Bio: JaK is pale skinned with messy black hair. "The Sage" was given his name during his youth. On an island he met a monk who taught him how to suppress pain and control his body. This gave JaK a willpower and tolerance for injury that most pirates covet. JaK is levelheaded, but has a sailor's temper. He has survived more skirmishes than most of his crew mates at such a young age and never considers himself higher than the crew. He seems like a regular sailor until one gets a look from that intimidating glare, and that's why the Legacy Crew is proud to call him captain.

No one knows much about the little history she had before joining the Legacy, other than she had impressed the captain enough to be his first mate. She can be rather childish until you cross her. “Mornin’ Captain!”

JaK opened his eyes to the image of a burly man in the doorway of his quarters. Tim was standing with his arms folded. The Quartermaster’s gaze burned the captain like holy water dousing hell fire. JaK put up an arm as if blocking Tim’s bright gaze in the dim lit room. As the Captain sat up he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and rustled his matted hair. He had just noticed the beauty sleeping next to him half naked and the spilt cup of brandy next to his hammock. “What’s our position?” He said hoarsely, as if trying to cough up a frog.

“We have reached the bay, sir.” Tim replied, while kicking aside a few shillings that had been left carelessly lying about.  “Aiyana spotted land not too far out and that’s when I sent Kyte to fetch you.”

“I don’t recall seeing Avytrius in here.” JaK grabbed his tricorn hat and stood up tucking his dress shirt into his trousers.

“Ah, that’s because he refused.” Tim smirked. “Said you’d most likely be busy with that latina you rescued from the schooner we sent to Davey yesterday. Slogged to hell. And I told him, never, would our diligent captain be that careless.” Tim raised an eyebrow while JaK commended his sarcasm with a quick nod.

“Aye, never that.” JaK put on his doublet and followed Tim to top deck where he was greeted with cheers by the crew. All of them were hard at work, which was surprising considering the state he left them in. Meta was buffing the railings, Gilda arming cannons, Bow was checking routes, and even Cynthia was hard at work with a shanty that had the entire crew happily singing-a-long.

“Ahoy Sage, glad to see you’re still among the living.” There was the culprit of the crew’s tenacious work ethic, Jemmy. Between JaK’s firstmate and his Quartermaster he never worried about the state of his crew. The two of them always ran the ship like clockwork; not a nut or bolt out of place. And neither were to be tested.

JaK walked over to the little girl and placed his cap upon her head with a smile, signifying how much he approved of her charge. “Ahoy Jemmy. How far are we from dock?”

“I’ll have us there within the hour captain if the sea stays quiet for me. But, I’ve been treating her fair as of late you see, so I suspect she’ll comply.” Kyte was at the helm, and his demeanor was cheeky to say the least. Sage already knew it was coming. “Much like you last night, aye captain? You know you kept half the deck up all night with yer racket.”

“Enough out of you Akunin. You just mind your own affairs.” Walters said. He enjoyed a good heckling, but the Captain needed to always allude respect and receive it.

“It’s okay Ixen. Kyte here is just a bit envious you see, because he thought the one he had last night was her sister, but turned out to be her uncle.” The entire crew erupted with laughter at the captain’s comment.

“Oi Captain, let’s not forget the week before last where I found ye sloshed and commenced in a threesome with our dinner for the evening and yer right hand.” Again the crew erupted in laughter, but finally quieted down at Jemmy’s wave for silence.

"Avast, the lot of ya. The Captain’s on deck and were on course for our target.” Jemmy said, in her serious tone which no longer seemed odd coming out the mouth of an adolescent for the rest of the crew.

“Aye! Back to work and be smartly about it. Presentation is everything, remember that. And were about to give these lubbers one hell of a show. Am I right lads?” The crew erupted in cheer once again from Captain's pep-talk. “Am I right!?”

“AYE!” The crew yelled in unison as their target finally came into view. A docked frigate in the Acuila harbor. It was carrying at least 50,000 in shillings according to the information Varix had collected. All of it a donation to the newly appointed Queen from the Prince of Odinsdale. It seemed Odindale hoped to make the nation an ally of theirs.

Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages   Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages Icon_minitimeMon Feb 17, 2014 10:42 pm

The fog in Acuilia bay was spread so thick one’s arm would fade from view if they outstretched it too far in front of them.  Upon the docked frigate a scout had still been stationed a top the foremast mass. The sailor was wearing Odindale’s royal navy uniform of blue and white with gold trimmings. The sleepy sailor peered out into the fog, his eyes so drowsy he could barely keep his balance. However, it was this squinting motion that gave him a clearer view of the figure sailing through the bay haze. A Pirate ship!

The sailor quickly whistled, alerting another shipmate nearby. The mate climbed the mass up to the crow’s nest as well to inquire about the distress call. “Problem mate?” The wandering sailor said.

“Quick, tell the admiral, we have pirates incoming.”

“Ok and you tell Davey I sent ya, when you see ‘im.”

The Odinsdale lookout seemed confused by the other sailor’s response until he was kicked forward and sent plummeting into the bay by his shipmate. Alameth shot a flare from the top of the frigate, signaling to the Legacy the exact location of the siege.

On the deck of the frigate the shipment of shillings had just been hoisted topside from the hull. The admiral, who was leading the trade expedition was watching over the crew and conversing with the captain when suddenly the sound of gunfire could be heard extremely close by.

“GET DOWN!” Someone yelled out, followed by heavy impact from thirteen cannon balls barraging the naval vessel. Bodies of men were sent scattering through the air, along with splintered wood. The cargo swayed back and forward from the impact until the pulley finally broke and the crates carrying the shillings plummeted down onto the deck spilling coin all about. One of the frigate 3 officer’s on board ducked for cover as the hunks of metal sliced through the air into the ship’s hull and pulled out his spyglass. That’s when he saw it…

“PIRATES!” The officer roared.  “Pirates incoming fast, it’s the Legacy!” The man rose by the gun powder barrels, using them as leverage to steady himself as the ship recoiled violently back and forth. He attempted to yell it again, but found he was unable to speak. Something had been jabbed through the officer’s windpipe. He felt the back of his neck, and found a blade driven deep into the flesh with blood spurting out from his own artery. Consciousness faded from his being a moment later and the man dropped to the floor, leaving the Legacy’s pirate assassin Varix protruding out of the very gun powder barrel that his victim had just used for leverage.

Another sailor took notice of Varix in the confusion, and readied his pistol when he too was suddenly impacted by a foreign weapon. A poison tipped dart was lodged into his forearm, and within a second the sailor was on the floor gurgling a froth from his mouth. Varix signaled a thanks to Aiyana for her aid and to alert the crew it was ok to board now.

The frigate’s sailors were in a mass panic. All of them were attempting to keep the vessel from taking on too much water and collecting the shillings that had spilt all around the deck. They were so busy they didn’t even notice hooked lines sailing through the white haze to their ship, which varix quickly secured, allowing his crew safe passage onto the ship.

“Secure the helm, cannons, and dispose of the scouts!” A foreign voice rang out among the chaos. Captain Sage was on deck of the enemy vessel with over half his crew around him. Immediately they dispersed and began their hostile takeover of the ship. Kyte, engaged the officer at the helm in melee combat with his dual katanas. JaK didn’t have to worry there, no one beat Avytrius in a sword fight. Meta and Tim were kneecapping and bashing the skulls of 8 men who were trying to secure the cargo. These sailors were the least prepared for attack due to their scramble to retrieve loose cargo.

JaK saw it all.

The brutality of the Legacy crew was feared even by the most seasoned privateer. Meta took a bottle to the head only to respond with a headbutt, and a right cross that put the seadog down. Tim swung his large two handed axe gracefully, splattering gizzards and blood all across the deck. One swing missed and nearly chopped the entire mizzen mast in half. Gilda – a she beast in her own manner – was handling 3 men around the canons aimed at the Legacy portside. Gilda slammed her mace into the shoulder of one, sending him tumbling over the ship’s starboard railing and into the deep. She blocked the French espada’s blow incoming from her blindside with amazing prowess and kicked a cannon nozzle into the sailor aiming his pistol at her to stay his hand. Just before pulling the trigger, Gilda shoved the enemy wielding the Spanish blade into him and carved both their faces with the side of her spiked mace in one arcing strike.

A single scream bore out louder than the battle cries of the many, as a scout plummeted from the top of the main mast and crashed into the deck where he laid eternally still. Soon after the enemy vessel’s flag flew off into the wind, having been cut loose by Varix. JaK continued to watch the progress of his crew and barked out orders from time to time where he could see one struggling or another who needed aide.

