It was a peaceful day at a family run steakhouse in downtown Jump City. The tables were full of satisfied customers eating food and hungry customers waiting for food. The bell rang as the door opened, but the three individuals that came in looked like they weren't there for food. Among them was a bald man in a suit wearing sunglasses, a man with slicked back black hair with a similar outfit and a boy in his late teens with white hair and red eyes. The last one clearly was either a meta or was cosplaying.

They walked right into the staff area, where they clearly weren't supposed to be, and the sounds of some kind of commotion broke out. Someone in the kitchen was speaking with a raised voice, but you wouldn't be able to hear what the conversation was about unless you got closer.

"Sooooo gooood!~" is what she would be saying out loud if she wasn't busy delightedly savoring generous mouthfuls of steak as she sat at a table on one corner of the steakhouse. The cheerful redhead had just come in to town and was drawn to this family run restaurant by the wafting smell of grilled meats. On her right was plate with gorgeously marbled rib eye. On her left was a plate with a sizable cut of porterhouse. It was hard to imagine anyone look so happy while eating but there she was doing just that. It was like she was in her own world.

It was an unguarded moment. Riley who was typically sharper than average was simply not in her element. Or maybe she actually was. Riley and steak was a match made in heaven and woe betide anyone who would disturb her little nirvana and pull them apart. This blissful distraction would be the source of the blame for why the normally goody-two-shoes girl was ignorant of the entrance of the unsavory fellows who made their way to the staff area and started to cause a small commotion. The steakhouse was noisy itself so a few raised voices from the kitchen were not as noticeable from those seated further away, Riley among them.

Should things escalate however to a point where even one of the best steaks in town was not enough to distract the young girl from the trouble, the perpetrators responsible might just find themselves confronted by a very ticked off teen heroine, miffed about having her 'little' succulent feast unceremoniously interrupted.

Some of the patrons had been quite unnerved by the arrival of the three men. This was Jump City, the city with one of the largest populations of metahumans in the country, anyone could be much more dangerous than they looked, and these three already looked plenty scary. It was no wonder that the protectors of the city was a team of heroes, rather than one lone hero. However, this was not the case for the people who were too far away or too distracted to notice, for example a certain teen hero.

Within the staff room, the man with the black hair was talking threateningly to the man in charge while the other two were standing behind him looking intimidating You accepted the deal knowing the consequences, now pay up! He pounded his fist on the counter next to him. The manager stuttered a response about how he needed more time, but before anyone else could say anything else the white haired man who had kept his silence decided to speak up Are you hearing what I'm hearing, Mr Cowan? I don't think he's afraid enough of us.

He walked up to the manager, past the black haired man and placed a hand on his face tenderly. The man tried to flinch away, but Max roughly gripped the side of the mans head instead He probably doesn't know who he's dealing with. Max started to produce steam from his hands, escaping through the gaps between his fingers. The steam wasn't nearly as hot as Max can make it, it was only enough to make the man sweat, but the message was clear, the man was very afraid.

He seems to think that we might give him mercy. That we care about a fat slob like him. That we might hesitate because killing him would lose us money. With each new sentence he started the steam was getting hotter and the man got more and more uncomfortable. Max bore right into his soul with his scarlet red eyes, smiling as the man eventually screamed. The black haired man put a hand on Max's shoulder Hey, stop!

Meanwhile, outside the room, the man's scream could be heard audibly over the sound of the patrons. Some people started murmuring between themselves, peering over at the room the men went in. One of the waiters went in to see what was going on, and as he did he was noticed by the bald man in the suit. The bald man took out a gun and pointed it at the man Mind your own business.

While the waiter was too afraid to say anything, one of the customers, who had been peering through the door out of curiosity screamed in surprise He's got a gun!

Riley's attention to her lunch was unmatched. So much so that she totally missed hearing the scream about a gun. Or any of the prior screams for that matter. To her it was all just busy lunchtime noises. The city was very lively, which was a good thing. The peace and quiet back home was nice, but the hustle and bustle of the big city was a fresh experience. By the time she noticed anything was amiss, half the patrons were already rushing out of the establishment, leaving the other half confused and unsure of what was going on. Some stood up from their tables but weren't sure if they should run as they didn't know what they were supposed to be running away from. The others just followed the crowd barely getting any clue what was happening. Those much further away on the other hand were still on their seats, uncertain if they should even stand up, Riley included.

