"Knowledge is power. Hide it well."

Renee Ampere

The Informant [DONE!] Ireneanime

===IDENTITY===

Full Name: Renee Ampere
Nickname(s): Space-Elf (hates it), Mannequin
Codename: Informant
Alias(es): N/A
Age: 25 earth years old
Classification: Alien
Affiliation: Neutral

===PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION===

Hair Color: White
Eye Color: Silver
Height: 6'0
Weight: 145 lb
Other Traits:

Renee's clothes are not the epitome of elegance or well-thought design. She wears tight black pants, which are stretchy and comfortable during movements, and yet cling to body, showing curves in all the right places. A long-sleeved shirt with a turtleneck, it is also black. Her footwear resembles that of a dancer - they allow for swift and quiet movements, while weighting almost nothing. Across her shoulder there's a band with 5 throwing knives in it. She also can't be seen without her dark-green cloak, which hangs on her left shoulder. Underneath it there is a sword in scabbards, attached to the cloak's inner side.

===POWERS===

Powers:

Soul-binding rituals and practices - Renee's specialization lies in animating inanimate objects, either by channeling enough of her energy into them, or by possessing the objects herself, transferring her soul into them. She is, by no means, a full-fledged master, but far above intermediate level of skill, and thus is able to conjure such spells:

  • Object personification - by performing a short ritual, which involves a magic talisman, a circle, and a drop of her blood, her soul is transferred into the object in question, which she is able to control using her spiritual power. Things she is able to perform while being inside a possessed object differ with size and nature of them. For example, if she possesses a small pebble, she would be able to make it levitate and move, but nothing more. But if she possesses a suit of armor, she, while not able to make it levitate (too heavy), will be able to walk around and use things just as if someone was wearing that armor. Should the possessed object be destroyed, her soul returns to her body. But stress from all of this would make her unable to do much of anything for the rest of the day.

  • Invisible swordsman - by channeling a bit of energy into a weapon or an object of reasonable size (not necessarily a sword, tis just a figure of speech), she can control it to levitate and fight for her. She can control up to three weapons or objects at the time, and during it, while being able to hide or move, is unable to fight herself. If she would be forced to, or of she takes damage, the concentration is broken and her weapons become useless. Must touch the object in question to make it obey.

  • Magical trigger - by touching a mechanism, and whispering a short incantation, can make it perform a simple action, if the conditions for it are met. Conditions are set by the user. Example: She could enchant a grenade to explode when somebody approaches the door, and hide the grenade somewhere near it. Somebody (or it may be a particular person the user determines even) approaches the door - grenade explodes.

  • Aramor creation - Requires a difficult ritual with lots of incantations, and drains almost all energy from the user. By channeling so much into a suit of armor, or a mannequin, or a doll, or anything of the sort, the user is able to 'create life', so to speak, animating the object. It will have some sentience, and able to execute simple commands, and fight. A golem, basically. After performing the ritual, user must restore energy drained from his or her body for several days.

Light-bending enchantments - A series of enchantments that allow to bend and detract light. This was the discipline she was taught back in her 'school', which she largely neglected, so her knowledge of this is very limited, to simple basics:

  • Hidden object - puts a hand on the object and whispers an incantation, to make the object's outline very, very blurry, noticeable only at close range, and blending with the surroundings from afar. The illusion is broken if the object touches anything aside from hands of the user.

  • Camocloak - a bit more advanced form of Hidden Object, used on a cloak. It obscures image and blends into background, the only difference being that it doesn't use its qualities upon contact with other objects.

Skills:

  • Apt weapon user - fights well with a blade, moderately well with two blades. Good at throwing knives.

  • Stealthy - is good at hiding and generally staying undetected.

  • Nimble - she's quick, by human standards.

  • Musician - plays a flute-like instrument.

Weaknesses:

  • Dead for good - if her body dies while she possesses an object, she dies also.

  • Human physiology - her body is not stronger or more resilient than your average human's, which means she is fragile for a world full of metahumans.

  • Distractions - any sort of serious distraction would make her lose concentration and control over whatever she is manipulating.

