| "For a millennium we meditated, to gain wisdom and power. Now you want to waste it following whims? No, Sister. We must use what we have to help, to bring benefit, otherwise, our lives were for naught."Mei Bai (left), with her sister Mei Qing (right)- Human Form:
- Half-Snake Form:
- White Snake (True) Form:
«««IDENTITY»»» Codename: White Snake Nickname(s): Mei, Baibai, "Snake", "Creepy Snake Lady" Age: Over 1000 years old. Apparently a teenager. Race: Colubrid Snake. Alignment: Chaotic Good. Is this a canon?: No.
«««PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION»»»
Hair Color: Black. (Bright blue with white streaks in Half-Snake form, replaced by bright blue feathers protruding from her head in White Snake form) Eye Color: Black. (Bright blue in both snake forms) Height: 5'1" as a Human, plus additional nine feet of tail in her serpentine form. In her true form, approximately 60 feet snout to tail-end length. Weight: 123 lbs. Other Traits: A tripartite shapeshifter, Mei Bai hatched as a tiny, white colubrid snake in a family of Chinese green colubrids. Over hundreds of years of meditation and spiritual growth, she grew in size as she grew in power. Presently, her true form is a colossal yet beautiful white scaled serpent with shining blue accents, blue eyes, blue scaly folds resembling 'hair', a blue forked tongue and contrasting dark-scaled underbelly.
After a thousand years of meditation, Bai gained ability to transform into a human, and takes the form a beautiful girl of Asian ethnicity, fair of skin and dark of hair, with kind, obsidian eyes, of moderate height and unparalleled beauty.
In order to use the bulk of her abilities, however, she must transform into her third and final, serpentine (half-human, half-snake) form. Her hair lengthen and turn a shade of crystal blue, her eyelids and irises turning a matching colour, her pupils becoming slitted. Her incisors grow into sharp fangs and she gains scales on her forehead, the sides of her face, and her forearms. Her body inferior to her hips transforms completely into a white-scaled serpentine tail about nine feet in length from her hips to tail-end.
«««SKILL SET»»»
Main Power Origins: Supernatural.
PowersSerpentine Shapeshifting and Physiology: Mei Bai was born, over a thousand years ago, as a colubrid snake in mainland China, gifted with supernatural energies not entirely uncommon, yet not exactly common, among the serpents of the East. Favoring a life of meditation and right action over blind, animal instinct, she evolved in intelligence, wisdom and power as the centuries went by. Upon reaching a thousand years of age and growth, she eventually gained enough magical potency to naturally transform into a human and a human-snake hybrid. She thus possesses three unique forms: a Human Form, a Half-Snake Form and a giant White Snake Form, the latter being her rarely seen, true form.
- Human Form Mei Bai takes the form of an extremely beautiful young female of Asian ethnicity. In this form, Mei Bai possesses the following powers.
- Serpentine Senses: This is the only ability Mei Bai possesses in her human form, and she retains it in all her forms. Bai, like many snakes, has an elevated sense of smell and can distinguish different scents from several meters away. She can also "see" radiant heat thanks to advanced infrared sensory organs located in her tongue. She can strike a warm target accurately even in the absence of light, and detect warm objects from several meters away. She can further enhance this ability by protruding her tongue and sampling the air.
Half-Snake Form Mei Bai transforms into a being halfway between a snake and a human, with her legs merging into a giant white snake tail, her hair bluish-white. Her eyebrows are replaced by a series of small scattered white scales which grow from her forehead, around her outer eye corners, to her cheeks, with smaller white scales growing from her skin. The rest of her features remain more or less the same, but have in them a bizarre white hue. Serpentine Musculature: As a serpent, Bai possesses a powerful musculature affording her incredible strength and speed. In this form she gains the proportional speed, agility, reflexes, durability and strength of a snake and can slither across surfaces at incredible speeds easily outclassing the limits of the finest human athlete, with her maximum reaching up to 80 miles per hour in short bursts. This holds in water as well, enabling her to swim at sustained speeds reaching up to 100 miles per hour. She can also lift up to a maximum of 10 tons using her tail, or up to 2 tons using her arms. She can utilize this speed and strength in various ways instinctual to a snake: she can propel herself at her opponent and strike them several times in the blink of an eye, or she can wrap her serpentine tail around them and crush them.
Venom: In her Half-Snake and giant White Snake Forms, Bai possesses lengthy incisors which she can use to bite a target and inject poison. Her venom is neurotoxic, causing a bitten living being to become progressively sluggish and tired as time elapses. Within half an hour after exposure, the bitten would be rendered unable to breathe and die of respiratory failure, unless treated with antineurotoxin antivenom.