The redhead continued to eat while having a puzzled look on her face. Was there something up? She raised her hand to try and get the attention of a waiter but they seemed to be preoccupied with getting the people in order. Some of them were as clueless as she was and weren't sure if they should stop people from leaving. Luckily one of the waiters closer to where the panic started came back in and spoke to the rest of his colleagues who all gasped and rushed to inform the other patrons who were still seated and confused.

"Excuse me ma'am, but we'll have to ask you to evacuate the premises immediately! There's a gunman in the kitchen threatening the staff there at gunpoint. You need to get out of here before they turn their attention to the customers!"

She could tell he was all tense but trying to stay calm so as not to incite further panic. Luckily the other customers were cooperative and got up to get out without causing too much fuss. A huge part of this could be attributed to how the remaining staff there handled the situation.

While everyone was fearing for their safety however, the only thing Riley had on her mind was how her meal time had to get abruptly interrupted. She very reluctantly put down her knife and fork and stood up from her table. But rather than hurry outside with the other customers, she reached into her pocket for a black mask which she promptly put on, surprising the waiter nearest to her whom she silenced with a finger.

"I'm new in town but, believe it or not, I happen to be a hero. Good job with escorting the patrons out. You'd better call the police while you're at it. I didn't see the bad guys come in so I'm not really sure what I'm dealing with. I can't promise I can fix it by myself, so it doesn't hurt to have some backup."

The waiter nodded and went out to join the rest of the civilians, leaving Riley alone on the dining floor. From a busy lunchtime atmosphere, it was now oddly quiet. She took one last regretful look at the unfinished steak on her table, promising herself she would come back for it, before making her way to the door leading to the kitchen.

How successful she would be was a matter of speed and how attentive the thugs in the staff room were. They seemed to be mostly preoccupied only with the people in the staff room and didn't bother doing anything to secure the customers in the restaurant floor. Riley took this to mean that whatever their business in the staff room was was much more important than what was happening outside. In that case, there was a high chance their attention was focused on something other than the door leading to the staff room. Well, that was probably too optimistic. Any bad guy worth his salt would have a lookout at the door at least. The question was, was the lookout as masterful at the quick draw as the Sunset Kid?

Making sure her footsteps didn't make any noises that would alert the villains to her presence beforehand, Riley moved closer to the door and pushed it open in a way that it seemed like it was just the wind naturally doing so. It seemed like the lookout was focused on one of the waiters who had come in earlier which was all the opening the cowgirl needed to make her move. Quickly and silently, she fired a stun bullet at the bald man with the gun which would incapacitate him should he get hit. At the same time, her eyes briefly scanned the room for the other threats, identifying the man with the slicked back black hair and the white haired boy as the other 'villains' in question. She then immediately turned her weapon to the other two bad guys in the room and fired a stun bullet each at them as well while they were threatening the other staff. It was easy enough to tell them apart as the staff wore similar clothes and the bad guys clearly stood out.

She kept her weapon aimed at the targets, should her initial shots fail to take them down. She was confident, but not complacent. Until the bad guys were down on the ground, she would be ready to follow-up with additional shots. Fortunately there weren't too many of them so she wouldn't have to overextend herself with shooting spirit bullets.

As Riley approached the door, she would hear voices from within Damn it, White! Don't get so overexcited! We can't deal with him if he can't speak! Max turned his head to respond to the black haired man and began to open his mouth We- But then he spotted the bald man's body jolting from getting shot and tackled the black haired man to the ground, making both shots miss.

Max then formed steam in his hand and blasted it out of his hand towards the girl. The steam was spread wide, so it wasn't very hot, but it would cover the area between the two, cutting off the girls line of sight. Max dashed to the side and then dove through the steam, his hands flying at her hands to attempt to disarm her gun while his leg shot up in an attempt to knee her in the side.
