"One thing I've learned from centuries of combat is that no matter how thoroughly you think you exterminate the evil, it comes creeping back like a cockroach."

Kent V. Nelson

Dr. Fate WIP 41_12011

Full Name:Kent V. Nelson
Nickname(s):Fate,KenKen
Codename:Dr. Fate
Alias(es):Doctor Fate
Age:106 [Enternal]
Classification: Human/Lord of Order
Affiliation:Lawful Good

Hair Color:Bleach Blond
Eye Color:Deep brown
Height:Six feet
Weight:160 Lbs.
Other Traits:None

===POWERS===

Powers:

Thought Sharing: Kent has a family gift, a talent that runs in his family. He can share in someone's thoughts by looking directly into their eyes.

■ Doctor Fate possesses a variety of mystical powers. In general, even without wearing the Helmet of Nabu, the host can fly, is highly resistant to injury, has minor telekinesis, and has greater-than-human strength.

Sorcery:
In all of his incarnations, Doctor Fate is an accomplished sorcerer, and at his most potent able to match most other wizards in the DC Universe.

■ Telekinesis
■ Flight: Using his telekinesis Kent may attain Remarkable airspeeds
■ Levitation
■ Damage Resistance
■ Enhanced Strength: Kent may use his telekinetic power to supplement his physical strength
■ Enhanced Sorcery: Due to the Helm of Nabu, the Amulet of Anubis, and the Cloak of Destiny, it includes Universal and Dimensional Spells
■ Mystical Bolts
■ Spells: Ability to summon & use large amounts of magic to perform almost any feat such as shields, teleportation, increasing size etc.
■ Illusion Casting
■ Invisibility
■ Phasing
■ Astral Projection
■ Dimensional Manipulation
■ Energy Manipulation
■ Enhanced Intellect
■ Postcognition: ability to see the past.
■ Intuitive Knowledge: access to insight and vast knowledge of the mystical and occult from spells to rituals and etc.
■ Psychometry: ability to see the past as well as the possible future of an object.
■ Cosmic Awareness: all senses are attuned to the universe.
■ Magical Detection
■ Time Travel: Ability to travel through the time-stream
■ Super Speed
■ Summon & Banishment: Ability to summon creatures or banish creatures
■ Invulnerability
■ Interstellar Teleportation
■ Dimensional Teleportation
■ Solid Energy Constructs
■ Transmutation
■ Immortality

Magical Empowerment: By not wearing the Helmet, (as the original Kent Nelson did at one time), Doctor Fate loses much of his/her power and knowledge.

Symbols of Fate: The Helmet is the source of the Doctor Fate identity. Putting on the Helmet of Fate typically results in its wearer being clad in the other garments of Fate, unless the one with the actual claim to the Helmet wants to prevent it.

Enhanced Intellect: When Detective Chimp put the Helmet on, it enhanced his knowledge and awareness many times over, an effect which lingered for a good week after he passed it on. The Helmet also picked up something of Detective Chimp's nature in the process.

Fate's Awareness: The Helmet of Fate is not intelligent in and of itself. However, Black Alice's encounter with it suggests that the Helmet is aware of the world around it in some fashion, and that it can respond to the mind of its holder.

Helm's Resistance: The Helmet can put up a certain amount of resistance to those it doesn't want wearing it, making it a struggle for them to try and use it.

Protective Enchantments: The Helmet had several protective enchantments on it. On several occasions, it was stolen by villains seeking the power of Doctor Fate; usually, the end result was that the wearer went insane when they tried to put on the helm.

House of Nabu's Soul: The Helmet of Nabu originally housed Nabu's spirit and allowed him to possess the current wearer; later, however, he was restricted to simply advising the wearer, unable to possess them. The Helmet lost its guiding intelligence with Nabu's death. But it apparently contains some residual guiding abilities as seen by its instruction of the new Doctor Fate.

Skills:

Psychiatrist: Kent is a qualified psychiatrist, with a particular facility for listening to people. He is easily able to read people's personalities and understand the motivation behind their actions. Allowing him to predict their actions, making him amazingly tactical when fighting enemies.

Weaknesses:

Loud Noise: Loud noise impairs Kent's ability to 'hear' what the Helmet tells him, making it difficult for him to cast spells.

Equipment:

Helmet of Fate:The helmet that Doctor Fate wears is the focus of the Doctor Fate identity. It originally housed Nabu's spirit and allowed him to possess the current host, it later only allowed him to advise the host instead. The helmet is what provides the link to Nabu and by not wearing it, as Kent Nelson did at one time, Doctor Fate loses much of its power and knowledge. Putting on the helmet usually results in its wearer being clad in the other raiments of Doctor Fate, unless the one with the actual claim to the helmet wants to prevent it. On several occasions, villains seeking the power of Doctor Fate have stolen the helmet, in which case the result has typically been that the thief goes insane when he or she puts the helmet on.

