Flux Update

Laura Nenecine Wainwright -- Flux
===IDENTITY===
Full Name: Laura Nencine Wainwright
Nickname(s): Nen, "Hey Cartwheels!", Coke-bottles, Lan
Codename: Flux
Alias(es):
Age: 16
Classification: Gamma-class mutant (her mutation offers her significant abilities, but is inherently flawed in a major way that affects her quality of life.)
Affiliation: Unregistered Titans

===PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION===
Hair Color: Blue-black
Eye Color: Blue (Formerly orange)
Height: Five foot five inches
Weight: 128 lbs
Other Traits: Nen's eyes used to be brown and she used to need large, round glasses to see properly - that changed when she became a mutant. If she gets flustered, her teeth, tongue, and inner skin (lips, eyelids, etc) turn a shade of blue and glisten and there emanates a scent of citrus. When transformed, when using her powers, she becomes a gleaming blue slime from head to toe that smells subtly of lemons crossed with patchoulie oil. Floating within her body is a darker mote - her core, the center of her being. It can be anywhere inside her body and move freely within. Everything else is homogenous - the same all the way through. She always retains at least a suggestion of her femininity - habit is a wonderful thing.

Slime form:

Human form:

===POWERS===
Powers:

Amorphous physiology - Her strange ability is that she has become amorphous in form, forgoing all anatomical human considerations for a very, very simplistic nature - somewhat like a gigantic single-celled organism! Her shape is completely up to her - she can appear humanish, as a puddle, lash out with tentacles, whatever she desires, and her body has only one single anatomical weakness - her core, a darker orange bit inside her that holds her sense of self, her consciousness. She doesn't need to breathe, but does need to drink, eat and sleep (or rather, rest - sleeping just happens anyhow. The only difference before and after the change was now she sleeps in a vat.)

--Gain/Lose mass - she can take on water and biomass (any biomass will do - leather, wood, meat, topsoil, whatever) and turn it... well, into more of herself, to grow! Or, she can give up water and biomass and shrink. Her maximum size is about 2400 gallons (that's 10 tons), and her minimum is 2 cups - her core's size.
--Remap - She can make herself look like her old self by forming skin, hair, rigid structure, clothes, that sort of thing, and if she has an image of the person in question or knows them well enough she can make herself look and sound like them. It won't stand up to serious prodding - an eye scanner, a fingerprint reader, that kind of thing - but it will fool a judgement based on looks alone.

Techniques:

    Octoparty!: She's gotten pretty good at using tentacles. It's a knack! She can concentrate on several at once with pretty good dexterity.Efficient Regulation: She's learned to gain and lose mass more smoothly. She can hold extra nutrients inside her body and simply take on more water, or retain the nutrients as she loses it.

Property control - She can alter the rules by which her slime behaves, changing its physical properties - stickiness, slipperiness, elasticity, viscosity, thin-ness, thick-ness, bio-luminescence, that sort of thing.

--State change - She can solidify or evaporate whole or parts of her body and retain control of them. When solid she's like crystal, when she's a vapor she's more like thick fog. She cannot willingly change the physical state of her core, which remains a thick gel-like substance (except as detailed in her weaknesses)
--Acid/Base - She can change her PH at will. She cannot go below the acidity of battery acid nor above the level of lye. Whatever change, it never changes her core. Another point: such a change causes her to react with other substances, effectively creating waste slime and using some of her substance up. Her core must maintain a neutral PH through this - normally this isn't a problem (she keeps it in a bubble of neutral protective slime).

Techniques:

    Gumgum: She's gotten good at an elastic semisolid state as a matter of practice.Jellyflash:  The jellyfish DNA that got mixed in with her own made her better at bioluminescence - it just comes more naturally now! She can create patterns of light in her body, or light bright enough to blind.

--

Nucleon- she can expel bits of herself and they'll retain the properties and shape she left them with because of 'nucleons' formed within. A nucleon is unchanging from the moment it leaves her main body - an inanimate object made of her substance - but it will send the continual instructions needed for her slime to hold shape and properties. Quickly formed nucleons last for seconds but if she took the time she could make one that lasts for hours or days.

--Slimebolts - she can attack with her slime, flinging goop for a variety of effects! She's flinging bits of herself to do this mind you...
--Slimeshapes - by controlling her properties and using Nucleons she can make structures of a sort. A big rolling ball of crystallized goo, a trampoline strung between a couple cars, a pool of acid, a ball of base-slime to neutralize said acid... That kind of thing!

