To describe Nicolas in as simple a manner as possible, one would have to describe him as being short and scrawny, very shrimpy and child like, and not very impressive at all. Nicolas stands at a scant five foot five inches and weighing in at one hundred and fifty pounds, one would think a stiff breeze would be able to knock over the diminutive teenager and they'd be wrong. Nicolas' arms are long and lean, possessing a decent amount of muscle for someone of his age. While his legs are of a normal size for someone his size, they possess a much stronger sculpted appearance, identical to those belonging to a person who's done years of long distance running. Several scars are visible along his arms, primarily along the biceps and backs of each forearm.

Tired and worn down, yet still possessing a formidable gaze, Nicolas' eyes are not the eyes of a child who knew peace and love and kindness, no. Those eyes of a solid intense gray, always alert and watchful should by all means belong to a man who's dealt with abuse and hatred. and truthfully Nicolas has dealt with these things so much that it had simply become a normalcy for him. The rest of Nicolas' features are strong and sturdy, with an angular jaw and high powerful cheek bones, coupled with a narrow chin that seemingly blends it all together smoothly.

Clothing wise, Nicolas wears an old pair of surplus military boots, the leather faded in certain areas, but kept in relatively good condition, the soles have worn down, the treads almost non-existent at this point while the laces have been replaced numerous times. Nicolas wears matching pair of military surplus cargo pants, several pockets are worn down and full of holes while the olive drab coloration has faded in certain areas giving way to a very light gray green color. A black tank, and the only article of clothing that looks even remotely brand new, is bright and crisp and hangs loosely enough off his body, that one would think you could fit two of him with room to spare. Finally his jacket, made from canvas and dyed a dull gray, it has several deep pockets and is surprisingly durable. It has no notable features or markings, being just a simple plain jacket. Finally Nicolas wears a pair of black fingerless leather gloves, the palms of which have small rubber studding to provide better grip.



Powers:

Prodigal swordsman - A prodigy is a person, esp. a young one, endowed with exceptional abilities. Nicolas possesses such exceptional abilities and from a young age, showed a great interest in swords and martial arts that focus upon such. Where some take would take years upon years to master any given art, Nicolas was already an expert by the age of ten, by the age of fourteen, he was a master in his own right. Having never seen a sword, let alone pick one up, it felt oddly familiar when he did, the weight, the length, even the balance, it was oddly familiar as if he was reuniting with a long lost friend. Nicolas talent is disputed as being either latent or some kind of genetic anomaly, not like a mutation because one cannot gain incredible talent and skill through mutation or it's something preternatural, something that's just beyond the normal scope and reason of normal human thinking.

Whatever it is, one cannot deny that Nicolas is as deft with a blade, as a soccer player is with their footwork.

Sonokinesis - The ability to manipulate sound waves. A particularly high level ability/mutation that with proper focus and understanding, can allow someone to preform helpful feats such as stimulating the bodies ability to heal with stimulating sound waves, or to encase themselves or others in a protective aura of sound. Nicolas' capabilities with Sound manipulation is rather limited, but powerful nonetheless. With the ability to encase himself, or another person, in a powerful aura or exoskeleton of sound to deflect and nullify attacks made against him or another. This is quite possibly his strongest defense ability and one that he can't use often or frequently, as it puts a severe strain on his voice.


Nicolas is capable of healing himself or others with sound waves. By utilizing a variation between high and low frequency sounds to stimulate the nervous system Nicolas is capable of activating the bodies ability to recover from injuries which depending on the person is rather strenuous, both for himself and the person he's healing, doubly so if he's using it on himself as the rapid alterations can tire his throat out after two uses and leave him physically taxed, as his body begins to consume stores of energy to repair any damage incurred.


Weapon infusion - Sonokinetic weapon infusion is the ability to infuse a weapon with sound waves or sonic energy. Nicolas' primary use for this ability is to empower his katana in various ways. Either by increasing the cutting edge by honing a sheath of sonic waves to the point that it could cut through the rolled homogeneous steel armor of a military tank or if lethality is an issue, he can wrap the blade in a dull sheath of energy that, while not as lethal, is still going to bring the pain due to the vibrations allowing it to strike far, far harder than what one would normally believe possible. To compare the force, the blow can be as hard as a heavy weight boxer's fist at the lowest or as hard as the physical impact of a wrecking ball.

On a side note, Nicolas is capable of releasing the sonic energy as waves of force. Known as razor wind. By focusing the sound wave until an edge is formed, he can release the energy itself as a directed long range attack, either as a slash or as an armor penetrating thrust.

sonokinetic combat - Sonokinetic combat is a unique trait of Nicholas that allows him to infuse his physical attacks with the various aspects of sound. Being able to use it in a manner that would empower his physical strikes or disorient his opponent by disrupting their equilibrium. Imagine for a moment, a simple punch hitting with the force of a mac truck. The person in question doesn't have superhuman strength, he has simply manipulated simple sound waves and shot them from his fist at the point of contact, similar to an explosion of force. Or perhaps a low frequency sound is released upon the point of contact, causing a destabilization in ones inner ear, causing a loss in balance, possible nausea or depending on how weak the person was to begin with, a state of unconsciousness. Nicholas could even focus the sound waves along his hands in a similar vein as his blade, allowing him to pierce hard surfaces with ease, letting him scale sheer surfaces that are made primarily of stone. The uses of sonokinetic combat are versatile and exist so that he's not without a set of ways to defend himself, should someone disarm him of his weapon.

