| In what is known by most as the next life, Evan sat on a hill staring down at a lake. Everything was peaceful here. He suddenly became aware of a newcomer. Turning around, he saw Will from the Teen Titans. "Well hello there." Evan smiled. "I didn't expect to see you here today."

| With the sudden release from the burning of his body, Will opens his eyes to look at the ground underneath him. Feeling shocked as he realized it was no longer night time, Will goes to stand up while confused about how he survived Nightmare's attack on him when it hits him that he wasn't in Jump City any more. Hearing a voice behind him, Will turned around to see the familiar face of his friend Evan looking at him while smiling.
Evan?? What are you doing here? You're de... Whoa..
With his eyes opening wide now, Will starts to look across the field before placing his hand on Evan's shoulder to check if he was really there.
What did you mean by "expect to see me"? Am I dead, Evan?

| Will's hand would feel flesh and bone, instead of the robotic shell that had been Evan's mortal body. "Dead? Yes, I suppose you are dead, aren't you. But you know what? It's not really that bad is it?" Evan stretched his hand out towards the lake, full of pristine water and surrounded by lush trees.
"You know, I thought you were working for Death or something like that. What happened? Did you get fired?" |

| Looking off to stare at the lake, Will lowers his head after a few seconds staring at the ground before lifting his head back up and looking at Evan.
I guess Death can die. I had possession of his powers and was killed by someone who was near immortal. You remember David?

| "David?" Evan sat down on a rock and rubbed his chin. "You mean Nightmare? Yes, I do. So he's the one who killed you?"

With the spell complete, Grace suddenly found herself in the land of the dead. She expected it to be all scary, but it wasn't. It was...peaceful. She was standing in a woods, surrounded by green trees and soft grass. This was all so strange. Grace had always thought that the living somehow had the better life. Bringing Will back no longer seemed like the main challenge ahead of her. Instead, finding the motivation to leave such a place would be the real difficulty. The living could not stand to leave such a beautiful place as this.
But someone she had brought with her was not as impressed. "YES, YES. IT'S A PARADISE, ISN'T IT. BUT DON'T FORGET OUR DEAL, MOTHER. YOU CAME TO RETRIEVE YOUR HUSBAND."
"Of course." The Firstborn was the only reason this plan had any chance of success. Firstborn was a product of Death, and was therefore not shocked by this place. In fact, Firstborn found it to be an undesirable place to be. The constant push at the back of Grace's mind was just enough to motivate her to follow through with the plan.
She had transported her soul to the afterlife, although her body was still alive in the mortal plane. It was a risky move, and she had only been able to do such a thing with one of Will's magical spell books.
Now it was time for part 2 of the plan. Grace opened the book to another page and recited a new spell. Upon it's completion, a huge pillar of light erupted from the ground, visible from miles around. It was a door of light, and it led back to the land of the living.
"THE LIGHT WILL TAKE YOU BACK TO THE LAND OF THE LIVING, AND IT WILL PURIFY YOU OF ALL DARKNESS. ONLY IN THE AFTERLIFE IS THIS SPELL EVEN POSSIBLE. NOW WE MUST WAIT FOR YOUR LOVE TO APPEAR."

Evan would look up into the sky and see the bright pillar of light. A doorway to the living? How strange. He had made use of a similar doorway earlier, but now he was far too removed from the mortal world to desire to go back.
"It looks like that's for you. Someone must care about you an awful lot, Will. Go to them. Your life has not yet been lived out. There are still battles for you to fight, challenges to overcome, and love to experience. But when you die next, please come visit me. I would enjoy hearing about all your adventures." |