Skills:

--Grappling: One word! Tentacles. For grabbing and putting a thug in a mercy hold you can't beat them. She has the edge every time in a fight where she can get you in her grip.

--Journalism: Laura has instincts about people and talent with a pen. She wants to be a journalist, one way or another, and her work with the school paper

--Investigator's Memory: Another skill she has honed is memory - Memorizing things, retaining short term information, and grasping details from a scene without diluting them with expectations or emotions.

--Practical Electronics: to fix up the communicators for the Titans after they decided to go rogue, she had to bone up on practical electronics! She's not an expert with a soldering iron and code, but she is functionally 'literate', and learns fast.

--Practical First Aid: She's picked up this and that, and studies. She's got the basics of first aid down to a science, she could set someone's bone, stitch up a wound, and has enough skill with her powers and hands to prevent infection.

--Basic Chemistry: With powers like hers, she's picked up a bit of practical chemistry. She knows, for example, what compounds her own body uses and how to get them, the interactions that make them work, and that sort of stuff. She's by no means skilled by any standard, but she knows some stuff!

Weaknesses:

--Her core is somewhat vulnerable. While also amorphous it can be cut and harmed, it is sensitive, can be harmed by extreme heat or cold, and stunned by electricity.

--Strong electricity messes with her, make her slime body freak out, lose shape, and it distrupts her concentration. As a liquid (base state) she is especially vulnerable. As a solid she is less glass-jawed to it (but still vulnerable), and as a gas she doesn't communicate a charge nor impede it.

--Heat makes it harder for her to hold a shape - it melts solid state and can force her into gas state. She is forced to gas at any temperature exceeding 2000 Fahrenheit.

--Cold makes it harder for her to stay amorphous, and can force her into solid state. She is forced to solid at -250 Fahrenheit.

--If you were to remove her core from her main body, her body would revert to dirty water instantly - and she would be helpless, capable only of limited movement - how dangerous is a six inch tall girl, I ask you?

--Destroying of removing a nucleon destroys what it was shaping, turning it to dirty water.

--While gaseous her body retains uniformity - each droplet is close to the others. If a droplet was separated, if she hit a fan and was dispersed, or by some other means was separated apart the separated pieces would become dirty water.

--While solid she is crystalline and vulnerable to shattering. Any part of her that shatters off is no longer part of her - it is just dirty water.

--The incident that fused her with some Jellyfish genetics made it a little trickier to become human-shaped again. It's no harder to maintain, but it takes longer to appear human, more effort to change herself that way.

--If her core is vaporized or frozen, it's not instantly fatal - it's *eventually* fatal. If made gaseous she needs to lose heat and condense quickly. It becomes harder and harder to retain her sense of self the longer her core is a gas. If she loses something, it's gone, folks. When frozen, she is comatose - completely helpless and insensible. If she were dropped or cracked or broken she'd be killed... Unless reassembled in exactly the same way of course...

--Her body can become acidic or base - her core cannot, nor can it withstand these conditions by itself.

--She is no longer human - even if she can make herself seem like one. She is incapable of reproduction, doesn't age, and all that other stuff you can do with a flesh and blood body.

--She is weaker as a gas - no stronger than the wind. She can hold herself together in natural wind conditions but she'll be blown about much, much more easily.

--As a solid she can't move, and the colder she gets the more sluggish she becomes.

--She can't actually fly as a gas - she sorta moves about like a fog. She can reach herself up and use that grip on something to pull the rest of herself upward, and her core floats free inside, but that's as far as it goes.

Equipment:

--She can be relied upon to have a well-stocked compact medical kit, a pen and paper, and her Titans Communicator at all times.

--Flux got a string of mystic prayer beads for defeating the Wuxia. She isn't yet aware of how to use it, but it does possess magical power of... some kind... she... thinks?
What it actually does:
.

--Flux has been developing a nutrient supplement for some time to help her use her powers more efficiently, letting her recover and regain lost mass more easily - like gatorade, for slime girls! With Hotwire's injector system, a single canister of it has two uses. She can be relied upon to have at least two such canisters of the stuff.

===PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE===
Personality:  Laura Nencine Wainwright is an honest young woman, and perhaps rarely these days she has integrity, she has standards, and she isn't out to 'make it big'. She's diligent, honorable and fair in all her dealings, and while she's a very hard-headed person sometimes (she has her skull on a shelf in a room to prove it!), she's generally good natured and chipper.

Laura was raised to believe in the american justice system, to think the truth is the most important thing, that contrary to what pop media would have you think, our justice system *does work* - bad-guys get put away when evidence of their wrongdoing is thrown down, no matter HOW good their lawyer is, or WHAT powers they have - justice can be found there. So as Flux, she strives to live up to the old-school, to save lives, to fight for truth, justice, and the rights of others, and to see that those who break the law get the fair shake the law requires - without rules there's no point.

But her work doesn't stop with her identity as Flux - she works on cases as Laura too, as a tenacious young journalist in the school paper that sends pieces in under a pen name to the city's paper and news station.

--The Zydon War: Flux's involvement in the Zydon war, the event that christened her as a Teen Titan, solidified her determination and courage into iron bars. She has nightmares of some of the things she's seen, and the things she's had to do, but she really earned her wings in that fight.

--The Registration: Flux's decision to become a rogue Titan in view of the Registration was a personal one, but her sense of duty remains unchanged. It's revealed in her own heart that she's not a heroine to please anyone - to be anyone's idol, or to get publicity. She's in this for the very people who reject her, to protect and serve even if that means she has to step outside the law to do it.

Strengths:

--She's very *sunglasses* Flexible. Seriously - she adapts well to changing situations.

--Nen is naturally a very compassionate person - she looks out for people.

--Flux is steadfast. When the going gets tough, when the chips are down, she stands her ground. The girl has backbone.

Interests/Habits:

Nen writes - like, constantly when out of her heroic role. It is her passion, what she LOVES to do.

===PERSONAL BACKGROUND===
Family Members: Mike Johnson (her stepfather), Janet Wainwright (aunt), Tyler Wainwright (kid brother), Joseph Johnson (her stepbrother, a bit older), Arguille Amici aka Chaos (Biological father)

Place of Origin: Cumberland, Nevada
History: Lan was a normal girl once, back in Cumberland, Nevada. She was never the most popular girl in school - back then she was a lot shyer, and ostracized - kids can be cruel. She had big glasses, she was flat as a board, and sure as anything nicknames like 'planky' and 'cartwheels' followed. Right around puberty (she hit it at 15) things began to change... But certainly not in the way they change for most girls. It started small - she began to find mysterious orange stains on her sheets and in the water in her showers. Her body was growing out, sure, but something... else... was happening too. She began to develop coldlike symptoms, and eventually doctors, completely baffled, diagnosed her with a form of bacterial pnumonia, and prescribed her some medicine they thought would help - and it did, too... For a while. She stopped waking up with orange sheets eventually, even, but little did she know... the medicine wasn't truly helping her.

For a couple months, things were fine - she just felt shaky sometimes if she didn't eat, and had coughing fits that sent up thick globs of orange-ish gunk. She got around her crippling shyness somewhat and was starting to make headway in those months, finally joining the school paper like she always wanted, but... Normalcy was never meant for her.

One day while babysitting her kid brother, She turned orange. Like... Brilliantly, fruit-orange orange. She didn't even notice until the boy calmly pointed it out to her! Sometimes, you panic when this kind of thing happens. Laura didn't - she took a shower, thinking she was sweating orange stuff like before. But... It wouldn't come off! She scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed, but all she accomplished was realizing that... She wasn't solid... And she'd taken on water.

As Lan stepped out of the shower, her leg just gave out from under her as she discovered it much, much slicker than before, and hit the ground not with a thud... but with a sploosh, her lower body losing all shape! And still she didn't panic... Not exactly - at that point, she was in the peaceful fields of denial. She was... turning translucent, and quickly. She looked up sharply as the door to her shower opened to reveal a wide-eyed Tyler, who held the house phone in one hand.

"Sissy, You're melting." He said, more like it was a point of fascination than worry. "Momma wants to talk?" He suggested gravely, his face wooden as a furniture warehouse. Lan tried to blink, and looked at her hand as she took the phone and put it to her ear, dazed as her world swam with orange.

"Y-yes mom...? I think... I think you should come home now please I'm melting." She said, dreamlike, and hung up. Then, she threw up her skull and bits of her spine. It was only THEN that panic hit her and crisis truly began!

