CLASH OF TITANS

A new TCG involving all your favorite heroes and villains from the Teen Titans Universe! Pick your team and fight intense battles!

Forum Edition V1.04 Rulebook

Up to date card list can be found here:
Clash of Titans Card List

__________________________________________________________________

Goal of the game:
To defeat the other team by carefully planning and emploring your own strategies.

Starting the game:
Before the game begins, each player is assigned a number of BP (Battle Points) with which he or she chooses cards from the collection. You can have less, but never more BP then the set amount. Every card has a cost, which all counted together, result in your BP.

The standard set is 20, but this may be increased or decreased if both players agree to a new amount.

All card costs together = Battle Points. May not exceed the maximum set amount.

Both players (or more if there are any) PM their cards lists to a self-appointed referee who makes sure everything is according to the rules. Decks are assembled before the game begins and cannot be changed inbetween turns.

When you are selecting your cards, there are a few rules to keep in mind next to the BP:

1) You may not have more then 3 of the same cards
2) You may not have more then one version of a character
3) You may not have more then 3 characters on your side of the field (currently)

Card types:

(RED) Characters: These are your fighters, the heroes, villains, and everyone else who fights to save the day, or end it. These cards always have a few common traits:
*Card Name
*BP Summoning cost
*Icons regarding Range, Flight, and Ongoing.
*Character Type (Good, Evil, Neutral)
*Character Abilities (If they have any)
*Attack and Defence value.

Spoiler:

(Black) Minions: Essentially another version of characters, but these cards are not true heroes or villains. They will often serve one purpose, limiting their usefullness but their costs are low and they can become more dangerous if left alone. In addition to this, they have a sub-group (Such as JUMP CITY UNDERGROUND or HELLSPAWN) which can be important later on.

(GREY) Abilities: Abilities are the moves your characters can do to turn the tide of battle into his or her favor! Your character needs to be able to perform the ability, so always make sure your character is able to cast the same element as the ability has (Example: If you have Emblem on your side of the field, you can cast Fireball, but you cannot cast shadow whip. Emblem's card states what elements he can use.)

An ability card is placed in the 'used cards' space after it has been used.

Spoiler:

(PURPLE) Strategies / Schemes: Whilst we all know what most heroes can do in theory, it's the decisions they make and the plots they unfold that make them the threat they are. Purple cards can be one of the two following things:

Strategy (used by most good characters) is a way in which the good character tries to act. Strategies cannot be used by evil characters, they can only be used by good characters. These often have sub-types, such as Supportive, Offensive, Defensive, Power-up or Endgame. ((more on types here))

Schemes are the devious methods villains use to reach their goal. Whether it's poisoning the citizens or forcing them on their knees with mighty dragons, Schemes provide evil characters they means to dominate the game. Schemes cannot be used by good characters, and are less oftenly used then strategies. They are often more powerful, but will cost more in return.

Spoiler:

A Strategy / Scheme card is used and remains on the battlefield unless the conditions it has are either met (Such as three turns passing after playing Death by Dragons) or they are destroyed before this. A Strategy / Scheme is also placed in the 'used cards' area if the character it is used on (Such as Raising the Bar used on Shadow) is defeated in battle.

A more power version of a Strategy / Scheme is an ''Endgame'' Strategy or Scheme. These cards require something big from you in return. One of the most common is ''You are not allowed to play any strategy / scheme after this card.'' forcing you to pick the right time to use your final moves.

(GREEN) Locations: Locations are the places which are visited in battle. Whether you're fighting in the Jump City Park or on the rocky cliffs just outside of town, every location can be used to your advantage, or your opponent's disadvantage. Only one location may be active.

If you play a Location, it's rules are automatically applied to the entire playing field (and every card on it). If someone else plays a Location card after this (or you decide to play another one) then the previous one is replaced and put into the 'used cards' section.

Parts of a turn

Opening:
Any effects that start at this turn or resolve are played out now. All strategies that have an effect every turn are resolved now.

(Cards like this include Death by Dragons, who states that if it is not destroyed after three turns it will destroy three heroes. So if the third turn passed and the card or character had not been destroyed yet, then this one resolves att he opening, destroying heroes. Another one would be ''Helping Hand'' which deals 1 damage every turn.)

Stand-off:
During the stand-off, people may play their cards and/or use abilities. For now, every player is allowed to play a maximum of two cards every turn.

Battle:
During the battle phase, you may attack with your characters (if they are able to). When you do, you choose a target. Your attack value is then substracted form the defending character's defence value.

If a character has destructable defence (due to a spell or ability), then the attacking character's attack value is substracted from the destructable defence first (unless some spell or ability says otherwise)

Characters do not recover from any injuries made.

