FORUMOTION TERMS OF SERVICE

CHARACTER CREATION RULES

As of this time, we are not enforcing any cap on the number of characters you can control at any one time. You are allowed to make as many or as few as you wish. Just be forewarned that you are the only one who best knows how many characters or rp threads YOU can handle at one time. There are not MANY concrete examples of the max you can do with powers, as there are simply too many to do so. One simple example is that a super strong character can lift a bus or, about 20 tons. You can find the template here. For a brief summary of how Powers are organized, keep reading!

Excluding the occasional exception to the rule, ALL characters will have ONE power. This is to prevent people from trying to dip into various archetypes, or try to "multi-class" without completely limiting a player's creative freedom. However, a character's power is normally broken down as follows: WHAT the power is, and 5 applications- or how the character uses the selected power. Some powers or archetypes are more versatile than others. For example, someone who is super strong for no other reason than a fortunate mutation, will be limited to only being super strong. That doesn't sound too fun or interesting does it? However, someone who can create and control fire for example can do more with their power than someone whose power is simply Super Strength.

I also won't to emphasize on the fact that THE MAIN POWER ITSELF counts as a slot, and serves as an overall encompassing summary which allows you to squeeze in the more important bits of your character's power. The exception to the 5 applications rule is if the power in question is very weak and or serves more of a 'character floof' purpose.

Going back to our firebug, an example of using the Main Power slot would be explaining the limits of the character's ability to create and control fire. So it would read something along the lines of "Fireman can create fire within arm's length of his body, able to manipulate and move it anywhere up to twenty feet away from him. His flames on average are hot enough to burn unarmored, organic targets, also able to slowly melt steel over a longer period of exposure."

That is just one example, there are many many more depending on the power you choose for your character. And in addition to that, there are 5 additional slots to customize how your character uses the selected power. A complete "guide" on how to make a character can be found "Here"

As mentioned in the guide, certain powers will have higher restrictions than others. ANYTHING which directly controls, or removes control from another player's character. So downright Mind Control is for all intents and purposes not allowed, or reserved for staff to use for plots.

I however am okay with powers that TRY to indirectly influence characters, such as ones which manipulate emotions. It is a gray area, as it technically makes a character feel something based on the user's choice but HOW a character reacts to it is still up to the player. Even these powers will still have strict stipulations though. And finally, powers which make a character hallucinate will also have stricter restrictions than other powers; chief among them being a way for a character to dispel any illusions created when applicable.

CANON CHARACTERS
CANON CHARACTERS ARE BACK! Metalhead

I will state this right off the bat. NOT EVERY CANON IS GODLIKE. The limitations of characters were based on the main cast of The Teen Titans as reference. With that in mind, the main cast of canons will be more in line with even new characters. There ARE exceptions, with the more powerful of characters being reserved for Staff to use for plots. Some examples include but are not limited to Brother Blood, Larry, Mother-Mae-Eye, and Trigon to name a few. Canons will overall require a greater attention to detail and quality than an original character- especially on the side of playing the character themself. There is no post requirement to reach before unlocking the rights, anyone can pick a canon up. However, if the quality does not reach the reviewer's standards, you will not be able to play as that canon.

Many canons can also be NPCed under special circumstances, such as a new hero needing a small time villain to fight.  Check with staff on who is available for NPCs and what you plan to do with them before just grabbing one.

ROLEPLAYING/BATTLE RULES

My Guide to Combat.

Here are the more important things to be aware of, and which also apply to roleplaying.

Godmodding
This is the term used to describe typed out actions by individuals that makes other characters do or say things that's unlike them, and/or without their consent. You are not allowed to force any character you do not own to perform any action without their consent.

Powerplaying
This term has a slight overlap with Godmodding, but it's meaning is slightly different. While we try to keep a balance in characters to make sure there's still some growth possible and there's no unfair edge they can have, there will always be situations where one character is stronger then the other. Powerplaying basically is a series of actions done by your characters that completely dominates or obliterates your opponent, such as beating them down without any possible escape, defensive mechanism or counterattack possible. Again, without consent of your opponent. Whatever you attempt, your opponent must have the ability to react or do something.

Ninjadodging/Juggernautting
This term and Juggernautting are almost direct opposites of Powerplaying and Godmodding, but they are still quite illegal regarding roleplay activities. Ninjadodging refers to a character dodging everything that is thrown at him, time and time again. I would not think any opponent would still want to RP with such an adversary after two posts of Ninjadodging, but it's unrealistic as well. No character can see every attack coming, and dodge every single one of them, possibly even counter-attacking.

Juggernautting is almost the same as Ninjadodging. It's where a character either takes all the attacks thrown at him (and not even be fazed, nor have any damage)

Metagaming
It has come up before in the past, and can come up again but please refrain from using Player Knowledge for your characters. What a character knows and what you the player know won't be the same 100% of the time. While rping, you may discuss what you want to do with other players that are involved. Anything you learn from doing this cannot, thereby be known by the character. It is on a player knowledge base only.

Extra Power Rules
Besides powers which control or remove control from characters- based on the guidelines, there aren't many powers that by virtue are banned. If they exist, they have not come up yet and are judged on a case by case basis.

Time Travel: Going back in the past is a very big no-no due to the headache it causes. Unless it's an event or plot overseen by a staff, powers which enable your character to travel into the past are not allowed. This ONLY pertains to far enough back to where you can potentially alter the CURRENT timeline's established events. Like going back in time to where Robin never lost his parents. Depending on HOW it works, a character could go back a short time in the past; or think of it as working like Tracer from Overwatch. Travelling to the future is mostly fine, as the future is always changing and just because you go into the future, doesn't mean it's the only future.

Telepathy: Speaking to people mentally is fine. Allowing multiple people to communicate with eachother mentally is also fine. However, telepathy can cross into Mind Control and related control territory. Reading someone's mind is also a potential "powerplay" based power based on how it works. Hearing someone's thoughts is acceptable if not still gray an area. Trying to mentally obtain information about them is where the Powerplay comes into play. Regardless of HOW mentally strong your character is, the other player is allowed to determine whether or not your character gets any information. It is within the realm of reason that there are certain things people will guard tightly, things like secret identity.

--More to be added as needed--

PLOT NOTES
While players are encouraged to start their own stories and plots, as of recently it has come to my attention that some people get alittle too carried away. If your plot would have a long lasting effect on the world, like a giant turf war, a giant monster attack, an alien invasion- etc, run it by staff first. Also please avoid making characters that have such big plots in mind. Allow your characters time to grow before immediately starting something that could affect the forum, or leave a big mark on the rp world.

In addition, it is common courtesy for any super mature threads that include more "sensitive" materials like gore, or simply ultra-realistic descriptions of violence to come with a warning tag. If you really think something would offend someone, give them a heads up before they read your post.

FINAL NOTES

In conclusion, keep in mind that everyone is here to have fun. I highly encourage you all to actually talk with eachother about what you want to do with a character and try to collaborate. Because unlike the comics or fanfiction, roleplaying here is a collaborative storytelling experience. Also keep in mind that the staff are people too. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But staff holds the final say. As long as you treat us with respect we will gladly listen to any suggestions or requests. But if we do not feel like it is what is best for the site, don't take it personally if we don't go with all of your requests.