Durable - Despite his scrawny appearance, the short stacked scrapper is one tough customer. Nicolas' ability to soak up damage is pretty decent, being highly resistant to small caliber gunfire, blunt force trauma, such as physical strikes, punches, kicks and other such ways to transfer this kind of force, even being struck by a car. Their effectiveness is very mild, a forty four magnum round would leave a vicious bruise while being struck by a speeding bus would...be more effective and break several bones but that would be the extent of the damage. Point is, Nicolas is built rather sturdily at least against physical acts of violence.

Skills: While considered a master swordsman, Nicholas is also relatively effective disarmed, owing to two years of karate and while he's no expert of the martial arts at least outside of his sword, it's the fact he normally combines physical attacks with his sonokinesis that gives it a bigger, heavier, superhuman level of force.

Weaknesses:

Sound-b-gone: Sonokinesis is a powerful mutation with numerous ways to be utilized, however, Sonokinesis has at least two major weaknesses. One, sound needs a medium to travel through which means there has to be air and oxygen between him and the target. Meaning it's useless in the void of space or against those that can manipulate the air to their will, creating vacuums either around him or between him and his target. Another one, is that if two sonokinetics meet they can easily cancel each other by nullifying the sound waves or matching the wave with an equal wave, causing them to mute each other.

Density: Certain materials can dampen sound. The denser a material, the harder it is to fight against it. For instance, lead is heavy and soft which makes it an ideal candidate for sound proofing, even having spacers between materials can help against this (as well as preventing shockwave dispersal)

Still only human - Nicholas is still only a human being and as such, he can still fall victim to sickness, disease and mortal injury despite being rather tough and durable in his own right.

Fatigue - Nicolas' abilities require focus and an expenditure of energy to properly use. The drain is determined by how long he holds the focus and how powerful it is, where the stronger his focus the stronger the effects. The same can be said for the drain on his stamina. While certain abilities have a limited number of uses due to their power, others are mundane and rudimentary and require very little to fuel them. But all of them regardless, can sap him quickly, a hindrance he's doing his hardest to overcome to allow him to progress to the next plateau of his growth.

Equipment:

Akai no kami - Akai no kami otherwise known in English as the red god, is a Katana with a blood red blade and more importantly, a masamune original. With unparalleled sharpness and possessing a durability that is as legendary as the creator itself, the Akai no kami is steeped in rumors and legends. Some say the blade chooses the owner, that it picks them on certain traits and that the weapon was cursed, or rather, used to seal a demon within the metal. The blade itself while seemingly mundane, does possess a lingering sensation of bloodlust radiating from the core of the blade itself, as if it's alive and aware.




Personality: When one first meets Nicolas he comes off as being quiet and distant from others, a loner that speaks few, if any words. Being partially deaf in both ears, Nicolas relies on sign language for much of his communication, only bothering to speak, primarily out of irritation, if someone is incapable of understanding sign language. But largely, he doesn't accommodate people who can't understand him, finding it more of a bother and a hassle to even try. Because if they can't adapt to his unique situation, why should he adapt to them?

Nicolas is by his very nature an irritable person, easily annoyed and made angry and while not the type to settle petty arguments with violence, he tends to adapt a more passive aggressive mannerism picking on the offender with sarcastic jokes and dark humor at the victims expense. He's not a nice person, at least, during these moments but Nicolas still has the capacity for acts of kindness. things that might not seem like much but to those he considers friends, can range from helping them take their medication to defending them from others. His humor is rather dark and sarcastic, fitting in with the mostly....unkind life he grew up living.


Strengths:

Loyalty is powerful, Loyalty is, to be supportive of those you consider as your friends through the thick and the thin. This is what defines Nicolas as a person, loyal and reliable and someone you can trust. Despite his aloof nature even towards those considered to be his friends, Nick is the kind of person that won't back down if anyone he trusts and anyone he's loyal to are thrust into danger.

Brave and stubborn, Nicholas is the type of person that rarely ever gives up during most situations however grim they may seem (he will give up if things get to be too much for him to handle). While some may call this stupidity or a lack of common sense, Nicolas just doesn't view difficulty the same was as other people, if somethings incredibly hard and dangerous, he views it less as a risk and a hindrance and more as a hurdle to leap, to improve himself as a person and as a fighter.

Nicholas is regarded as a fierce fighter even by his adoptive fathers standards. Relentless and with little mercy to spare, Nicholas comes at his opponents with full force right off the bat and rarely feels the need to relent until he's either beaten back or the one he's attacking has surrendered, been rendered unconscious, or they're dead.