Magical Resistance: Being a supernatural snake having lived over a thousand years, Mei Bai is attuned to the different kinds of magic existing in the world, both dark and light. While she cannot use magic herself, she can distinguish the effects of magic and sorcery from natural causes, and is far more resistant to magical illusions than an ordinary human. Her scales are particularly resistant to most magic-based energy attacks. White Snake Form: Mei Bai transforms into the legendary great white serpent of folklore, this being her true and natural form. This blue-eyed, blue-feathered and white-scaled creature both beautiful and majestic, reaching up to sixty feet from caudal to rostral end and several storeys tall. While this is Mei Bai's biological true form, at the culmination of her thousand years of meditation Mei Bai absorbed certain powerful natural energies in order to transform into a Human. Thus, in order to return to the White Snake Form, she must first release the energies she reabsorbed back into nature. That process is tedious and requires focused meditation, forcing her to sit still for an approximate ten minutes (five IC posts), in order to transform into her gigantic White Snake form without losing her intellect (for a forced instantaneous transformation in which she loses her intellect, see Realgar section in Weaknesses). In this form, Mei Bai possesses all of the abilities of her previous forms described above, increased in proportion to her size (with the exception of speed; in this form, she is not extraordinarily fast, but she is insanely strong because of her size).
Skills
- Chinese folk medicine: Mei Bai possesses vast knowledge of traditional Chinese folk medicine. Whenever she used to get injured as a snake (which was often), she would experiment with what herbs and combinations worked to accelerate her healing. She would learn which berries were poisonous, and which could be used to counteract poisons. She would even occasionally shadow a physician and observe them work, largely due to interest. Over the centuries, her folk-medical knowledge grew to doctorate level proportions.
- Sagacity: Being a thousand years old, and having endured much, especially as a snake, Mei Bai may resemble a teenager but she is incredibly wise and experienced. She is difficult to fool, and is usually the voice of reason in a group.
- Cuisine: Naturally, if one can brew medicinal potions, cooking is not too far off the bat, especially since women in traditional Chinese cultures were expected to cook and it was the first thing Mei Bai had to learn to pass off as one. She is a gifted chef and can prepare Asian delicacies that will delight your taste-buds.
Abilities
Most of her abilities stem from her powers, so nothing significant here.
Physical Weaknesses
- Realgar: Realgar is a sulfide mineral sprinkled around houses in China to repel snakes and insects, as well as being used in Chinese medicine. This is Mei Bai's kryptonite. If exposed to realgar in any form, she will suffer from weakness, dizziness and nausea, and being unable to move. The longer the exposure the weaker she becomes. Should realgar touch her bare human skin or should she be forced to consume small amounts of it in any way, she will lose her human form and intelligence and revert to her gigantic serpent form, and go on an insane rampage before falling unconscious. Direct consumption of large amounts can kill her instantly.
- Smoke: Possessing a highly-developed olfactory sense, Mei Bai like many snakes is hypersensitive to odors and fumes. One smell she and all snakes particularly dislike is smoke, and it can overload her senses and render her effectively blind if used with intent to that effect.
- Cold: Snakes being cold-blooded, Mei Bai is sensitive to extremes of cold. While this does not effect her much in her Human Form, the more serpentine she is, the greater she can be effected by cool temperatures. In her White Snake Form, being exposed to chilly environments or freezing temperature extremes can render her lethargic and, eventually, unconscious. This is also true for her Half-Snake Form, albeit to a lesser extent, her human half affording her greater resistance to cold temporarily.
- Shedding: Once every year, Mei Bai must revert to her giant serpent form and shed her skin. The process begins as an illness characterized by fever and nausea that she recognizes too well; she must then retreat far away from civilization and endure a week-long, excruciatingly painful process which drains her completely by the end.
Mental Weaknesses Nothing significant worth mentioning.
Equipment Nothing significant worth mentioning.«««CEREBRAL PROFILE»»»
Personality
Mei Bai is a gentle soul possessing a serene temperament. Immeasurably kind-hearted, she is inclined towards helping others in need and relieving the suffering of all those who suffer. Empathetic and kind, her spirit journey began because of the painful guilt she experienced when she poisoned the Snake Catcher that had tried to harm her sister, a guilt that still haunts her to this day.
That said, Bai is not a wallflower by any means. She is a natural predator, and if she has to show it, she will, and she will leave you crapping your pants. She can be ruthless, cunning and, if you push her, she will eat you whole. She does not enjoy any of it though, and the 'bad cop' of the pair was usually played by her sister, Mei Qing, when they were still together.
Mei Bai is ferocious in love, however. When she loves someone, as she does her sister, she will do anything to protect them. The concept of betrayal in love is something she neither understands nor has ever experienced, and so if she commits to someone she does so for life.