Example:
A player enters the battle phase and had a Shadow (2 attack, 5 defence) on his side of the field. On the other side, an opponent has the ''Cult of Ignis'' (1 attack, 4 defence) on their side. The player decides to attack their opponent's ''Cult of Ignis'' with ''Shadow''. Her attack value (2) is substracted from the opponent's defence (4), leaving 2. ''cult of Ignis'' now has 2 defence left. If shadow would attack it again the next turn (without it being protected by any cards or means) then she would lower the ''Cult of Ignis'' card's defence value to 0, succesfully defeating it. the ''Cult of Ignis'' card would then be put into the ''used cards area'' in the next phase.

Aftermath:
Any effects after the Battle phase (Such as a character card reaching 0 defence value) are resolved and any strategy which states it does something after combat are activated as well.

After this, your turn has ended and your opponent's turn begins

Ability list

Sacrifice:
An ability that allows the player to sacrifice a card (if not stated which, then it's the card on which the ability was printed) to have some effect take place.

A card may not be sacrificed the same turn it is placed on the battlefield.

Example:
During a Stand-off phase, a player may sacrifice his Ignis Shaman to activate the effect and deal 2 damage to a visible target of choice.

Copy:
A COPY is a duplicate of another card. It shares the same values as that card at the time of duplication, but it does not have any of it's destructable defence. If a copy is made of a character that has a POWER-UP, then the copy also received the additional attack and defence value as well as any additional ability (except for destructable defence). Other strategy / scheme bonusses granted to a character are also not copied.

Stun:
A character who is stunned may not attack that turn, but it can still use abilities (such as Shadow Whip Strike) or be sacrificed.

Stealth (Not implemented yet):
A character with Stealth cannot be hit by attacks that require a visible target. A character with stealth may only use stealth attacks. If using a non-stealth attack, the character is revealed and visible like all others.

Destructable Defence:
A value that is added to the defence value a character already has. Additionally, the destructable defence has to be depleted before a character's personal defence is lowered unless another card states differently.

Icons:
Icons on the left side ofyour card depict various things. There are currently three types of icons:
- A small set of wings tells you the card has the ability to Fly.
- A targeting reticule tells you your card has a long Range.
- A small clock depicting your card is Ongoing, meaning it will not be put in the ''used cards spot'' after it resolves.

Characteristic:
A card with the Characteristic ability portrays something that is not measured in strength or damage. A card with the Characteristic sub-type needs to be pointed at a character before the beginning of the match. This card, whether it's an ability, a scheme or strategy, may only be played by the one character it was assigned to. The Characteristic card changes into a ''Characteristic Strategy'' if it was appointed to a GOOD Character and it becomes a ''Characteristic Scheme'' if appointed to an EVIL character. If appointed to a neutral character, it will remain just ''Characteristic'' and can be played against both GOOD and EVIL characters.

Suspended:
A rare effect, Suspended means the following; ''Any turn count is halted, and granted bonusses halted at their current effect. Destructable Defense may still be damaged''. This means that when this card is played, the time count part of schemes such as 'Death by Dragons' will not count further until the Suspended effect is gone. The Destructable Damage Death by Dragons grants however, may still be damaged.

Priority:
A Card with Priority has the benefit of overruling all others. This means that if a spell would be boosted to deal more damage (by say, Darkforce Boost or Emblem Trailblazer's ability) then it would still be lowered or raised by the priority card. If a Priority card would state damage dealt is reduced to 1 (Such as Shadow Melt) then other effects are overruled, as damage dealt will remain 1 due to the PRiority effect.

Rulebook is free to be discussed.

Any questions may be posted here as well as any ideas to improve it. As new cards come out, the book will be adapted to match the evolving game.

do you want your character to be featured in the CLASH OF TITANS game? Feel free to contact me by replying! I design and try to balance the cards, but suggestions are always welcome!

Expect a try out game by me and Krious soon, but feel free to play against each other if you wish: I'm always there to referee!

How many cards would be the best to put together for a game?

The current number of points one can use is 20; This could be one hero and many abilities, or spread out. the more cards you have, the more you can use, but if you have less cards, you have more powerful ones. There's a limit of playing

Personally? I'd try to find a strategy that suits you or your character. If you're out of cards then you can't play anything; that way you'll have to rely on attack to defeat the opponent.

I'm still debating with myself about the amount of cards one is allowed to play each turn. Currently, calculations show 2 would keep it fair. If it's much higher, one would play his card and the other would simply blast those off the board. This way, the one who starts the match will be at a disadvantage. We can't have that now can we Wink

Moon, I did. It's a program I use to put these cards together. I created the rules and create cards from time to time. The game however, it's not perfect yet. The limitations of a forum board show, but I have no doubt it'll get better as time progresses. I have a good friend who's working on something to make matches show more clearly.

I'm just a sucker for card games really. That and my revived Magic: The Gathering vibe culminated in The Clash of Titans TCG Wink