Equipment:

  • Throwing knives x5

    The Informant [DONE!] United-Cutlery-GH0947B-rw-14249-4719

  • Steel sword x1

    The Informant [DONE!] Windlass-European-Sword

  • Smoke bombs x5 - engulf an area of circa 5 meter radius is smoke. Explode upon contact.

    The Informant [DONE!] 216-black-balls-p-250x250

  • Mini-bombs x5 - could potentially kill a person if hit directly. If exploded close to a person, would potentially disorient and confuse them.

    The Informant [DONE!] Le9003_medium

  • Crash Dummy - can often be seen in the company of this mannequin. It was built to participate in car tests, and thus is very resistant to physical damage. It was 'brought to life' by Renee. Name's Bouncer.

    The Informant [DONE!] 343q05z

  • Book of secrets - Renee's source of knowledge about her magics. She studies it rigorously, and never carries it with herself, preferring to have it hidden away in a place known only to her.

    The Informant [DONE!] 4864490588

  • Bundle of rope (50 meters)

  • Grappling hook x1

  • Binoculars x1

  • Flute x1

===PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE===

Personality:

Renee has ... two of them, so to speak. Due to her living two lives. In first one, she is Renee Ampere, a student in Steel City's pedagogical university, who works as a librarian to pay for her tuition. She pays her taxes, has good grades, and helps her landlady take out her garbage. All in all, a relatively nice girl. She attends to a dancing and fencing class as a hobby, is fairly popular among her peers too.

Her second one, however, is different. Known as 'The informant', she is a ruthless and secretive information broker, who believes no one, cares about nothing but personal profit, and revels in thrill of doing illegal and outright dangerous activities.

Which one of them is the real one, and which is just a mask? Truth is, both are real, two parts of her personality, which she chose to differentiate for sake of efficiency, using each in area it is best suited for. First one is for 'life', which she enjoys, second is for work, which ... she also enjoys.

Renee's neither a heroic not villainous person. She can be nice or she can be ruthless whenever she sees fit, trying to balance out each. The girl does not like harsh laws and penalties, but at the same time, does not support anarchy and outright villainy just for the heck of it. From her view, she'd keep it safe enough to enjoy 'normal' social life, yet in enough turmoil to never run our of 'jobs'. A safe and secure world has no use for information traders.

The girl has a strange view on friendships. She's easy enough to approach and befriend, when she's in her 'civilian' mode. Those who know who she works as, or employs her services, Renee always treats at arms length. Being friends with people who know too much about you is not good business, and outright dangerous. She's fairly certain that those who don't know and treat her friendly would turn away the moment they find out.

Renee hates being picked on and annoyed about her ears. It is the fastest and easiest way to get her kick your ass - and she is quick to use physical force when provoked. But aside from that, there is little that can upset her or unphase her. Among those is not holding to a word. Renee would get out of her skin, but would hold to word she gives. Because of that, she gives her word rarely, and only when completely sure she will be able to hold it.

She also likes to live in luxury, and shiny objects. Despite having lived in poverty for a period of time, she still feels more comfortable around 'civilized surroundings'. But, unlike many, she is not disgusted even in dirtiest slums of Steel city. Most of money she earns illegally she spends on jewelry, expensive gadgets, and other stuff to show her status. Yes, she is vain like that.

Best way to get on Renee's good side is a small gift, or showing aptitude in one of her areas of interest. The girl is cautious in relations that would extend beyond simple friendships, but it is not impossible to approach her. Most of times though, it will be her to make the first move - she is far from timid, and if she made a move - that means you managed to impress her enough.

Renee doesn't talk much about her family. In her opinion, her parents were egoistical douchebags who viewed her as an asset, and wanted her to be like they wanted her to, and not how she wants. If anything, the girl misses her nanny far more than both of them.

She has a deep-seated envy towards people who perform above average in their trade. People who are considered gifted, and who can learn new things quickly without much effort. Renee doesn't like such people, mostly because for her skills she had to work long and hard to achieve her level of mastery. She would hate to see someone surpass her in her trade not because they put more effort, but 'just because'. Tis unfair, in her opinion, and she shuns individuals who are overly talented, and arrogant because of that, favoring the hard-working underdogs.

