Today was quiet. Peaceful. Suspicious. Riot had been fighting crime ever since he'd escaped his parents. In all that time, there was rarely a completely peaceful day. He flew over the city, admiring the view. He really did like it here, and soaring above the buildings led to quite the breathtaking view.

Soaring past the downtown area, Riot slowed down and dipped lower as he approached the park. Something about the peaceful tranquility of the park always calmed his nerves, so he wanted to take in as much of it as he could before the inevitable emergency.

As he flew, he thought he saw someone he recognized. However he was going too fast to be sure even after his earlier drop in speed. He circled around to be sure. Yes, that had to be her. No one else had a red tail like that. Or acting so strangely. It appeared as though she was sprinting around on all fours, seemingly at random. One moment she'd dive after something, then with bewildering speed she was back on all fours and chasing something again. Riot tilted his head to one side. Was she… chasing squirrels?

As he made another pass, he noticed that her tail was coiled around a box. The same one he'd seen her holding out to the other individual the last time he'd seen her. He still had several unanswered questions about what had happened that day. Watching her, it seemed she wasn't evil, just… simplistic perhaps? Or was that the right word? Even his last approach had caused her to flee before, so he'd try something even subtler. At least as subtle as he could be in a seven foot tall mech suit.

He was curious about testing his theory and flew to a nearby hot dog stand. The man attending it gasped at the appearance of the imposing hero. When Riot offered to pay for the hot dog, the man refused. “You saved my niece. Yer money’s no good here.” Riot nodded his gratitude and flew off with the hot dog.

“LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN.” He said as he came to a graceful landing several yards in front of Miley that transitioned smoothly to him walking towards her. “I AM NOT HERE TO HARM YOU. I JUST WANT TO TALK.” He spoke slowly and deliberately, and after taking a few steps he lowered himself to one knee so that he wasn't as massively tall. He held out the hot dog as he did so, his other arm outstretched slightly with his palm up. This left his arm facing an angle to Miley’s side rather than directly at her and it was meant to show that he wasn't planning on using the guns mounted on that arm. “THIS IS FOR YOU.”

Miley fumbled a bit as she tried to catch the squirrel which caused her to roll on the ground a bit but she got back up on all fours smiling brightly as she pounced at the squirrel giggling before she flopped on the ground and slid a bit as she failed to catch them again and knocked her glasses off her face. The squirrels then hopped on her head in victory as she spotted the giant blur of the man. She sniffed the air and her head perked up a bit as the squirrels scurried off from her moving as she smelled the food.

She eyed the blur as it sounded like the scary metal monster that shouted at her before! or at least it sounded like he was to her before. She slowly moved into a sitting position as she looked up at him curiously and with pure innocence in her face as she saw the blur mooshing together a bit more. She gently grabbed onto his hand as he held out the hotdog and sniffed it before biting at it and slightly got his finger make her shake her head a bit at the taste before trying again and biting the end of the hot dog and fulled it from his hand with her teeth.

As she pulled back with her entire torso making her flop on her back as she grabbed the hot dog with her hands letting her glasses lay beside her still. She rolled onto her side as she ate the food then used her legs to kick at the ground to rotate herself to face him again while not even getting up off the ground and looked up at the blur of a man with curious eyes as she ate her hotdog with both hands getting crumbs all over herself.

Riot watched as the girl went straight for the food. It seemed that his theory had paid off. He rose an eyebrow at the glasses on the ground. He didn't remember her having those the last time he'd seen her. Maybe they'd been in her box? He wondered just how bad her vision was. He didn't have long to wonder as she accidentally bit the tip of his finger while trying to bite the hot dog. She seemed too graceful for that to have been a clumsy mistake. Was she really that blind? He looked at the glasses on the ground before picking them up with his free hand.

Meanwhile, the girl had used her mouth to pull the hot dog from his hand. Apparently, she'd overcorrected and ended up flopping on her back. He watched as she rolled around and kicked her legs to face him again. He couldn't help but smile. Despite his concerns about this girl, she was extremely adorable in the way only the childishly innocent could be. That thought resonated with him. A child. She had been running around chasing squirrels and now was happy to accept him because he'd given her food. Even now, there was no suspicion in her gaze as she eyed him: only curiosity.

