Full Name: Michael Jarred Holloway Nickname(s): Light. M.J. Codename: Archangel Alias(es): Overlight Arcanist Age: 18Classification: Arcanist (A certain type of mage) Affiliation: Lawful good ===PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION===
Hair Color: White Eye Color: Bright blue Height: 5' 11" Weight: 160 Other Traits: He does not normally have wings. ===POWERS===
Powers: Book of Overlight. One of the 10 books that an Arcanist can chose to focus his power in; this book focuses mainly on healing and defensive abilities, though it also has a few average strength attacks in it. He can also summon minions to use, but he cannon have more than 4 at any one point and time. This book contains 12 spells; these spells are as follows:
-------Level 1 spells-------
Protection shield: Surrounds Michael in a white glow that will protect him for a set amount of damage. The initial shield has enough charge to fully block about ten 9mm rounds before depleting, or one powerful attack from something like another Metahuman. The glow will fade in accordance to how much damage it has absorbed and how much of the shield is left. This spell has a cool-down of 5 minutes and, if cast again before the first one is gone, the shields will stack together, adding another full-strength shield to what remains of the shield already active.
Shining bolt: Fires a shining ball of light that flies gracefully through the air, leaving behind a single trail of light as it flies. It travels at a max speed of 50 mph relative to the velocity of his hand when it is shot. In other words, if he is standing still and shoots one it will fire at 50 mph; but if he swings his arm like he's throwing a ball, he can chuck it at about 120 mph. It will explode in a bright flash when it hits something solid, dealing a good kick of explosive damage (Kind of similar to one of Starfire's starbolts). This attack has almost no cool-down and is Michael's main attack spell. It is also important to note that it deals twice as much damage against any undead, and will also be extra effective against anything weak to light.
Summon Pegasus: Exactly what it sounds like. This spell summons a white Pegasus that Michael or others can mount and ride on. This Pegasus can fly at speeds up to 125 mph and carry up to 300 lbs, but cannot fly with more weight than that. It can also cast its own protection shield. This spell has a cool-down of 5 minutes.
Forest seed (also known as 'insta-tree'): Causes a magical oak tree to suddenly appear in a bright flash of light. It can be placed anywhere that Michael or one of his minions can see, and must be rooted to the ground or some structure upon creation. This tree has a field of life energy that acts to preserve it from damage, and can be seen by the fact that the tree seems to sparkle with white light. It can initially absorb twice as much damage as a protection shield when first made, but the field will slowly fade over time (the sparkles fading with it to show how much is left). Since the field is formed of life energy it can be restored or boosted by healing spells such as Michael's spheres of healing. It can, consequently, also be absorbed by any metas with the ability to absorb life energy. Once the field fades it simply becomes a regular tree, and can be damaged accordingly. This spell has a cooldown of 5 minutes.
Sphere of healing: A white sphere of light and healing power that can be shot just like the shining bolts, and travels at the same speed. However when it 'explodes' in a flash of light it releases a burst of healing energy. It is enough to heal over moderate wounds; like a serious burn the size of a dollar bill, an average of 2.5 bullet wounds , or close a deep cut about an inch long. Unless focused on a particular injury, the healing energy is spread evenly throughout the body. So a person with just a few injuries would find them considerably healed; but a person with many serious injuries would find them each healed only slightly after a single sphere of healing. The 'explosion' also does no damage to any scenery. When used on
undead however, this sphere will hurt rather than heal, dealing twice the damage that it would have
normally healed to foes like those smelly zombies. These spheres look almost the same as a shining bolt, except that instead of leaving behind a single straight trail of light, they leave behind two trails that spiral as it flies. Michael sometimes uses this projectile for target practice or just for fun if he want to shoot something without causing any real damage. Depending on how much time is covered, this spell can be used once per post by Michael, and any minions that can cast it can also do so once per post. However due to some magic/bottleneck issues, it would be redundant for any one person to receive more than one sphere per post (in the fast pace of a battle).
-------Level 2 spells-------
Sky ray: Causes a beam of light to shoot down instantly from the sky at a target location. After only a split second it causes an explosion big enough to leave a good sized chunk missing from the pavement, and would hurt slightly more then a Shining bolt. It has a cool-down of 5 minutes, and, like all Overlight attacks, does double damage to the undead and is effective against anything that doesn't like light-based attacks.
Rising star (Not yet learned): Causes a star(not literally, that's just what they are refereed as) of bright white light to appear in the sky over a target location, dropping smaller stars over the area over time. The frequency of the droppings increases with time, dropping 20 stars overall; each star making a fairly good sized crater. After the last of these smaller stars has fallen there is a short pause before the big star itself falls and explodes on impact. Even though a direct hit would hurt as much as a Sky ray, it still creates a massive crater (funny thing about arcane magic is that the damage done to scenery and the damage done to people is not always directly related). This spell can be used only once per battle, and takes about a post to channel to get it started. Again, like all of Michael's attacks, these stars are a light-based attack that will also deal twice the normal damage to undead.
Summon paladin: A powerful, armored minion; this paladin is well trained and in peak physical condition and strength (not superhuman but...still pretty buff). His sword has a magic ability, and allows him to slash enemies but pass harmlessly through allies; useful for things like hostage situations I guess. He can also cast his own protection shield, summon his own Pegasus, and cast sphere of healing. This paladin can only be summoned once per battle. (Also; the paladin and Michael both share the cool-down for summoning the Pegasus, and a Pegasus summoned by him will count as Michael's minion.)