One crisis later though (and once they'd caught little Tyler (who had his big sissie's skull and was protecting it under his pillow so the goopy monster went away), and after they called in a family friend/ their family doctor, they realized she was a) barring some obvious problems (like being stuck in the plugged up tub), alive and well (much to the relief of Laura especially!), b) she wasn't going to turn into water and just dry up or evaporate, c) she could still move after a fashion, and finally d) she was a mutant. Some things are fairly obvious when you're a sentient puddle and there's a doctor telling you them.

It took Laura a couple days to learn how to shape up again, a few days past that to remember how to walk, and a month or so to figure out how to grow skin again. It was wierd, sure, but the people who had the most trouble getting used to the idea was Ty, who kept prodding her with sticks and hiding her skull. (._. Little jerk...) And Laura of course.  But as it turns out she had the coolest parents ever - she just never knew it.

They were both metahuman rights activists. Who knew? Turns out... Lan's biological father, Arguille, was a mutant too, and this wasn't entirely unexpected... errrr... something like that, anyway - who can plan for a melting daughter? So with Lan's skull polished (and painted with lipstick and daisies and used as a bookend) on her shelf, she set out to learn to use her abilities as a Gamma-class mutant, and discovered them as flexible as she was. It takes a special kind of parent to put up with coming home to your youngest child stuck to a ceiling by orange goo singing the Canadian national anthem, buuuut... A little creative discipline with stern talks and a bucket cleared things right up.

What with one thing and another - little slips in public, changing eye colors, and other details, Laura couldn't return to her sophomore year. So, they moved! He-llo Jump City, California! And here she is. She's been here a couple weeks to move in, and now she's keen to try out her newfound powers! If her family found out they'd kill her... But a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

The Zydon War

When the Zydon came, Flux was thrown head-first into the conflict when they and the villain Quake tried to bring down the Jump City Bridge, and since then she's staunchly fought them. She took a few hits while teething from zydonian braves and Quake. During this time, during a routine patrol in downtown Jump as she experimented with using her powers as a mode of transit, she came across Hotwire in a spot of trouble involving a dino-riding cowboy with a mad science reanimation raygun! She jumped in, and with Hotwire's help, kicked him into the pokey!

The hero Brave set out a call for heroes to help him recover his father's legacy. He initially refused Flux's help, but the young heroine stowed away with the group on their trip to Russia. After saving Scapegoat from his boulder-y doom, she ascended the mountain to render aid! She ended up saving Brave's life from the Wuxia of water, letting the Brave escape deeper into the temple. She defeated the Wuxia, and helped Brave down the mountain afterward. After this, the Titans called her one of their own. She never received an official initiation, but come on folks - there was a war on.

Last, when the Zydon attacked the Tower, Flux stepped up to plate to battle the zydon martial artist Leejay Lefray. The battle was brief and Flux stood tall as the victor, taking the Zydon warrior as her prisoner.

The Registration

(Coming soon!)

Changelog:

    Marked her as a Titan

    I changed some details about her appearance, and her slime girl pic since she's blue now, as of the events of A New Goo.

    Added Octoparty (Technique) - She has been practicing (mentioned in Moving Out), and the events of A New Goo gave her a talent for this technique.

    Added Gumgum (Technique) - Flux has used this trick several times. the earliest use was in the battle against Quake on the bridge during the Zydon war, but she's done this quite a bit.

    Added Efficient Regulation (Technique) - Flux has been playing with nutrient supplements for her powers for a while now, mentioned in several threads. She's played with it quite a bit, and knows a trick or two now.

    Added Jellyflash (Technique) - Flux has always been able to produce bioluminescence with her powers, but getting one of those cute little Jellyfishes (A New Goo) mixed in with her DNA has given her a little more ability with that trick!

    Renamed Practical memory to Investigator's memory: Just seemed to make more sense to me.

    Added Practical Electronics: She's modified the titan communicators a bit, and that involved some bookwork on her part.

    Added Practical First Aid: She's demonstrated competence in this area several times, and it makes sense she'd have worked on this.

    Added Basic Chemistry: She had to do this to learn how to make her nutrient supplements

    Updated equipment list: To reflect her experience, affiliation, and to add the Nutrient Supplements.

    Updated Flux's history to reflect new events!

All good. Make that core more apparent in posts though when in goo form. I'd say mention it like you would mention someone swishing their hair is a good idea.

APPROVED.