He chuckled before speaking again. “HEH-HEH, YOU'RE NO MONSTER ARE YOU?” He spoke as softly as he could, however his suit was designed for intimidation and not gentle speech. As such it was still a little above normal speaking volume. He held her glasses up to his helmet to look through them. "OH WOW. YOU'RE PRACTICALLY BLIND. NO WONDER YOU RAN. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT I MUST LOOK LIKE TO YOU." If she let him, he'd gently place her glasses on her face, given that her hands were full. If she shyed away, he'd simply hold them out to her.

Curious as to how correct his guess was, he spoke again. “DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?” Assuming she indicated that she could, he would follow with his next question, unless of course she rendered it moot by speaking: “CAN YOU SPEAK?” Riot found himself intrigued by this strange girl. Where had she come from? Who had abandoned her? How was she living now? He frowned at the idea of something so innocent being left in the streets.

She saw him reaching out to her and saw the familiar blur of her glasses and reached out grabbing at the air until she grabbed the side of them and with Riots held she slid them on her face before returning her hand to the last half of her hotdog and looked up at him blinking a bit as she looked at him with more curiosity now that she could see him. He seemed to be asking her a question of which she didnt know what he said so she tilted her head and arms to one side as she kept eating to tell him she couldn't understand him.

She finished her hotdog then and got back up and got on two legs showing off how much he still dwarfed her as she wondered around him curiously. He might notice that her box looked metal but also looked of 100s of years old and made of some black metal. She then jumped up and if he let her she would start to climb on his side like he was a toy while smiling brightly. if he moved he would find her still having decent balance as she would try and got on his back to perch right in between his shoulders by the base of his neck.

If she got there she would then place her box on the top of her head as her tail waved happily before it blew away like a fire being blown out and her hair turned bright blonde and she gained some freckles on the bridge of her nose and cheeks. She then took off the jacket she worse showing off her green tank top. She then would tie it around her hips as she kept perching and looked around the park happily.

As Miley put her glasses on, Riot smiled within his helmet. “THERE. THAT'S BETTER, ISN'T IT?” He found himself frowning when she indicated that she couldn't understand him. He let out a sigh. I WAS AFRAID OF THAT…” Riot thought to himself as Miley finished her hot dog. She's obviously intelligent, she recognized that I was trying to communicate, and knew enough to know she didn't understand. Is she really on her own?

He eyed her box for a long moment, wondering just what it contained. It was a very strange item, though then again this was a very strange girl. It looked ancient. At least a century old, if not more. He'd need to run a series of tests to know just how old. And that metal… He knew of only a handful of metals that were completely black, and none of them had been around for particularly long as most were alloys. There was something familiar about it though. Something just under the surface of his mind. Why did it look so familiar? He knew he'd seen something similar before, but for the life of him he couldn't remember where.

He was torn from his thoughts as Miley suddenly jumped to her feet and started to climb him. He let out a chuckle, genuinely amused. “OH-HOH? AND WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?” He tried his best to follow her with his gaze. She was a nimble one, and deftly climbed him without needing any help, however had she needed it he'd have done so without even thinking about it.

He looked up at her as she balanced the box on her head and waved her tail happily. He couldn't help but smile. Such innocence was a rarity in these times. His eyes widened when she suddenly transformed, and he cursed his luck that he couldn't ask her about it. “CURIOUSER AND CURIOUSER…” He mused aloud. He watched as she tied her hoodie around herself then looked around happily. “YOU LIKE THE HEIGHT, DON'T YOU?” Riot slowly rose to his feet so she could see even higher. “HOW'S THIS?” At this point, Riot was talking more for her to get used to his voice than to actually communicate. Though perhaps she'd eventually start picking up on what he was saying.

She smiled down at him hearing his chuckle, she was glad that he was just as happy as she was about her being up there. She then lightly held onto his shoulder as he stood up and kept smiling as she looked around even further. when he was fully up she slowly stood up on her two legs as she looked around the area happily.

She should think of something fun for them to do together! She thought for only a moment before thinking of something and started to perch on one of his shoulders and took a deep breath in before blowing out towards the ground covering a large area with multiple inches of snow. She smiled before front flipping off his shoulder and caught her box mid flip and landed in the snow.