Cloak of Destiny:The Cloak of Destiny is one of the vestments of Fate, worn by those who assume the role of Doctor Fate. The Cloak of Destiny may endow its wearer with any or all of the following abilities, based on Kent Nelson's retention of these abilities when he did not possess the Helmet of Fate in the 1940s:
■ Flight
■ Near-invulnerbility
■ Superhuman strength

Amulet of Anubis:In 2030 B.C., the Egyptian deity Anubis rewarded his most devoted follower, the mad priest Khalis, with a gift, the Amulet of Anubis, holding part of the god's own power. In the following years, Khalis used the Amulet to take mental control of a legion of Nubian slaves and made them build "the mightiest of pyramids" to honor Anubis.

However, when Nabu the Wise, a Lord of Order in human form who served various Egyptian Pharaohs, discovered the actions of Khalis, he was not pleased. With a wave of his arm, Nabu freed the slaves from the priest's spell and let them have their revenge on Khalis. As Khalis was buried, Nabu took the Amulet as his own.

In the 1940s, Nabu transformed Kent Nelson into his champion Doctor Fate, The Amulet has been part of the arsenal of this Fate and all his successors ever since.

The circular device that adorns the livery collar worn around Doctor Fate's chest and shoulders is the Amulet of Anubis, which gives anyone who wears it vast magical abilities.

House of Souls: The amulet has also been shown to house the souls of many who have worn the vestments of Fate.

Reality Perception: Dr Fate can see the network patterns of matter and energy that form the universe with unearthly ability. This enables the following abilities:
■Extra-dimensional Detection
■Cosmic Perception
■Penetrate illusions: ability to penetrate illusions by focusing on the true energy patterns of a being or object.
■Gauge Condition: ability to perceive the physical and mental condition of a being.
■Alternate Reality Sight: ability to perceive the occurrences in other realities.
■True Sight: ability to penetrate concealment and disguises, and see the true nature of matter.
■Dimensional Sight: ability to perceive occurrences beyond the barrier of dimensions.
■True Sight: See through matter.
■Aura Perception: Dr Fate can virtually see and gain knowledge of almost everything about a person or an object a person has been in proximity with. Seeing an aura can indicate the following:
■ Karma: The Karma of a character
■ Health: The Health of a character
■ Ability Power Level: The power level of an ability
■ Object Power Level: The power level of an object
■ True Form: The true Physical Form of a character or object
■Ability Boost: Dr Fate may double any one ability or power cast.

History:Fate had been good to psychiatrist Dr Kent V. Nelson. He had a lovely wife and daughter, a well-heeled practice, recognition in the community, and taught an annual seminar at the university. This made Kent's affair with a university student reckless in the extreme. To compound the situation, he left the evidence lying around; when his wife found out, she left him, taking their daughter with her. Kent slid into depression, barely able to care about his patients any more. He pretended he was listening, faked giving them his attention, but even that began to pall eventually.Ultimately, it was this lack of attention which led to his final downfall. One of Kent's patients, a man who claimed he was being tormented by an unearthly creature, had a psychotic episode, driving his car along the Las Vegas Strip, running people down. Thirteen died, and many more were injured. Kent, aware he'd failed the man, used his family gift, the ability to see into others' minds, to find out what had driven him to it. What Kent saw shook him so badly, he shut the memory out, trying desperately to forget it. Kent was blamed for the deaths, standing by and doing nothing when his patient went off his meds. He was sued by the victims' families for negligence and wrongful claims - and by his patient's family for malpractice. He lost his house and his job. His wife divorced him, and his lover left him. Several months later, Kent had ended up a derelict on the streets, taking part in bumfight videos for money. After being left in a dumpster to "sleep off" his second fight, he fumbled around for something he could use to cover himself against the storm overhead. He found the Helmet of Fate, which had landed in the dumpster after traveling through the realms of existence. Thinking only of how he could use it to cover his head, Kent put it on - only to find the Helmet taking him on a mental tour of its recent past, from the end of the Day of Vengeance onwards, after Captain Marvel had hurled it into space. Then, much against Kent's will, it took him on a tour of his /own/ recent past.

