Powers:

Strand manipulation:  Martha can take control of flexible strands at will, making them move by making motions with her own body similar to 'bending'.  She can manipulate any strand material such as cloth, hair, spiderwebs, and the like, provided that it is easily flexible.  When controlling strands, they change color to be as white as snow, and become three times as strong as they normally are.  She must be touching the strands she controls, and so far the strength of her bending is about as weak as the physical strength of her arms.

Timidity:  Martha is extremely shy and easily frightened.  She would sooner run from danger than engage it.  

Human:  Martha is very much a frail human being.  She's as soft and squishy as any normal mortal.  

Gullible:  Martha is not one to quickly assume that a person is a liar.  Repeat something to her, keep a straight face, reassure her a few times that it's the truth, and she will believe it; especially if she is guilt tripped into it.

Personality:  Martha is an extremely shy, timid, and gentle individual.  She is easily intimidated and frightened by others.  She is kind and sensitive to people that get to know her, especially animals and well behaved children; but her sensitivity also makes her easy to hurt.

History:

Martha's early life was, for the most part, a happy one.  She was always shy around new people and took some time to warm up to others, but she was always a happy, well-behaved child.  Her mother loved her dearly and raised her mostly by herself as her father was often out either working or drinking.  Her father...wasn't that great of a human being in general.  Aside from being strongly racist against aliens, metahumans, or anything else that wasn't a normal human, he had always been a terrible alcoholic.  He would occasionally come home in a fit of drunken rage, and her mother would hide her in the closet while she took the brunt of his episodes.  Their life was never perfect, but her mother always stood by and supported her man.  Martha's mother was always a strong believer and faithful to God's will, instilling in her the faith and hope that she herself held in her heart.  Though she didn't have many friends and life was often not easy for her, Martha's spirit flourished knowing that she would always be loved and cared for by her mother and by Christ.  

That was...until her mother fell ill.  Lung cancer, caused by secondhand smoke they said.  Unfortunately there wasn't much that could be done, and any help they could have gotten would have been much more than they could afford.  Almost a year later, when Martha was only 13, Elaine passed away.  It was hard time for Martha and her father both.  After she left them, Smith started drinking heavily again; but this time there was no-one else to take the brunt of his angry, drunken fits, and Martha found herself taking the brunt of them.  She hid when she could and started staying away from home whenever she had the chance, only to find that he got even more angry at her when she did.  Her spirit continued to dwindle as her grades suffered, she was bullied at school, abused physically, psychologically, even sexually on multiple counts by different people.  Her self esteem dropped to critical lows, she stopped talking to people; fell into a deep depression, constantly began battling suicidal thoughts and almost killed herself twice.  Not that anyone knows.  Not that anyone seems to care.  Still Martha holds out, clinging to that little bit of hope her mother gave her.  Every day she hopes for a better future, though she can't see one anytime soon.  Her future is uncertain.  

In regards to Martha's powers, she discovered them about a month after her mother died.  Considering them to be her mother's last gift to her, Martha has kept her abilities secret from just about everyone; especially her own father, fearing how he might react if he learned his little girl was one of "those damned freaks".  Instead she practiced with them in secret, taking up sewing and crotchet as a means to do so.  It worked well too, as the skill also functions as a means to repair regularly torn shirts and skirts.  She even braids her hair using her powers, able to make a few simple braids using them.  This talent, this little gift from her mother and God, has helped her keep a little light of hope shining in her soul.  She cherishes her abilities even though she must keep them secret.

Or at least she did until her school started up a class for young metas.  In short, she finally worked up the courage to come out to the school that she was a meta and wanted to join the class, but explained that she didn't want her father notified or informed in any way, as she did not know what he would do if he found out.  Fortunately, that wasn't a problem, and Martha was enrolled into the B-101 class without him ever knowing.  Hopefully it stays that way.  Who knows, perhaps she'll make some friends here..
