"Let's lighten up, huh?"

«««IDENTITY»»»
Codename: Solar Guardsman (The Second)
Nickname(s): Knight Light, Bulb-boy, Blaze-face, Johnny, Sammy
Age: 17
Race: Human-Mutant
Alignment: Lawful Good
Is this a canon?: No Wai!

«««PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION»»»

Hair Color: Dark Brown
Eye Color: Warm Brown/ Fiery Orange with hints of gold (While using power.)
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1
Weight:178
Other Traits: Johnny is a young man of decent height and fit, perhaps even 'heroic', frame. He has slightly curly, tousled hair that rests comfortably between medium and short length. He usually has a calm smile on his face, which has strong features. His stride is confident, and with a slight swagger. When either really, truly upset or giving his abilities everything he's got, his eyes not only practically become spotlights of fiery orange energy, but the area around them becomes laced with golden veins of energy that look startlingly similar to the ones that appear on his Solsteel equipment.

As for clothing, when not 'guarding' Steel City his taste leans towards the usual clothes of  teenagers, though he sometimes favors gamer themed t-shirts or accessories. While acting as the Solar Guardsman, he is clad in a old leather bomber jacket inlaid with a strange, orange metal in the shape of a sun on it's chest, with two of the rays arcing over his shoulders. He's also dressed in a more contemporary pair of cargo pants, with a pistol holster well strapped to his right hip and leg, and finishes the outfit off with a closefitting mask and athletic, armored boots. Though the mask covers much of his head, it leaves the top of his head and his lower face bare, and is a dull orange in color. He also has armored gloves that cover much of his lower arm.

«««SKILL SET»»»

Main Power Origins: Mutation-Solar Energy Control

Powers
[Main]Solar Energy Manipulation: When his grandfather was mutated by what happened so long ago, he gained the ability to absorb and control solar energy. Though it skipped his child, his grandson managed to inherit the ability. As such, Johnny has the same, or at least similar abilities, which have manifested in the ways below.

Solar Blast: The most prominent is a classic fist blast of concussive energy. Channeling solar energy into his hands, he can then launch out a lemon sized 'bullet' of concentrated energy that hits like a pro boxer's right hook. He can also charge the energy, resulting in a larger, concentrated blast of rippling orange and gold energy. This charged blast is not only bigger, but can also send a standard adult human flying.

Solar Equip: He can also channel his energy into certain equipment. So long as it's either made of or built with Solsteel, he can make use of it by charging it with solar energy. Using this ability, for example, allows him to use his jetpack without the need for buttons, gizmos, or even fuel, and also allows him to use certain other equipment. When using this aspect of his power, whatever Solsteel he has on him glows with golden-circuit like patterns.

Skills
Flight: The young man has a natural knack for flight, and his grandfather made certain that he sharpened said knack by teaching Johnny everything he could about it. Not only is Johnny able to fly an aircraft surprisingly well, this skill, combined with his channeling power, makes him an absolute menace with his jetpack.

Brawler: His grandfather taught him a few fighting tricks, and said tricks are also backed up with a healthy amount of boxing. He's skilled enough to be a decent threat to typical crooks even without his powers, and supplementing this skill with his powers and equipment allows him to be a surprisingly potent foe.

Fix'em'up: Though he's certainly no tech-head, his grandfather has taught him familiarity with his equipment, not to mention a few tricks and tips. As such, Johnny can rig simple repairs if his equipment receives some damage.

Gamer: He is as good with games as any teen these days, and can play a mean He1i0s on Battle 'Borgs 3.

Abilities[/u]
Strong: He's in pretty good shape, and can sling out a right hook just as mean as his 'standard' blasts.

Physical Weaknesses
(Mostly) Human: Though he has been blessed with certain amazing powers, and the equipment to use them, he's still human in all the ways that count. Though this is a good thing, it also means he's just as vulnerable as any man to whatever weapons or attacks his foes bring against him.

Energy Overload: Though the Solsteel on his jacket can intercept the energy blasts that modern weapons use, too much can lead to 'feedback' or 'interference', making it particularly difficult for Johnny to channel solar energy to his jetpack and, in extreme cases, interfere with his channeling to other equipment or even using his Solar Blast.

Drain: Johnny needs to absorb solar energy if he wants to use his powers. Though he usually has enough for night to not be a problem, going too long without light from a sun, or from things that produce the same type of light/energy, can lead to him being temporarily powerless. Things that can absorb solar energy are also a threat to him.

Resistant, Not Proof: Though the Solsteel has a certain knack for diverting energy pistol blasts, that doesn't mean there isn't danger. Solsteel isn't really meant for anything but solar energy, and though an standard energy gun won't drill holes in it without some effort, heat and impact force can get through. Too many shots can wind up quite unpleasant.

Mental Weaknesses

Not Experienced: Johhny's still relatively new to the heroing gig. Though he's quite willing to be the hero, he's still vulnerable to being tricked and 'rope-a-doped' by clever crooks.

How Noble: Johnny's a hero through and through. Though this isn't necessarily a bad thing, that does mean a particularly ruthless foe can take advantage of his noble personality.

Focus: His grandfather has made certain that Johnny's learnt how to focus, and the young man is quite capable of blasting a crook and using his jetpack at the same time without his channeling being disturbed. That said, Johnny's still not quite experienced enough to have a absolutely rock solid grasp on his focus, and a sufficient distraction can prevent him from letting off a blast, or even make it so that he's sent free falling for a few seconds until he refocuses.