Nelson learns spells gradually and uses the helmet for gambling. He meets a woman named Maddy, who runs an occult bookstore, where he goes into an intense inter-dimensional meditation exploring the pains of his psyche. He drags her along into his vision. After this incident, Kent uses the magic in the real world to fly, but sinking into self-pity and depression after forgetting both his daughter's birthday and the magic word for flying, he falls into a large, nearby fountain and nearly drowns until he is saved by an intrepid young comic writer named Inza. The potential reunion between reincarnated lovers is tragically cut short when Inza is completely liquefied while Nelson is taking a shower - the doing of Negal, a demon Kent thwarted in the beginning of his adventure. After the death of Inza, Kent V. Nelson seems all but certain to retreat further into alcoholism.

Despairing, Nelson decides he has had enough of this mystic interference in his life, and gives the helmet to Maddy. He is immediately captured by Negal. On her first attempt at using the helmet Maddy is also brought to despair by Negal's sidekick, Ymp, and brought to him alongside the captured Nelson and the remains of Inza.

Maddy was inspired by Kent's efforts to overcome his self-absorption to distract Negal with an image of Inza's character Killhead. This gives enough time for an elf with a gun to shoot Negal. The elf then departs, as a quacking voice invites him to share a beer with the "big guy", "Thunny", "Megs" and "Bev" before the big guy has to "head upstairs". Nelson and Inza recover, and Maddy gives him back the helmet. As they return to Vegas, Nelson says that whatever happened, it took all three of them, and that the helmet still has a lot to teach them.

Nelson sees his life flashing before his eyes, as Negal gloats that he will now destroy Dr. Fate forever. Nelson seizes on the happy moments in his life, and claims that killing him never achieved anything, and he should know. He tells Negal that Dr. Fate is an ideal, and has returned before. Since Nelson is no longer consumed by self-pity, Negal (lord of the self-despised) is powerless and returns them all to where he left them, claiming that he will return. With Inza back in her apartment and Maddy back at the bookshop, Nelson returns to the casino, reflecting that every journey must end, through chance or fate.

Maddy tried to wake Nelson, but cannot. In his dream, Nelson has a conversation with one of his patients, Mr. Mardillo, who is drawn to resemble Steve Gerber, and the scene takes the form of a text piece, a common occurrence in Gerber's work. Mordillo explains fate is the hand you are dealt, but destiny is the way you play it. Negal hates fate because, as a demon, he has no way of changing his destiny. Mardillo points out that Nelson seems resigned to the same thing, and talks him through his problems. As in the previous story, Nelson's newfound hope gives him power against Negal and, although he acknowledges his depression will return, for the moment he is able to use the helmet to free himself and the others, briefly gaining the original Dr. Fate's costume while doing so. Back in Vegas, he is astonished to find a note from Mardillo in his pocket, but is unable to read the handwriting.

Maddy was "tripping" on the power in the helmet and unable to use it effectively. Upon seeing Kent awaken, she gives him the helmet. Finding Inza is now a living statue, he asks her if she wants to live and, when she says yes, points out to Negal that she still has hope, and is therefore beating him. Using his psychiatric skills, he diagnoses Negal's obsession with causing and feeding on misery as indicating an addictive personality with narcissistic tendencies. Acknowledging his own faults, he adds that he was still good at his job, and offers to help Negal. The final panel shows Kent flying across Vegas, with Inza and Maddy in tow, reflecting on how well Negal's therapy is going and that he may be falling in love with Inza.

I'm sorry, but the mods have decided that we don't allow Justice League characters to be played on this site. If you wish to make a character inspired by Dr. Fate, I am willing to help you through that process. I see that you put a lot of time into this character, but Justice League level characters aren't allowed.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Oh my bad, i was looking at the canon character list and i thought they were alvable. But yea i guess JLA will not fit in a teen titan forum. As well pretty dang powerful. So i guess i can make a character inspired by Dr. Fate. But i do not know what power an artifact can have that is not as powerful as Dr. Fate stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lords_of_Chaos_and_Order

If you want to keep a Lord of Order, then perhaps you could make another one who is not as experienced or powerful as Dr. Fate. Someone who is an up-and-coming Lord of Order would be an acceptable character, much like Shivering Jemmy, who is an up-and-coming Lord of Chaos.

You may also choose to make an agent of Order, someone empowered by a Lord of Order by an artifact or some sort of divine gift of power. Someone like Dove or Kid Eternity could be an interesting character, or you could feel free to make your own OC. If you want to stick with a sorcerer, you could make an OC who has an artifact of some kind (a necklace, perhaps?) that is imbued with power from the Lords of Order, giving them access to magic.

Just some ideas. Like I said before, I'm willing to help you if you wish.

Jemmy's the only thing related to the Lords of Order/Chaos on this site right now. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM.
