Pre-first off, this should go in "Medical Bay," where members, esp. new ones, can ask questions and get needful help.

First off: hey, and welcome to TTRPG! My name is Noah, I like cassowaries, and I also like creating paradoxes and strange characters who go along with them.

Second, necromancy is fine, but it can easily get very (what we call) "god-modding", which is basically having the most powerful powers that everyone dies from and can't fight off, ect. Third, you're pretty cool for asking this, and that tells me that you've read the rules or at least know necromancy and its abilities/limitations on a roleplaying forum. :P Cool beans. Cool

Now, it'd be really helpful if you could define "necromancy spells," but I'm guessing that you're going off a black magic/supernatural principal for your characters that involves her (or him) using a book, talismans/insignia, ancient words, ect. in order to perform ordinances with the Dead. I consider Necromancy as one, individual power, so it's hard to define exactly how many spells you can have/can get. I suggest focusing on this section of the character creation guidelines:

Quote :
A character may be strong, but there's a thin line between a good strong character and one that is overpowering in many aspects. As stated earlier, it's a flexible process, but if you feel like you need a guideline of sorts, keep in mind that a character would have a maximum of four powers. These four powers could be strong and weak, and a character with 5 'lesser' powers would get approved earlier then one with 4 'greater' powers. Per example, a power such as night vision would be significantly less strong and overpowering then immortality or invulnerability. Keep in mind that if fire magic would be a power, all the abilities that come with it do not count as powers (Such as a fireball another spell) however do describe what your character does with the fire magic. The more detail, the better!

Your character can definitely gain more power as she (or he) grows and develops as you roleplay, but again, please keep it reasonable and have it pertain to the plot (i.e. having your character appear and announce that she (or he) has this new, random, and completely ridiculous power is not cool.) Specifically for the number of necromancy spells? I wouldn't go to town with that much detail because too much information could just be degrading and detrimental to your character/roleplays/ect, but again, just make sure you don't godmod or become power crazy.

I hope this helps, and if it doesn't, be sure to tell me! I'll either try to better explain my logic, or personally see that another helpful hand gets to it.

Thanks and welcome again,
-Honest

I would say 10 max, at least to start out. Your role-playing will suffer if you have too many powers, especially right off the bat. The fewer spells you have, the easier it will be to imagine what your character would do. You can "level-up" your character in your own time, but be careful not to rush it. Remember, RP'ing isn't about having the most powers, it's about character.

Thanks for the help ^.^ and yea i agree with you Darth, since it would be boring with my character just say she learned something. if i wanted her have a new spell shell have to search for one in a topic. for example my character and a few others is traveling threw a city and took a break by a tomb, i would've done some rp in the tomb and find something but it all depends.

Good idea. I am currently trying to "level up" (for lack of a better term) Dar in a similar way. Instead of just having him suddenly gain power, he's on a quest to find something that will make him stronger.

By the way, welcome to the site. If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to send me a Private Message. Very Happy

Don't tempt me, I might turn use the white magic to kill her seeing as she's burned by it and her powers are useless against it :P