She likes this planet, which became her new home. It has thrill and far less rules that made her world so rafinated and boring. She'd hate to see something completely bad happen to it, something that would bring to complete victory of some chaotically evil force, Renee would stand against it. Status Quo, fellas. Status Quo.

Strengths:

  • Knowledgeable - very much so. Absorbs knowledge like a sponge.
  • Physically fit.
  • Adaptable - gets used to new things quickly, change of environment doesn't affect her as much as other people.

Interests/Habits: Dancing, fencing, playing chess, playing flute. Has a habit of clanking her fingers against the table when she is nervous.

===PERSONAL BACKGROUND===

Family Members:

Father: Orza Ampere

Mother: Neree Ampere

Place of Origin: Exharz
Current City: Steel
History:

Renee was born on a distant and unknown planet of Exharz, to a family of wealthy aristocrats. Exharz is a planet similar to Earth in many ways, and yet different than it. For one, there is little to no technology in that world, it being replaced by magic, since everyone has some sort of magical gift bestowed upon them.

Exharz is a world, where Good, technically, triumphed over Evil. In theory. Badguys don't run rampant across it, wars don't happen, banks are not getting robbed, etcetera. But it may only seem that way. Reason why everything is so 'fine' in there is because the planet lives under strict dictatorship. For any infraction, even the smallest one, penalty usually is very disproportionate, and death sentences are fairly common. This makes anybody very afraid of committing any potential crimes. Children are raised by their parents very strictly, and are obliged to obey until they come of age and become independent of their family, free to create their own.

The girl was a somewhat spoiled child in that regard. She was not coy and obedient, oh no. Instead she was obnoxious, hyperactive, noisy, and ... well, how children are supposed to be. Parents turned a blind eye on her mischief, busy with their own troubles and concerns, and nannies were too afraid to be punished to say anything to the child.

In retrospect, as Renee would recall those days, it was a good thing that her parents had little time to instill proper fear of authority in her. 'Otherwise I would ended up yet another boring drone. A copy of them.' - she she would say. Eventually, they would attempt to regain control, but moment would be lost, and it would be too late.

But until then, the girl had fun with other, more cloistered kids, often leading them into mischief for which they would get into trouble. Such lovely life would continue until age of 6, when her parents decided it was time to regain proper role in Renee's life, which was truly a dark day for her. Instead of meek, kind nanny, came these ... cold people. Who punished her and tried to force discipline down her throat. Spoiled by her carefree life before, the child did not take it too well, but eventually, the adults managed to make her obey. Even if with force and beatings.

They viewed the girl as their heir, and a future asset once she grows up. Her family was prided to have powerful mages in their ancestral line, and they expected Renee to become one herself. For that, she was sent to a special 'Academy', where she would be taught just that. Her family had much hope for her, hope that she did not live up to.

Renee was a student on the low end of mediocre. Problems with discipline aside, she had to face a fact that her aptitude at magical arts was quite ... mediocre. She just knew it was not her calling. Sitting in class studying boring incantations was impossible for her to do. She'd rather grab a half-swordling and go play with boys in the yard, finding her love for weapons for the first time. That hobby, of course, was shunned by her parents, who were not impressed with her grades, and punished her for everything. These beatings did make Renee strive more, if only to escape. But things just ... did not go well.

At age of 14 Renee was a somewhat poor sight to see. From various cruel punishments, which ranged from beatings to not be given food, to humiliation, she was beginning to slip. Renee hated other kids for being better than her, for not having to go through same crap she did. But cruel reality was this: she wasn't talented enough to satisfy her parents' perfectionism. In desperation, the girl decided to make a bold move.

The Academy, which she studied in, rumored to have a vault, in which most powerful knowledge about Exharzian magic was kept, some of it even forbidden. From pestering one of the teachers, and constant snooping around and eavesdropping, Renee found out that it was not a rumor, but a fact. And decided that getting her hands on that superior knowledge would immediately lift her in eyes of her parents and teachers. This was when her talent at unraveling secrets first manifested. The vault, as it turned out, was not very heavily guarded. In fact, several professors ventured inside of it quite often. This was just what she needed. A crack in a defense.

