PostSubject: Testing out the minions (OPEN)   Tue Jul 11, 2017 3:36 am

Fox was curious as to how the new servants that Adri and himself had cooked up would work in a real situation. They were just paper dolls infused with his own shadow magic to fill out a suit of ninja like clothes woven by Adri's own power. By combining their powers they'd managed to make some rather interesting creations, namely ninja looking beings of pure magic that could obey their orders. Fox had told Adri he was going to be taking some out for a little job, but he wanted to be nearby to monitor things. After all the creations couldn't really think for themselves, only responding to the orders they'd been given by Adri or himself.

The instructions this time were to steal all the gold and silver that they could easily carry from the pawn shop he'd targeted. They were to fight only in self defense or to complete the mission, and to not do anything that could permanently harm someone that might get in the way. The shadow ninjas were to take the loot to a designated drop off point in the park, and then to flee in as many separate directions as possible before returning to another area for Fox to collect them. It was a rather more complex set of orders than Adri and himself had tried before, but they needed to test it out to see just how reliable these creations were.

Fox watched from the rooftop across the street as five of the shadow ninjas infiltrated the pawn shop. Thanks to basically only being suits of clothes it was easy for them to slip in through areas that would have been too small for even Fox to squeeze through. This time it was the air circulation ducts that opened up on the roof, the grates attached tightly in place to keep out even small animals... but not quite small enough for a set of clothing squeezed flat to slip through. One after another the ninjas slipped inside and out of Fox's view.

"Okay now we sit and wait..." Fox said to himself in a whisper. There really wasn't much for him to do now as he had no intention of getting directly involved himself. After all that would defeat the entire purpose of this whole exercise.

Lewis woke up. He was still in Ratzo's shop. Working a full time job and being a vigilante had him running pretty tired these days. The shop had been closer than his apartment, so he had decided to crash here for the night after finishing up some recon.

Something moved past him in the darkness, quiet as a whisper. Thieves? How did they get in?

Pacific rolled silently off the couch. He had to know how many there were. It was hard to do in the dark. There were three, maybe. They were looking around in the jewelry section. Odd. There were much more valuable things here.

Pacific snuck up behind one of the intruders and tried to hit them in the back with his stunner. The gadgetneeded to touch the opponent, but once it did, it would electrocute them enough to knock out a horse.

The shadow ninja that had been hit went flying across the room as if it weighed nothing, it's form deflating like a bouncy castle that had just sprung a leak. The other four ninja instantly turned their attention toward the person who had attacked one of them, their faceless heads seeing without any eyes to speak of. It was rather creepy to say the least, especially when encountering them in the dark.

Two of the ninja sent tendrils of darkness from where their hands were, attempting to grab and restrain the person keeping them from their task. The other two were using their tendrils as well, only in a much different way. The two not fighting were inserting their dark appendages into the key slots behind the counter, using their wiggly shape changing ability to pick the lock of the display case to get at the gold and silver items inside.

The first ninja, the one who had been slung across the room slowly rose back to it's feet as it's body seemed to re-inflate. It was obvious at a glance that these things were not human.

Uh oh. These things were definitely not normal. Pacific jumped back to avoid their tendrils, batting them away with his nunchucks.

Two of the ninjas were picking the display locks, with their hands. Something very unnatural was going on here.

But what really freaked him out was when the one ninja he zapped stood up and reinflated. What were these guys? We're they even human?

Pacific dodged the attacks coming for him and placed a kick on one ninja's chest, hoping physical damage would do more than an electric one.

The nun-chucks were surprisingly good at deflecting the tendrils, knocking them away. Still that's about all that seemed to happen as the creatures would quickly bring their tendrils back to bear on their opponent. Yet their actions seemed a bit odd, like they were simply trying to restrain Pacific instead of actively trying to land a blow. Of course that wasn't much comfort when one suddenly found themselves fighting off weird ninja like creatures with shadowy appendages.

The ninja that had been given the shock treatment was fully functional again and jumped up toward the ceiling, clinging there like a spider as it crawled quickly across the room before landing behind Pacific. Thankfully the fellow managed to send one of the two in front of him flying back several feet with just a kick, showing just how surprisingly light weight these creatures really were. It didn't do much than buy him a few moments to come up with a better plan, as the shadow ninja quickly got back to it's feet and advanced once more.

