eyes lit up again and she grinned, taking Avy's hands in her own. "The world is our playground!! What should we do?? We could go see a movie. Or go to the park. Or go play mini-golf. Or go to an amusement park!! Or we could just stay at home and play video games and eat pizza... Whatever sis wants!!" The younger twin grinned excitedly awaiting her sister's answer.

Rico smiled lightly. It was wonderful to know that Avy was alive and well, and to see her in such a good mood, too! Even though she needed space from her sister somethimes, the hiatus from heroing while she and Suzuki were hiding from the government made her miss her sister dearly. She was content to spend any amount of time with her, really. But since she had to decide, she thought for a moment.

"Well... Suzuki and I have done a lot of laying low while we were gone. So I'd enjoy some time away from home. But I also don't feel like doing much since we're settling back in. And if Suzuki comes home, she still hasn't gotten her new phone yet. So video games and pizza it is!" She pulled up their favorite pizza place on her phone, and then dialed. When they picked up, she smiled lightly over to Avy to see what she would want on it. She knew Suzuki would want some roma tomatoes, so she had those put on as well.

Avy was trying her best not to calculate how long she should stay before giving her sister a break already. It had been so long that she decided she would just stay until Rico told her to leave or until something came up. That was something that was deserved every now and again, right? She nodded to herself and exhaled a little sharply. Rico would recognize it as her way of trying to push away an intrusive thought in her head. Sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't. When the younger twin looked up though, with a genuine smile, it was easy to tell that she had won this one.

She listened to her sister process what they should do and nodded in agreement. "It's not like you're going anywhere else anytime soon so maybe we can all three go out on an adventure together sometime later!!" She smiled sweetly and giggled. "Looks like we're having a Dad night sooooo..." The girl walked to the living room while Rico ordered the pizza. When asked what she wanted, she just yelled out "black olives!!" as she dug around for the video games she wanted and walked back to her with a grin. "MK11, Diablo 3, or Final Fantasy Dissidia NT~??" Their father's favorites. Go figure. Rico would also know though that Avy's favorite to play was DOA 5.

Rico smiled gently as Avy seemed to have one of those moment, and then kissed Avy on the forehead when she overcame her doubt. "Sure! I'm sure she would love to do that. I've missed you terribly," she said after the pizza was ordered. She walked to the couch and sat on it while Avy went through the options of games that they could play, and surprise surprise, she picked their dad's games. He would always play them with the twins when they were growing up, though obviously some of those games were in their earlier sequels at the time.

"Hmm... we can play against each other later. Let's play co-op for now! So we can either go kick some people's asses online with Dissidia, or we can conquer all the PVE of Diablo. Which of those sounds better to you?" She smiled brightly to her sister. This felt nice.

Avy felt the kiss on her forehead and smiled gently, knowing exactly what it was for. She heard the two options and thought for a moment about them before grinning, putting up the two they wouldn't be playing and putting in the one she had picked. The Final Fantasy start-up happened across the screen and she giggled. "I thought it'd be nice to have a real challenge against real people~ Kind of like fighting crime!" She smiled at her sister and sat down beside her.

When was the last time they had done this? It felt good to just hang out like this. She was fighting all of her natural instincts to just stay in the moment with her sister. Again a slight exhale that she smiled after. It may have been twice in just a few minutes, but she won both times and was definitely doing better. Next step would probably to go see an actual therapist... but they could talk about that later too.

Suddenly, Avy blurted out. "You know what would make this day perfect?... Alcohol." She giggled, half joking.

She smiled lightly to her sister as she chose Final Fantasy Dissidia NT. "Great! It's been a while since we played this one." She went to set up a 3 on 3 match. "Let's hope we get paired with someone good enough that we can still win!" As Avy would know by now, Dissidia NT had 38 characters, split into four classes; Vanguard, Assassin, Marksman, and Specialist. 10 of the characters were DLC content, but Rico had them all. Rico waited to see what class Avy and their paired teammate would pick as usual, because she enjoyed playing multiple characters of each class.

Vanguards were the tanks, Assassins were the speedsters, Marksmen were the ranged fighters, and Specialists had skills of their own. While Vanguards, Assassins, and Marksmen followed a Rock, Paper, Scissors kind of system, Specialist laid outside of that cycle. Their teammate went and chose Yuna from Final Fantasy X, a Marksman. "We could get some drinks going! But maybe after a game or two," she laughed lightly. She was glad their teammate took Marksmen; while she was fine with Marksmen, she was much better in everything else.