The girl created her very first puppet. She transferred her conscience into it, and, as a doll, hid inside the professor's case. When said man entered the vault, and went about his business, Renee-puppet escaped. She found the smallest book she could carry away, and with the most intriguing name of all - 'Book of secrets'. She dragged the book back to the case, and hid inside with it. Unaware, the professor just carried it out, thus completing the first heist of her life.

However, in such a police state, nothing went unseen. And Renee was stupid enough to brag about it too, but it was hard not to do so - such a success! Everybody would've been amazed. Foolish girl, she forgot where she was, and it almost cost her her life, when Punishers came knocking at her home's door.

Renee knew they came for her the moment she saw em outside the window. But she did not know what to do. Escape was impossible - where would she run? It would be only a matter of time before she would be captured. Paralyzed with fear, she was completely lost. For a theft, consequences might have been most severe, and she had absolutely no faith in her parents - they'd likely denounce her as their daughter to save their family name. The girl was about to try escaping through the window. Heavy steps were getting closer and closer. But then, suddenly, a wind blew, and opened the book that she had stolen, on a random page. That page contained a spell that she would later call "Random dimension gate." n truth, it was a teleport spell of great potency, but the girl was no great mage. She tried casting it, but instead screwed up, and the portal that opened teleported her ... to a place she couldn't have possibly imagined...

'I must be the luckiest person in the universe. Out of countless billions of planets that exist in the universe, the magic portal sent me to a habitable planet with people. That's quite a feat in my book...'

This was how Renee ended up on Earth. The portal spewed her out in one of dirty abandoned backalleys of Steel city. She had nothing, nothing with her. Only that book that saved her life, somehow ended up in her hands when she fell out of the portal into a pile of trash and dirt. Alone, into a completely new world too.

These first years were very hard for Renee, so hard she described them as 'Hell'. Because it indeed was hell. So very often she was close to dying, from hunger, or from running into hostile gangs, until, one day, a bunch of hobos offered her shelter. It was not much, but those people took care for her, offered food and clothes, however poor, in her time of greatest need. Renee remembers those people, and is grateful, returning he favor fully once she managed to rise high.

Despite hardship, this new world Renee found herself in was ... fascinating. The greatest miracle being technology. She never saw anything like that before, these things were doing magic ... without magic! It was truly incredible. This world was doing just fine without any sort of supernatural powers bestowed upon them!

At first, Renee helped out her new 'family' by stealing for them. In this magic-less world, her powers, while mediocre in her own realm, proved extremely useful. She found herself studying the book, and desperately remembering all lessons she didn't pay attention to in the Academy. She was successful, very successful, and as she aged and gained experience, both of this world and in her use of magic, so did the scale of her 'jobs'. From robbing food stores to jewel heists, her unique abilities allowed her to loot places without even approaching them. She killed people too, for those who paid well, and after first, hardest kill, it was becoming easier and easier. Snooping out secrets of others, and selling them to highest bidder. This was the life she reveled in, unlike the static dullness of her home planet, this was bristling with crime, and adrenalin.

But as the girl grew, she was becoming weary of all that. Initial euphoria has passed, and the dangers that were coming with heists and assassinations. At age of 22, she already decided that she had seen enough, and that it was time to settle down. Buy a house, or something, find a more peaceful job, and stop worrying about police at your doorstep. But alas, once you're into crime, you're not getting out so easily. She entered a university, made some friends, and lives a normal life. By day. At night, when sins too horrible to commit in daylight seem so alluring, she returns to being who she was all these years here. She hunts for information, assisting heroes and villains alike, for a hefty sum to support her 'peaceful life'. Such method of earning cash became so familiar to her, she just cannot let go of it. Even if not s strong as before, thrill for danger and adventure still calls for Renee.

But what does future have in store for her?

Sample RP:

This is where it all began...

An old, abandoned, empty alleyway. No light, even in the morning it looked dingy and gray, forever surrounded by shadows. Garbage, rubble, broken glass, used syringes, left by local junkies, crumpling underfoot. That stench and decay of desperate living. A place so repulsive, yet so very very familiar to some people. Who would've thought someone could remember this place with a warm smile on her face.

Renee sure didn't.

And yet she was here, grinning like an idiot, and stepping forward and down this alleyway, feeling nostalgia overwhelm her. This was where her life truly began. Here was this trash heap she fell into upon exiting the portal. Ok, not the exact same one, but not much different regardless. Nothing changed much. Maybe a few more graffitis on the walls, but that's it. It felt like coming back to the past...