Kindness is one of the few things one couldn't and probably wouldn't expect from the irritable outcast known as Nicolas. Despite all of the bad things Nicolas does for his father, like participating in gangland hits and enforcing protection rackets, he's actually a pretty kind person at heart which is one thing they both share in common. Nicolas and his adoptive father always the best interests of other people at heart, even if their way of doing things is usually criminal and unlawful. They just don't have the best interests of the rich and well off at heart is all.

Interests/Habits:

With interests considered to be simple, Nicolas can be regarded as an everyday normal person. Having interests in historical literature and perhaps due to his unique abilities, an interest in music and Audiology, the study of sound. Nicolas has at least one or two complex interests one of which involves an interest in the Chinese strategist sun tzu and another in the history of the world during, before and after war in fact, one would find his room littered with books on numerous subjects. primarily the aforementioned texts on the history of the world and the differing cultures contained within.

But as a kid, he does also enjoy the little things in life. Having a distinct fondness for soccer and baseball as well as paintball and video games, not those new ones the older down to earth classics from the eight and sixteen bit era. Overall in closing, Nicolas' interests are for the most part rather plain and simple but he does tend to enjoy some of the more complicated things in life from time to time.

History:

Life is never perfect, some life starts with a cry that heralds a new life, while sometimes, a life can start and perhaps, ends, with the staccato cry of gunfire and suffering. One such life belongs to a child formerly known as Nicolas Baxter, a babe too young to even remember his parents faces, let alone the screams of panic and disdain that closed a very, very short chapter within his life. He would have died himself, been another victim of crime and chaos if not for the pity a single man took upon the small form in the crib. So weak and helpless, incapable of much more than screaming his poor lungs out in fear as he was stolen off, away from the death and misery as the building burned down into naught more than charcoal and cinders.

One impromptu adoption later, no paper trails, no nothing, and Nicolas was legitimately the son of a mafioso head. You could say the man took pity on Nicolas, or maybe, perhaps the man saw a little bit of himself in the boy. Either way his decision to bring him into the fold not only saved his life but, it allowed his powers the ability to flourish. The heat of fire and the rippling, deafening gunfire had done a number on Nicolas' still developing ears and it had left him partially deaf, something the man, known as Marino Benedetti quickly noticed, when nothing short of screaming would get the boys undivided attention.

He was treated like any normal child, raised by a rather stern father figure, with, perhaps, a little grooming to walk in his fathers shoes someday and become the next head. You see, his father wasn't fond of the old ways of how the mafia worked. A revolutionary if you will, he saw that people, other people, not of pure Italian blood or any Italian blood even, had as much potential to lead men or carry out orders with as much competence as a pure blooded Italian made man. Nicolas was one such person, and he raised him, and instilled into him the belief that family was everything in the world, to honor your promises and to repay your debts to those that have helped you.

But life isn't always a bed of roses, well sometimes it is, but sometimes those roses have thorns. Nicolas experienced his first taste of cruelty at a young age. Nicolas was only twelve, still just a young boy, when some kids from school bullied him, the whole thing would have been just another run of the mill day at school, if not for the inclusion of nest of baby chicks. They made him watch you see, as they crushed them. The futile sounds of strangled suffering chirping registered within his ears, muffled, but he could make it out and it hit him in the gut like...like a bag of grapeshot fired from a cannon.

And that was probably....the first incident of his powers awakening, those boys you see? it was in that panicked state of fear, revulsion, anguish and helplessness that his abilities came forth with, quite literally, a bang. It was like a series of deafening explosions as if someone had detonated bomb after bomb after bomb right next to him and them, all the echoing chirping, his screaming, even the dull sound of his feet kicking and scrabbling against the ground became magnified to such an extent, that each boy suffered the same fate he did as a child. But to a much, much greater extent.

Now I'm not gonna say anything cheesy, like he then learned to master and control his powers, to harness them for the good of all mankind. Hell. No. Nicolas did feel a bit different after that....awakening let's call it that. But, he wasn't sure as to what happened himself, merely confused by the forms of the boys that laid before him, writhing in a mixture of pain and fear and then it hit him like a tidal wave, a wave of anger that washed over him like a boiling sea as he fell upon the hapless boys. Punching and kicking, and biting and scratching. The commotion itself didn't go unheard as police, emt's and firemen arrived to find this scrawny black haired boy beating on kids that where almost twice his size and it literally took two grown men pulling at him, to actually pry Nicolas off them.

But it was that first little taste of anger that made him want more, it made him feel strong, powerful and intimidating to just let it all go. But as the short years went by, that anger dulled a bit, as the raging fire became a pile of dying embers. But it was that surge of negative emotions that would draw him into something else or rather, draw something else to him.

Kyte.....you should know that with me it takes a lot of time to get any new ideas to work on with a character. It's less, how should I make this guy and more, what can I do to make this person seem like he could be really real.

Alright, I might as well work with Nicolas. My brains hit a slump on Aela and I just finished Nicolas up yesterday.