Avy nuzzled into her sister on the couch as they got their match set up and she nodded. "I'm sure that whoever it is, we can carry them!!" Wow! She actually said, "we" instead of Rico. That was a definite improvement from past experiences. Rico knew that her sister would always put all of the praise on her and not on herself. She had really grown during their time apart it seemed.

The redhead looked at the screen and decided to go with Tifa for this round, liking the assassin for a multitude of reasons. Two of which happen to be resting on her body. She smiled over at Rico as she selected her character and nodded in agreement. "Sounds like a good plan, sis!!" She got ready for the match by googling Tifa's move sets really quick on google. What!? It had been a long time.

Rico smiled brightly over to her twin when she actually displayed some confidence in the both of them. It was rare, and she was very proud of her in that moment. She watched as Avy went and selected Tifa. She was an Assassin! So that meant she could comfortably play Vanguard. She found herself looking at Cloud for a moment, but then she smirked lightly and picked Sephiroth. She was in a Sephiroth kind of mood.

The game would be prepared as the enemy team chose Shantotto, Kain, and Kam'lanaut. Characters that Rico never really liked or identified with, so she shrugged, and grinned. This was gonna be a slaughter.

And she was right! Avy and Rico were quick to kill the other three, and their teammate was basically a support. But supports never really do anything anyways, right? As soon as they were done with the first match, Rico gave Avy a high five and then went to the door as the pizza came. "Thank you!" She had paid for everything online, so she brought back the two pies for them, grinning to Avy.

Avy wasn't just confident in her words, she actually played the game with more confidence than usual as well. It seemed that their time apart had really helped her boost her self-esteem. She had to rely on herself completely and had managed to stay alive, so she was feeling good about herself. Plus, she was also trying really hard not to fall into the traps inside her mind.

When they beat the team so quickly, Avy giggled as the two high fived and smiled when she heard the doorbell ring. As Rico went to grab the pizza, Avy turned upside down on the sofa and posted something on her Instagram. She had taken a picture of Rico as she walked away and captioned it happily. 'Spending some much needed quality time with the Sis!' She had quite a following on that platform and TikTok that she definitely didn't have before Rico left.

As Rico came back, she sat up again and hugged her tight before grabbing a piece and stuffing her face. "We should do this, like, twice a month. Just the two of us and Suzuki when she's available!!" The redhead grinned and took another piece happily.

Rico beamed as she brought the pizza back to her sister and grabbed a piece to eat with her as she took her seat. She chomped into her piece while Avy said that they should do this again every once in a while with Suzuki included. "Of course! She's really missed you, Avy." When Avy looked good and ready, she would queue up another match.

She smiled over to Avy. "So, what have you been doing in the meantime? I know you must have been worried... but did you get anything accomplished? Found a cutie yourself?" she asked with some playful nudges. When they got queued up for another match, she selected Cloud this time. A Vanguard. She wasn't sure what the other team was going to play, but with Avy there, she was equally sure that it wasn't going to matter.

Avy blinked at the news that Suzuki had missed her. She finished chewing and swallowed loudly before exclaiming her surprise at the statement. "R-really!? I always thought she just thought of me as your annoying twin sister that wouldn't stop clinging to you..." The girl blushed brightly in embarrassment at that kind of talk and gulped before exhaling slowly. "I-I mean... I'm happy to hear that." She giggled lightly and shoved the pizza back in her mouth before she said something else idiotic... No. Not idiotic. Umm... Wrongly perceived? Was that the wording? Something. Either way, something she needed to think a little more about. She was still working on her thought processes after all.

The girl was brought out of her internal monologue by more questions that she smiled at, getting her phone out with a grin. Her eyes glowing violet with pride in herself. "I've been getting into some stuff. I have over 50k followers on TikTok and almost that many on Instagram and Twitter too!! I've been streaming on Twitch recently too and have about 10k followers on there... It's how I'm paying my rent at this point!!" She giggled and showed a couple videos. "I'm most well known for my... my Rainbow cosplay... and Wrath too." She blushed lightly and giggled. "No cutie of my own yet though... but that's okay!" She grinned and grabbed her controller as the next match was set.

This time she played... insert marksman here. Not that it mattered. They were going to blow the opposing team out of the water no matter what or who else was on their team.