Sage strutted across the deck unchecked, he was protected by Jenny and Bow. They were women yes, but they were as skilled as any sailor aboard this frigate with a blade.  No one reached the Captain while his female personal guard danced around him, cutting down any man who attempted to spar with them. Jenny’s chain-scythes lashed out and sliced flesh and cloth from the naval officers and Bow’s rapier shined brightly and quick flashes as men screamed out in shock from her darting jabs and parries.

All gunners who took aim at the captain or any of the crew were dealt with by Aiyana’s blow darts. They flew from the Legacy’s masts – under the cover of the mist – and found their way into the ligaments of many of the naval crew, soon followed by a drowsy sensation that not only made it impossible to aim, but would have the enemy sleeping face down on the deck for the next 2 hours.

Finally, JaK noticed an abnormal amount of clanking metal in one area of the ship. It was the helm. Was Kyte having trouble? It would seem he had already cut a nice X-shaped silhouette into the sailor laying by the helm, but was now surrounded by the Captain of the ship and his other two officers. However, even though the handicap was 3 to 1 Akunin withheld. His footwork, flawless. His motions were never wasted and blocks and parries deflected two blades at once.  Although, he was defending intelligently enough JaK saw his need. The Sage ran across the deck and lunged off the railing while brandishing one of his sawtooth swords. Sage drove the blade deep into the spine of one of the officers, then immediately pulled his already loaded flintlock pistol from its holster and pointed it at the approaching rouge soldier to his left without turning his head in said direction. The pirate captain blasted a clear 2 inch wide hole through the man’s collarbone. Then stood and blocked a sword swing from the frigate’s captain.

“I wish nothing but death upon ye pirates!” The Odinsdale captain howled, as Kyte and JaK smiled to one another over the shoulder, and fought both him and his officer back to back. “I’ll see you all hung at the gallows for this!” The Captain and his officer made no headway in making good on this promise. Sage and Kyte’s teamwork was beyond compare to the soldiers, who barely knew one another. The Captain and his underling could not break their guards as the pirates protected one another. Sometimes JaK and Kyte would unorthodoxly counter attack from under eachothers' elbows, around the neck and in between the legs as if showing off an acrobatic interpretive dance.  Finally, the naval Captain attempted to pull his pistol and was quickly subdued by Kyte’s blade to the gut and JaK’s sawtooth blade sailing across his neck. The officer fell a moment later when Tim approached him from behind and drove his axe down into the man’s spine, snapping his back like a twig.

“Captain. The ship is ours.” Tim said, not even acknowledging the last man he had cut down. JaK sheathed his blade and was patted by Kyte on the shoulder. All 3 men had blood splatter painted across their face. Tim himself had a large gash running down the side of his arm. Both Bow and Jenny had cuts and bruises, and Gilda’s attire seemed to have been ripped apart when an Odindale soldier had tried grab hold of her. Meta might have had the worse injuries of all in the form of lacerations all along his body, but was comfortably drinking from his whiskey canister while holding one of the remaining fighting enemy sailors in a headlock. The rest of the crew also had minor injuries, but overall there were no deaths on the Legacy’s side. Sage considered that a victory.

“Good work lads. Where is the Admiral?” JaK said, as he examined all the soldiers who were not dead, but being lined up in front of him by his crew. The enemy had surrendered, but one always had to make sure they did not conceal any covert weaponry.

“Here Captain.” Alameth suddenly appeared with the Admiral tied up and over his shoulder and still wearing the enemy’s decorum. “Caught the coward attempting to flee. He thought I was part of his personal guard.” The Legacy crew laughed aloud, for them this was an ongoing joke. Sage and Tim approached the Admiral while the others went about securing the cargo. Alameth threw the Admiral to the floor, who looked as if he were about to cry. He muffled a bit a first, but had his gag removed by Bow as the Captain indicated he wanted to speak with him. JaK bent over by the man and slapped him gently across the face while grinning at him devilishly.

“Ahoy there mate.” Sage said, as Jenny placed a scythe across the man’s neck and Tim stood intimidatingly behind Sage, while Kyte held the Admiral in place with a boot heel at his back and the barrel of a pistol pointed at the back of his head. “I have a few questions for you.”

Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages   Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages Icon_minitimeTue Feb 18, 2014 5:10 pm

Back on board the Legacy, while Sage and half the crew took the Odindale frigate his first mate, shivering Jemmy was watching the progress of the captain’s siege with her brass telescope atop the shoulders of Kris Makarov.

"Oi! Why do I have to hold yer mistress?" Kris bellowed irritably.

“Because Kristoff, it would be rude to ask the women to hold me and silly to ask a shorter man.” Jemmy snapped back in her prepubescent voice. Although, this answer wasn’t quite satisfactory Kris thought it best not to argue with the girl with five flintlocks by his head. “Good show! They’ve taken the frigate.”

With the battle subsided Aiyana returned to her place in the crow’s nest atop the main mast and found her hawk, Mochni. Aiyana had sent away her native pet for his own protection. During battle a rogue bullet finding its way to an airborne target wasn’t unheard of. However, while Mochni had been soaring he had noticed something off in the distance and relayed it to Aiyana. “WHAT!? Are you sure?” The hawk simply nestled its feathers and turned its head to give Aiyana a clear look into its eye. As they peered deeply into one another there was no question that Mochni had not been mistaken. “Thank you Mochni.” Aiyana moved swiftly, the lives of the entire Legacy crew were at stake. She made her way down to the lower level of the main mast and stood poised along the stay.

“Mistress!” Aiyana called, while perfectly balancing herself. Her hawk Mochni perched upon her shoulder. ”Pirate hunters approaching from the rear.” The entire crew amongst the Legacy perked up from their duties at hearing this. Jemmy lost all childish mannerisms at that moment and grew a darkening scowl upon her face.

“How many?” Hotwire called back. He had emerged from below deck at hearing the words resound from Aiyana’s mouth.

“It’s a blockade of schooners….and one Man O’ War.”  Aiyana said. A silence befell the entire crew. They all knew who captained that Man O War.

“The Ghost is coming…” Blight said softly.

“Dar Le Lefay, a vicious pirate hunter of royal status. Also, commonly called Dar “The Ghost” had been hunting the Legacy for months. Their last encounter with him had cost the Legacy 4 crew members, and 2 of the captain’s ribs. He earned the title the ghost for how he would seem to sneak up on pirates with his armada and such a big vessel. He sank every ship, salvaged nothing, but always left one crewman alive to spread his tale.

“What should we do Mistress?” Cynthia asked Jemmy. The little blonde girl didn’t seem to hear her though. Had this been a trap all along? The easy raid was probably meant to draw them in.

“We need to warn the Captain!” Aiyana said. “Abort the Siege and –“

“There’s no time for that.” Kristoff said, cutting off the lookout. “We need to pull anchor and headout.”

“And abandon the crew?” Cynthia growled back at Kris.

“I don’t know about the lot of ya, but I signed up for coin and coin alone.” Kris’s thick Russian accent spoke true of his intentions, while still holding Jemmy on his shoulders. “Lingering here will earn us all a one way trip to the drink.”

“We can’t just abandon them!” Hotwire yelled to Makarov in retort.

“No.” Jemmy finally cut in. “That’s exactly what we’re going to do.” The crew again grew silent. They would argue with kristoff, but not the young first mate. “There’s no time to retrieve them. We should signal Sage and the others, however. Do we have anymore flares?”

“No, but give me a few minutes and I’ll rig up something with Aiyana.” Hotwire said heavily.

“Right then, I’ll leave it in your capable hands. Mr. Makarov, pull anchor and Blight, cut the lines. We’re shoving off.” Jemmy said sternly.
Back on the frigate, Sage extended a hand to Alameth and had a piece of parchment placed into his palm. “Do you know what this is, Admiral?” Sage said candidly.

Instead of answering the Admiral spit in the pirate’s face. “I’ll tell you nothing, ya damn beast! The lot of you will hang and BURN!” The admiral said.