She then poked her head above the snow with a smile as she laid in the snow like it was warm water rather than cold snow that was pressed up against her. She waved him over to tell him to join her as she sat up and started to make snow balls happily as she bounced a bit while sitting there. She let the box sit in the snow beside her as she stacked her snow balls on it

Riot couldn't help but smile as she smiled down at him. She was enjoying herself. Or perhaps happy that he'd laughed. It was a universal sign, after all. He watched as she crouched down and blew, forming a sudden blanket of snow. Fascinating! he thought to himself as she flipped with impressive grace to land in her own snow. I wonder where the water comes from… Does she take it from the air, then freeze it? Does she expel it from her own lungs?

When she beckoned for him to sit down and join her, he did so without hesitation - enthralled by this strange girl who said more without any concept of speech than anyone else he'd ever met before. He plopped down next to her with considerably less grace and watched her as she began making snowballs. She seemed to be effectively immune to the cold. Very interesting. After a long moment he realized that she had a massive head start on him with her making snowballs. He'd just been sitting in the snow staring at her. He watched her work. He'd never actually made a snowball before.

He looked down at the snow then back up to her. He looked back down and scooped up a large chunk of snow in his hands. He tried to mold it into a ball, but even with the impressive amount of control he had over his gauntlets wasn't enough to keep him from making his lump of snow explode into dust rather than form a proper ball. He looked again at Miley and her pile of perfect snowballs. “YOU'RE WAY BETTER AT THIS THAN ME.”

She smiled brightly seeing him join her and showed him the snowballs excitedly as she made each one making slight noises that sounded like a child trying to speak when they didn't know any words yet. She giggled seeing him break one and walked on all fours to get closer to him before sitting down in front of him and grabbed a finger from reach hand with her whole hands since her were much smaller in comparison to his.

She then brought them together and held up a single finger to tell him one moment as she grabbed a scoop of snow and put it into his hands and gently formed a giant snowball that could fit his hand. She then smiled up to him as if asking if he liked it after resting her hands in her lap as she sat with crossed legs.

If he liked it she would bounce and clap before flopping on her side and rolled around a bit to flatten out some snow and got back up now covered in snow as she pointed to the area as it to tell him he could put his snow ball then before grabbing another scoop and held it out to him with a bright smile and with eyes full of joy.

As Riot sat with the strange girl and listened to the sounds she made the same thought as before resonated within his mind. Child. It seemed as though she was capable of speech, but she simply didn't understand any language. Had no one taught her? The idea seemed absurd to Riot. Had she grown up and never learned to speak? That also seemed odd. If she was as old as she looked, she definitely would have picked up at least a little on her own. What if she wasn't as old as she looked? What if she started out this old? What if she didn't know any language because she hadn't had the time to learn one? That was the strangest answer, but also the most logical. So she was likely a clone. Or perhaps she'd grown up normally, but had her memories erased. If she was a clone, then of who? If her memories had been erased, then why? He eyed her box for a moment. Perhaps it held the answers.

He snapped out of his thoughts when Miley grabbed his hands and brought them together. She made a snowball for him and he smiled. He met her gaze as she smiled up to him. It seemed as though she wanted to know if he liked it. He nodded. “IT'S VERY NICE. THANK YOU.” She responded with an adorable display of joy before rolling around in the snow. He rose an eyebrow as she got up all covered in snow and laughed. He put the snowball in the clearing she’d made and looked back to her as she handed him another blob of snow. This gave him an idea. She was obviously smart enough to learn a language, perhaps he could help her do so.

He took the snow she offered and pointed to it. “SNOW.” He shifted the snow she'd given him to one hand and with his other, grabbed a chunk from the ground and held it up so she could see. “SNOW.” He dropped it reached out and plucked some from her hair and held it so she could see, just like before. “SNOW.” He watched her intently, hoping she would catch on. He pointed to the snow on the ground and repeated himself. “SNOW.” He began trying to make a snowball out of the chunk she'd given him. He was a little more successful because it didn't explode, but it was very lumpy and uneven. He held it out to her. “SNOW-BALL”

She noticed him looking at her box, maybe he knew what it was! Shed have to ask him to find out though. She though focused then on the snow and heard him sound happy and nod making her bounce excitedly now knowing that he liked it before rolling around. She blinked as he pointed to the snow and sniffed it at first when he named it thinking he was saying something wrong with it.