The two ninja behind the counter opened up the display cases and started to grab all the silver and gold items they could get, simply tossing the items into the open area of their hoodies where their faces should have been. At a glance it looked like they were eating the items, but in reality they were simply using their bodies to store the items safely. Another oddity was the fact that they weren't simply smashing open the glass display cases, but instead carefully picking the locks even though they'd already been discovered.

~~~
Across the street Fox continued to sit on the roof and watch the shop, wondering how long it would take the minions to actually get in and get out. He couldn't even see anything from here, but he didn't hear any alarms yet so things must have been going alright.
"I hope this works out well. Then I can spend more nights just hanging out with Adri." Fox mused, rather liking the idea of not having to risk his own hide on a heist ever again.
The kick connected. These things were light. Too light. It was like they were made of paper. But if that was the case...
Pacific jumped on a table and hit one of the sprinklers, hard. The nozzle broke, and water started spraying all over the room. Pacific jumped on another table, one closer to the door, and did the same thing.
If these guys really were made of paper, then the water should slow them down, at the very least. At most, it could turn them into mush.
Fox's ears perked up across the street as he suddenly heard an alarm go off, not recognizing the difference between a fire alarm and a burglar alarm.
"Uh oh. That doesn't sound good." Fox said as he peeked over the edge of the building, gazing toward the pawn shop and it's alarm. He was still curious if any of the minions would get away now, though he was eager to flee himself at this point.
~~~

The two ninja that had been looting the display cases sprang away from the water instantly, flattening themselves against the wall as they hurried toward a dry area. It seemed their sense of self preservation was overriding their orders to steal as much as they could. They jingled with the sounds of their stolen loot as they sprang to the ceiling and clung there like spiders before tearing the grate off the air duct and going inside.

The three ninja still fighting quickly seemed to run from the water, but one wasn't quick enough. The one that had been kicked got doused with water and even the tight knit and well made clothing Adri had created as a 'body' for the paper dolls couldn't keep it dry. The doll inside got wet and started to tear, the ninja's body acted accordingly as it's arms suddenly deflated and hung limply at it's side. It's legs gave out next and it collapsed to the floor, looking like it was writhing in agony as the water continued to cascade down upon it. After a few moments it stopped moving altogether and a gush of inky blackness burst forth from the openings in the clothing as the shadow magic around the paper doll core simply ceased to work as the doll was destroyed. All that was left was a soggy set of ninja clothes.

The other two ninja who'd been fighting were a bit more quick than their unfortunate comrade and ran toward their exit in the ceiling as well, clinging there as they scurried inside in an effort to get away from the water as quickly as possible before they too were soaked and destroyed. Thankfully only their clothing got damp, and not wet enough to soak through and get at their own paper doll cores. The four ninja scampered quickly through the air ducts and up toward the roof, the ones with loot simply slamming the grate out of their way as they burst out onto the roof.

~~~
Fox watched the pawn shop eagerly, his eyes widening a bit as he spotted some black shapes pop up on the roof. One, two, three, four... Where was number five? Had one of them been destroyed? That was probably the case from the look of things as he watched the four shadow ninja leap off the building and start sprinting away from the scene of the crime. Fox followed, staying across the street from them as he hopped from roof top to roof top.
Pacific watched, amazed as the shadows ran, terrified by the water. One unfortunate ninja was drenched and fell to pieces. Water was a very effective weapon against them.
But even in that small victory, Pacific was impressed with the ninjas. They moved with such fluidity and grace. They were perfect thieves.
Pacific did not give chase, not yet. He sat in the soaked room long after the water stopped spraying.
Eventually, the door opened, and Ratzo walked in. The heavyset, greasy man looked over the mess his store was in, not that it was really much worse than normal.
"They stole the ring with the tracking device in it." Pacific said. "We can get back your property any time we want."
Ratzo smiled. "You want to help me? Are you that short on money?"
"Always, but also I don't want you to kill these guys. They're good. I want them to work for me."
Ratzo considered, stroking his greasy beard. "As long as I get my things back, I suppose they can live."
To be continued.
Fox went to the collection point once he was sure that he wasn't being followed, the ninjas had already stashed the stolen goods in the park under a hollow log by now. Just as he'd ordered they run off in different directions after stashing the loot, and then joined back up at the meeting point where Fox had met them. It seemed these four had done decently enough, making it in and out on their own with some loot. He wished he could speak with them to find out exactly what had caused the alarm and what had happened to the fifth of their group though, yet the shadow ninjas were incapable of speech. Fox decided it was best not to dwell on it for now and instead opened up the briefcase he was carrying with him.
The ninjas folded themselves up neatly like a normal set of clothes, flattening themselves down. Fox packed them into the briefcase one by one until all four were secure. Then he simply snapped the case closed and went on his way home. He'd go to the park later to collect the loot, but for now he needed to go tell Adri about the ninjas' performance on their first solo job.