Summon pixies: Summons three pixies; each of which can use spheres of healing. They also have a unique ability called 'fairy ring teleport'. This teleports any allies in a target location to a particular fairy, sacrificing her in the process and sending her back to where she was summoned from. The target location can be anywhere that Michael can see, and has a target area with about a 5 foot radius. This teleport is precise enough to distinguish between friend and foe, leaving behind the foes while teleporting the friends to safety; making this spell also good for hostage situations and emergency escape plans. 5 minute cool down on his as well.
Castle of light: Less like a castle, more like a small tower. Casting this spell puts Michael in a one-story tall, gold trimmed, medieval-looking tower that will protect Michael until it is destroyed. It will last until the stone structure receives enough damage to destabilize the magic supporting it (about 1.5 times that of a Protection shield; a decent explosion should do the trick), at which point it will vanish altogether. The tower is rooted to the ground and is pretty much unmovable. If needed Michael can dispel the tower early to exit it, but he tries not to since it can only be used once per battle. The tower will also slowly heal Michael for as long as he remains in it; healing an average of a bullet hole in one minute or a deep cut in two to ten depending on the severity.
-------Level 3 spells-------
Invulnerability shield (Not yet learned): This spell covers Michael in a shimmering, white field that provides complete protection from all harm for three posts. However, he cannot cast any spells while this shield is up as doing so will cause the shield to dissipate early.
Shining power (Not yet learned): Perhaps the most impressive of all the spells in the book of overlight; this spell causes Michael to sprout angelic wings, granting him the gift of flight. It also causes him to passively and slowly heal over time similar to the Castle of light, and gives him and his attacks holy properties. This spell is semi-permanent; requiring a bit of rest and slight meditation to revert himself back to normal. While in this form he cannot use the spell 'Castle of light'.
Arcane book (Inactive). Every arcanists first book, this book has a variety of useful abilities and basic attacks. Michael has learned all the spells in this book, but is limited in the number of spells he can have 'armed' with him at any one time. Michael has decided to focus mainly on Overlight spells and master that book before returning back to the book of arcane to re-learn some if it's spells (I will post these spells later; sometime before he re-learns some of them.)
Skills: Michael has kind of put most of his time training his skills into his powers, and I don't think he is particularly advanced at anything else really... At least not that I can think of right now. Weaknesses: Bodies of water. Michael cannot swim, and being fully submerged in water will also wash away any protection shields or his invulnerability shield; however he will keep his wings if he falls in the water.
Close ranged combat. Michael's attack spells deal damage via explosions, so if he wanted to hurt someone at point-blank-range without hurting himself as well, he would either need his paladin or resort to using his fists.
Anti-magic. If someone can prevent Michael from casting spells, or is immune to magic attacks...he's gunna have a bad time.
Equipment: The book of Overlight and the Archane book (he is still learning and needs to study after all).
===PSYCHOLOGICAL PROFILE===
Personality: Michael has a layered personality, outwardly appearing to be very a cheerful, easygoing, and friendly person. He doesn't always take things seriously and can make a fool of himself at times. Beneath that, however, are different layers of seriousness. The deepest layer is a very unforgiving personality, capable of intense hatred and complete rage. This is not the kind of person you want to tick off. He is a humanistic person, and will not stand to see suffering of any kind.
Strengths: Intelligent. Protective. Loyal. Usually thinks things through rather than acting in haste.
Interests/Habits: Going for walks and rides for some quiet time alone.
===PERSONAL BACKGROUND===
Family Members: Place of Origin:History: Michael was born in a world in which the entire human population is capable of using arcane magic. It's interesting; the world that Michael comes from. It is set in a time and place where modern technology and conveniences meet things like cyclopes, faeries, and goblins; even dragons are considered a common sight, and can even be summoned and ridden by certain arcanists.
In Michael's society, children are taught the basics of magic and the spells of the Arcane book in late grade school; and afterwards are given their choice to continue their studies in any of the 8 mid-tier books that they choose. These being the books of flame, earth, storm, frost, underdark, overlight, nature, and seas; though a few people, for whatever reason, may chose to stop at the basic Arcane book. Devoting oneself to a book takes time to focus one's powers into it; and even though a person may change books at any time they chose, it takes time and effort to 'get out' of one book and 'into' another, so people are encouraged to chose carefully. There is a 10th book, the book of cogs, but is is difficult and can only be learned by those who have spent years getting into and mastering all of the other 8 main books; as such they are revered as scholars, teachers, and wise men in the ways of the arcane magics Anyway, as they develop and devote themselves to their book of choice, they start to 'lose' the spells from the Arcane book as they get deeper into their chosen books; though they are able to keep a few spells from the arcane book if they chose, some people (like Michael) chose to give up the arcane spells quickly to learn in their chosen book faster. The number of spells an arcanist can have at any one time increases as they progress in their talents; up to a maximum of 16 for a fully-learned person; balanced however they want between the Arcane book and the book of their choice.
When it came his time to chose a book, Michael picked the book of overlight. This was for multiple reasons, but perhaps the biggest reasons were that: 1. He preferred to be able to defend himself with shields and other protection rather then preemptive offence. 2. The spells in book of overlight are the hardest to abuse or misuse, and he did not want to do this with his power. And 3. Overlight spells can easily be used for the assistance of others; whether it be summoning a Pegasus to ride on or using his spheres of healing to aid the injured.
Michael came to jump city via an experimental advancement of the spell 'Arcane portal' which provides a two-way transportation ability between two points in space. The goal was to create a portal that would work between parallel dimensions, and Michael volunteered to test it after experiments with minions failed due to them being dis-connected from their masters. The short version is that this test was a half-success in that it did indeed transport Michael to another dimension (the Teen Titans dimension), but doing so shorted out the machine used to do so; causing it to break and leaving Michael temporarily stranded in this strange new world until the scientists back home can fix it.