She started to slowly stick her tongue to poke at it with her tongue to see if it tasted funny or something before her swapped it to his other hand, she then looked to the new snow he grabbed it and eyed it as he said the same word again before looking to the snow he pulled off her finally catching on to what he was doing.

She took the snow ball and looked from it to him as she gently held it like one would a small animal and slowly spoke out she clearly trying to mimic his accent, tone, and pitch exactly as she spoke. "Ssssnnnnuuueee.... snnnuue.... snnuuuooohh. snnoooooh.... snnooow... sn-ow... snow?"

She said the last one like a question looking up to him to ask if she said it right. she looked from the snow ball to her box before placing his snow ball by his other one and grabbed her box before holding it out to him as if asking him what it was looking at him with big puppy dog eyes.

Riot watched with a smile as Miley poked around at the snow, at one point even sticking her tongue out to taste it. Come on… you can do it… just piece it together… he thought to himself as she looked at the snow. When she spoke he practically jumped with joy. “YES!” He cried as he threw a hand into the air and leaned back, his head facing the sky. He quickly cleared his throat and lowered his voice and hand.

“AH-HEM, SORRY. BUT THAT WAS VERY GOOD!” He nodded as he spoke, so she would be able to understand what he meant. Then something hit him. She was talking very strangely. That was to be expected given that it was her first time talking, but something was almost too strange with her voice. As if she was louder than she needed to be. It almost seemed like she was try to imitate a robot… He had to stop himself from facepalming for fear that she'd think she did something wrong. She'd never spoken before. So she was imitating him.

He chuckled as she held out the box. He would have to do something about her imitation first. He held up a finger to tell her to wait a moment before he put the snowball down. He grasped the sides of his helmet and gently pulled. There was a soft Ssssshhhhk-klik as the seals disconnected. He was a little hesitant to remove his helmet, but there was nobody else anywhere near them and he didn't have another option to use a normal voice. Not unless she had a radio he didn't know about. Besides, he felt like he could trust her - she was innocent and sweet.

As his helmet came off his long golden ponytail spilled out, flowing along the collar of his armor. His skin was pale, and his eyes were an uncharacteristically golden hue for a human, almost matching his hair color. “This should be a bit better.” He smiled warmly and set his helmet down before holding his hands out for her box. Assuming she let him take it, he would gently turn it over in his hands, inspecting it closely. What could be in there? he wondered. Could it be the secret to who she is? To why she's in this child-like state? And this metal… Where have I seen this before?

He quite suddenly realized that she was still staring expectantly at him. He looked at her and those puppy dog eyes practically melted him. He couldn't help but smile. “Box.” There was far more to it than that, but for now it was probably best to keep things simple. “Baw-khs.” He repeated the word, carefully pronouncing the word for her. He held it out for her. “Box.”

Miley blinked at his sudden shouting but smiled and mimicked his movements and tried to copy what he said then thinking it was a game now. "YUS!" She smiled brightly to him as he spoke and nodded sounding pleased, she was so winning this game.... clearly why else would he be so excited? She then blinked at him holding up a finger but lowered her bock and tilted her head to one side to watch him curiously.

She blinked and gasped thinking he was trying to rip his own head off. She reached out putting her box down and grabbed onto his bicep of one arm but only really managed to dangle off it. She looked worried before blinking seeing he had a 2nd head! Her mouth dropped as if a "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat" should be coming out she now clearly showing that she thought the helmet was his actual head.

She then curiously climbed onto his arm and over to his face before poking it holding the same expression as she picked up and dropped his hair as if seeing if it was real before climbing back down and poked at his helmet before picking it up and pitting it on her head curiously then took it off then put it on then well kept doing this for a few moments until he spoke and scurried back to her old spot with the helmet wobbling on her head since it was far to big for her head and sat back down and grabbed the box and held it out to him letting him take it before shifting the helmet up a bit to see out of it better looking up at him as he looked it over.

She lifted up the helmet a bit more to have it tilted back but resting barely on her head that normally would fall off anyone else. She smiled at his smile but blinked when he said box and then slower for her as he held it out to her. She frowned a bit as she took it and looked down to it. "Baaaawkhs...." She let off a near sad whimper as she looked at it and opened it up. He told her its name but she didnt know at all what it was still wand why it was so important... she was starting to feel like she would never know.