Eleven years... Jesus, when you think about it, you realize how much it is. Eleven years ago, she was just a frightened, hungry girl in weird robes, rummaging a trash can for food. Hard to believe it, when this girl stands right in front of you, dressed like a mercenary, and idly clicking buttons on her new, and incredibly expensive personal communicator. Many things changed. But still in her heart there was some warmth to this hard, harsh, but real life. She till remembered those hobos, who saved her, and who gave her that which her real parents never did. So why was she here? Simple. Today she was going to visit one of them...

There it was, in the dead end of this alley. A crude house constructed out of a few boxes and planks. She remembered it, she used to live here. And in front of it, there was a broken chair, and in that chair there was the person she wanted to see. A man around 50, wearing an old, dirty suit which had more holes in it than swiss cheese, with a straw hat covering his eyes. Snoring loudly. It was a bit silly to watch him like that, a sight Renee was all too familiar with.

- Hey, hey wake up, old fart. - she giggled, tickling his leg with a twig, through the hole on his shoe. It took a bit for him to react, but eventually grumbles of annoyance and tiredness announced the man's awareness.

- Ugh... go away, can't you see I'm trying to sleep here~... huh?

A few more moments went in silence, two people just looking one at another. The old man's was that of confusion, Renee's - a chuckling grin. It took him long enough to remember, before, sitting straight, he muttered unsurely:

- R... Renee? Is that you?

- You know anyone else around here with silver hair and pointy ears around here, Harvey? - she asked, giggling a bit, amused by the fact it took him so much time to figure out who she was. But, eventually, a large grin appeared on his face.

- Well I'll be damned! Would have never guessed that a small girl I picked up a while ago would grow up in such a beautiful young woman. How've you been? Um... have a seat! - Harvey said, laughing, and pulled a crate for her to act as a chair. He rummaged through his old bag, eventually discovering an untouched bottle of cheap vodka in it, and put it on the improvised table.

- Wanna drink, Renee?

- Eihehe, I'd rather pass this one. Never liked your earthly beverages to be honest. - Renee politely declined. The man shrugged, opening the bottle and pouring himself some into a dirty glass.

- Suit yourself. But I will indulge myself. So how you've been? I thought you have forgot about us sorry sods. - Harvey said, drinking the shot in one go. Renee only answered with another chuckle - she couldn't help it. 'Grandpa Harvey' always made her laugh.

- I'll never forget you guys. And ... I've been fine. Things' been ... quiet so far. Going to try entering a uni, build a life, you know ... stuff. - she said, not even knowing where to begin in detail. Harvey only nodded, understanding, and poured herself a bit more.

- You go girl. I know you will succeed. Out of our little band, only you managed to make something of yourself and your life. Others... didn't do so well... - he let out a sigh, looking at the transparent liquid in his glass. He sounded ... depressed, Renee caught it. Something bad happened, she knew it.

- What of the others? Joey? Mikey? Little Lizzy?

Another pained sigh came. Harvey drank his glass, and wiped sweat from his dirty forehead.

- Mikey became a junkie and died from an overdose a year ago. Joey ... he got entangled with a gang of punks. Never heard of him since. Lizzy... I heard she's an underage prostitute somewhere. Everybody has left... I am the only one who stays here... Alone.

- What happened to your job? You told me you found one last time I visited... - Renee asked quietly, looking down at the ground. This was reality of Steel city. It was fun for her ... but there was also a lot of evils and tragedies... Harvey only shook his head, looking away.

- I got fired. That life was not for me. Over these years... I kinda ... got too much used to this place. I am wasted, Renee. My place has been here for so long I cannot function outside of it anymore. Tis just ... how it works... - the man said, staring into his glass. How quickly the mood of conversation changed from cheerful to gloomy... A few more moments passed in silence...

- Harvey?

- Yeah?

- Pour me some.

Claimed!

Expect a full review very soon! Until then, enjoy our general section, perhaps give some rules a look over, talk to your new forum buddies on the c-box etc, etc. Let's see if we can get Renee approved nice and quick!