JaK wiped the glob of slobber form his face and stuck his fingers into the Admiral’s mouth. “For someone who doesn’t feel like talking, ya seem to holler more than a newborn.” JaK pulled out the man’s tongue and unfurled the map with a hefty chunk missing from it. “I do need answers though Admiral, so I’ll give ye several chances to tell me where this leads to. After that, your tongue will be departing from ya for shark bait.” The Admiral’s eyes widened as he mumbled incoherently. “Now I’ll ask again. Do you recognize this? We filched it aboard one of your schooners. As you can see a rather large piece is missing, but I suspect it leads to a location not in your records that holds something very precious to your king. Aye?” The Admiral shook his head violently from side to side. “That’s strike one mate. Ya see, I suspect its worth much, much, more than the spare change among this vessel. Seeing as it was the only cargo the Schooner had aboard.” Sage finally let go of his tongue. “Now one more time mate, where does this parchment lead? And if you don’t know then please do yer best to remember the location of the other piece.”

The Admiral suddenly laughed. He laughed loud and hard, so loud and obnoxious even his own captured crewmates looked at him strangely.

“I think you pushed him a bit too far Captain?” Gilda chimed while holding her mace in place; the blood soaked club laid gently across her shoulders. “He’s gone looney.”

“You bastards! You and all of your kind. The only place you’re heading is the deep.” The Admiral snarled.

“That’s another strike against ya, mate.” JaK said.

“No, FOOL! You’re the one on your last leg now. If that map is the only information you received from the schooner you sank, then all those men deserve decorated medals of valor. For they succeeded in keeping another key piece of information from you.” The admiral said.

“Oh, and what might that be?” JaK said interested.

“Captain! Look abroad!” Varix called from the riggings. A projectile was darting through the sky with many twinkling bright lights streamed around it. “It’s from the Legacy, they cut the lines and are pulling away Captain.” Sage seemed as alarmed as the rest of the crew aboard this vessel. All except for the Admiral who continued to roar in laughter.

Thunderous sounds boomed off in the distance, it was a racket that could drown out thunder. The sound of mortars. “Varix! Everyone abandon ship. It’s a MAN O’ WAR!!!” JaK screamed just before the deck exploded. A large metal projectile had rocketed down into the hull, sending pirates and navy flipping in all directions. The entire frigate was being torn apart by mortar shells.

Jemmy watched the carnage take place just after Aiyana shot the arrow Hotwire had modified with firecrackers. “Did the flare work?” Cynthia asked Jemmy as she attempted to peer through the fog at the bright explosions.

“No. We were too late.” Jemmy spoke these words and nothing else as the Legacy silently sailed to safe distance. While back on the frigate the remaining pirates attempted to take as much cover as possible. JaK clung to a railing. Meta rolled endlessly along the deck. Jenny was unconscious, and Bow was heavily injured. The pink haired girl slid down the side of the sinking ship just as many navy soldiers had before her, but luckily Kyte caught her before she could drift too far towards the deep. However, he was in bad shape himself. A large laceration had been cut deep into Kyte’s forehead. Varix plummeted off the mass into the sea after the first shell hit, and Alameth couldn’t be located. Tim held firmly to the deck, his fingers bled as he dug them into the wooden boards.

The hulking ship known to all pirates as ,“The Legion” came into view only moments later. A huge golden trimmed Man O’ War with grey sails. The sinking frigate - even when intact - barely made up ¾ its entire size and the “Legacy” barely half. Once docked by the slowly sinking naval ship, a tall, heavily muscled figure swung down onto the deck with about a dozen more men following after him in the same manner. They seemed neither pirate, nor Navy. They were pirate hunters and their leader was the feared one, Dar “The Ghost.” The man seemed so pleased with the destruction he had caused on both ends in the form of a plastered smirk. His décor was that of a captain, but his coat had no sleeves and his dress shirt was rolled up to his shoulders, revealing chiseled arms. He carried a very large claymore strapped to his back.

“Another Vessel was sighted escaping to the North, Captain.” One of Dar’s fledglings said.

“Let the mice flee. Damnation will seek out their souls soon enough. We have caught the root of their evil lot already.” Dar said, as he carefully stepped along the sinking ship and eyed both crews, but specifically the members of the Legacy he remembered from previous encounters. “May grace and mercy be with you all,” Dar pulled his weapon with one single forceful tug, causing a gust of wind to rush past all those before him from just drawing the blade. “for I have none to give you.”

Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages Empty
PostSubject: Re: Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages   Pirates of Legacy: Lost Voyages Icon_minitimeTue Mar 25, 2014 3:27 pm

The crumbling ship continued to slowly creep its way into the sapphire abyss, where a dozen sharks circled in the hopes of snagging their next meal. Aboard the wrecked vessel were the remaining members of the Legacy crew, a dozen pirate hunters, and of course their Captain, The Ghost. The splintered deck was ignited by a mix of alcohol and gun power that caught friction. The flames crept across the ship infecting the lower levels of the hull and devouring the mangled bodies of the navy men.

Dar walked across the deck towards JaK. He singled out the captain as his target. Dar reasoned that taking his head would relinquish the morale of the rest of the outlaws aboard the vessel. This carnage was familiar to the pirate hunter. It mattered not if it was the bodies of soldiers he stepped over in his approach.

JaK got to a knelt position, but froze. He began to remember the deaths of his crewmen when they had last clashed with The Legion. The other scattered pirates watched in shock, Captain Sage was immobilized in fear.

“Captain, your orders!” Tim called out as he crawled towards JaK.

However, Dar had already reached Sage and raised his blade above his head. “Heed this order; watch this filth die.”

JaK still made no move. His heart was gripped with terror. Not his own thoughts of fear, but thoughts of what his fellow crewmen must have felt when he failed to reach them.

The blade fell, but stopped halfway to block an incoming object. A flying mace struck Dar’s claymore and ricocheted to the side where it pierced the deck. “We are Legacy, we will fall, but we will not fade!” Gilda chanted as she swung from the rigging, following after her mace and attempted to kick Dar, but met his claymore with the sole of her foot instead. The force of the kick caused the large man to take a step back. As soon as Gilda landed on the ground she pulled her mace from the floor and charged towards Dar. “Our will,” she yelled out as she swung the spiked mace forward at Dar, only to have it parried by his claymore again.

Six of the other pirate hunters brandished their pistols and stood in a row. Each of them prepared to aid their Captain and descend an array of lead upon Gilda when an abrupt yell called to their attention.

“Our desire,” Meta roared aloud, as he leaped off a keg and flew over the flames encompassing the deck and plummeted into the line of men aiming their firearms at Gilda toppling them all over.

“Our passion,” Bow said, as Kyte helped her to her feet after pulling them both back up on deck.

“IS OUR LEGACY!” The remaining members of the pirate crew yelled in unison.

Dar seemed shocked as he watched the crew rally themselves without their captain. Tim grabbed a large beam and swung it in a wide arc, bashing back the other six pirate hunters that drew near Gilda and JaK in an effort to help Dar. Meanwhile, Meta assaulted the couple he had dove into. The iron-hide sailor tossed the hunters around; all of them unable to halt his rampage, no matter how many times they struck him with the butts of their guns or fists. But not even Meta’s ferocity and Tim’s brutish power beat out Gilda’s determination.

The weapon’s master fought back against the man whose fleet had slain over 10,000 pirates without fear. Her mace clashed with Dar’s claymore over and over. There was no opening’s in his guard, but still she attacked.

“Even when you back mice into a corner,” Dar said as he faked out Gilda by leaving his head exposed, and when she attempted to strike him he veered her mace to the side causing the weapon to only graze his cheek. “It can become dangerous.”  The miss gave Dar enough opening to lunge forward and catch Gilda by the throat. He instantly began choking the life out of her with one hand. Gilda flailed; flinging her fist about, but Dar simply stabbed his claymore into the floor while taking her blows and lifted her into the air with one hand. Her feet were now dangling a foot off the deck.

“Gilda!” Kyte said, through gritted teeth. He looked to JaK who was no longer aware of his surroundings. “Dammit Sage.” Kyte released Bow and unsheathed his blade.

“Kyte, what will you do?” Bow said, while clinging onto the side of the sinking ship for leverage.

“I’m going to knock some sense back into our captain.”

Tim and Meta were too preoccupied with their own battles to reach Gilda. Only the captain was close enough to aid her now, but Jak's gaze saw nothing of the struggle occuring before him. JaK was in no man’s land, where he walked with death’s shadows. He saw the faces of each dead crew member. The expression on their face as vitality was robbed from their bodies.

Gilda’s own life slipped from her with every passing moment. Her body was nearly limp. Dar’s eyes nearly bulged from their sockets as he continued to squeeze with one hand and rose the second to add more pressure and snap her neck.