If riot could see inside the box by leaning forward to look he would see a holder that was meant to hold a thin vial horizontally but there was no vial. There also would on the bottom of the inside in front of the holder would be carved in runes that looked like dots and slashes combined together to form 3 collective groups of runes that were crazy long in length She pouted a bit as she traced the runes with a thought filled face, it seemed not even she knew what they meant.

Riot chuckled as Miley mimicked his shout. This was going so well! He couldn't remember the last time he'd smiled so much. He rose an eyebrow as she grabbed his bicep, almost as if she was trying to keep him from removing his helmet. It clicked a second later. She probably didn't know what a helmet was. She probably thought that he was a big metal man and had no concept of the possibility that it was a suit. She certainly had much to learn.

Riot watched with a smile as Miley expressed her surprise at seeing his face. He let her poke at him and at his hair as she put two and two together. He watched with amusement as she put his helmet on and took it off over and over again. The inside of the helmet would smell very strongly of Riot, and slightly of sweat. There were several bumps that were on the inside, about where his mouth would be. If she poked at any of them, they would click in until released, like heavy buttons. Since the helmet was disconnected from the suit, the HUD wasn't there and the buttons did nothing. She could still see out of the helmet the old fashioned way however.

“Baaaawkhs….” She sounded so sad. Riot’s concern was apparent on his face as his brow furrowed slightly, his lips pursed, and he chewed a little bit at the left corner of his mouth. “Hey… It's alright…” He began, his voice gentle. He instinctively leaned in to try to help her feel better and saw the interior of the box as he did so. He wasn't sure what it was, but to him it was merely a mystery. To her it was so much more than just that. This box was the only clue this poor girl had as to who or what she was. And she was left with no way to even express what she wanted so desperately to learn. Riot felt a pang of sadness as he remembered his own upbringing. His heart went out to Miley as he looked down at her.

He gently put a hand on Miley's shoulder as best he could considering how small she was. He knew that even if he had something to say to her, she wouldn't understand it so instead he just smiled reassuringly and held out his other arm as if to invite her into a hug. He hoped that his expression and the gesture would get his message through: It's going to be alright. I'm here to help you.

At that moment, he resolved to help her. He wasn't sure where he knew the metal from, but he had an idea of who might know more about it. In the meantime, he knew that he could help her at least learn to talk.

Miley looked at them curiously but before she could slowly move her finger up to poke them she dropped it deciding not to click them. When she heard him speak and looked up from her box then to him. She could tell he was trying to make her feel better but it wasn't really working since she couldn't even understand him.

She just looked back down bringing her knees to her chest as she rested her box on top of them before resting the bottom of her nose on the edge of it and looked into it sadly. She closed her eyes letting a tear drop roll down her cheek as she gripped the box a bit tighter making the box frost over a bit where she held and around her hands.

She looked up to him though keeping her head where it was as he held her shoulder. She saw his smile and offer for a hug so she gently closed the box and walked on all fours over to him and sat in his lap resting the side of her head against him as she started to hug him frosting over his armor every where she made contact with him. She reclosed her eyes as she held onto him and did so silently as she held onto him tightly.

Riot watched Miley as she looked at box with such sadness. But there was more to it than that. It was longing in her eyes alongside sadness. This girl had no idea what her purpose was, and in a cruel twist of fate the answers were right in front of her, completely undecipherable. He thought of his own situation - the exact opposite of hers. His purpose had been pounded into his head since the day he'd been born. It was a monstrous purpose he wanted no part of. So he'd rejected it and fled from it at the first realistic opportunity. He'd gone on to forge a new one of his own. However that wasn't necessarily an option here.

He pushed those thoughts from the back of his mind as Miley climbed into his lap and hugged him. He gently wrapped his arms around her and held her, speaking softly as he did so. “It's going to be alright… You'll find what you're
looking for… Someday.” He held her there for what seemed like an eternity, though it couldn't have been more than a few moments. Of course, if she started to move away before he let go, he'd let her.

As he pulled out of the hug, a thoughtful look crossed his face. He pointed in turn to the two things he'd taught her the name of. First to the snow. “Snow.” Then to the box. “Box.” Finally, he pointed to himself. “Riot. Rai-uht. Riot.” He'd wait a few moments to see if she caught on. If she didn't, he'd patiently repeat the process.