Equipment
Guardsman's Jacket: The signature jacket itself, this garment is a bomber/pilot jacket modified with Solsteel that has been shaped into the shape of a simple sun. It not only serves as a means of quick identification, but allows him to use the jetpack and serves as rudimentary armor. It also has shoulder armor attached, allowing him to, say, rocket-shoulder check a particularly stubborn door, or even blast through a window.

Jetpack: Another signature piece of gear, this jetpack somehow manages to look both futuristic and old fashioned. With six energy output 'jets' arrayed along the bottom and on the bottom 'corners', it allows the Guardsman to be particularly nimble in midair, and a surprisingly dangerous foe while on the ground. Though the casing and certain other components are made from good old fashioned Earth materials, central components are crafted from Solsteel, allowing Johnny to rely on his channeling and mental focus for the sake of flight. With it strapped to his back he can, currently, muster speeds up to 90mph.

Solar Pistol: Though not quite as unique a weapon as it used to be, this pistol still packs a surprisingly powerful punch. Crafted in the shape of a Colt 1911 for familiarity's sake, this pistol never-the-less just might be one of Earth's first energy guns, as far as 'not-secret civilizations' go. With a grip plate and trigger of Solsteel, circuit-like lines of Solsteel tracing the outside, and Solsteel components inside, the pistol doesn't need ammo or battery to be used. When Johnny uses it, it can fire off pencil-thick bolts of highly concentrated, extremely hot bolts of Solar Energy. A shot can punch through steel, and if Johnny so chooses he can even hold down the trigger to use it as a makeshift cutting torch. That said, said 'torch' can be somewhat uncontrollable, and the pistol itself causes too much damage for Johnny to be comfortable using it on anything but particularly durable, or robotic/otherwise 'being-made', threats.

Solar Shield: A spectacular work of engineering, this bracer component is crafted mostly of Solsteel, and unfolds into a practically seamless, round shield which can block both bullets and energy blasts. The Guardsman can also choose to unfold it into a variety of degrees and fashions, from a halfsheild to a bar. He can also channel Solar Energy into the shield, lining the edges of whatever form it has with energy and allowing him to cut and slice without worrying about an all too far ranged beam. It was busted in Guardsman Sr.'s last battle, and will need a great deal of tlc from a expert techie/engineer before his protégé can use it.

«««CEREBRAL PROFILE»»»

Personality
First and foremost, Johnny is someone who looks up his grandpa. He grew up on tales of the old man's exploits,(if ones slightly edited to better fit a young child's ears) and heard about all the evil folk that were stopped due to the First Solar Guardsman's efforts. As might be expected from this, Johnny is quite eager to become just as much a hero as his predecessor was. Thankfully, he has the right type of personality to do it.

Though with a bit of teenage (over)confidence and inexperience, Johnny is also quite willing to protect his community from all sorts of evildoers. Though he is somewhat willing to at least flex laws for the sake of innocent, he sticks closely to his own moral code. No killing, no harming innocents, and always stand strong against corruption and evil. That said, he isn't always 'I'm Heroic!' . Despite his attempts to be a cool, collected hero, he can occasionally stumble up and show his age. He's also just as fond of video and board games as anyone these days, and is always down for a gaming session of one type or another. He's also just as eager to visit gaming conventions. Somewhat ironically, he can be somewhat late to properly start the day without some caffeine of one type or the other, and is fond of using a strange mixture of O.J and some sort of energy drink in particular to help his engine start up.

«««PERSONAL BACKGROUND»»»

Family Members: Daniel Samson (Grandfather, First Solar Guardsman), Jack Samson (Father), Alice Samson (Mother)
Place of Origin: Steel City

History
To tell Johnny's story, we must first tell his grandfather's. It was WW2, and Danny was a soldier serving in the American army. He was helping scout a forest, and he came across what looked like a crash zone. However, this crash zone wasn't that of any earthy vessel. This became more and more clear as he lead a small investigation of the craft, which culminated at the discovery of a body clad in armor made from a strange orange metal. He reported it in, and was soon one of the guards making sure the scientists were safe as they properly investigated. It was going good.

No sign of the enemy, and they were able to work on figuring out what exactly was going on. However, as he was assisting in carrying out advanced looking jars filled in roiling orange and golden energy, he tripped, and as the jar impacted it released the energy in a mighty pulse. Though Danny was unharmed, aside from being sent onto his butt, they soon figured out that he had been changed. He was able to summon up the same kind of energy that had been in those containers, and was able to channel it into ingots of the same metal that made up the being's armor, or send it out as a concussive blast. After a period of experimentation, Danny eventually became the first Solar Guardsman. He fought against threats that normal troops couldn't handle, and did so both on the battlefront and back at home. Eventually, the war ended, and Danny retired to live a more normal life.

Fast forward to today. Though Danny's abilities seemed to have skipped over his child, they didn't do so for his grandchild. A year or so ago, Johnny had been your average teen, though one with a very cool granddad. One day, however, he got particularly upset about something, and found out the hard way that he was able to fire off blasts of some sort of energy, the same ability that his grandpa used to use.  Soon after, they got right to training and making sure Johnny was safe, and eventually the kid decided that he wanted to follow in his grandfather's footsteps. It took a lot of talk, and more training, but Johnny is now ready to help protect Steel City.
