A Light on the Mesa (Open)

She awoke in flames. The dancing fires licked up at the air from her hands and feet, leaving little trails of ash and glowing embers as she walked. Anyone who looked upon the flaming figure would have been frightened, with hair transformed into flames reaching towards the night sky, and eyes that had lost their irises and pupils, giving way to a smooth slate of luminescent yellow. Any normal person definitely would have been frightened of her; XiFeng was frightened of herself.

Her mind felt detached, floating above the stream of conscious feeling and thought that so familiarly defined herself. Reality was on the other side of a lucid wall, and logic seemed to be lost in the separation. XiFeng didn’t know where she was going. She supposed that didn’t matter anymore, there really wasn’t anywhere to go. Just like her floating mind, and surreal transformation, XiFeng decided that she was simply a floating light. A little lonely light on the mesa.

Patrolling, boring boring patrolling, the city's most amazing and charismatic hero, not really, was on the beat. His name was Kane Landy, but he was better known as his alter ego, Kicker. Now, Kicker was walking the streets of Jump city, but he wasn't walking the street in the traditional sense, he was walking on the very air itself, high above every building below him. He had recently stopped a bank robbery and was feeling great, he was on a roll that he now had to continue.

Suddenly, somewhere near the mesa, there was a bright light, shining in the sky like a majestic star. A majestic star that was too close to earth, maybe Kane could kick it back where it belongs. But as he got closer, he noticed that it wasn't something that needed to be kicked, but it was in fact a girl, probably metahuman but in this city you never know. He walked over to her, using his mastery over the air to step on it Yo, what's with the light show?

Now XiFeng knew she was crazy. There was no way that she had been able to light herself on fire like this and not be hurt, and there was definitely no way that a boy could just casually walk on air. Relief washed over her. It must be a dream, just some terrible dream that she would wake up from and see her father at the doorway, announcing it was time to get up and get ready for her Carnegie Hall performance. XiFeng didn't know how to forcibly wake herself up from a dream, and pinching herself seemed silly, so she decided to humour her dream person.

"I haven't a clue." she chuckled, "For that matter, I have no idea where I am, what I'm doing here, or where to go."

The girl informed Kicker that the reason she had lit herself on fire was... she didn't know why... then she chuckled and said that she didn't even know where she was. Okay, that was a creepy sign, this girl was probably crazy, but Kane didn't let it show in his posture or his face, he was just that awesome. He brushed some hair out of his face that wasn't really in his face before he spoke Well, do you know how to turn it off? Maybe go down back to the ground?

Kyte looked out over the city, sighing. Over the many centuries he had been mellowing out, learning more and more how to control his anger. After all, he had been Wrath for an exponentially long time. He was tired of being angry for no reason. Some might think it was time for him to be replaced, but that was never a thing. He was always Wrath, and always would be.

As he was musing to himself, something caught his attention. Out towards the mesa outside of Jump City; a bright light, flickering. Flames. There was nothing out there that could really catch on fire, so it wasn't really a concern...but he decided to go investigate anyways. After all, his police scanner would let him know if there was any issues going on in the city.

He sprouted his wings and flew over. The moon was bright tonight, but still, a black figure flying through the sky shouldn't have been really noticeable.

Unless you were looking for that kind of thing, I suppose, he thought to himself, as he glided over to the fire on the mesa.