“No, No, NO,” Bow said, as tears began to well up in her eyes. She reached for her blade, but was too wounded to even stumble towards them.

Kyte ran towards Gilda. The pirate leaped and lunged over all obstacles laying in his path, but was caught up when he had to engage three pirate hunters who had just swung aboard. He dueled them all, but saw he would not make it to Gilda in time. “JaK, WAKE UP!” He yammered in the midst of swinging his blade. “Come back to us Captain, or another will fall!” JaK’s faded gaze remained, but his pupils pulsated as the words penetrated his ears – no more would ever fall if he could prevent it.

A scream permeated through the ember filled skyline, and then a gunshot cracked and for a moment all was quiet except for the sound of a body hitting the floor. Gilda lay coughing on the the broken deck. Dar’s massive bloody hand that had been just inches away from wringing her neck could be seen shaking with a hole burned through it. A bullet wound was visible within his open palm.

The hunter gasped and quickly wrapped it with his free hand while JaK rose and picked up his swords.

“Let Davey take me under before I see another of my kin be slain by your hand.” JaK said. The Captain charged Dar with both swords aimed high to slash his head clean off, but the pirate hunter swiftly grabbed hold of his claymore and deflected both blade causing sparks to fly.

“Praise be to thee child, for you are the first scoundrel I’ve come across to shed my blood for his fellow man, but not even my own sentiment can save you now.” Dar pushed JaK back and swung his claymore, missing Sage, but sending a strong gust sailing across the deck yet again.

In the distance reinforcements from the royal navy of Acuilia were on their way.

Meanwhile, more pirate hunters began to board the sinking vessel now from the Legion and overwhelm the the remaining Legacy crew. Bow had been captured, Meta was being held by three sailors while four other beat him relentlessly. Tim was holding his own with the large chunk of mizzen mast, but had a crowd of men around him. Kyte was dueling over five men just to reach JaK. Even the renewed Captain Sage found it hard to combat his one handed opponent, due to two other hunters coming to Dar's aid and distracting JaK's focus focus as he battled them three on one.

Sage thought of his crew and glanced around the deck when able. He could see a line of bloody saliva dripping from Meta’s mouth. He took witness the the few men aiming their pistols at Tim as he swung the heavy beam around, and he could not ignore the sight of Bow’s clothes being torn by horny fiends in his peripheral. Jenny was unconscious. Gilda was barely clinging to life and needed medical attention for the welts formed around her throat. Many of the crew was still unaccounted for. Finally, JaK dropped his blades and took to his knees.

“Enough.” The pirate captain said softly. Dar seemed shocked by this yield. “I forfeit to ye. Please, call off your dogs. Spare my crew.” The eyes of everyone on board the marooned vessel were wide eyed. Never had a pirate Captain submitted without at least a serious injury, and if they had it was out of fear, not sacrifice. Dar stayed his blade and pondered the request. After a moment he raised his hand to signal for the multiple battles to stop.

“I have a great deal of respect for any man who fights me fearlessly and a great deal more for those who know when they have lost,” He patted JaK’s shoulder with the side of his blade evincing his respect, but then threw back the blade and slung it forward to slash through the boy. “But I have no corner to spare for the wicked and lawless.”

Blood soaked the end of the claymore as it tore into Kyte’s flesh. Red spittle flew from his mouth after receiving the deep wound and taking a raspy breath. The blade moved so fast it had nearly missed him altogether and struck the captain. However, Kyte’s last minute effort to dash past his opponents the moment the fighting had ceased and lunge in front of JaK had been successful. His head tilted back and he leaned near the edge of the ship as his chest became drenched with his blood. The gaping wound pulsated with each breath. JaK looked onward in disbelief, along with Meta and Tim. Dar was also shocked, but not too excited over missing his intended target. Kyte took one more step backwards and looked to JaK. That emotionless look; that final moment was burned into the minds of the Legacy crew just before Dar booted Kyte over the edge and into the sea.

“NOOOOOOOoOOooO!” Bow shrieked out in a fit of anguish as she watched the man who had saved her life just moments ago disappear in a splash. It was at that moment that JaK realized his words were not the commands etched into the stone of time he had believed them to be when ordering around his crew. His vows, his council, his promises were all empty. All just words.