Mei Bai's most characteristic trait, however, is her tempered wisdom; a sharp contrast to Mei Qing who is impulsive and quick-to-rouse. Bai will think things through thoroughly before acting, and she will listen to her heart of hearts and try her best to do what is right, no matter how far-fetched the option might be.«««PERSONAL BACKGROUND»»»
Family Members: Mei Qing, "the Green Snake" (sister) Place of Origin: West Lake, Hangzhou, China
History
Mei Bai, the White Snake (left); with her sister, Mei Qing, the Green Snake (right) Mei Bai does not remember much of her earliest days. She recalls that it was the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period (907–979), the last great period of widespread political upheaval in China. She remembers her mother, a beautiful green snake, and she remembers spending her earliest days near the banks of the West Lake, where she also learned to swim and spent most of her hatchling days. Of the about hundred eggs that her mother laid in her litter, only one survived; her sister.
Mei Bai was always different from the rest of her family, and it was not merely due to the resplendent whiteness of her scales that stood in sharp contrast to the viridescent ones borne by her sister and her mother. As she grew longer, she learned to slither and stalk and kill, yet she always felt some kind of higher calling. She recalls confiding so to her sister, who professed her utmost love for her elder sister and assured the white snake of her support.
One day, the Green Snake was caught by a Snake Catcher. The White Snake stopped at nothing to try and get her sister back; she had to bite the Snake Catcher and poison him. While that helped the Green Snake escape, the White Snake saw while retreating with her sister that the Snake Catcher had a wife and a son, who were now left widowed and orphaned as a result of her poison. Seeing that, the White Snake felt an indescribable feeling well-up inside her that was all-consuming, yet that, for the life of her, she could not fathom.
Thus, the White Snake confided to the Green Snake that she wished to understand herself truly and pursue the higher calling that she had so often felt. They began to communicate with spirits, and sought to learn their ways. It was a long road, and one of intense discipline, but as time passed and their powers grew, the white and green snakes eventually evolved more and more in sapience. Eventually, the White Snake and the Green Snake sought refuge in the caves of the highest peaks of Zhangjiajie, where they began to meditate for the ensuing centuries. Various truths unfolded, and eventually, the White Snake had a name for the feeling that had driven her journey centuries prior; an emotion, one that Humans called 疚 jiù (guilt).
Eventually, the White and Green Snake spirits grew bigger and longer due to their increasing age and vitality. The White Snake much more so than the Green Snake, took on a massive form reaching over sixty feet from head to tail, with a single fang the size of a human being. While she tried her best to remain in hiding high up in the mountains, there were occasional sightings, and the Legend of the White Snake, became a local folktale.
Eventually, at the dawn of the twenty-first century, the White Snake attained human form. A year of further meditation later, the Green Snake followed. They were now two beautiful young women, fair-skinned and dark-haired. Together, they descended Zhangjiajie and entered Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, to discover how the world of Man had changed over the centuries that they had remained in isolated meditation.
It was indeed a different world; for one, kings and emperors had been replaced by presidents and prime ministers. And what the heck was a Communist Party?
The Snake Sisters took on human identities: adopting the family name Mei (美), meaning 'Beauty', the elder took the name Mei Bai (美白), 'White Beauty' and the younger, Mei Qing (美青), 'Green Beauty'. The two tried to fit into the strange new world they found themselves in, but humanity had become even stranger than it was during the Imperial era. Fitting in was difficult. In order to be human, they had to go to 'school', for one thing.
Qing, bold as she was, simply suggested to ignore the peculiar new systems in place and live as they saw fit. Yet Bai firmly believed that it was wisdom to learn the new customs of humanity and use their powers to help them. They had spent a thousand years attaining this level of intellect and if they were to spend it using their powers in vain, what was the point of it all?
Mei Bai also saw that they had powers far beyond what any ordinary human could dream of. On the peculiar magical box, which she later learned was called a TV, she saw that in Humanity too there were others of extraordinary power like them. Some used these powers to harm others, yet others used them to do the opposite, and the thought appealed to Bai. So, Bai and Qing began to use their powers to help others. Changsha received two new superheroines overnight.
It was not to last.
The Order of Assassins, an ancient and powerful secret society of assassins that were distantly related to the more famous League of Shadows, had taken in interest in the serpentine heroines of Changsha city. Somehow knowing they were immortal snakes, the Order sent assassins to capture the two girls while they were still weakened from their yearly shedding. Mei Qing was captured, and Mei Bai, despite her weakened state, attempted to spring her. In the battle that followed, the well-informed Order used realgar to force Mei Bai into her natural, gigantic White Snake Form. The insane White Snake went berserk around Changsha and caused massive amounts of destruction, before she was subdued and captured by the Order.
As a side effect of the trauma, the sedatives, and the experiments that were done upon her in captivity, the gigantic she-serpent repressed much of her memories and forgot who she was beyond her name. In this state, the giant she-serpent was transported by the Order of Assassins all the way to the USA, where in Jump City she would become a tool for them to further their ancient agenda...«««Sample RP»»» No. I'm not doing this again.
